Karangahake Gorge and Waihei

I get up and shower and have very good intentions of taking Tot out for a long walk but then I get stuck in to doing other things like washing and keeping the house tidy and before I know it it is gone 9.00!!

I did manage to go out with her but as it was late the binmen were around and so she was not really happy to go too far, never mind, I will try again tomorrow!

Jane, Jason and I set off to go to the gorge and stopped on the way at a cafe I have wanted to go to for a while now as my friend told me it was very good but it is either closed or the wrong time of day when we are near there. Today we managed to make it in time for coffee!!

It is a lovely old, 1896, homestead. The serve very good food and we sat in the garden and had coffee and scones and cream. The toilet, which is like a 'down the yard' job, has old newspapers papered onto the walls so you won't be stuck for something to read, very quaint.

We carried on to the gorge and poor Jason who is afraid of heights was more terrified than I was when walking over the bridge and had it not been cruel to do so a photo of him would have been so funny! But good on him for doing it as I know how it feels, he is a lovely young man.

The walk was really nice and we had remembered to take the torches. We had lots of photo stops and went into lots of mines along the way.

After the walk we drove to Waihei to see the gold mine and then bought some sandwiches and drinks and went down to the beach for a picnic and it was really nice.

We then drove to Bowentown and walked up the hill and you can see across to the Mount.

On our way home we stopped off at the supermarket and bought some fish for tomorrow.

We arrived home and had a cup of tea. I started on the dinner and when Heather came home they all took Tot out for a walk so I could get on with the cooking.

We had a nice sausage and pasta dish for dinner and then watched a bit of TV and now it is bedtime again ready for another busy day tomorrow.

WEATHER
Mostly bright and sunny 18 degrees
