Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Thursday

Heather had today off and we had decided to drive to Oxford as none of us had visited. We set off about 9.30 and Heather asked to stop at the BP on the A14 so that she could have some breakfast so we thought we would have an early coffee. The new Starbucks had opened the day before so we went in and had coffee and a sausage bap which was very nice.

We got back to the car and Jon said we would have to go home as Bertie had leaked. Unfortunately, the first turn off this road is at Quy near Cambridge so we had to drive all the way there and then all the way back to Newmarket.

Jon got himself sorted but it was by now very late and too late to drive to Oxford but we couldn't think what to do so I Googled things to do and came up with the Warner Studios and the Harry Potter set so off we went.

We drove through some heavy rain on the way and arrived about 1.30. The man on the gate asked to see our tickets and we said we didn't have any. He told us they don't sell at the door and he thought it was all booked. Heather told him she had checked on the website and there were spaces for 2.30 and 3.00. He allowed us to park up by the gate and Heather had to use her phone to book the tickets online, pay for them on a card and get an order number. We had to show the man the phone and he let us in and we parked the car.

We walked to the ticket office and showed them the phone and we got the tickets. How absolutely ridiculous!

We went in and had lunch and then went in to our tour. It is all very impressive the way it is done and we really enjoyed it and could have spent longer but we were going out for dinner and had to get back.

The drive home was slow as Jon went on the M25 and it was busy.

We got in, got changed and then Roger and Mary came to pick us up and take us to The Green Man which has a good reputation for steaks, for dinner. We had a lovely evening with Janet and Jim and Ian and Hilary.

The meal was good but I have had better steaks but it was lovely too meet up with old friends and we had a really good night.

Roger and Mary took us home and I said my goodbyes to them as we won't see them again before we leave.

WEATHER
Cloudy with heavy showers but sun in the afternoon/

Wednesday

Jon and I drove to Audley End and caught the train to London. We went to Leicester Square to buy theatre tickets and chose Singing in the Rain for the afternoon performance.

We went to the M&M store which is really big and is amazing to think they can make so much just from a little chocolate sweet.

We went for a very nice lunch to Café Rouge before walking along to the theatre. I stopped to buy a scarf as I was cold and it is always nice to have your neck warm and I had forgotten to bring mine with me. I bought a lovely pink scarf from a shop in Chinatown which was run by an Indian!! and it only cost two pounds!!

We went to the theatre and had an ice cream when we got in and we had really good seats. We both found the first half a bit boring and I was nodding off in parts but the second half was good and I particularly liked the way they had all the rain coming down, very clever.

Once out we walked to Trafalgar Square and had a look around before catching the underground back to Liverpool Street and only had five minutes to wait before our train left but the time had gone by so fast and when we looked it was nearly 7.30. I am not sure where the time went from leaving the theatre!

We finally got back about 9.00 and we bought some food from M&S at the station so just had to cook it. We both felt very tired though.
