We slept well but woke on Kiwi time but it was not a problem as we had to get to the airport. We got the hotel car which was very nice but more expensive than a taxi which we had asked for!
We checked in smoothly and went through to departures and had breakfast and it was soon time to board. We flew VAustralia and they were good and premium economy was very spacious. I watched Couples Retreat and it made me laugh out loud. My favorite line was about a man who was overweight and they told him he had 'Dormant relaxed skin' - that was his stomach, very funny.
Our lunch was salmon and noodles but I had to send it back as it was frozen. This was followed by chicken and a lemon pudding, cheese and coffee. All manageable today and not too much.
The flight was only 8 hours so that was a very pleasant surprise as we thought it would be longer. It was a lovely flight and we flew up towards Cairns and then across Australia towards Darwin. The sky was clear and we had lovely views of this huge country, no houses, long straight roads and beautiful coastline and blue water. Then across Indonesia and lots of little islands and volcanos. I also watched Its Complicated which was very good.
We had rolls and a cup of tea and then it was time to land after a very smooth flight. Phuket airport is small and the runway looks very short!!! No delays to get our cases. Immigration was funny as you have to stand on a red spot on the floor and the man looks at you through a camera and he says in a stern voice @Stand on the spot'
Outside our car was waiting and off we set. The drive took about 40 minutes and we arrived at a lovely hotel, The Marina in Karon Beach. It was on a busy road but once in the grounds it was like being in the jungle.
We were welcomed with a lovely pineapple drink and a cold towel while we did the passport bit and the shown to our accommodation which was a little bungalow along pathways with lovely lush plants growing.
The room was lovely and overlooked the sea. The floor and walls were all wood and so we had to take off our shoes and wear the slippers provided. The bathroom was lovely and it had a separate loo and shower room and the whole place had lots of orchids around.
After unpacking we had a shower and got ready for dinner. We had free internet and the screen was the TV whcih was huge on the wall. I wanted to let the girls know we had arrived so logged on to send a message and then we went out to the bar for a drink.
Walking down the path towards the bar Jon said 'Just wait here a minute I have one more surprise for you' So I waited and he came back and said 'OK it is ready'. We walked to the bar which is outdoors and sitting at the bar were some people, who I thought were strange as they had masks on!!! As I got closer they all took the menus down from their faces and said surprise!!! And to say I was shocked would not describe how I felt to see Jane, Kirsty, Heather, James and Jason all smiling at me!!! I just could not believe it. How Jon had managed to sort it all I will never know. They had had a bet on how long I would cry and Kirsty won as it was less than five minutes but I think I was too shocked to cry. I don't think you can get a better present than that and I am very lucky to have such a thoughtful husband to arrange it all. I then had to have a big pina colada in a coconut to calm me down.
The girls hadn't been calling me recently as they were too scared in case they let something slip! So much for me sending them a message on FB to say we had arrived. Kirsty and James had been in Bangkok since Tuesday as they could not get all the days needed as Kirsty had to be back for Wednesday so they would only be with us for four days. Jane, Heather and Jason had arrived this morning and from 4.00 they had all had to be careful that we didn't see them and had been darting between rooms, so funny.
We went down to the hotel restaurant, The Rock, overlooking the beach for dinner but I was too shocked to eat much and can't remember what we had.
After the most amazing day of my life it was time for bed with a lovely time to look forward to with the family!
WEATHER
