New Year's Eve and sober as!!!

Once again it rained all night long and very heavy and it was still raining this morning and continued to do so all day stopping at about 7.00 this evening and starting again just after midnight!

Jon and I went to the supermarket that has an undercover car park and we just nipped into the coffee shop next door for a coffee.

I did the bit of shopping and then went to find a liquor store to buy some Blackcurrant Sours for Heather for tonight. The supermarkets here only sell wine and beer so you have to go to special stores for spirits.

As i wasn't sure what I was looking for and it was pouring with rain I went into the shop and left Jon in the car. I thought they would be in small bottles a bit like UK but they only had a litre bottle so I had to go back to the car to call Heather as I had left my phone in the car and so I got wet again. It was the right thing so then went back to buy it and got wet again. I hope she enjoys this stuff for all the effort.

Got home and toasted paninnis for lunch and then watched Notting Hill which I really enjoyed and haven't seen it before.

I made a nice salad to take with us tonight thought not sure where we will be due to all the rain. Mike is cooking a sheep on a spit bbq no doubt in his front porch!!

We went over to Mike's at 7.30 and saw lots of police out on the streets so I don't think I will have even one glass tonight as I am driving!

As parties go for NY it was not very good. Nice people to chat to and the lamb was good but all a bit lacking for New Year for me but then it usually is down here.

Midnight came and went and as there was no countdown on the TV this year we weren't sure when it was. Mike had some fireworks and nobody wanted to sing Auld Lang Syne!!! so that was it 2012!

We left at about 12.30 and I drove home in the rain having only had a couple of sips of sparkling wine!! Never mind I will have to make up for it when we go out tomorrow to celebrate UK New Year unless everyone is too hungover!!

What can I say....... RAIN!!!!!

I feel for the many typical Kiwis or on their usual camping holiday at this time of year. All the campsites are a washout and concerts and festivals have been cancelled such a shame. We have never seen so much rain at this time of year since we have been here. The forecast is 'it will get better by Tuesday' - fingers crossed.

On my way to work this morning it was so wet and misty I could not even see across the causeway bridge but was told there were lots of tents blown over in the campsite, I am glad we are in our creaky house and it is certainly that at the moment.

I arrived at work very wet and the shop was unusually quiet so Les, Sharon and I had a good catch up over a cup of green tea which I now really enjoy.

We unpacked some boxes of ladies tops and dresses and I found a really lovely dress which, after trying on I bought for all of $12 - £6 and it is beautiful and so feminine.

Les had brought some lovely cake in that had been given to her son in law and as he does not like fruit cake he gave it to her. It is so moist and more like a Christmas pudding and went down very well with our coffee. Fortunately, due to the bad weather, I was able to cross the road without waiting for the traffic as there was none so made it over and back for the coffee in a couple of minutes.

The shop became very busy later on as people had nothing else to do and the takings will have been quite high I should think.

I left at 1.00 and went off to do a bit of shopping before going home to have lunch. I watched a bit of TV and then sent more emails and I think I have just about finished them now.

Jon and Heather came home and Jon later went over to Maungatapu for our fish and chips but called me to say they only had frozen fish so after his beer in the pub he came all the way back and bought them at the local shop and the fish was much better than the first time we had it from them so maybe we will give them another go.

I saw on the news this evening that the driver of the car in which two young girls were killed just up the road from here on Christmas Day has been charged with manslaughter and two other people have been arrested as it appears they were racing and drunk and the two girls did not have seat belts on. So sad for this to happen. They were all Maori and I am not saying they are all the same but they do seem to behave in a stupid way as far as driving is concerned, drink too much and don't wear seat belts - such a waste.

More horrible weather!

Well it may still be 21 degrees but it is pretty horrible weather for the time of year and the forecasters can see no change until at least Monday so we have to make the most of the little bits of sunshine that occasionally break through!

And with the above in mind there was no chance of getting Tot out this morning as when it was dry the binmen were around! I finally got her out about 2.00.

I spent the morning sorting out my jewellery box. Heather bought me a lovely big one for Christmas and so I sorted all my things out and found all sorts of earrings and necklaces that I haven't worn for ages. Hopefully, it will now stay tidy and I can wear more of it.

I had a nice phone call with Kirsty this morning and chatted about the wedding and Christmas and things.

I spent most of the day on the computer sorting out photos and typing a 'New Year' letter as I didn't get a Christmas one done. I have sent it out to lots of people via email and now I just need to do the ones by post and I will feel better.

I also transferred all the birthdays onto the new calendar so although it was raining I got a lot done.

We had pork chops for dinner followed by chocolate tart which was very good. I can at last see into the fridge, I hate it being overcrowded with food, it puts me off eating.

The new induction hob was delivered today but I have not heard anything from the owner as to when it is going to be installed.

I have the Red Cross tomorrow and after two days of not going out it will be nice.

No swimming today!

I missed not going to my aqua aerobics this morning, we don't go back till 9 Jan!!

I didn't waste the day though. I was on my own as Heather and Jon were both at the office so 'dragged' Tot out for a walk when I met the next door neighbour who is a bit posh she says she will have us round for drinks after the holiday rush. I told her we are going to be busy till February as I am not sure we will get on very well.

When I got back I did all my cleaning and four loads or washing and managed to get it all dry which was lucky as it did look like rain for a while.

After lunch and an episode of Downton Abbey I did all, well nearly all, the ironing. I cooked a pasta dish for dinner and used up more of the ham, it has gone a long way!! I also made a chocolate tart that Heather has been pestering me for so all in all a good day but now I am very tired.

Not the best Christmas weather!

Another lie in this morning which was nice but we were still up to see the tide come in by 8.30.

Jon went out into the garden to do a bit more cutting back. I don't think this garden has been touched, apart from the grass being cut, for a long time.

I tried to take Tot out but she wouldn't walk so we had to come back - she heard some children shouting in a garden and that was it!!

We went into Tauranga to get the part missing from the giant tennis game and we had coffee. We also went to buy some shower mats as the one I have in the downstairs room leaves fluff on Heather's feet!!!

We then went across to the Mount and had a look around the shops before going for lunch and then onto the cinema to watch Happy Feet 2 which I really enjoyed and had a little cry but didn't let Heather see!!!

We got back and had a cup of tea and then walked Tot.

We had a really good dinner tonight and very lazy some of the very good ham I bought, chip shop chips, fried egg and baked beans and it was so good followed by lemon meringue pie.

Boxing Day

We all had a little lie in this morning and a late breakfast.

Jon and I took Tot out and when we got back we set off for Rotorua stopping, of course, for a coffee on the way.

We got to the luge and it wasn't too busy and as we have annual passes we didn't have to wait and went straight on to the Gondola.

I didn't want to go on the luge so sat reading my book on the terrace.

We then went to the Fat Dog but it was closed so went to the shopping area in Rotorua which we have never been to and ate at Burgerfuel which was OK.

We then went round the shops and I found a nice pair of Nike cropped trousers for the gym that were greatly reduced in the sale. We bought a few other bits and Jon and Heather found a tennis set which they bought for the garden!!!

We then went back to Tauranga and stopped at Bayfair on the way to see if we could find a teddy bear in Farmers (a department store). They have one every year and it comes with the date on but we only buy them AFTER Christmas when they are reduced by 60% so far we have three!!!

Back home we had a cup of tea and then we played tennis in the garden and the dog loved it and kept chasing the ball so we all had a good bit of exercise.

We just had cold ham and bits for dinner tonight while sitting in front of the TV and we watched the King's Speech which Jon bought me for Christmas. I had seen it on a plane and the picture was very dark but it was so much better on TV.

I am starting to look for a wedding outfit now. I probably should have started before now as all the summer stuff is in the sale so not a lot left. I might have a look in Australia when we are there or Hong Kong.

Cloudy with some sun 21 degrees

Christmas Day

We woke to a not sunny morning!!!

Heather opened her stocking presents and then we had breakfast.

It was a lovely calm morning and Jon and I went out on the kayak and then he went with Heather and they went all the way to Rotary park and were very tired when they got back.

We took Tot for a walk after opening our presents I got an iPod not sure I will ever get it to work!! We had a call from Kirsty and she said she did not think she would get to talk to us on Christmas Day as she would be working. I got some lovely presents and was very happy with them as was Jon and Heather with theirs.

I packed the picnic and we headed off to the beach. I thought it was cold and a little windy but we got a lot of sunburn and we didn't put any cream on which was very silly of us even though we were only out in it for a couple of hours at most. The lunch was OK but I was not impressed with the quiche I made but the champagne and strawberries were very nice.

