Took Totty out and then went over to Welcome Bay for coffee as it was on our way to Mark's house. The weather was so warm, just like summer again after all the rain we have had.
We found the house which is high on a hill with some wonderful views across the bay. He owns lots of land around him and his son and daughter both have houses on the surrounding land but you can't see them. He has lots of Kiwi fruit orchards and has mandarins, oranges and apples. He also rears his own beef and lamb, has free range chickens and his grandson, who is ten, has his own duck pond where he is breeding ducks. It is a really lovely place and so peaceful. They have a lovely deck area and a swimming pool. That said I would not like to live there it is too far out of town.
We went down to one of the Kiwi fruit orchards and although the professional pickers have been in and stripped it for market there were still lots left and it took us five minutes to pick a big bucket full. We then went to pick to mandarins and they are so sweet and juicy and easy to peel. Mark said to go along with any friends and pick as much as I like any time I want to.
We then went back up to the house where Val, Mark's wife had set out lunch of cold meats, salad and bread and we had a very pleasant afternoon and I enjoyed a glass of wine!!! We sat inside, as it was a bit hot to sit out on the deck as they have put the sunshade away, with all the doors open it is hard to believe that tomorrow if the first day of winter and it is 18 degrees!!!
We got home and Jon did a bit of tidying up outside and I pottered about inside. We took Totty out and then I cooked some very nice pork fillet with apples and made a lovely cauliflower dish to go with it.
WEATHER
Beautiful sunshine all day, really warm.
