A busy day

I still have toothache and I am getting really fed up with it now and think I will have to go back to the dentist.

I had breakfast and then took Tot for a walk and got grass all over my feet again from the park where they have just cut it.

When I got back Victoria was ready and we went out and drove straight to Karangahake Gorge where we stopped for my first time at the cafe across the road and had a lovely coffee. It is a lovely old building with lots of crafts and gifts around the place.

We walked along the path and to the old mine and had a look in there. I then thought we would go along the window walk that James did and he said it was fine. However, he didn't mention that a torch was needed!!! He probably never thought about it as he would have had the light on his phone and we didn't!! We walked so far along but it was pitch black so we turned back and returned the way we came.

When we left the gorge I decided we should go and see some waterfalls close by which Jon and I have been meaning to visit but never have. We went off the road and climbed up a hill and came to a bend in the road and a waterfall was going under it. We carried on up as we thought there must be a better view but found nothing so came back to the bridge and parked the car. We had a look at the falls and we both felt disappointed. We got back into the car and headed down the hill and then Victoria said she could see something through the trees so we parked in a lay by and walked down a track and there they were Owaharoa Falls and they were really pretty. Victoria said she would like to come back in the summer and go for a swim in the pool at the bottom but not today!!

We drove along to see Victoria Battery which is the remains of the old mine workings. A good photo opportunity for Victoria. She told me her name is not common in USA but of course over here there are lots of things named Victoria after the Queen who was reigning at the time of the pioneers settling here. So I took her photo by the sign.

We then drove into Waihi and had a look at Martha's Mine which is an open gold mine and really huge. We then had a nice Subway for our lunch and headed on to Katikati to see the murals. I think by now Victoria was really tired and so we headed home.

We got home and had time to have a cuppa before going out to meet Heather for netball. I went to the supermarket and the health food shop to get some oil of cloves for my tooth but the lady in the shop said it might burn and to try the hydrogen peroxide first so off to the chemist to buy that, not sure I like the idea though but I will do anything to get rid of the pain.

I cooked dinner and the girls eventually came back so we were very late having dinner. Victoria had all her packing to do and boy does she have a lot!!! I don't know how she manages to carry it all. She is going to leave a small bag of stuff here.

Off to bed now as I need to be up and out to take Victoria to bus at 7.15

WEATHER
Cloudy and cooler 15 degrees but a little bit of sun.
