We intended to get a "teksi" to the station (RM15) and then the express train (RM70) out to the airport but when we got into the taxi the very pleasant Chinese/Malay man told us in very broken English that he would take us to the airport for RM75 so we agreed!! He was a lovely old man and gave us lots of info on the journey only thing was he was quite difficult to understand. At one point he was telling us how bad it was that Woolworths had gone bust and he knew so much about it more than your average Brit would know. He could talk the hind legs off a donkey and didn't stop much for the whole 45 min trip.
Once again we were very impressed with KL airport and we checked in very smoothly and quickly. We then had a couple of hours to fill so we went to the Harrods Tea Shop!!! and had a drink and a bit of cake then we just had to wait until our flight was called. This plane was a 727, I think, with five seats in the middle and two either side. It was quite full but we had two spare seats next to us so we had lots of space but the flight was very cold and I needed two blankets. We had a meal of spicy chicken and rice which was OK. It was then time to settle down to sleep and once again I did quite well once I was warm enough. We were due to land at 12.15 pm NZ time and so "breakfast" was served two and a half hours before. It was spinach omelet and rice or squid and rice! Oh my poor tummy! I ate the fruit and bread.
We landed on time and Jon's new boss, Mark, was there to meet us and we set off on the drive to Tauranga which took about two and a half hours. My first impressions of NZ are it is very like UK and we could have been back home but it is cleaner and brighter and some of the lorries are huge.
We arrived at the motel where we were to stay for one night until the landlady Seleena, who owns our house had had time to clean it after the previous Canadian holiday let who had apparently left it in a bit of a mess. The motel was OK but not brilliant and there was only one place to eat close by and we had no car but we thought for one night it would be fine.
After a shower and a change of clothes we went out for dinner. The place next door was a hotel cum bar cum restaurant so we asked for a table for two. We then saw it was a buffet so went to get our first course which was fish chowder and not bad. However when we went to get our main it all looked as if he had been hanging around for quite sometime and the gammon on the carvery looked a bit dried up. Well we needed to eat so we went for the chili and rice with salad which was pretty bad so we left it, drank our beers and left.
Jon was still hungry so he went across to McDonald's and we bought some beer and went back to the motel. Things can't get worse, can they?
I'm sure things will look better in the morning so its off to sleep. At least we are here safe and well and after a call home the girls all seem fine too so that's OK.
