A wet day in Rotorua

We couldn't make our minds up this morning as to whether to go to Rotorua or not. The forecast was for showers but it looked really bright and sunny so we decided to take a chance and go.

As we got nearer to Rotorua the weather became more cloudy. We went to see the lake first and it started to rain and was windy. We then went off to the park to see the thermals and today there were very smelly as the low cloud seems to keep the smell in.

We then went to the Fat Dog for lunch and the girls had burgers and I had a pannini and we shared a bowl of chips. Heather has been looking at a pudding here every time we come and so this time we decided to share it between the three of us. Death by Chocolate and it certainly was! I have never had such an amazing pudding. A huge piece of chocolate brownie covered with hot chocolate sauce and mixed berries around it, white chocolate and raspberry ice cream, a small chocolate pie, white chocolate and orange mousse cake and my favorite was the spring roll which was filo pastry with a chocolate sauce and white and dark chocolate chunks inside. It was truly lovely though I am glad we shared it between three!!!

We decided not to go to the luge as there were showers and so went instead to the museum and watched the very interesting film they have about the 1986 quake which has special effects ie the seats start to shake when you are not expecting them to (unless like us you have been before). It is a good film and Katharine enjoyed it. We then had a look around the museum and into the workings of the old baths which were very popular and used for people to get well due to the minerals in the water.

We then went into some of the souvenir shops before heading home and driving through a lot of rain. There was a parcel waiting on the doorstep when we got back from Kirsty. She sent me some lovely earrings for my birthday and a lovely Radley umbrella for looking after them down here. There are also two presents for Jon but as he is not back till Sunday I don't know what is in them.

We were so full after our lunch the girls just had beans on toast and I had a tuna roll. I lit the fire and watched some TV. No walk for Tot this evening as it was too wet and windy.

WEATHER
Cloudy with some heavy showers 15 degrees
