It was an early start today as we needed to get to Wia-O-Tapu thermal park by 10.15 to see the lady Knox Geyser blow. We left at 8.50 and made it just in time to see them put the organic soap in and then it started to foam and eventually blow. Although they can assure you, due to the adding of the soap, that it will blow they don't know how high or for how long. Fortunately for us it was impressive though I have to say not as good as Te Puia in Rotorua in reality a bit like a Disney thing.
After that we went for a coffee and then walked around the park which I really like but even the Champagne Lake did not impress Heather as much as some of the other parks Katharine liked it but then she has only seen this one and Heather has now been to them all - lucky her!!!
We left the park and then went to see the mud pools which are impressive and bubble and gurgle and splash around really well.
We then continued on to Taupo and fortunately the Sealegs and ginger tablets plus sitting in the front of the car with a pillow seem to have helped Katharine and she was fine today with no sickness.
We had an alright lunch and then a walk along the lake and the views of the snow capped mountains in the ski areas was lovely.
It was then off to see where they do the bungy jump in Taupo and it was so much nicer than I imagined it would be. it is on the Waikato River where it leaves Lake Taupo and the jump is from a platform over the river which is a really beautiful deep blue colour. Unfortunately, nobody was jumping when we were there so we didn't have that excitement and there was no way any of us wanted to do it.
Then we went to Huka Falls and this spot never fails to impress. It is so amazing to think that the whole of the Waikato River flows through this gorge and is a mass of foaming blue and white water. The Waikato is the longest river in NZ and further up towards Hamilton it has three or four big power stations.
Then it was the long leg of the journey back home which took nearly two hours but Katharine was able to sleep all the way - I am sure she could sleep for England. She is like Kirsty as far as travelling goes and sleep is the best way to overcome travel sickness. It is a shame really as she would love to look at the scenery.
Back home and after feeding Tot I got stuck in to cooking a curry for dinner which was enjoyed by everyone. I folded all the shirts that Jon will need for his week in Oz and helped Heather sort out their plans for Wellington tomorrow. After washing the dishes I needed a breath of fresh air so took Tot out for a walk.
I have to say I am really looking forward to two days on my own tomorrow and Tuesday!!!
WEATHER
Mostly sunny 16 degrees in Tauranga, a few clouds, cold in Taupo 6 degrees
