WEDNESDAY
My back was really hurting this morning but not where it had been, more my ribs at the back where he had squeezed me, very rough! The original pain feels easier though.
Only Mark arrived to paint the hall this morning, not sure where Bob, dad, is. It is very uncomfortable having them in the house now and I just want it finished but not sure what it will look like. We have had professional decorators in to do the hall three times and every time it has been a disaster!
Jon went into the garden and I started preparing a small, pine chest of drawers for painting to go in the kitchen. I was able to paint outside as it was so warm and I had the sunshade up to keep the sun off. I managed to get two coats of primer/undercoat on and it is looking OK. I also managed to make some date scones.
Mark went off for his lunch and I checked what he was doing. He was sanding down all the filler upstairs and had made a terrible mess which had gone into all the bedrooms and there was a white layer on everything and he hadn't even covered the carpet up!
When he left at the end of the day his van would not start so he had to leave it overnight and I am not sure how he got home but I think he lives in Bury St Edmunds.
I had a look at his work and it was better and the holes and cracks are now filled in. He hasn't said so but the paint he is now using is not satin as he had suggested for a hall and what he put on yesterday. He has changed it to matt finish which I do like better and does not show up the blemishes but he is now using a roller.
Heather came home and went to give Lexi her medicine but she was dead, poor little hamster. Jon will need to bury her in the morning.
We had dinner and watched the opening of the Commenwealth Games which ran over by 45 minutes so it was a late night.
THURSDAY
I really wasn't looking forward to another day of decorators today. Heather had to change her bed as the sheets were all white and as she has black sheets you could see it. It is going to take a lot of cleaning up once they finish.
Both Mark and Bob arrived this morning and tried the van which started no problem.
They started work and Jon went into the garden and buried the hamster and then started on his raised beds again and I started painting the top coat of the chest.
The morning went over quite fast and we stopped for a coffee but thought we had better not go out for one. I must say I have used so much tea making cups of tea for them especially Bob who drinks a lot.
We had lunch and then I made the chocolate cake I have been promising Heather. Jon finally changed the plug to a UK one on my mixer yesterday.
We told the decorators to take the carpet up from the landing, they took the hall carpet up on Tuesday. We would no doubt get paint all over the carpet if they left it. I will need to roll it all properly or it will look awful when it goes back down.
They said they were finished and at first glance it looks OK and they have done a good job and the wood with varnish so we paid them and they left. Well, they would have if the van had started! They did have two cars here today so said they would go and get a tow rope and come back. Not sure when they came back but heard the van start a bit later and when I looked they were driving away.
I checked the work a little closer and could see the new skirting board that the builder put on had not had any of the nail gun holes filled in, they had not filled in the cracks in the door frames, the skirting is a mess and full of bits of carpet under the radiator and they haven't painted the loft cover! Jon said he would call them back but I can't be bothered. They have done the hard work so I will go around and do the things they have missed. So annoying. We certainly would not recommend them to anyone.
I was chatting to my neighbour over the fence and she gave me another dozen eggs. I like this idea. I think I will have to make her a cake as all I usually give her is stale bread for the chucks!
We had dinner and Heather came home and we caught up with a couple of episodes of Corrie and then took the dog out for a walk.
Feeling very tired tonight so it is nice we don't have to rush up in the morning for decorators. I just have a lot of cleaning to do!
WEATHER
