Christmas lunch

We woke to a much nicer day today and as Jon had a valet booked for his car we thought we would just walk up to the garden centre for coffee but I didn't think it was a good idea to leave the house open to a man we don't know from Adam so we just waited till he had finished.

I rang Nosh, a nice food shop, and asked if they had any fresh turkeys and they did so after going for a coffee we went and bought one. Fortunately, they had one that was just about 8lbs and more than enough for us. I took the cold bag and ice blocks to put it in the car as it was so warm.

We then went to the shop I had bought Jon's Christmas present from as the power bag had no power packs!! They are supposed to give them when you buy the bag as they don't put them in the bag as they could be stolen but the sales person forgot!!

We then drove into Tauranga and Heather did some souvenir shopping and we went for lunch which was very nice but a bit hot sitting outside.

Heather decided she wanted me to teach her to knit. Her friend has had a baby and she wants to knit it something!!! Never having knitted a stitch she thought she would start on a jacket. The lady in the shop said a hat would be a good start and so we bought a pattern and some wool and needles and took them home - watch this space!!

We had thought about going out to McLaren Falls but by the time we had finished shopping it was time to get home and put the turkey in the oven.

I prepared all the dinner and Heather sat in the sun and as it was so hot I gave her a bowl of cold water to put her feet in. Jon had a sleep on the sofa.

I started to show Heather how to knit but sitting outside was far too hot to learn so we tried again when she came in. I found her some pictures on the Internet and she followed them to cast on but it all looked strange as her tension was not good so we had to take it out. I have now suggested we start with just ten stitches till she gets used to it and we will go from there. We have the added problem of her being left handed!!!

The turkey dinner was very nice and we all enjoyed it and now Heather does not feel she has missed out. It is a shame she did not tell me sooner she wanted a Christmas dinner as it would have been much better to cook it on Christmas Day as today was so hot in the kitchen.

We had a Heston Blumen whatever his name is, pudding and it was really yummy.

We watched some TV and I did my ironing and now I am feeling very tired so I am off to bed.

WEATHER
Sunny spells and hot 25 degrees but feels much hotter.

A P.S. FROM YESTERDAY
When we were driving to the shops yesterday we were behind a scruffy looking car and in the outside lane was a van type old people carrier thing with some young lads in. One of the lads was hanging out of the window and holding a cigarette in the air. The scruffy car driver was having a conversation with them, we were in slow moving traffic, and he pulled his car close and they passed him something out. We drove on a bit and the car in front then pulled right over to the other car nearly smashing into him and he gave him something before roaring off in his car and screeching across the roundabout and tearing off at great speed down the road. We assume it was drugs but what a very odd way to buy them!!!! Never a policeman when you need one.
