Friday

A lovely sunny morning and our 34th wedding anniversary. Where did all the years go? It doesn't feel like that long.

There were some amazing photos in the paper online of the storm last night. Lots of areas across the other side of town lost their power, too.

Jon left for work and I got ready to go to the Red Cross. Totty always knows when I am going out and looks at me with those big sad eyes and makes me feel very bad.

I thought Les would be looking after her granddaughter today but she was at the shop when I arrived. We had a quiet start so she was able to tell us all about the Bianca's new baby who was 8lbs 14oz. He was 11 days late they say the placenta had started to break up and he ingested some (I have never heard of that before but it is what Les told us) and he now has an infection and is in the special care unit but they think he will be fine in a day or so and just need to keep an eye on him. Les popped up to see her for half an hour and when she came back she said they had decided on a name - Llewellyn! Well, to each their own but with a surname like Flanerry it is a bit of a mouthful and even Les found it difficult to pronounce. They have no Welsh connection but her husband liked the name!! Most likely get Lou for short.

The morning picked up and we were quite busy. Les and I had our iced coffee and I felt like taking it down to the place I went on Wednesday and showing them what a good iced coffee looks like!

Sharon says I need to start training someone to look after the children's section in the shop or it is going to look a mess as I keep it so nice. I must say every Friday I go in and have to sort it out. I told her she will have to take photos of it and email them to me!

I was just finishing and looking through the tops as I had brought one back that I had bought last week and needed to exchange it. I spotted a lovely top by Filo and it is brand new. I tried it on and fell in love with it. It is a pale lime green and has appliqué flowers around the neck at the front with pearls stitched into some of them. It has two rows of pearls on to make it look like a necklace and it is just lovely so I was glad I brought the other one back.

I had to go into Tauranga to get my underwater photos back and I was surprised at how many had come out. Unfortunately, you can't see many fish in them but it was better than I thought. I now wish I had just kept snapping when I thought it was not working.

I then went to the cake decorating shop to see if I could get something to go on the Christmas cake to make it look like an anniversary cake as I didn't see much point in decorating it for Christmas. I found some hearts and a 'Happy Anniversary' which will do.

I stopped by the supermarket for a few bits on the way home so by the time I got home I was shaking with hunger and made my lunch.

I iced the cake a  bit later on and it looked fine, our one and only anniversary cake.

Jon came home and we watched the news before going out to get our fish and chips on the way to Pilot Bay. Unfortunately, a bit of a wind got up so it was a little blowy but the fish and chips and wine were good.

We then went to the new food market they now hold on Friday evenings not far from Pilot Bay and we bought a nice ice cream before walking back to the car and watching the sunset. A lovely evening.

Unfortunately, Bertie decided to misbehave and we had to make a quick dash home for Jon to sort him out. He hasn't done that for a while but Jon is always aware that it can happen.

Time for bed now as we hope to go and watch the round the Mount swim in the morning and it starts at 8.30 so we will need to be out by 8.00 - early for a Saturday.

The neighbour across the road has people over again and they are out on the deck drinking and making a terrible noise. Fortunately, our bedroom is at the back so once in bed I can't hear them but I feel for the family next-door to us who have little children.

WEATHER
Sunny with some cloud 25 degrees and windy later.
