A visit to the doctor

I went to get Totty from kennels and didn't feel very well and my legs felt very weak and so when I got back I called Elizabet to say I couldn't make the meeting.

I had Googled my symptoms and came up with having Ciguatera which is reef fish poisoning. I could hardly believe it when I was reading the symptoms and can't understand how I didn't connect my symptoms until then with the fish we had eaten on our first night. When I spoke to Elizabeth she thought I should go to the doctor so I made an appointment.

I told the doctor what had happened and he agreed with what I had - he had worked in the Cook Islands and was aware of this toxic poisoning which comes from reef fish eating a toxin that grows on the coral and is not killed by cooking or freezing so the hotel wasn't at fault. There is no treatment but he said if it got worse to go back to him. He phoned me not long after I got home to say he had spoken to the travel doctor at the surgery and she told him to let me know that the symptoms could last for a few weeks yet - I had read on the Internet they could sometimes last for years! I hope not.

I spent the rest of the day washing and getting sorted out after holiday. Jon had left for Wellington this morning and won't be back till tomorrow. I had a glass of wine and some leftover pizza but my feet and hands were driving me mad so I had to get the ice block from the freezer and put my feet on that.

I called Joyce and we had a nice long chat so it was late when I went to bed. My neighbours are still away, i thought they would only be away for a few days as she told me Brent couldn't spend too much time away from the business.

WEATHER
Cooler today but still very sunny and 20 degrees