When we got home we played monopoly and had a cup of tea and cake out in the garden and it was very warm and sunny.

There were lots of people in the park playing on their new kayaks.

We had a nice dinner lamb leg on the bbq, corn, kumara and pigs in blankets

Jane phoned for a chat and seems very happy with Jason.

Cloudy to start then sunny 22 degrees

Christmas Eve!!

We woke to a lovely sunny day and after walking Tot we went into Turanga shopping and had breakfast on the way!

We did the shopping on the way back but I only needed a few things.

I saw my neighbour, Louisa, and asked her if she had a contact address for our neighbour but she said she didn't know them very well. I have to say she is not the friendliest person I have ever met!

I emailed the owner and he gave me the address and phone number of the people here before us so I called him and he sounded very old but said he would call round later to pick up the post.

We had a lovely sunny afternoon and Jon did some gardening while I cooked and Indian meal for dinner.

Jon and Heather went out to the shops for something, can't remember what and while they were out the old owner of the house called for his post. He told me he and his wife sold the house 14 months ago as it was now too big for them and they have a villa in a retirement park. He was very nice and I would like to know more about the house as they lived here for a long time so I might invite them round for a cuppa. He told me that Chris had bought the house to retire in two years!!! This means that we probably only have about a year here which is not what we were told and I will be really p****** off if the owner has misled us - watch this space!

We had dinner which was very nice and we drank too much wine but it is Christmas.dinner

A little more sun would be good

The usual things on Red Cross Day, breakfast, walk Tot, hang the washing out and then get out to the shop and all before 9.00.

The first part of the morning was slow so I kept myself busy and sorted the linen shelves and found a very nice boxed set of Laura Ashley, Nottingham lace place mats for $3. I also bought a very nice framed print by EW Haslehurst called by the quayside. Jon and I really like it but Heather thinks it is boring but it suits this house and so it is now in the hall.

The second half of the morning was busy and it was soon 1.00 and I went off to the supermarket and also picked up the lemon meringue pit I had ordered from the baker - lazy?? I think so!!

I got back and had lunch and watched Downton Abbey. When I turned it off I saw there was a special new flash and it was all about another earthquake in Christchurch, those poor people. I really don't know how they cope it must be awful.

Carol called to wish me a happy Christmas as she leaves for Brisbane tomorrow till 17 January.

I spent the rest of the afternoon wrapping presents and Heather's stocking fillers.

I went over to a pub at Bayfair to meet Heather and some of the Genera people for a drink for Emma's leaving do but I didn't stay long.

When I got back I finished the presents and Jon went over to our old fish and chip shop for our dinner. The fish and chips are much better from there.

We watched Corrie and Heather finally came in.

I did some ironing and watched the Vicar of Dibley Christmas special, very funny.

Where has the sun gone - again!

I can't believe the weather or the weathermen!!! How do they get things so wrong with so much technology?? We were promised sun until after Christmas Day and when I went to bed last night, having left my towel and a few things out on the line. I heard rain and a lot of it!!!

This morning was dry but very dull. I didn't get out in time to take Tot for a walk as the workmen started early today. They are finished now till January so no more noise.

I went out to meet Elizabeth for coffee. I met her through Lions but we haven't had time for a chat for ages so it was really nice to catch up and we stayed chatting till gone 1.00!! She gave me a nice tray of mince pies.

I then went to the supermarket but I forgot my list so will have to go again tomorrow after Red Cross.

By the time I got home I was very hungry - 2.30. Carol the Avon lady arrived just as I got back so lunch was postponed a little longer!!

I finally enjoyed my egg sandwiches at about 3.00

I did some baking this afternoon and made mince pies and lemon slice and I also cooked pork ribs in bbq sauce for dinner which were very nice.

Jon came home and had bought Heather's Christmas present and then Heather arrived and so we all took Tot out for a long walk around an area of Welcome Bay we have not been before. Tot was very tired by the time we got back.

After dinner Jon was very tired, too so I did the dishes and told him to sit down as he did look very tired.

Finally sorted the kitchen out and all the baking dishes and now I am very tired so am off to bed. I do hope the weather picks up or we are going to have a very bad Christmas!!

Cloudy and dull 21 degrees

First swim in the back garden

I got Tot out at 7.30 this morning and we just got back as the workmen arrived so she was a happy little dog.

I went to my aqua aerobics class and it was back to Linda today and the old routine, she really needs to change the music and exercises we have been doing the same old class now for ages!! Never mind any exercise is better than no exercise.

After class we went for a coffee and then I had to leave early to go to the camera shop for the report from Canon about our camera. Not good news as they say it cannot be repaired. WE now have to inform the insurance company to see if they will pay up.

I then went back to the dentist and he says he is baffled by my tooth as he can see nothing wrong with it. If it flares up again he said to go back. He then put a coating on my two front teeth as they had ridges in them and looked not very nice. It was a little painful and he did give me an injection but it was worth it as they look much better.

I went to the supermarket to get some fish for dinner and then I went home. We had quite a few Christmas cards in the box. I always have to be careful taking the post out as the cockroaches seem to like hiding there!!!

I had lunch and watched an episode of Downton Abbey while I had my lunch. Heather came home and went out into the garden and filled the goody bags for the Genera night in January. We sat out for a while and it was really hot. I put my costume on and went for a dip in the water as the tide was in. It is much warmer than the sea, which is always really cold here.

Totty is getting to be very good at taking her treat sticks out of the larder so I must make sure I close the doors properly or she will get very fat!

Jon came home and Heather and him went out on the kayak for a while and I cooked the dinner.

I still haven't thought what we are going to eat for Christmas and only three days to go! I will have to get my thinking cap on tomorrow. It is more relaxed here and I don't have all the stress of buying too much food like everyone does in the UK. Lots of Kiwi families do do that but as it is only us I don't which is very nice. Heather is not enjoying the build up to Christmas as it is not as exciting as back home. Here Christmas is hot and summer holidays so when you are brought up in the UK it is hard to get your head round it all.

Coffee with Ros

It was nice to wake to a brighter day but it needs to get better!

I tried to take Tot but she heard the lorries again and wouldn't go so we just had a walk around the garden.

I did a bit of cleaning before getting ready to go for coffee with Ros (I met her through my keep fit and she spends six months here and six in the UK). I had a bit of trouble finding her house but not too bad. They have a lovely house it is quite new and modern, a bit like our other house. It is really nice and she has some nice views. If we do ever have to move from here I think I would try for another new house as although we have lovely views and a lovely garden here the house is very dated.

Another lady came for coffee, too, Jenifer. She is from Zimbabwe and has been here for nice years and can tell some very interesting stories of life in Rhodesia!!

Ros has sold her house in Angelesy and is going back to sign contracts and things in January and they will then live here all the time. Her daughter who lives in Bury St Edmund's, is due to give birth in February so they will stay in the UK till after that. She has a boy and a girl living here already and her other daughter will come out next year with the baby so she will be very happy to have them all here and she won't have to keep doing the six month trips.

I left there and popped into the salon to have my Shellacs taken off my nails as they were not looking very good now.

I got back and had lunch and then did my housework. The sun is finally out properly and it is really warm so managed to get all the washing dry.

I cooked a chicken dish for dinner and watched TV and finished my ironing at last!!!

I took Tot out and Jon did a bit of gardening and then we had dinner and caught up with an episode of Corrie and now it is time for bed. I have swimming and the dentist tomorrow.

Finally some nice sunshine 22 degrees

A busy day being Santa!!

I could have stayed in bed quite easily this morning but had to get up!

After breakfast I took Tot out but she was in her 'no mood for walking' mood. I got halfway down the road and I had to pick her up and carry her past a garden where the man was cutting the grass!!! I think she is getting worse. Can dogs become agoraphobic??

I went into town and to the post office to post the last of my parcels but as they are not for Christmas they are not late. I then had a coffee before going to the library and then onto the jewellers to get Heather's chain repaired. While I was there I asked him how much it would cost to have a star ruby mounted as a pendent. Jon brought it back for me from India many years ago and I have no idea what it is worth. He suggested I have it valued first and then if it is worth it go ahead. The cost would be $250 to mount it. He gave me the name of a valuer so I will have to take it to him and find out.

I then went and did a bit of shopping before going to the supermarket.

