Bank Holiday Monday

As it had been so hot yesterday we decided it would be a good idea to get out early as we were taking Totty with us and haven't a sunshade yet.

We made our picnic and were on our way by 9.30 - pretty good for us. Totty is getting to be really good in the car although she still wants to sit on my knee but at least she keeps still.

The drive to Bowentown was very nice. It is up state highway No 2 and for a BH it was very quiet. We drive through a place called Bethlehem where they have caves that you can go down and see glowworms riding in a kayak, we'll do that one evening.

Bowentown itself is a very pretty place and there are some very large houses there with really lovely gardens, a lot of rich people from Auckland we were told. The views towards Tauranga are really something and we took some lovely photos. We had a cup of coffee from a little bar in the car park and were serenaded by a South Pacific group of rather large men who just happened to be there!

We then drove along to Waihi Beach but dogs are not allowed on the beach until third week of February so we will have to have another trip there as it looked lovely.

We drove back to Bowentown and found a lovely spot sitting near the estuary to have our picnic. We then had a paddle in the water and a long walk along the beach but had to keep Totty on the lead as she kept chasing the birds and I wasn't sure how far she would run after them!

We drove home about three o'clock just when it was really too hot to be out so good planning.

We have had a cup of tea and a blueberry and cream muffin for tea and Jon is now out doing a bit in the garden. I must remember to put the oven on early enough to cook the chicken as it takes a long time to heat up but for now I can watch some tennis.
