A visit to a prawn park!

After getting two loads of washing out and walking the dog we didn't manage to get away until nearly 10.00, never mind.

The drive to Taupo seemed to take forever, I really don't like going via Tokaroa as it is very boring and more importantly - no places to stop for coffee!!

By the time we reached Taupo it was nearly 12.00 and so we went, much to Heather's disgust, to the Prawn Park for a coffee.

The park has grown from using the hot water from the thermals to breed prawns, seems crazy but that is what happens and a very long way from the sea!! They have various pools where you can go and sit and fish for prawns and they are very big. I am not sure what happens to the prawns once you catch them as we only watched. It is all well laid out and a very pleasant spot right on the Waikato River which is a beautiful shade of blue. You can also watch the jet boats leaving to take visitors to the Huka Falls and doing the 360 degree turns - not for the feint hearted.

anyway, we all had a very nice coffee and muffin there and a look at the menu and the food looked and smelt delicious so we decided to return later for lunch.

We set off and went to look at Huka Falls then the lookout across lake Taupo towards Mt Ruapehu and the ski fields. We then went to the bungy jump and were lucky enough to catch a chap jumping - ugh definitely not for me. It was then on to see the lake before returning to the Prawn Park to have lunch. We had the prawn platter, tempura prawns and a bowl of chips and it was all very enjoyable sitting in the very warm sunshine. We topped it off with some lovely ice cream and passion fruit sauce.

We then set off to look for the adventure park to do some quad biking but it was closed so we went to one of the thermal parks and had a walk around. It was not particularly good but pleasant enough to walk around.

We then set off on the long trip home and played guessing film names by going through the alphabet. We had got to 'T' by the time we got back.

I quickly put a leg of lamb in the oven and prepared the veg before taking Tot for a quick walk.

Dinner was later than usual but I managed to get it on the table by 8.00.

A bit of TV and then off to bed all very tired.

WEATHER
Beautiful sunny day 16/17 degrees