I then went to see Bronwyn and take her card, then Alison, Margaret,Viv and Tricia. All in all it took most of the morning and by the time I got back after buying petrol it was 2.30 and I was very hungry!!

After lunch I was able to bring in all my washing from the line - first time in a week - and it was dry and so I ironed it all while watching TV.

I cooked Greek meatballs for dinner and they were OKish.

After a cup of coffee it was time to bed.

Cloudy but warm 21 degrees

A nice lie in

It was very nice to have a lie in this morning and even better as we woke to rain again.

After breakfast there was a dry spell so we took Tot out.

Jon and I then went out to the tip and then for a coffee. We finally managed to find some carpet grips to put on one of the rugs which keeps walking, hopefully it will work.

I bought some nice steaks at the Aussie butcher and then finally managed to find a narrow bottle brush which I need to try and get the drains in the sinks clean - a little obsessive I know!!

On the way home we dropped in to see Kim and Brent at Te Hono street and had a chat with them and collected our post.

It was late when we got home and we had thought about going to the cinema but it was a bit late.

I spent the whole afternoon ironing!!!!!

We had dinner, the steaks were very good and after clearing up it was nearly time for bed! Another day over and it still doesn't feel like Christmas!!

WEATHER
A mix of showers and dry 20 degrees

Saturday, 17 December 2011

A very quiet day

I really would have liked a lie in this morning but as I had to take Tot to the vet I was up at 8.00 and was really feeling the after effects of last night.

The vet suggested that Tot's bad leg is more to do with her being bored and I think he might be right as it always comes up after a spell in kennels. He gave her an injection, some pills and a tube of cream. He also suggested a couple of toys for her. One is a giggle ball that you put dry food in and as she plays with it the food drops out. You can make the hole smaller as she gets used to it. The other is a rubber tube you put a dollop of peanut butter in so she can smell it but not reach it and this distracts her from licking her paw. All told it cost me $135!!!

We got back and I tried her with the ball and she loves it and it kept her happy for a long time while we went out for breakfast a good remedy for hangovers but I had to drive as Jon and Heather had a lot more to drink than I did.

We got back and Jon went into the garden to at last try out the new mower. I gave Tot her second new toy but as I had no peanut butter I smeared honey inside. She was not as impressed with it as the ball but did play with it for a while. Hopefully, they will do the trick.

Heather and I watched some TV in between me hanging some washing out and then Heather went shopping to buy Emma a present for her birthday on Monday. I watched more TV and did intend to do my ironing but was too tired.

The garden is looking much better now and Jon is enjoying it. We have a few places we need to secure to keep Tot in so once that is done I will be happy to sit out there with her.

We had a bbq tonight but Jon had to cook it in the rain as we had a heavy shower. I have never known such bad weather in December.

Heather went to bed early and Jon was tired and went to bed and I was left to do the dishes as I had had a sneaky ten minute nap this afternoon.

Tot is very tired, too so hopefully the new toys are working.

Christmas Party time

We woke to a lovely sunny morning and it was so good to see the sun again after all the rain. However, I think we might be in for more rain later.

I tried to take Tot out for a walk but as she could hear some of the heavy machinery down the road working on the pipes she just would not walk so back we went. I hope nobody was looking out of their windows or they would think I was mad with the pushing and pulling of her! My car was booked in for a service this morning so I had to be out early.

I left the car at 8.30 and then walked to the Red Cross and both Les and Sharon were surprised to see me so early. We had a good morning and I put out lots of children's things and tidied it all again as it gets in such a mess when I am not there. Viv and Margaret came in to see us after the keep fit Christmas coffee morning which they said was good with lots of food.

I left to go and collect my car and it was still lovely and sunny. I went straight to the book rooms to help tidy things up but I was so hungry as I had forgotten to buy a sandwich. I did have a cup of tea and a piece of cake which kept me going till I got home.

When I got back it was too late to have lunch so I had some nuts and then got ready for the Christmas dinner. It started to rain and was really heavy so Tot didn't get an afternoon walk.

We had booked a taxi which arrived and took us into Tauranga and it was then a lovely sunny evening. We were not looking forward to the meal as we have been to this restaurant chin in the Mount and it was terrible but I have to say the meal was very good and everyone enjoyed it. We had to rearrange the tables as they had set three separate ones and so we joined two together which was better. I was introduced to Kahlua and Baileys shots and very nice they are, too.

After the dinner we sat outside and had a few drinks and it started to pour with rain. Lisa went and found a taxi for her and Michelle and her taxi driver called one for us and we came home. Not as late as last year but a good night. I have to take Tot to the vet for 9.30 tomorrow so just as well we weren't late.

WEATHER
Beautiful sun first thing 21 degrees and we ended with heavy rain

Will this rain never stop?

Heather and I got up really early this morning so that we could go and see some of the little rescues blue penguins being released but as it was pouring with rain and I had a dentist appointment later on I decided not to go.

I was on my way to the dentist and passed Heather on her way back and she was soaked to the skin so I was glad I didn't go. She said it was really cute to see all the penguins running from the cages to the water - I'll believe her!!

The dentist still can't find why I still have a sore tooth after so much time and so gave me another course of antibiotics and I have to go back next week.

I did a bit of shopping but in such heavy rain it was not a lot of fun. I went to the Red Cross shop and had a chat to Sharon and then looked for a vase to put my lovely flowers from Carol in. Red Cross had nothing but I bought two vases in the Salvation Army and a wine cooler and a lovely plant pot all for $29 - bargain.

I went to my local supermarket and stopped for a coffee on the way.

After my shopping I went home and had lunch before going to meet Heather at Bayfair to buy the rest of Jon's Christmas present. Heather then went home and I went for my lovely hot stone and deep tissue massage and it was an hour of pure bliss.

When I got back Tot really wanted to go for a walk but doesn't like the rain so there is no point.

I made a chilli for dinner and we watched the rain. We have a few little leaks coming through the beams but I just think it is the exceptional weather and 'norma' rain would not do anything - watch this space.

After dinner we watched some TV and then it was time for bed.

Not such a successful lunch!

I woke to a grey and dull day again but did manage to get Tot out for a walk this morning. We spoke to Kirsty and she sent me some photos of wedding dresses and she looks very nice in them but very expensive.

I went off to my aqua aerobics class which was really good with a new teacher who was very good. After the class Carol, Les and Diane said they would not stay for coffee and went home to get ready to come to lunch.

Once I had showered I saw Monica and Cecily in the changing rooms and said I would see them later. They looked blankly at me and said why? You are coming to lunch with me I replied. Their faces were a picture as they had completely forgotten. Never mind they are old and said they need a note and of course I was not there last week to remind them. Maybe Heather was right when she told Kirsty I had geriatrics coming for lunch!! I said it was only two that were old and of course it was those two who forgot. I was disappointed but never mind.

I stopped for a takeaway coffee on my way back and then prepared everything before getting changed.

Diane arrived first with a very nice plate of fruit followed by Les and Carol who came with lots of goodies and Carol brought a huge bunch of Gladioli but unfortunately I have no vases so I have put them in a bucket and I will have to buy a vase tomorrow. Les brought some nice food, too and a lovely box of biscuits.

We had a nice lunch but the weather was too bad to sit outside and they all like the house and views.

They left at 3.00 as Carol had a man coming to do some work on her house and so once I cleared away I sat and had a lovely afternoon reading my magazine and I think that is the first time I have actually sat and relaxed in this house and it was very nice.

Heather's friend from work, Emma, came round in the evening to play snooker and they had a good old giggle downstairs. She is a very bubbly girls and gave me a big hug when she was leaving. As Jon is her boss she is a bit shy with him.

We had dinner and then caught up with an episode of Corrie - still lots to go!!

The forecast says the weather will not get better till the weekend!!!

Wet but a tiny bit of sun 21 degrees

And it is still raining!!!

I just wish it would stop, I hate rain and three days is just not on, even Tot is getting fed up with it.

I went to my keep fit class and worked really hard and we were all hot and tired and it is very humid but it did stop raining for a little while.

I then went to the shops and did my shopping for lunch tomorrow and bought some Christmas presents and also went to the post office.

When I got back we had no power so I couldn't do my baking. I was late anyway so just had a sandwich and then rushed out for my hair appointment.

On the way back I bought a star cutter to make my mince pies. I got in and we had power, it had been a big cut as it affected as far as Auckland but not all parts of this area, our old house was OK.

It was getting late and I don't know where the time went but I had to rush to get ready for our Lions Christmas dinner this evening as I had to pick up Helen and Jean.

