Friday

Up bright and early and had breakfast and got ready for the shop, nice to see some sun again.

Work was pretty quiet this morning and I was glad that Jane, one of the new Lions members, turned up to the Red Cross and I took her through the things we do. she has a little girl of four years old and she would like to help when she can to fit around kindy. She seemed to enjoy her morning and found a very nice pair of shorts for a fraction of the price in the boutique so went home very happy. I think I did a good job with her training - one pair of shorts on her first day!!

The rest of the morning was quiet. I did manage to get a conversation out of Jessica about her family. She told me her sister studied law and history at uni and has now finished. I asked her if she was working and she said yes at Subway!!!

I left just after one o'clock and went to the Sallies to find a nightie to wear at our Lions dinner for our skit as the Red Cross didn't have one cheap enough. I found a very nice one which I will keep and wear again when I am over 70!

I got caught in a heavy shower walking to my car so was a bit damp when I got home.

I had lunch and then started on my Christmas cake.

I mixed it and it was a huge mix and far too big to fit in my prepared tin - I think I must have borrowed one from Alison in the past. I had to leave the mix and go to the Warehouse where I spent ten minutes trying to decide square or round - I went for round.

I got home and washed the tin and lined it and finally managed to get the cake into the oven at 5.00. I don't think I have EVER had such a long drawn out way of making my Christmas cake.

Jon came home and we watched the news and then he went out for our fish and chips which were very good and I made my own mushy peas.

We watched TV and I checked on my cake which still had an hour and a half to go but was smelling strong. Just as well I checked as it was done, you just can't trust oven temperatures. I have left it to cool and will splash it with more brandy tomorrow and then wrap it up.

Three weeks tonight we will be in the airport hotel at Auckland AND three weeks tonight we will be in Aitutaki!! Confusing? I think so.
