A short stay in hospital

I was up early this morning so that I could have some breakfast as I couldn't have anything to eat after 7.00 and nothing to drink after 10.00. Took Totty out and managed to keep myself busy till Jon came home to take me to the hospital for 12.30.

Found the Surgical Day Unit without any problems and checked in. I told Jon to go and I would call him when I was finished. I sat waiting for about 30 minutes and was called in by the anaesthetist who was British and he checked me over and filled in all my details. Back to the waiting room for another half hour.

I was then called in by one of the nurses and the same questions. I was then sent upstairs to have an ECG as everyone over 50 having a GA has to have one. I went in straight away and the ECG was fine so back to the nurse. She gave me a dose of Panadol and more questions. I was then asked to change into a gown and robe and socks, I didn't put the hat on yet. I was then taken to sit in a room full of comfy chairs and lots of other patients all waiting for various types of surgery. I had to put all my belongings into a locker but I kept my book out so was able to read.

One by one the other patients all went through till it was just me. It was by now 3.30 and I was cery thirsty!! Finally the nurse came in and took me through. I met Mr McAuley, who is Irish and he examined me to make sure he knew what to remove. The theatre sister was British so it felt like being in the UK. I looked at the clock just before they put me out and it was 3.45. I woke up and it was 4.30 and I felt groggy but OK.

After a little while they took me from recovery to a ward and gave me a cup of tea, the nurse was from Tiverton and very nice. After a while I called Jon and then got dressed. I was talking to the nurse about aftercare when Jon arrived at about 5.45. She said I should not go in any spa pools and I told her I was going to Thailand and she said I should have postponed the operation but I told her I hadn't liked as I had made a fuss about it taking so long in the first place. I will have to see how it heals and use my common sense.

Got home and felt very sore, just like after giving birth, very uncomfortable to sit down. Jon made the dinner, well he reheated the casserole I made yesterday and did all the dishes etc so I didn't have to do anything.

Went to bed and had and hoped to feel better in the morning.

WEATHER
Very chilly this morning but brighter later with some sun, showers in the evening.
