Red Cross sale

I couldn't take Totty out for a walk as I slept in, my alarm didn't go off and I didn't wake till 7.40.

I got to the shop and as we are on the last few days of the sale there is not much in. They will do the changeover this weekend to summer stock so we should be back in business next week. As my coffee mate has left for S Africa I had to have coffee on my own today as Sharon does not drink coffee.

A man came into the shop to ask if we could give him accommodation, he wore no shoes, but that is not unusual for Kiwis, but he didn't look well. I told him to go down to the Salvation Army at the end of the block but he said they would not help. I felt awful for him as he was crying. I wanted to offer to buy him some shoes but no doubt he would go and sell them to buy booze or worse!! We saw him later passing the shop and heading into town. How awful to be without a home and nobody to care for you.

Angela, the new young girl from Korea came in and I showed her how to use the cash register. It is a bit difficult as her English is not that good but she is so sweet. I went home at 12.30 for lunch, salmon again!!!

I rang Bronwyn's friend to order firewood and her son will bring it round later.

I thought it looked bright so decided to walk Tot while it was fine. No sooner had I got out and up the road and it started to rain. We carried on and got to the park where I sheltered in the sports pavilion and once the really heavy rain stopped we headed home but still got wet. It then rained for the rest of the afternoon.

Janice called as she has seen on FB that I was 'all clear' and we chatted for a while.

Jon called to say he was in Auckland as due to a good tail wind the flight had only been two and a half hours, it is usually three and a bit. He hoped his flight to Tauranga would be on time.

I made some chicken liver pate for lunch tomorrow and some to freeze.

The wood arrived and I was chatting to the young boy who brought it and he is doing it as a fundraiser. He races kayaks and want to go to Europe next year and hopes to go to the London Olympics so needs lots of money, he is also at uni in the South Island, a really pleasant young man.

I did some ironing and kept checking the airport website to see how Jon's flight was going. he arrive 25 minutes late which, considering the awful weather was not bad. He came in looking very tired.

After unpacking his case he went out to get our fish and chips. He just got back before we had some really heavy rain and amazing wind, I thought the house would fall down. It isn't cold though so we didn't need a fire.

WEATHER
Cloudy with showers and then wind and really heavy rain in the evening and at night 17 degrees.
