A beautiful sunny Saturday

We had a bit of a lie in this morning and didn't get up till 8.00!! I had heard Heather and Katharine going to bed at 2.00, rather them than me - Oh to be young!

We had breakfast and then took To out and by the time we got back Heather and Katharine were ready to go out.

We set off to go to Karangahake Gorge but had not gone too far before Katharine felt unwell, Kiwi roads are not good if you are prone to travel sickness.

We got as far as Katikati and stopped for coffee and went to buy Sealegs for Katharine and I got her some ginger sweets to chew which seemed to help her. I told her to sit in the front and I sat with Heather in the back and this seemed to help her.

Our first stop was at Owharoa Falls and then we went on to the gorge and walked the track that James had walked and which Victoria and I tried to walk but as we had no torch we had to turn back. Today we managed to do it and it was really nice and Heather, who has not been there before, and Katharine both enjoyed it. However, it was nearly 2.00 when we got back to the car park and we were all very hungry.

We went across the road to the cafe and had a really nice lunch, I had some lovely ham hock and vegetable soup and they all had burgers.

We set off again and went to Waihi and to Martha's Gold mine which is really impressive as it is such a big hole.

As it was getting late we headed home stopping in at the supermarket to buy a cake for tea.

We got back and I got dinner on the go, roast chicken and veg, and Jon made a cup of tea. I lit the fire and then took Tot out for a quick walk. I can see it is going to be a long and tiring two weeks.

Dinner was really good and we actually had 'crisp' roast potatoes. I have not managed to do that very often in this huge oven.

We all need an early night as we want to be up early to get down to see the Lady Knox geyser going off at 10.00 and it will take us at least an hour and a half to get there and then we will go on to Taupo so anther busy day.

WEATHER
Bright and sunny 17 degrees
