It was a bit cloudy this morning but not cold so after taking the dog out we decided to go out for a drive.
We haven't been to the central area so headed off to Tokoroa. It took us just over an hour to get there and on the way it started to rain as we were going over the Kaimai mountains and I wished I hadn't put my washing out!
However by the time we got over the 'hill', as it is known locally, the rain had stopped and it was brighter. We arrived in Tokoroa and it was not a very nice place. I had a leaflet about the town saying it had a trail around the town to see the 'Talking Poles' which are carved wooden poles, some of them very big and they all have meanings but they are very obscure! There is a huge saw mill in the town and so timber is a big part and a way of life. We walked around but we both agreed it is probably the worst place we have visited. I should have expected it really as there was nothing about it in the Lonely Planet so should have been prepared.
We bough sandwiches and a take away cup of tea and went up to the 'scenic lookout' and even that was scruffy with rubbish all over the place. I am sure the views would be lovely on a clear day but as it was cloudy we couldn't see much and won't be going back to check out the view on a clear day.
We drove back through some lovely countryside but it was raining and not a nice drive back.
My washing was very wet and I had to put it all in the dryer.
Jon wanted to light the fire but I said it wasn't cold enough. It was raining hard but still warm. We had roast lamb for dinner and the oven always warms up the room anyway.
WEATHER
Cloudy first thing followed by rain in the afternoon and heavy rain at night.
