Day 3 of the build

We got up this morning to a very heavy frost, practically unheard of at this time of year. I was so sorry I had not lit the fire last night as the house was awful. The only warm place was the utility and our bathrooms but we couldn't stay there all morning!!

The builder arrived with a digger and started to rip up the concrete at 7.30. He had to break it up first with the bucket of the digger and the whole house was shaking. He then ripped out all the plants and dug out soil and tipped it into a lorry in the drive. It was not looking nice out there. Just as well Jon left to go to work or it would have driven him crazy. My neighbour spoke to me this evening and said it was very unfair what was happening and how were we putting up with it.

I left to go to see the doctor as I have had a really bad pain in my side for weeks now and it won't go. I also have a really bad pain under my right shoulder blade. I had to wait half an hour as he was running late. This is the first time I have met him and he was much nicer than my old doctor, she was Scottish and not very nice at all.

He seems to think I have an inflammed gallbladder which will cause the pain in my back, too. I have had that pain for years and thought it was something to do with my bad swallow reflex that was discovered ten years ago and I thought I just had to get on with it. If that is what it is and they can sort it I will be very happy. He wasn't me to have blood tests, which I did on my way out, and an ultrasound which I booked and paid for privately or I have to wait for a consultant appointment which could take three months and I don't think I can wait that long as it is really uncomfortable and nothing seems to help. I got an appointment for 8.00 tomorrow morning so I will be out before the builders I think!

I got home and then did my washing and spent ages on the computer looking for a house. I found two possibles and called the agent but they said they will call me back.

I went over to Bethlehem to help sort books and I was telling one of the ladies, Patsy, about the house. She is real estate and said he should reduce the rent as that is not on. She told me of a possible house she knows of. The owner has been trying to sell it so it is brand new, he built it, but she thinks he might now want to rent it as it has not sold. She told me the address and said she would call me later to let me know.

Just as I got back the phone was ringing and it was her to say she had the keys and he would rent it and if we want to see it let her know.

I told Jon about it (he was home from work) and we looked it up on Google but as the photo was old it was just a plot of land. We called her back and made arrangements to meet her there in 20 minutes.

I drove and we got a bit lost but found it and it is really lovely. Brand spanking new. It is a bungalow in as much as it is all on one level but you go downstairs to the garage and to the rear garden which isn't much but it backs onto woodland and lovely walks across the marshlands and great views across to the hills.

It has three bedrooms one en suite and one main bathroom, laundry and a huge open plan living dinning sitting area which leads onto a deck, the main bedroom leads onto the deck, too. We both fell in love with it. We told Patsy we would like it and she said she would speak to him and give us a call later.

On the way out we drove down to the bottom of the road which is a cul de sac and went down the path to the boardwalks and it all looks very nice with lovely walks around there.

Just as we got home Patsy called to say we could have it but he needs to speak to his accountant tomorrow. It is a bit cheaper than this house but he will put a new dishwasher in, blinds throughout, fit out the dressing room with rails and shelves and as there is no heating he said he will put heating panels on the walls but as it is double glazed it should be warm anyway. So excited now but not looking forward to all the packing and moving.

We had a quick dinner tonight as it was so late and then watched TV. I lit the fire as it is going to be cold again. I really will not miss this house as it has been so cold here during the winter.

I nearly didn't go to the book rooms this afternoon but I am so glad I did!! Fingers crossed it all goes through. Our contract ends here on 11 November so we can move then anyway but we might be able to come to an arrangement with the owner. I asked the builder if I could see the plans today and saw that our two bedroom windows are due to be covered over and a small window put in the top of the gable bit. The owner never told us that he said it would be blocked off and would be a quick job to do it but the whole of the wall will need to be plastered. I am not sure how he thought we were going to sleep in there like that. You don't pay top dollar for a house and then expect to have it knocked down and walls rebuilt while you live in it. He has knocked the builder down so low on price and the builder has told me he does not want any hold up with the work as it will cost him. Hopefully, the owner will let us go ASAP and then he can knock what he wants down. Alternatively, we have the right to refuse to let him into the house to work as it is not essential. Hopefully, it won't come to that but I think so far he has been walking all over us and taking us for mugs  but we have had enough now.

WEATHER
So cold and a big frost this morning but 19 today and clear sunny sky.
