After walking Tot I left home at 9.00 for my drive to Paeroa to met up with Sue, an old friend from Newmarket and her daughter Helen and her baby. Helen now lives in Auckland and Sue is here on holiday.
We met in a bar in Paeroa and had coffee and a chat. Baby Isabelle is adorable and so placid, she just sits, well wriggles, and smiles and is so sweet.
We went for a walk down the main street and took some photos at the big L&P bottle (a drink that used to be made in Paeroa and is the only bit of interest in the town).
We then drove on to Karagahake Gorge where we had lunch and more chat and catch up.
After lunch we went for a walk into the gorge and Sue really liked it. Helen has been there before with her husband. At the end of the track you can go into the mine and I told Sue and Helen to go in as they would be able to see some glow worms. I have been in many times so stayed outside with the baby in her pushchair. Sue does not like tunnels but was very brave and after holding Helen's hand they managed to go in and see some glow worms so all worth it.
We walked back to the car park and it was time to say goodbye. I really enjoyed meeting up with them. I commented to Sue that it was amazing to think that four years ago we would never have imagined that we would one day meet up in NZ!! Life is strange.
I drove back and stopped in the supermarket to get some provisions for our trip tomorrow to this very 'out of the way' part of NZ and we are really looking forward to it.
I cooked a nice sauce with mince and veg to go with pasta tonight and I really enjoyed it with a glass of wine.
