A good night's sleep which was just as well as we had an early start. Jon did not do so well as Bertie played up and Jon did not get to bed till midnight.
We had room service breakfast which was OK and then we left to walk to Pier 33 for the ferry to Alcatraz and it took us about 20 minutes.
The morning was not very nice and we had horrible drizzle but the sun did come out once we reached The Rock and we had no more rain.
Alcatraz is much bigger than I imagined and as we docked a garden tour was just about to leave and as it took you to places that are off limits without a guide we decided to do it and were so glad as it was very interesting and told the history of the gardens which, surprisingly, did not grow vegetables but just flowered which were used to brighten the homes of the wardens, officers and their families.
We then went on the audio tour which was very good. I like audio tours as you go at your own pace, the place is quiet as everyone is listening and you can hear everything and are not left behind.
The cells are very small and have a bed, loo and a folding down metal table and bench. No personal effects were allowed and the front was all bars so everyone could see everything! If the were not good prisoners or had no outside work they were in the cells for 23 hours a day!
A really fascinating place and wer spent four hours there before catching the ferry back for lunch. We had better views on the return as it was sunny but still cold.
We went to man Italian and had pizza a and will have a small meal for dinner.
We then walked and walked looking around. We were both tired so went to the hotel with the intention of riding the trolley bus later but we fell asleep and it was too Kate when we woke up.
We went out for a cuppa and watched sourdough being made into all sorts of shapes. Then we walked some more before stopping for dinner at a wine bar.
We both tried three tasting glasses of white which were all very good. Jon had a crab salad and I had clam chowder in a sourdough bowl. I had a fit of the giggles as I finished and said to Jon 'I can't eat a whole bowl'! Meaning all the bread as we had seen so many people do. Lol! Well I thought it was funny and so did he.
We then went for an ice cream and walked back to the hotel very, very tired.
We have booked a trip to Muir Woods which will take us over the Golden Gate Bridge and we come back on a ferry.
Just had a shower and washed my hair to save time in the morning. All this wind and rain does it no good.
So tired now I could cry!
WEATHER
Wet start, cold then sunny and cold 16 degrees
