The party didn't keep us awake last nigh but they were still going till very late.
We woke to a sunny and peaceful day - no builders.
I had an appointment to have my eyebrows shaped and tinted at 10.00 so we set off into Tauranga and when I got to the salon, it is where I have my hair cut, I asked if there was anyone free to cut Jon's hair as he was beginning to look like the Wild Man of Borneo!
I went off to have my treatment and they fitted Jon in at the same time. the girls that did my eyebrows has just started at the salon on Fridays and Saturdays and Dana, my hairdresser, had asked her yesterday if she could fit me in. I found out that she is from the Wirral would you believe! She said she was dragged out to NZ when she was 16 but, after 14 years, she is very happy here. She was really nice and we had a lovely chat and she did a head massage on me while the tint was taking - very nice.
Once Jon and I were finished we went around to the Dry Dock Cafe and had a lovely coffee and muffin and sat outside in the sun. the owner apologised for the noise from the bar across the road. It was a stag party and at 10.30 they were already drinking beer and the groom was dressed as Snow White. I am sure it was going to be a long day and would have liked to see what they looked like at the end of it.
We did a bit of shopping and went to the post office before going back to the car and we went across to The Mount to the Hot Rod show that was taking place in the main street. We thought it would be quite small but the whole street was packed with cars on both sides. In the middle of the street near the main car park they had a group playing rock and roll and people dancing in 50s costumes.
The Cornish Pasty man was there selling pasties so we bought one and it was so good. We walked the full length of the street and back and Jon was then looking a little tired so we went back to the car.
We stopped off at Bayfair to buy some shopping and to look for a sun lounger, we have one but now Jon uses it more than me so we need another. Not sure what is going on but the shops don't seem to be stocking them this year as we couldn't find one.
When we got home I checked the answerphone as I was hoping to have a call about the house but nothing yet. I really don't think we are going to get the new one so I hope the one we see on Monday is nice or we are really stuck.
We went home and I took Totty out for a walk and then I went across to one of the big DIY stores to see if I could get a lounger. I stopped off to see if there were any tickets left to go and see Annabel Langbein a NZ cook who has a TV programme and I have one of her books. One of the girls who I work with at the Red Cross said she would like to go to her demo and I wanted to go but didn't want to go on my own but it seems like we might have left it too late as tickets are sold out. the shop does have some on hold and we are on the list for first refusal so maybe we will get to see her.
On my way to the DIY shop I was stopped at a 'random breath test', they are allowed to do this here but it was 2.15 in the afternoon. They must have been on a quiet spell as there were at least six police cars there. You just have to say your name and address into a machine and then it reads your alcohol level. I was fine.
I went to the DIY shop and found a bed, not exactly what I wanted but not bad. I then returned home and was stopped again. I told him I had just done it and he said I had to do it again!
I went to see Alison on the way back to give her a card and present for her birthday. I couldn't stay long so she has invited me for a cuppa next Thursday and a catch up about her trip to the UK to see her new granddaughter. Her daughter's in laws are from Newmarket and she spent a couple of days there and had a drive past our house so she now knows where we live!
When I got back Jon had just come in from the garden as Bertie was being very active. I made a cup of tea and we sat on the deck which was lovely but then a choppy breeze whipped up and we came in.
I sat and read my book for a little while and then remembered I had told Helen, next door, that she could have some lemons so went to pick them and took them to her. Her cat, Ruby, is not speaking to her as she took her to the vet yesterday to 'be done' and now she won't go into the house but I told her she was fine as she was in our garden and looked happy.
I cooked some roast venison for dinner tonight which was nice and then we watched some TV.
I tried to call my friend, Mary, tonight but my phone card is playing up and gives the engaged tone when I dial. I tried to use Skype but not having used it for a long time it seems to have fallen out with me, too. So, no phone calls till I can get things sorted. So I had better just go to bed.
