We were up and out with Totty very early for us on a Sunday. I seems to spend my time checking my emails waiting for news from Barb.
We decided to go out for breakfast to the local garden centre as it is on the way to Tirau where we were going to visit. How come when other people order breakfast it always looks so nice but when you order it never lives up to expectations. I should have had the fruit salad as I never enjoy cooked breakfast. I had bacon and scrambled eggs and the bacon was so crisp it shattered and the eggs were more like a huge omelette. Jon's was better as he had poached eggs I'll stick to the fruit or muesli in future.
We drove to Tirau which is a small town on the way to Hamilton which is famous for the corrugated iron art work. It took us about an hour and was worth the drive. It is a very small place but has lots of lovely gift and art and craft shops and a lovely Jade shop. The Tourist Information office is housed in a big corrugated iron dog building and there is a gift shop next door selling wool products that is a huge sheep. It was lovely to walk around looking for all the art work.
Jon was still full of breakfast so we skipped lunch and drove out to the museum which was like a tardis. It looked like a little shed from outside but had a huge collection of all sorts of things from coins and military things to vintage cars and carriages and a shop set out like the old village store. We thought we would only be in there for half an hour but spent a good two hours there and still didn't see it all. In fact, I don't think the owner knows what he has as there is so much stuff around.
We got back in time to take Totty out and have a cup of tea which I was more than ready for. Sadly when I logged on to the computer there was an email from my sister to say that my brother-in-law had died. I feel so bad for her as she was not with him.
I called her before I went to bed and had a chat with her. I feel so helpless. So glad she has her son's close by.
WEATHER
Sunny but with a definite nip in the air first thing. Clear blue skies but a chilly feel.
