Sunday Hanmer Springs - Nelson

I didn't sleep so well last night. I woke at 2.30 and could not get back to sleep for ages, too much going on in my head!

The weather was not too bad this morning and was dry and we could see the mountains, scoff!

After breakfast we packed up and went down to the Hot Pools. Unfortunately, they don't open till 10.00 so we had a spare 20 minutes to wait.

Once in I got changed and Jon had bought a paper so sat in the cafe after taking some photos of me in the pool. There are lots of pools at different temperatures and a few sulphur pools, really hot 40 degrees! There are hydrotherapy pools and just some nice sitting in pools. I went to the family area and had fun being pushed around lying on a float in a whirlpool.

I thought I had better get out after an hour as we had a long journey ahead but I could have stayed all day.

Once showered and dressed I bought a coffe to take away and we set off.

We stopped to take a photo of the gorge where they do the Bungy jump and then carried on.

It was a lovely drive through Lewis Pass but I could not enjoy it as we were very low on fuel and Jon had thought there would be fuel stations - wrong. We made a gas station with 56km to go on the clock but the next one was much further so not sure what we would have done.

We arrived in Murchison just as it started to rin. We had our lunch in the car and then went to walk over the longest swing bridge in NZ 110mtrs. I did try to walk across but once over the river in the gorge I had to stop as it was bouncing so much. Jon went cross and we did get some photos. Too wet to enjoy really.

Back in the car and on we went. The rain got much worse and by the time we got to the outskirts of Nelson we had thunder and lightening and you could hardly see the road. I was so glad by the time we reached the centre.

We bought some provisions at the supermarket and then went to our motl which is very nice.

After unpacking and a cup of tea I took some washing to the laundry room. I am looking forward to clean jeans. It all took ages to dry and I had many trips across the car park in the rain and thunder to see to it in between cooking the dinner. I ended up putting some on the heated towel rail and I hope it will dry by morning.

We have Internet but not much and Jon has read all of his books. I asked at reception if they had any he could borrow and she said yes but would want them back when we left and I was not sure he would get through one in three days. I explained that he could download one but we did not have enough Internet so she kindly said just go for it and no charge, very friendly lady.

Our dinner was good, simple potatoes and veg and lamb steaks cooked in an electric frying pan. I have never used one and it was very good.

We watched the London Marathon and then went to bed. I saw on the news that they have had more floods in Tauranga and the surrounding area.

No dishes to do tonight as we have a dishwasher.

I have to read this over and over when typing on my iPad as I make so many  mistakes not to mention the suggested words it puts in automatically  but it is better than having to catch up once we are back in Tauranga.

WEATHER
After a dry start we had lots of rain.
