What a difference a day makes! So dull this morning after the lovely weather of the weekend.
I did manage to get my washing out very early as I had washed it overnight. Unfortunately, it was only out for two hours before the rain started so it is all on the clothes dryer now.
I had a call from the theatre nurse this morning at 9.45 just asking some medical questions about Jon and reminding us he was due in tomorrow - as if we could forget!
I did my usual Monday cleaning and as I had dried the sheets in the dryer I was able to iron them and get the bed made again.
I had my lunch and then I got a call from the company I requested a quote from about Totty's trip! She explained to me the new regulations and reason for the thicker wooden crates which is that some dogs had chewed through the 4mm thick ones so now they have to be 12mm and ours isn't so she will have to have the new regulation plastic one. She told me the cheapest option is with Qantas but it is a 30 hour trip as opposed to Air NZ which is 24. Not really sure if that will make any difference to a dog I know it would to me! They also said it would be easier to fly her up to Auckland as it is only $95 and it would cost us a lot more to drive her up there or for them to come and collect her. Poor little dog doesn't know what she is in for. I now have to find a kennel near Heathrow that is willing to collect her and keep her till we get back. So much to organise!
I spent a long time searching for a kennel and have now sent two enquiries so hopefully one of them can do it.
Jon rang to say he had a call from the consultant's secretary this morning to say that they have an emergency and may have to cancel his op! She said she would get back to him but by 4.30 he had not heard so he called me to get her number. Strange how the theatre nurse called an hour before the secretary and all was on!!!
Jon spoke to the secretary and she said she was still not sure and he could 'just cancel' or she could phone him in the morning at 8.00 - very frustrating. He told her he would prefer to know this evening as he is not accustomed to having his breakfast at 6.30 for no reason!
Jon came home from work and about 6.30 we had a phone call from the registrar to say it was cancelled and they would fit him in on 31 January! He told them that would be OK but if it was any later we would have to leave it till we get back to the UK. Not sure if that is good or bad as I have no idea what the waiting lists are. We will have to get an appointment with a consultant first of all and then be seen so it could be a long time. At least we know and he won't have to get up at the crack of dawn for no reason.
We had dinner and watched the news and they have had another earthquake at the bottom of the North Island which was 6.2 so quite strong. No injuries but appears to be lots of damage and they are having lots of aftershocks.
The weather is pretty miserable as we have the tail end of Cyclone Jane that hit New Caledonia a few days ago. The forecast is for heavy rain and strong wind overnight and into tomorrow but then it should get better and the weekend looks very good. Now we know about Jon's surgery not happening we can go ahead and book for the air show - every cloud!!
Off to bed now as I spoke for a very long time to my friend, Mary, in the UK last night so I am a bit tired.
WEATHER
Overcast and rain 19 degrees
