Saturday

It was past 8.00 when I woke this morning so a nice lie in. I got up and had a shower and when I went downstairs Heather was on the phone to Jon so I then had a chat to her. I had to finish as we were going out but that was, including Jon's time,  after nearly a two hour chat!

We drove to Papamoa and had a coffee at one of the garden centres we like. They have entertainment on Saturdays, usually a guy on a guitar playing far too loudly but this morning they had a really good singer from the Islands and she had a lovely voice so we sat and enjoyed it for a while.

We then went to Te Puke as we want to buy a cabinet to put the glasses in and we want it to match our furniture but it has been hard to find and this was our last option. They could get what we wanted but we have seen it online from Auckland for $250 less. We now need to find out what delivery is to decide what to do.

We went home, stopping on the way to buy some bread, and had lunch.

We went out this afternoon to watch the V8 speedboat championships at Bay Stadium. This is a stadium that has a stock car track around the outside of a rugby pitch and it is the rugby pitch that has been dug up and had canals made filled with water and I really wanted to see how they did it.

There was a really good crowd over 7,000 (a lot for a NZ event). The work to get the course made was really good. I have never seen this sort of racing before and it was good but as it was only one boat at a time not that exciting until they left the track and went onto the grass! We watched for a couple of hours and the speeds were really fast for such a small track but at the end of the day it was just boats going round a track to see how fast they could go and it started at 2.30 and went on till 10.00. Entertaining but not for that long! We were also sitting in the shade and it felt cold so we decided to leave. I am sure it was going to get better as the eliminations began and racing at night would have been good to watch.

It was lovely to get out into the sunshine again and warm up so we went home for a cup of tea.

My friend Carol called to say she could come over and collect the outdoor table and chairs she has bought from us and she called round with her sister. We managed to fit it all in her sister's ute and Carol's car. I am glad to see it has gone to a good home.

We had a bbq this evening and at last the wind has died down and it was a lovely evening on the deck. Jon made Mojitos which were very good due to the very good mint syrup I had made!!! We had fresh tuna steaks and salad - yummy.

We sat on the deck till 11.30 before we realised the time.

Off to bed now as we have another busy day at the air show tomorrow.