By the time I got out it was raining again! We had a nice dinner but the Christmas pudding was pretty heavy going.

I got back and did some bits that I need to have ready for tomorrow as the ladies will come over after the class so I won't have much time to do anything tomorrow. I am doing a cheeseboard and a salad. I also have a fresh pineapple which I have cut up and added some fresh mint - yummy, I love it. We also have mince pies. I had intended to make scones but the power outage put paid to that. Never mind I am sure we will have enough.

Off to bed now and pray for a dryer day but I think the forecast says not!!

Still more rain

Another wet morning, this is so not nice to have this rain after all our lovely hot weather last week even though everyone says we need the rain!!!

I spent the whole day doing my housework and changing the beds but it all looks nice now. I finished putting up the decorations, well, as many as I am putting up, and it all looks festive though nowhere near as festive as England does. I finished writing my cards and need to get them off tomorrow morning or they won't get there before Christmas. I added up how much I had spent on cards and postage and it is scary. I think I really will cut down next year and give the money to charity instead, it really is a waste.

The new patio furniture finally arrived at 4.30 though if this weather continues till Wednesday as forecast we will all be sitting inside.

I made a cake this afternoon for the Lions Youth Camp and I need to get another one done before I go to the dinner meeting tomorrow night though I am not sure when I will have the time!!

Heather has been home all day working and it would be much better if she went downstairs to the office as it slows me down.

I did manage to get out for a walk with Tot but it was starting to rain again by the time I got back.

Jon came home and started to put the table and chairs together, he still has three chairs to go.

I did a huge pile of ironing after dinner tonight while watching Midsummer Murders. I am nearly up to date with all the holiday washing now.

Really tired tonight so off for an earlyish night.

Another wet day

Once again I was up very early 6.30! It is just like jet lag but Fiji has no time difference!!!

I went onto the computer and caught up a little with my blog and emails - still not there yet though!!

Eventually, Jon got up and ready and I took Tot out for her walk.

Heather went to the gym and Jon and I went into town to buy a few things. We went to the Chapel for coffee and then to Briscoe's and bought what we needed.

On the way back we went to our old house in Maungatapu. Unfortunately, our neighbours were having an 'open day' and were out so we could not collect the mail. Jon went up the drive to speak to the new owners and give them our address but they were not in. He said it looked a real mess up there and there were two cars a motorbike and a Ute all parked outside plus lots of plant pots and things outside the garage. I don't know why you would buy a place like that if you have so many cars and so little parking. Poor Kim next door must be tearing her hair out as they are trying to sell but Jon says it looks a real mess.

I was talking to Bronwyn and Peter across the road while Jon went up the drive and some people went into see Kim's place but were back out again pretty quick so obviously didn't like what they saw. I found some post in the box which was addressed to us so took it out.

We got back home and I made lunch and then watched some TV with Heather while Jon went back out to the garden, he is really enjoying having a garden again.

I spent the afternoon doing washing and ironing and cooked some nice belly port for dinner.

It was very late when Jon finished in the garden and I got dinner sorted and enjoyed a glass of wine.

WEATHER
Rain and cloud

What a horrible day to come back to!

I woke up very early and could not go back to sleep so got up.

I logged on and sorted lots of emails and then Jon got up and I went for my shower. Heather went to the gym and then Jon and I went for Totty.

She was very happy to see us but was very smelly so had a bath as soon as we got back.

We were supposed to have people coming for a bbq this afternoon but due to the weather we cancelled it.

I did lots of washing but had to hang it on the dryer on the downstairs deck as it was still raining, just as well my dryer is fixed.

Jon and I went out for coffee and then we went to the Warehouse to look for a patio set for the downstairs area. As we walked in I saw one of the Lions ladies collecting for the Christmas Tree baubles for the Cancer Soc and I went over to her and asked her if I was due on today and she told me I was due on at 10.00 - 12.00 and it was now 11.50!!!! I had completely forgotten about it and as no reminder email went out so did the following two ladies. I felt really bad. Jon went in and found the patio set and I sat and waited with Jean until the next lady came after we had given her a call. Ooops!

We then went to the supermarket and did the shopping and got home and cooked lunch.

Jon pottered about in the garden and Heather and I watched some of the mountain of programmes we have recorded.

Jon and Heather went Christmas shopping and I made some nice strawberry shortcake.

I took Tot out for her walk and she seems very happy to be home.

We had some fish for dinner and then watched some Coronation Street.

WEATHER
Lots of rain clearing in the afternoon but very windy 20 degrees

Back home

We all got up early today and were out in the sun by 8.00 and it was so hot. Heather and I went for a swim as it was too hot sitting by the pool. So sad it is our last day. The sea was calm too and we could have had our boat trip across to the island but we didn't have enough time.

At 9.30 we went in to have breakfast. Jon had the full buffet and I had my usual toast and honey and finally got a good, strong pot of tea!!!

We got back to our room and showered and finished packing and were ready to hit the heat by 11.00 and boy was it hot and made worse by having to wear our going home clothes.

We paid the bill and found a cool spot in reception to sit and wait for our transfer to the airport. As the reception area is all open they only have fans and no AC.

Our taxi arrived at 12.30 and off we went - so sad to go as we have had a lovely holiday.

The queue waiting to check in was soooo long but as Jon is a Koru Club member (Air NZ club) we can check in at the Business Class desk so we didn't have to wait long. They are all so slow checking in and if I had had to wait in that queue I would not have been impressed!

We went through security and got through to the only cafe they have there and ordered some food. The plane was delayed for 20 minutes as one of Pacific Blue flights had been cancelled and so Air NZ took on some of the passengers.

The plane was one of the big ones that flies to LA and has the new Premium Economy pods and Jon had managed to get us three of these when he booked our seats so we had a very comfortable flight back. I watched the end of The Help, which was very good, and I also watched the new Jane Eyre which I really enjoyed.

Our dinner was chicken in tomato sauce with lovely creamy mashed potato and a little cake for pudding and it was all really good and much better than the outward flight meal.

When we arrived in Auckland we told Jon to go through and get the cases while Heather and I went to Duty Free. I wanted to buy Jon a DS for Christmas and as Heather's camera had broken on our trip she bought a very nice camera.

When we went to immigration the man was so nice chatting to us about our holiday and he told me I can now use the NZ passenger line if it is shorter as I have full residency so I will remember that as sometimes the queues are very long.

By the time we got out Jon had got our cases and we went through and called the hotel shuttle to collect us which they did in 10 minutes so not too bad.

We got into our nicely cleaned car at the hotel and were on the road by 7.45.

The drive home seemed long and it got dark and started to rain a little. I never enjoy the ride back at night. We finally got to the house just after 10.00.

We got in and straight away I sorted out the washing and put a load on as we have people coming for a bbq tomorrow. The house is very quiet without Tot.

Nice to get into our own bed and not have the noise of the AC!!

Totty's birthday

I seem to have rushed around all day, sorting cleaning, washing and packing!!

I took Tot out and met a nice lady walking her dog and she was from Singapore and we had a nice chat, her dog is old, too.

I managed to get the parcels ready for the post for the girls stocking fillers.

I went out and had a coffee on my way to the supermarket. I went into one of the shops I used to go to often and saw a lovely dress and skirt and a tankini. I was trying them on and it suddenly struck me how strange it was to be trying summer clothes on and they were playing Christmas Carols!!

I then went to my old post office in Maungatapu and bought a box and packed it while I was there. It cost me over £40 in postage for the things I sent and I haven't finished yet. I think I might give up on cards again next year!!

When I got back it was gone 2.00 and Heather was waiting for her lunch and I had the bread!!! She had to go out and meet Jon to try the cocktail food they have ordered for the re launch of the pest division in January.

I spent the rest of the afternoon packing and sorting and making pizza for dinner.

Jon came home and we finally got things sorted and we had dinner and after dinner  took Tot out. She is not a happy dog as she has seen the suitcases and is sulking.

I wrote more cards this evening and will post them in Auckland tomorrow as Heather and Jon have to be at the port for work and so I will need to keep myself busy in Auckland. I might pop over to Devonport on the ferry if it is nice.

I will be glad when we are on the plane as I am so looking forward to doing nothing but read my books, drink cocktails and watch the sunsets - bliss.

So probably no more blog till we get back.

I think summer is here!

I was woken this morning by the sound of cats fighting outside!!

