We are up and I am more or less ready, just last minute packing and then we will have to take Totty, I don't like taking her, I wish she didn't look so sad when we leave her.
Took Tot and left her bed with he this time in the hope that she will settle a bit better at night - apparently she barks.
Had a good drive to Auckland went via the gorge. We haven't been that way for a long time as it is a bit windy but at least it was not boring. We stopped at Paeroa for coffee, Jon asked for double shots of coffee and when it came it was like a milky drink. I just had to take them back! If I am going to drink coffee it has to taste like coffee. She apologised and said she had made a mistake and gave us two new ones. With the coffee stop taking so long all the extra time we thought we had got lost and we got to the car park at just 1.30 when we should have been checking in. The driver was very good and took us to international departures first and then took the other passengers to domestic departures.
There was a huge queue to check in and it moved very slowly. When we got to the desk Jon asked how much it was to upgrade and as it was reasonable he said we would so all that queuing was a waste as we could have just gone to the front, never mind.
Air Pacific share a lounge with Qantas so we went up there after clearing security and had a glass of sparkling wine and some mini pies but we didn't have long to wait to board. We were sat right in the cone part of the plane which was a 747, jumbo jet and very spacious. We were given a glass of champagne and some nibbles and as soon as everyone was on board we took off on time.
We had a lovely meal and I felt really full after it but it does help the flight go over faster and I like flying on 747 as they are so smooth and of course I like flying first class even more!
We landed in Nadi ( pronounced Nandi) and the heat when we got off the plane was incredible. Our bags were through quickly and when we got out our driver, Justin, was waiting to take us to the hotel. He was very chatty and told us all about Fiji.
The hotel was lovely and our apartment very nice and quite large. We unpacked and showered and then went out for dinner. We ate in one of the seven restaurants on site. It was called Cross and named after the Kiwi chef who runs it. The food was really lovely and we had yellow fin tuna to start followed by local fish cooked with scallops and to finish the most lovely coconut tirimisu with a brandy basket on top and ice cream.
Got back to the room and had coffee and then went to bed with the AC on full.
WEATHER
