Thursday, Boxing Day
We woke to another lovely day, very early but felt rested.
We had some of the lovely, huge pawpaw from our fruit basket and I had a lovely passion fruit. It is a shame Jon is not allowed them as they are really big and delicious, a different variety from NZ.
We went across for breakfast at 8.30 and had a plate of fruit and a banana muffin freshly baked looking out to the reef. I will never forget this holiday.
Jim, owner, said he was going to boil up the turkey bones and make soup and if we were around at 1.00 we could have some. I don't think I fancy soup in this heat!
We got ready and went for a drive around the island and to look for a palace built of coral by the Brits many years ago. It proved difficult to find and was really not worth it as it looked like an old run down house!
We went into town as I desperately needed a hat to tame my wild island hair which is taking a beating with the open top car, soft water, salt and sea, too.
Would you believe a shop had Boxing Day sales mostly island clothing but it was very busy. I did manage to buy a hat, too.
We wanted to find the old road which goes around the island but we kept ending up on the main road and I was by now very hot and sweaty as was Jon. We stopped to buy a bottle of water and then I said let's just go on to the hotel where we enjoyed a coffee yesterday so we did.
So nice to get onto the beach under their lovely canopy and enjoy a coffee.
We then went to the beach for an hour and decided that our beach and our hotel, although not posh, is by far the better. The beach is nicer and quiet and the hotel very friendly.
I had a swim in the lagoon and then we went back to the hotel where we had coffee and we had lunch which was very good. We ordered ice cream for pudding and it took over half an hour for them to bring it and only then when I asked where it was. But you don't get cross here as it does no good!
We then drove back and Jon had a sleep in the hammock and I went to the beach and lay in the sun and had a swim and then lay in the sun and had a swim........... All afternoon.
It was Music and Cocktails at Sunset in the beach hut this evening but after a shower we decided to stay on our deck, where we could see and hear everything that was going on, and have our nibbles for dinner as we had a big lunch.
The sunset was lovely this evening and we enjoyed sitting admiring the view till bedtime.
Really sorry to be leaving tomorrow, I think this is one of the best holidays we have ever had. I know we have been very lucky to visit all the places we have but we don't often have a relaxing holiday in the sun like this as we are usually 'seeing' things. One good thing, at least we know we are going back to a summer.
