We had a nice phone call from Heather this morning until the battery ran out on the phone!!
Jon felt much better this morning thank goodness and went off to work.
I baked some peanut butter cookies to take to the book rooms this afternoon and then I went over to the Mount to meet the ladies after swimming for a coffee. We went to one of the cafes on the front and it was a beautiful morning, sunny and warm and we were all saying what lovely weather. Apparently, it has been the driest July for many years.
I left to go home and got back and did a few things around the house before having my lunch.
I left to go to the book rooms for my first time this year. Lions have had new trestles and table tops made and so they all needed to be put in place. Jane and I, as the youngest ones there today, (Jane is only in her thirties or so) were chosen to do the lifting and we got stuck in. I did mention to Jane not to get too excited as we got to the end of the job as I told her no doubt they would want them moving and they did!!
Some of the ladies were pricing and but as we couldn't get books onto the tables yet they were getting cross as they were running out of trolleys to put the books in. The sensible thing would have been to stop pricing and help put books out. But we are talking Lions here and that didn't happen. We have one Lion who is very nice but my goodness her tongue is sharp and she was very rude to some of the ladies today and if she had spoken to me like that I would have had to say something. I really don't know why they put up with it.
Shirley is supposed to be in charge of the sale and I told her I was going to bring her an Indian chief's headdress in with lots of feathers and some other headdresses with only one feather in as 'too many chiefs and not enough Indians" always springs to mind when I am there. We do always have a nice afternoon tea though and the ladies are very good at baking.
We had a heavy shower of rain just before I left at 4.00 but it soon passed and then we had drizzle, so different to this morning. One good thing with the cloud it will keep it warm tonight and it is forecast to go down to only 12 degrees so I might not need my electric blanket!
Jon came home soon after I got in and we had a cup of tea before I started the dinner. He looked much better when he came home tonight so last nights early bed helped and he will do the same tonight.
I cooked chicken with fennel, garlic and lemon tonight. I have never cooked with fennel before but I have eaten it out. It was OK but nothing special but the sauce was nice.
We watched some TV and then I went looking for fleas on Totty as she is scratching again. I found two and as it is the first of the month tomorrow and four weeks since her last Frontline treatment I treated her again.
WEATHER
Sunny then cloudy and drizzle 16 degrees
