Up at six to shower first and get ready to take Jon. I did manage to hang out the washing and feed the dog and make a cup of tea. I also took some photos of the sun coming over the hill. I am not usually up early enough to see it!
We arrived at the hospital at 7.00 and were soon taken in by one of the nurses to do the pre op checks - we are so good at this now!! The nurse did have to leave us for a while to go and tell some of the waiting patients that their operations were cancelled due to the consultant being up all night - so glad that wasn't us!
We were then sent to sit and wait and I asked where Jon was on the list and she said first which was good.
We were then seen by the anaesthetist for pretty much the same check then the surgeon who asked Jon was he sure he wanted this surgery as there is the chance it will happen again and it can only be repaired so many times and if not he would go and have a coffee as Jon's op was all he had planned for the day!! Jon said yes to go ahead. We then saw the theatre nurse at 8.so who then took Jon through to surgery.
I left and went home to let Totty out again and have my breakfast quickly and then off to the Red Cross.
It was busy in the shop as we have the 50% sale still on but it was a very long morning not helped by Jessica who decided to add up, in her head and then say out loud, all the sales I was putting through the till but she was taking the 50% off and giving me the total and she really irritated me - today was not the day to test my patience. She thought she was being clever but I think she was annoying me as she is not allowed to use the till due to her not being the brightest button in the box despite her adding up skills!
I went for my coffee but on my own today as Les did not come in to work.
By 12.30 I had not heard and I was beginning to get very edgy so I called the Surgical Unit and they told me he was still in theatre and it was taking longer than they thought.
I had given the shop number to the nurse so decided I would stay on in the shop just in case they rang which was a help as there was only Sharon in and then Fiona came in for the afternoon so at least Sharon was able to go for her lunch.
I rang again at 1.45 and they said he was just going into recovery - phew!
I drove home and had some lunch and then called the hospital and they said he was not yet on the ward but I could go up a bit later so I waited till 4.00 and then went up and he had not long been on the ward.
He was asleep when I got there and the nurse told me he had had a very long and deep anaesthetic and it would take time for him to wake up. She was doing his obs and she let me see his tummy and he only has a few little openings as they were able to do it by keyhole. If everything is working tomorrow they say he can come home as he has no drain in.
He woke up and we chatted for a few minutes but he wasn't making much sense so I said I would come back later. He is in a room with two women which I find very strange so not sure what he will think when he realises.
I went home and to the supermarket on my way to get a few things that he might fancy.
I had a message to call the vet as they have the vaccine in for Totty so I made an appointment for her at 10.00 tomorrow morning. One thing off my 'to do' list!
I had a cuppa when I got back and fed the dog. I had a text from Jon asking me to take him some food in. I did ask him what he fancied and gave him a few choices but he didn't reply. I ound out when I got there he had fallen asleep again and not seen it.
I went up at six and he was more awake but said he was finding it hard to stay awake and was still talking rubbish! He took a few bites out of the sandwich which he said was very nice, but then he was full and didn't want anything else. I left it with him in the cool bag just in case he fancies it.
There4 was little point in my staying as he just wanted to sleep. I told him I will take him a coffee at 10.30 tomorrow but that if he can come home sooner to text me.
I came home and watered the plants and made a cup of soup and a sandwich and watched Doc Martin.
Really tired now so off to bed and hope I don't hear any bumps in the night!