I got ready for swimming and tried to take Tot out but she could hear the lorry down the road which is working on the roadworks and she would not move and I tried pulling her but nothing so we went back in again!!

I went over to the Mount for my class and as it was such a lovely morning the class was really good. We went for coffee after the class and I invited the ladies in our little group to come here for our Christmas lunch so it will be 'bring a plate' and we will have it on 14 December.

I then went and took the camera to the shop as it has to be sent away for an assessment to see if it can be repaired if not the insurance will pay. Unfortunately, it is going to take 10 - 14 days and of course we will need it for our holiday on Saturday/ I had a word with Jon and hopefully we can borrow the company camera.

I then did a bit of Christmas shopping for stocking fillers for the girls as I would like to get them in the post before we go!!!

By the time I got back I just had time to make lunch and then Heather came in and we had to get to the salon for our nail appointment.

I am not ver happy with the way the girl did them and they are no where near as good as the first time. I don't like the girl, Bridget, she is from the UK and very pushy and always trying to sell you products and ask if you need appointments for treatment - we are not used to the hard sell here so I don't think we will go back there again.

We got back and then Heather went out to her class and I did the rest of my ironing so I am now up to date - phew.

I cooked dinner and finally managed to get Tot out for a walk.

I spent the evening wrapping stocking fillers and hopefully I can get them off tomorrow.

Lots of exercise today

Well I slept better than I thought I would last night as Jon was away in Auckland and it was my first night in this house. It did creak a lot but it was fine. I was up and just about to shower when I heard the front door and it was the courier bringing a birthday present for Heather from Sami.

I went out to my keep fit class with my big bag of lemons and we worked hard as I was sweating after the class which is good. I stayed for a coffee and a chat and dished out the lemons.

On my way home I stopped at Maungatapu post office to send Heather's phone back as it is broken and has been for months and she has only just got the letter sorted to send it off. I hope it gets back before she goes home. The postmaster told me the last date for posting to UK is 2 December so I had better get a move on as I haven't written a card yet.

When I got back I was going to dye my hair but I started doing a few things in the house, bathrooms etc, and just as I was about to go and do it the man came to fix the dryer so I had to wait. Hopefully, the dryer will work now and not just once!

I did my hair and then took Tot out to the park and met a Scottish lady, Mary, who was very nice and we chatted for a while. Her husband died 18 months ago and she says she has only just started going out again. She has lived in NZ for 50 years. Her son is a pilot for Air NZ and does the long haul flights and she has a daughter in Oz who is doing a masters degree but they are both single so no grandchildren so she is rather lonely.

I then had a late lunch and sat and read my book for a while and before I knew it Alison was at the door. It was nice to see her and she looks very well and has lost 2 stone but it is a very strict diet and not one I would like to do but it suits her. Bronwyn was doing a funeral and so came on a little later. They both liked the house and garden and we had a nice catch up.

As soon as they had left I rushed over to the Mount to meet Heather, Michelle, Lisa and Chloe to play beach volley ball!!! A bit of a joke as I have never played in my life. After a nervous start I did really well and scored points with my serve but I was not so good at getting it back over the net but compared to all the other players, who were all young, I did pretty well and, more importantly, I really enjoyed it. My torn muscle gave me a few problems and I will have to wait and see how much I ache tomorrow before I commit to another game!!

I got back and Jon was home and doing some gardening. I made dinner and then wanted to write my Christmas cards but thought I had better do the ironing and I did manage to get a lot done. It is the thought of starting it which I don't like but once I am into it I can get it done quite quickly.

Heather and I both have an appointment to have our finer and toe nails done tomorrow ready for our holiday. Excited now!!

A nice day with only me to please!

I could please myself today as I had nothing else to do that took me away from the house so I just had to do housework and washing and I really should have got more ironing done than I did, there is always tomorrow!!

I took Tot out to the park which was very nice and I did manage to get four loads of washing done - I just wish it was as easy to iron. I also managed to vacume everywhere.

I went to the Red Cross in the afternoon to look for some board shorts for Heather. She needs to try on what I bought but it is better than the $60 she wanted to spend. I popped into the library to re new our books and then went to the supermarket. I found they have a big selection of British things in for Christmas and for the first time I found bread sauce. I also topped up with wine and beer for the bbq the day after we get back

When I got back I really did get stuck into some ironing and watched Neighbours.

I made spaghetti sauce and ate mine as Heather was at the gym and came back late for hers.

We were just about to watch Ellen and Jane called so we didn't get to see it.

Jon is away in Auckland tonight so we are on our own in a creaky house!!

Santa Parade

We woke to the most beautiful day this morning. After all the terrible wind we have had and the forecast was for cloud, the sky was clear blue and NO wind!!

It was so calm Heather decided it would be good to go on the kayak so after I had dried my hair and she went off for a jog (and fell over in the park when her foot went down a hole) we were ready for our little outing. I was quite nervous as it was my first time but it all went well and I really enjoyed it. I then went for another trip with Jon but he is not so good at directions and when he is going to paddle twice on one side or the other!! But it was all good and I will be happy to do it again.

We did have a bit of a mishap as we were getting out as Heather tried to hold the kayak and as she did so the camera dropped into the water. She managed to scoop it up pretty fast but the damage was done and it now looks like we might need a new one. Jon needs to call the insurance people tomorrow. Not sure how that will go and it will be the first time we have made a claim over here so we will see.

After the kayak we had some yummy sausage baps before taking Tot out and then going over to the Mount. As it was the Santa Parade today it was particularly busy and finding a street to park in took a long time.

We went to the Swiss Chalet for a coffee and pastry and then went to find a good spot to watch the parade. The parade was bigger than last year and I really enjoyed it as I think it is all so strange to see Santa and snowmen in the sun, especially as hot as it was today!!

We then went shopping and did well. Jon found some shorts and a hat and while he was in the shop we went to look for a bikini for Heather. We were looking for Jon and popped into one shop and couldn't see him and so were walking to the next man's shop when the salesman came out of the shop and shouted after us 'Are you looking for a man?' It was so funny and two other ladies answered that they would have one if any to spare!! Jon was in the shop and trying shorts on!!

Jon bought some jandals (flip flops) and Heather bought some shoes and a bag and it was then time for lunch so we popped into a little bakery and all had a pie - chicken - beef - Thai chicken curry so we were all happy. We sat in the sun and got a little burnt.

We then went to a few more shops and I found my jandals and then we took Heather to the office as she had some work to do and Jon and I went to buy some pans. Out landlord wants to change the hob for an induction hob and so I needed to get some pans which I did at a knock down price of £35 for a 6 piece set.

Back home I made a cup of tea and then Jon went out to potter - I think he has missed pottering! I did some paperwork and then got stuck into my ironing but I still have a long way to go.

We had some lovely lamb backstrap cooked on the barbie for dinner with some salad things.

After dinner we did the dishes and I was just about to start my blog when we had a Skype call from Malcolm which was nice and we had a chat to discuss his holiday plans for here and the fact that flights to the south island are so expensive. He is quite happy to go along with whatever we organise for him so that is fine and I am sure he will enjoy it all.

And now it is time for bed as I have another busy week getting ready for our holiday on Friday - excited - YES!!!

Beautiful day sunny 26 degrees.

Book Sale Day!!

I was up very early and had breakfast, hung the washing out and was off out to the book sale at 7.30.

We had had a very noisy night last night due to the wind. At one stage I thought the house might take off like  Dorothy's house in the Wizard of Oz!!!

I arrived at the book rooms and people were already waiting. We got everything sorted inside and opened the doors and I did not look up again until 11.00!!! It was so busy. I went for a break and a cup of tea and then back to it. It was busy all morning. Heather came to help during the morning and still it went on. I went for lunch about 2.00 and then back to it till 4.00 when we told everyone we were closing and to come back tomorrow.
I got home to find that Jon had hired a power washer and had cleaned all the decks and paved areas and they all look very good.

We had a BBQ for dinner which was very good and I made a Kiwi pudding called Ambrosia - cream, yogurt, fruit and marshmallows all mixed together and really yummy.

Tried to call Malcolm to sort out his holiday but he was out, we will have to keep trying as we need to know what he wants to see.

Windy and sunny 23 degrees

Phew!!

Up early and ready for a busy day. I took Tot out and then got ready for the shop and all my things for the Christmas lunch.

I drove to the Red Cross where we had a busy morning and Les brought me a very nice box of macadamia nut chocolates from Oz - I love macadamia nuts.

