A very wet Wellington

I didn't sleep very well as it was too hot in the room and didn't know how to change the AC without putting a light on and waking Jon so I suffered, we will have to sort it for tonight.

We had a lovely breakfast which included lovely muesli mixed with yogurt and fruit and a cherry compote on top mmmmm! I followed that with some ham and cheese and a piece of toast. Jon tried the cooked but as it was buffet it was not so good as it is always left standing.

After breakfast we set off walking to Te Papa, the very big museum which the Kiwis are very proud of. It was a bit overcast and rain was not far away but we managed to get to the museum before it got too heavy. We realised how close to hotel we were last night!

The museum is all free and enormous and the Kiwis are right to be proud of it. At the entrance you can leave your coat, bags and in our case, umbrellas. They give you a token to wear on a band and you just collect on your way out. Just as well as it was so hot in there and it was nice being hands free.

Of course the first thing we did was have a coffee and look at the plan. We decided to go along with the 'must see' list of things first and then fill in with everything else until we were tired.

It was all really good and the simulated ride around NZ was really rough, too rough really but good fun. We then went on the deep sea simulator which was much calmer and took us on a journey into the Bay of Plenty and we saw some of the underwater volcanoes that have recently been discovered - I hope they never erupt as they are not too far from us!!! We went into a little wooden house and experienced an earthquake and I hope we never have to go through one of those either. Somewhere along the way we stopped for lunch and the cafe had lovely armchairs to relax in and it was hard to get moving again! All in all it was a really good and just the place to spend a very wet day as by the time we came out the rain was pouring but it is Wellington! We got a taxi back to the hotel.

After a nice cup of tea I had a lovely sleep for half an hour.

We had dinner in hotel as we really couldn't face going out to find somewhere and our feet were very sore.

I was certainly not the best meal we have had and was very expensive, the pudding was so bad we didn't eat it and the waiter, who was very nice and it wasn't his fault anyway, took it off the bill. We should have gone out in a taxi!

Bed was very welcome.

WEATHER
Woke up to drizzle, then rain, then heavy rain and back to light rain and then dry 15 degrees.
