Baking Marathon

I had a really enjoyable day today and didn't leave the house.

Jon left for work and I got stuck in to all the chores I have been putting off. I wrapped all the stocking fillers for Heather and then weighed them, 2.9kgs, so that I know how much she can buy when she is here!!!

The gardener came this morning and tidied up the garden so it is all looking nice, she won't be back now till the New Year. I had bought her a little present and she seemed very pleased with it.

I got a lot of backing done today but it was so hot and I really didn't choose a good day to bake. Once out of the fridge the butter was melting in next to no time and my pastry got very soft so I had to work fast. I have finally finished the butter cream icing on the coffee cake and chocolate cake tonight and they are all boxed up and in the freezer which is now very full. I made some sweet potato croquettes which I think Heather will like as she likes kumara so they, too, are in the freezer plus the mince pies.

I got my washing done and dried so another tick on my list.

I stopped for my lunch and watched a bit of TV and then got back into it. I would have liked to sit outside but thought I had better keep going.

I had a quick phone call from Kirsty this morning. The light bulb in the porch has broken and they couldn't get the cover off the light to change it and wanted to know how to do it!!! The light has been up there for about 27 years and so I told her they would probably have to force it and it would break and it did. I told them to buy a new one which they will do. They were just on the way out to Tesco so we didn't speak long but they are all OK.

I put some photos on FB this afternoon just as a break from cooking.

Jon came home from work early as he had been to have his hair cut. He made a cup of tea which then made us late and not really very hungry for our dinner!

I had a test from Les to give me her number in Oz. She said it is very hot over there but she is OK.

I am now sitting in the office and thinking about going to bed. I think we might need the fan on tonight as it is unbearably hot and humid. We shouldn't complain though.

WEATHER
Hot and humid 28 degrees
