Lots of Vegetables

We were up quite early this morning and Jon watched the F1 while he had breakfast and Heather called and we had a long chat.

As it was so late after the F1 and the phone call we didn't have time to take Tot out so just went down to the Mount for coffee and to pick up Jon's trousers that we bought last week and had been shortened. I had a look around the shops but didn't find anything.

We went to Bayfair to look at DS games for Jon's birthday and I got a few ideas but he is hard to buy for.

We went to see Mark and Val (owners of Genera) as it is soon Val's 70 birthday but they will be away in Croatia so we took a card and a box of chocolates round for her. Their house has lovely views and we sat chatting fo a little while. When we got up to leave they piled us high with carrots, swede and parsnips, that his brother grows down in Okahune. They also gave us avocado, butternut squash, a pumpkin and a bag of Kiwi fruit, all from their land. Their grandson drove down the drive with us and then picked us a bag of satsumas and lemons. He also gave me two vegetables that I have never seen before but I think are Asian and he said they are called Chok chok and 'Nanna makes a pretty tasty soup with them'. I have been looking on the net to try and find them but had no luck so far. They look like hard, green, large pears. I think I will have to go and ask the lady where I buy our coffee on a Friday what they are. She is Thai or Vietnamese and I am sure she would know what they are. I now have enough veg to feed an army. They are so generous with their produce and we could have a whole lamb if we had a freezer big enough to store it!! He also told me to go and pick as many Kiwi fruit as I want. The 'pickers' have been in but always leave a lot and I have been and picked fruit every year since we arrived. the longer they are on the vines the better they are.

We got back for a very late lunch and then I prepared the dinner, roast chicken with lots of veg!!

I took Tot out for a walk and Jon did some banking and paperwork and then packed his case with all his stuff for next week including his clean towels and sheets.

He has had a bad back today and we are not sure why as he hasn't done anything strenuous. I said we should mention it to the consultant when we see her in the morning. Other than that and being tired he is doing well. I think it is going to hit me hard and be a shock when, and I know it will happen, he really does feel bad. At the moment it is easy to 'ignore' what he has as he is so well.

We enjoyed our dinner and then watched some TV.
