Thursday

I had a very uncomfortable night last night and my back is really painful this morning. I have been taking pain killers but it makes no difference at all.

I didn't do much this morning apart from sort some clothes out. Unfortunately, one of the rails we bought which had Jon's clothes on, collapsed and fell onto one of out bedside lamps which were waiting to have the plugs changed. It is really annoying as we won't be able to replace the shade over here.

I went across to see how Rene was and check she didn't need anything doing for the refreshments she was putting on after the funeral. When I got there she was struggling to take her vest off as it was too warm. Poor old dear, I really don't know how she manages to dress herself sometimes. She was very emotional and today is going to be very hard for her. Her nephew arrived with his sister that I didn't know he had and two grown up nephews. Not sure where all this family have been over the last four weeks! Her niece and partner arrived and they were not very pleasant either.

I got ready and went out to the church where Fran's funeral was being held. It was very painful to drive and I should have asked Edna for a lift.

The little church was very full with people standing at the back. How lovely to get to the age of 94 and have so many people at your funeral. It was a lovely service which Fran had arranged herself before she died. Her goddaughter sang a beautiful opera song in French and it was wonderful. Fran would have enjoyed it all. Rene was in pieces poor old dear.

I didn't go up to the cemetery or across to the house later. I just went home for lunch.

I couldn't do much for the rest of the day and sat on the chair or on the sofa trying to get comfortable. I did manage to watch seven episodes of Neighbours.

Jon was working in the garden and one of the chickens came over from next-door. He was digging and the chicken was having a lovely meal with all the insects and worms he was digging up. We had to keep Totty in as I am not sure what she would do. I contacted Sharon and she said if I could catch it to throw it back over but with my bad back I wouldn't even try!

Jon came indoors as it was much too hot for gardening.

Sharon's daughter came in about 6.00 to catch the chicken which was actually quite easy as it is very tame. I think it might be back as it had such a good feed.

Heather was out for dinner tonight so it was just Jon and I and then we watched a bit of TV. Jane rang to say all was OK with her but that Riley had been unsettled all day but it could be the heat. I suggested she put him in the pram and go for a walk which she said she might do but tomorrow he has his hospital appointment.

Rene's front door was still open at 9.30 so I popped over to make sure she was OK. She said she was hot and needed the breeze. I hope she doesn't forget and leave it open all night. Such a worry.

I hope I can get comfortable in bed tonight?

WEATHER