I finished at 12.00 and changed to go to the Body and Soul Christmas lunch which was very nice. The speaker, a geriatric consultant from Tauranga Hospital came and sat on our table and she was very nice and I think was originally from UK. The meal was lovely and I really don't know how I am going to lose weight for our holiday if I continue to have so many lovely meals out.

After the lunch we, Viv, Margaret and I went into Tauranga and had a cup of tea. I left and went to collect my new cushions which had arrived. I also found a set of pans that are OK for an induction hob as the landlord seems set on having one fitted. They are on a special at the moment but are still £75 and in a way I think it is a bit of a cheek on his part to expect us to fork out for special pans when there is nothing wrong with the ceramic hob and I would prefer a new oven instead!!

Heather is out with the girls from the office tonight to celebrate her birthday and she is staying at Michelle's house so won't be back.

I then went to the book rooms and took the wine bottles they need for stands and also bought some books before going home. i would have liked to sit down but needed to feed Tot and then Jon came home and went out to cut the grass and I took Tot out and before I knew it, it was nearly 7.00 and time for fish and chips.

Jon went out to get them but we both agree that they are not as good as Mangutapu and so Jon thinks he will go back to Mangutapu for them next time as it will only be five minutes or so down the road.

We watched TV and I did some washing and hung some on the clothes dryer and have the rest ready to go out first thing in the morning.

I just hope I manage to get up early as I need to be at the book rooms by 7.30!!!! Yawn, yawn!!

Heather's Birthday

I got up and put Heather's cards and presents out on the table so that they would be there for her when she got up. I couldn't find the wrapping paper so had to wrap them in kitchen paper!!!

I was just pottering around the house when I heard a lorry outside and realised we had missed the binman - can't get used to the new day!! As I looked out I saw that the roadworks men had put a huge pipe across our drive and suddenly remembered the letter we had yesterday saying that we might have limited access to our drive!!! I quickly ran out and a huge digger was holding onto the end of a pipe that stretched for about 100 meters and he was slowly placing it along the edge of the pavement in front of every house. I asked the workman to wait until I got my car out and ran back in to get my keys and told Heather to move hers. 'I can't go out like this' she said 'I am still in my PJs' Well I said if you don't move it now it will be in till four o'clock. I ran out and had to drive all along the pavement till I could get off and had to park down the road. Just as I was walking back and the men had once again started to edge the pipe into place, Heather came out of the drive!! It was really funny as she was still in her PJ's but wearing a hoodie and her trainers!! When they said 9.00 I didn't think they would be quite so punctual.

We finally got ready and went to Maungatapu to pick up some books and we both needed to put petrol in our cars. I met the nanny from next door to our old house and had a chat. Heather then parked her car and we continued in my car to change some cushions I had bought and buy a lightweight duvet for her.

We then met Jon for lunch and it was very good. On the way back we stopped for a birthday cake and then I dropped Heather at her car and I went on to the book rooms.

I did a couple of hours there and then came home and sat and read my book with a cup of tea. Heather went to meet Emma from work and had her nails done.

I took Tot out and Jon came home and we got ready and went out to the Italian for dinner and it was really good.

We got back and had some birthday cake and then we all went to bed very tired.

First visitors to the house

I woke early and it must have been when Heather was leaving for the gym at 5.45!!!

I didn't get up till 6.45 though and managed to get two loads of washing out on the line before 8.00, took Tot out and got ready for my aqua aerobics class/

The pool was so warm this week just as it should have been last week when it was cold weather. I had had enough towards the end of the class as it was just too warm.

We went over for our usual coffee and it was nice to see Les back from Oz and Carol back. I had a lovely ice coffee and a long chat with the girls.

On my way home I went to take the recycling and then home to have lunch.

Viv, Margaret and Ros all came round in the afternoon for a cup of tea and they all liked the house. We were out in the garden and I heard a little voice calling 'Hello, hello'. It was the lady next door, Beryl, to tell me that Tot was in her garden. She must have chased the cat and got under the fence so I had to go and get her back. I think we will need to block it off somehow.

We had a nice chat and the girls left at about 3.30 and after clearing up and preparing a marinade for the tuna steaks I sat down and read my book and it was lovely.

In the evening Jon and Heather both came back from the gym and I cooked dinner. I brought the washing in and it took ages to fold it all. I tried the tumble dryer again this morning as I didn't have time to hang out the socks and knickers and it wouldn't work again!!! I have called the shop and they are going to get back to me. Just as well it isn't bad weather or I would have washing everywhere!!

Heather thinks she has no cards or presents for her birthday tomorrow but I have been hiding them. I just hope I remember where they all are!!

So looking forward to next Monday

I am so looking forward to next Monday morning when the book sale will be over, I have had enough of books for now!

I was up early and managed to get a batch of chocolate brownie cookie mix ready as it needs to stand in the fridge for four hours so i would be able to bake them when I got back from my class.

I took Tot out and the men are now busy digging lots of areas in the street for the pump house upgrade which is due to go on till the new year with a break over Christmas.

I went out to my class and it was lovely to see Ros back from the UK. Although we have kept in touch by email over the last six months it was nice to see her in person and congratulate her on her good news that she is to become a grandma in February and that she has sold her house in Angelsey and can now stay here permanently. She has a son and a daughter in Auckland and her pregnant daughter is due to move here in March 2013 which will be lovely for her.

We had a good class and all worked hard and earned our coffee after the class.

I went home and baked some cookies to take to the book room and then had a shower and washed my hair before having a quick sandwich and off to the book room and collected some books from a house on the way. I had to drive across the pavement to get out as they had a big digger outside.

I sorted more children's books out but couldn't stay long as I had my make up session.

The girl, Bridget, has been here nearly three years and was very nice and did a good job with the make up but made my brows too dark and thick. She said I should have them tinted but I don't think so. I bought some make up which cost a fortune so I had better use it and get practicing for the wedding.

A quick trip to the shop for some sausages for Heather and Jon and then home. I didn't have time to take Tot out, poor Tot.

I picked Helen and Jean up and I keep hoping they won't say they will drive as I really can't go with them as they frighten me to death. Not sure how I am going to get out of it but I can't go back to sharing lifts with them as it makes the meetings so stressful for me.

Dinner was OK but not as good as usual. We had a fish pie but the fish was a very 'fishy' fish. The pudding was lovely, chocolate cake with strawberries on top and a lovely fresh fruit salad.

We had a speaker talking about her charity which writes children's books called Books for Kiwi Kids and they aim to get lots of books into schools in Christchurch in the worst affected areas and we will no doubt give a donation.

I stood up to do my jokes and tried to read one out but it was so funny I kept laughing which made everyone else laugh even more - I haven't had a good laugh like that in a while!!

Got home and sorted out the recycling so it is ready to put in the car tomorrow morning on my way to swimming.

Monday

We were all up and doing our usual things this morning even though it was Heather's first day of working at home.

I took the sheets off the bed and had my washing out on the line before 9.00.

I then got stuck in to filling in all the forms to register all the new electrical equipment we have bought and it took ages but now it is sorted and all the instruction books are filled together. I then realised I had lots of vouchers to use and they needed to be used by this week. I had to book and Indian meal for tonight as the voucher ends today, a makeup session for tomorrow, book my Christmas cupcakes and finally book the meal at the Italian for Thursday for Heather's birthday. I really should keep better track of them.

I took Tot out and then made a sandwich and went over to the book rooms collecting some books on the way from a lady round the corner.
There were a lot of us at the rooms and we were kept busy sorting and pricing. I ended up at the end of the afternoon sorting out the better children's books to price as they now think all the others can be sold for 10, 20 and 50 cents but I think this might cause problems but we will have to wait till the day.

I got back and brought in the washing as it was windy and looked like rain. I ironed the sheets and put them on the bed again.

Jon came home and we all got ready and went out for our Indian which by Kiwi standards was very good. We have not had much success with Indians over here but tonight's was very good and the starter was exceptional.

We got home and had a small bowl of ice cream and watched a bit of TV. Very much ready for bed. We have so many things coming up and I ought to get them written down on the calendar so I have then clear in my head.

WEATHER
Sunny with some cloud and a blustery wind 19 degrees

Another lovely day

I was up far too early this morning considering I was up so late but I was wide awake.

We had breakfast on the deck which was very niceand then Jon did more gardening.

I made more lemon squares as Heather complained that I had taken them all over to Lions last time I made them.

Heather went to the gym and then to work for a few hours.

I had a good go at the housework as I will be out most of tomorrow.

