We both slept well and came to the conclusion that for an airport hotel the Novotel is very quiet.
We had breakfast which was very good and then packed up. Jon took our overnight bag back to the car and brought th other two cases to the hotel and we crossed the road into the airport.
Check in was not open so we had half an hour to wait so we did some people watching.
We were pretty much first in the line and checked in and were 500grm under. As we only had an hour between landing and our next flight our bags were labelled 'hot transfer'!
We went through to the Koru Lounge and waited. We had a coffee and I used one of the computers and tried to sort out our photos from the South Island. They are on FB now but a little mixed up.
Our flight was called and we went down to the gate and boarded. So far Thai Airways are doing better than Malaysian did last year. The plane was nice and spacious with just two, two and two across.
We were late taking off due to the inflight entertainment system not working so they had to one the door again and let six engineers on to fix it but it made a 30 minute delay. We have a plane to catch! We have never done this before - connection flights - nerve wracking!
The flight was pretty good, all daylight till just before Bangkok. Our first meal, venison, was really good. I enjoyed the second which was rice, prawns and BBQ pork but that was not good for Jon as Bertie is a bit fussy!
I watched Quartet, I'll give it a year, Parental Guidance, which was very funny. I started the Hobbit but found the screen too dark so I gave up. I then watched Don't back down and enjoyed that. I also managed to fit in two episodes of Downton Abbey which we have recorded at home. So all in all very good with still lots to watch on the remaining 36 hours we still have!
Our flight landed half an hour late in fact we got off the plane at 9.02 leaving us 28 minutes to catch our flight!
As we walked through, we were nearly first off, a Thai Airways man was waiting with our names on a card and he hurried us over to a golf buggy and whizzed us through the terminal and to transfer immigration. Once through there we had our bags checked though not sure when we would have had time to add anthing to them!
The security man said don't worry plenty of time and only a 50 minute walk to the gate! Very nice people the Thai people! Our man from Thai was still with us and took us to the gate, it was 9.25 phew
The flight was an hour and we were feeling really tired now and just wanted our bed so the flight felt much longer.
We arrived in a shower of rain but very war. We were vey relieved to see our cases coming through on the carousel and were soon out in arrivals.
Unfortunately, no taxi waiting for us. Jon walked up to the domestic arrivals and he was there as the flight was coming fom Bangkok but we had to clear customs.
It only took 15 minutes to the hotel Nd he gave us a very welcome bottle of water.
First impressions of the hotel are good. It is in the centre of the old city in a very built up area but once in the grounds it is a little oasis with beautiful trees and plants. The rooms are built to be like an old village and we have concrete floors but it is lovely with all we need including dressing gowns, tea, coffee and bottles of water every day plus a lovely bowl of fruit even though I don't know what one of them is?
We unpacked what we needed and went to bed - thank heavens for air con.
WEATHER
Sunny start but raining by the time we took off. 29 degrees in Bangkok.