Jon and I walked down the road for coffee with Tot. It isn't the best coffee in the world but it was OK.

We did more housework and gardening until lunch which we had on the deck.

Lisa and Chloe and Chloe's friend came over in the afternoon to play in the kayak. The park was much quieter today but the weather much warmer. Chloe and her friend had a great time and as kayak lessons are on the curriculum at school they knew what they were doing and didn't mind when they fell in, with a little help from Chloe rocking the boat! Glad it wasn't me as the water is not warm yet.

I sat in park with Tot chatting to them and it was really nice.

I made dinner while Jon and Heather went across to the office as Jon wanted to put all our cardboard in the tip and Heather wanted to clear her desk as she won't be working there now.

I managed to get all the washing I did today ironed so at least I have not added anything to the pile.

We watched some TV but my late night and early morning caught up with me and I fell asleep.

Gliding and Kayaks

Jon took Heather over collect her car and she went to the gym. We pottered about doing odds and ends in the house until it was time to go for an early coffee.

We went to Classic Flyers which is just near the airport where Jon was to have his lesson. Coffee as always there was very good. We then went to Tauranga Flyers and they were waiting for Jon and off he went. Heather arrived just as he was taking off. I thought he would be up for about 40 minutes but he was back down in 15. He really enjoyed it and can't wait to go again - nor can Heather.

We then went to buy a 'few more things' for the house before going to the Gourmet Food Shop where we bought some lovely things for lunch and a pudding called Ambrosia which is whipped cream, yoghurt, marshmallows and strawberries and it was sooooo good. I also got some nice Spanish chorizo.

We got back and had lunch and then Jon and Heather went out on the kayak and did pretty well for the first time even though it was windy, at least they didn't fall out!

Jon spent a lot of time working in the garden and it is starting to look much better.

We had a nice bbq this evening and drank far too much wine.

Red Cross Day

Jon was up very early this morning and so I was awake early, too. I took tot around the block and then set off to take some big plastic containers back to a lady who had donated lots of books to us and then I carried on to the shop and was early for once!!

Les is still in Oz so it was Sharon and I and a lady called Chrissie. We had a busy morning and I spent a lot of time sorting out the children's clothes again and so they all look good until tomorrow!!

After the shop I popped in to buy some orange juice for Jon and then went to the old house to take the duvet back. I left it at the door as she had told me she was going to the hospital as 'the baby arrives on Friday'. I assume she must mean her daughter who lives in Katikait is having another baby. I thought Kim might have been home but she was out, too so I left a book on the porch that I had found for Flynn. Fortunately, I checked the mail box and my 'Dish' magazine was in there so I collected that and came home.

It was now 2.00 and I was really hungry so had some lunch and then phoned Margaret for a chat as she had left a message yesterday. I tried to put some photos on Facebook but it was playing up and as I could put it off no longer I got the ironing board and iron out and got stuck into the ironing whilst watching Neighbours which I haven't seen for ages.

Heather and Jon went out after work for Heather's office leaving do even though she hasn't left altogether and will work from home and go in part time.

Jon came home and went out for out fish and chips. We had snapper tonight and it was very good but I didn't eat the batter as it looked very greasy.

Heather called to say she would be ready to be picked up at 9.00 so I went across to pick her up.

Such busy days!!!!

I was up and ready very early as the electrician said he would call at 7.30 to look at the sockets. He didn't actually arrive till after eight as he got caught in traffic.

Seems a nice man, Anton from S Africa, and said he could do the job and went off to get the right sockets. When he came back it took him about half an hour and they were all done. He was telling me they are a new company in this area and are called the Grey Army. They are all over 40 and some have had heart attacks and strokes, Anton has had two strokes but looks really well, and it is a way to get them all back into work. I thought it was very efficient as I only called yesterday and now they are finished! I have been trying to get a decorator and a carpenter into Centre Drive for months but they just don't call back yet they say there is mass unemployment in the UK!!!

While Anton was here I made some very nice lemon squares to take to the book room as the ladies were saying the other day that they were missing my offerings although we are never short of cakes for morning coffee or afternoon tea as all the ladies are good bakers. I went and picked the lemons from our tree and they are so big and juicy.
I went over to the book rooms and we were so busy but it is all looking pretty good. The photographer came from the newspaper to do a story and take some photos. We also borrowed more tables as we have run out of space. Only one more week and it will be over. However, I will miss the going over and chatting to the ladies but it has been pretty stressful these last few weeks with so many books coming in and having to change from one shop premises to another I thought we would never get on top of it but we have so all is good.
I went to the supermarket and when I arrived home the locksmith was here - oops I had forgotten he was coming. He said he had been here for 20 minutes. He fixed the lock but he did say it was very old and could do with replacing but I don't think we will bother as there are two locks on the door anyway.

I brought all my four loads of washing in and folded it. I think I will have to spend the whole of tomorrow afternoon ironing.

Jon and Heather came home and I cooked dinner and was more than ready for a sit down after dinner and catch up with Coronation Street.

WEATHER
A lovely sunny start to the day but clouded over late afternoon 21 degrees

A wet start to the day!!

I just had to wash my hair this morning even though I was going swimming as it looked a mess. I took Tot out for a walk around the block and then headed off to my class.

A lot of my usual friends were not there this morning and it was lucky for them as half way through the class we had a heavy shower and I was glad I wore my hat.
After the class i went with two other ladies for coffee before going on to the supermarket. I then went to the dressmaker to have some cropped trousers shortened (being short I need them shorter!) and also a dress I bought. The two items cost me very little at the Red Cross so with the alterations it is still cheap.

When I got back I walked Tot and had a quick lunch before going off to the book rooms. I always hate the thought of going but really enjoy it when I am there. I met a nice lady who has come along to help and we got on very well.

I had an email from Seleena to say thank you for leaving the house so 'wonderfully clean' which was nice of her. She also said she was missing  a duvet so I think we must have one extra in a box and will need to find it and get it back to her. She has signed the paper for the return of the bond.

Back home I fed Tot and then walked her along the beach and looked at the other houses that back onto the water - very nice!!

When I got back Heather had just got home and wanted to go out for a walk and by the time she got ready Jon was also home so we all went out for another walk much to Tot's confusion!! We headed off across the estuary and it was very muddy and we got stuck in mud and Tot was not happy so we turned back and went into the park and Heather had a play on the very nice new equipment.

When we got back we had to clean off our shoes (reef shoes are wonderful things) and we then went in and had dinner.

We discussed this house with Heather and she says she prefers the other house as it is more modern but Jon and I prefer this one and once we have it sorted I am sure Heather will agree.

WEATHER
Wet and cloudy first thing with showers and then lovely clear blue sky and 23 degrees

Things are getting sorted

We all seem to be sleeping better now, even Tot!!

I can't get used to Jon and Heather leaving that little bit earlier in the mornings and it has upset my routine a little. I too had to leave for my keep fit class earlier than usual as I did not know how long it would take. I managed to get round the block with the dog and as it is not bin day here on Tuesdays we managed it very well.

I left for my class and the traffic was not as bad as I had thought so arrived at my class 20 minutes early!!

It was really hot in the class and I was very sweaty at the end of it. I stayed for a coffee and then got changed and went to buy a few more things for the house, more cutlery as we only have a set of six and they soon get used up and put in the dishwasher. I also bought a few kitchen things but I think we are just about done now.

I got back by 12.00 as the man is due to come and fix the dryer. I made some phone calls to change our address which seemed to take ages. I made a sandwich and Tot and I went and sat in the garden which was lovely and - NO CAT!!! The water seems to be working!!

I carried on sorting out my clothes but I really need to get some ironing done but not sure when I will. the man came and fixed the dryer and had a look at the dishwasher. The door opens and drops down fast. He said one of the springs has broken and it will cost $123 to fix so we need to speak to the landlord as it was like that when we came in here.

I sat down at 5.00 and did my toe nails and finger nails. My hands have taken such a beating and all the nails are torn and very sore not to mention all the little cuts on my hands so I think I deserved the little treat. I have nearly finished my dressing room but have had a good clear out so lots of stuff to go to the Red Cross on Friday. It was too late to get to the book rooms but I really must go and give a hand tomorrow.

Jon came home after the gym and we had dinner. No word from Ross who was meeting at the old house with Seleena to check it and sign the bond paper so I presume it is all OK.

Goodby Te Hono Street

Jon and Heather left for work with Heather not looking forward to not being able to come home for lunch as it is just a bit too far now.

I took Tot out and then went over to Te Hono Street to finish cleaning, the biggest job being the fridge. Bronwyn had seen me arrive and phoned to invite me over for coffee late which was nice. I cleaned for an hour and then went across and she had made some really lovely carrot cakes - bang goes the diet!!

Back in the house I got on with cleaning. I wanted it to be so clean so there would be no complaints. I eventually finished and then went home and had lunch and did more unpacking and cooked a spaghetti sauce and a chilli.

I went back to meet the agent at 5.00 to handover the keys. I went to delete all the messages from the phone and saw it was flashing for a new message. It was from the agent to say she was a little late and to leave the key in the letterbox and she would collect it from there. I think she just didn't want to see me or Kim from next door after the for sale sign fiasco. I was so mad as I could have left the key in the box earlier and not had to make the second trip, she was also supposed to read the meter.

Got back and made the dinner and Jon and Heather came home. We had quite a storm rumbling around and as we have views in every direction it was really good to see not that Tot liked it much!

I took Tot out for a walk after dinner and it was so fresh and clean after the rain. It takes ten minutes to walk to the shops.

Looking forward to bed tonight. We are getting used to this house with all the creaking sounds. I am so glad one of my friends told me that Lockwood house creak or we might have thought it was falling down.

I managed to spray the cat today and he didn't like it and ran away, hopefully he will get the idea.

Saturday and Sunday move

Saturday and most of Sunday seemed to pass very quickly and all I can remember of it is packing, cleaning, packing, cleaning and then unpacking!!! I really don't know where all our stuff has come from over the last three years.

Jon left to go to the house as the Sky man was coming and I went over a bit later as the keys that I had made didn't fit and so I had to go back into Tauranga and get them redone which I did and he gave me a free one to go with them. When I got back they still don't work so we used some WD40 but still nothing. I think we will have to get a locksmith to look at the lock.

On my way back I bought some food for a bbq and once I was home Jon and Heather went out to actually buy a smaller bbq as ours is too big for this deck but will be fine for the garden.

I went downstairs to take Tot out for a wee and suddenly saw a cat running out of the snooker room and fortunately, the door into the garage was open and it went in there and I was able to press the electric door switch and it ran out but it must have come in through Heather's window first as I could smell 'cat' but don't know where it has sprayed.

We also have a problem with the cat from next door, Mr Bean! He is too friendly and when Tot runs as him he just rolls over on his back instead of running away. So far she has always been on the lead but it is going to make things difficult if I can't let her out. Jon bought me a spray bottle while he was out so hopefully!!!

The man delivered the kayak and lifted it up and carried it to the garage like a feather. Jon and Heather tried to lift it and it nearly killed them, I think we need some wheels now!!!

After putting the bbq together we enjoyed a late dinner!! We were so tired.

We had a really good sleep even Tot slept all night. She is very unsettled and follows me everywhere but I am sure she will be fine soon.

I cooked breakfast this morning and I should really have just gone straight over to Te Hono Street and started the cleaning as I had so much to do and had underestimated it. It took me ages to clean the garage and the side path where Tot used to do her toilet. Jon came over and took the rest of the things back and I finally manged to leave at 1.30.

We went over to see the ride on mower racing but only managed to see the last race but we did have a nice lunch there. It was a really hot day so it was just as well we were so late.

We stopped at a little place on the way back which sells real fruit ice cream and we had our with strawberries and she mixes it while you wait - yummy.

We are having problems plugging everything in as this house does not have many sockets. In fact, there are more in my larder than in the living room - I love my larder!! We will need to speak to an electrician as Heather is not happy having all her things plugged into a big adaptor even a safety one!!

I still haven't got my clothes sorted out and am running out of space.

We cooked a butterfly leg of lamb on the bbq for dinner and it was lovely.

I couldn't do my blog as where I sit on the computer is fine in daylight but at night I block the light out but I now have a little lamp. Another week and we will all feel more at home.
WEATHER
Lovely and sunny both days 24 degrees

Now I am Really looking forward to Saturday night!!

Up with the birds and Heather went off to work. Jon went across to the house to wait for deliveries. I packed up more things and eventually set off for the house with Totty. I thought I would pick up some coffee on the way but unfortunately, a group of 'very old people' arrived just ahead of me but, due to their indecision, I managed to get my coffee order in before ten of them!!! Still I had to wait and poor Tot was a bit hot by the time I got back to the car!!

I arrived at the house and the rest of the furniture had arrived and Jon was busy setting up the TV and surround sound - too many wires for me!! We enjoyed our coffee on the deck and then I left to go and get copies of the keys which seem to be difficult as they are a little curvy!!

I tried one shop and was referred to another. I went o buy some drawer shelves and clothes and shoe rails on the way plus a few other odds and ends!!

On the way back I went to the key cutter and he did the two keys. Unfortunately, once home we tried them and they don't fit so I will have to go back again tomorrow!!!

I bought some lunch and by the time I got back Jon was more than ready for lunch and we sat out on the deck and it was so nice.

After lunch I took Tot out for a walk along the beach which was lovely.

Later the men arrive with the white ware. Unfortunately, the tap for the washer leaks, bit time, so we had a flood and the lead for the fridge is too short so we need an extension and then when I tried the new dryer that didn't work either - I knew things were going too well!!

I took Tot out into the garden again and caught sight of Mr Bean, the cat from next door, just before she did and managed to grab her. He is fearless and likes dogs, I just hope Tot gets to like him!! I got her inside and he came up to the glass door and she was going mad barking at him but he was soooo cool and did not bat an eye!

Heather arrived and in the middle of chaos had a game of snooker with Jon!!!!!

We went home and Jon bought the fish and chips on the way and it was really good tonight.

Last night in this house and it is a little sad but I am really looking forward to living in the new house even though it is not modern and perfect.

WEATHER
Lovely sunny day 22 degrees

Thursday, 10 November 2011

I am looking forward to Saturday night!!

We had one really heavy shower this morning and it was just as I was about to take Tot out and didn't last for long but as Jane phoned just at that time Tot's walk was much later than it should have been! I noticed that the 'For Sale' sign had been taken down - again!!!

I had so much to do and had to start somewhere so started with the kitchen and bagged up 10 bags of food ready to take to the new house along with all the other bits and pieces. I really can't believe we have accumulated so much stuff!!

I arrived at the house and unpacked the food and started to organise my new larder but I think things are going to be moved around a lot before I am happy with it.

Just as I was leaving the maintenance man arrived to cut the grass and clean the oven!!!! Not sure they go together but we will see.

I got home and saw Sarah, the nanny from next door, and she told me that Linda, one of the other neighbours from the drive, had been coming in last night and saw Sue and Gary removing the sign and were quite shocked to see her as they were trying to hide whilst doing it. That sign has been up and down more than any other sign in Maungatapu! obviously the Principal must have told them to get it down after Kim had spoken to him. There is now a big sign for our neighbours house for sale. I cooked lunch for Jon and Heather. As Heather was playing netball this evening she had asked for a 'proper' lunch. Unfortunately, I had taken over the pasta and lots of other stuff to the new house so quickly had to cut and fry some new potatoes for her to go with the chicken I cooked last night.

After lunch I packed some cases with my clothes ready to take over. I had a call from Joan, a friend from when I first came here, just to say good luck with the move and she will call me next week.

I had a hospital appointment at 3.30 with the gastroenterologist for a check up and once that was done and all was OK I then went to have four, yes four!!! new tyres fitted on my car.

When I got back Jon arrived at the same time so we took more boxes over to the house but the oven had not been cleaned and we think it is because I used the two locks on the door and the agent only has one of the keys. I thought he would call this evening but nothing so far.

We did a bit more sorting and cleaning and believe it or not Jon found a wine cellar in the house. It is as the back of the snooker room and really dark until you find the light switch which he did this evening. Now all we have to do is fill it - there is space for 99 bottles!!

We got back home and had dinner and tried to watch some of the programmes we have on the Sky box!!

WEATHER
Another lovely day 20 degrees but with a bit of wind

Wednesday, 9 November 2011

Busy, busy

I took Tot out for a walk this morning and really had to rush as I was going to be late for my class as it was I seemed to get behind every SLOW driver and then the level crossing was down for a log train but I just managed to get through.

I arrived at the pool just on time for the start of the class which was really good and so nice to feel the sun on our backs.

We then went for a coffee but I didn't stay long as I needed to go to the supermarket and then to get some keys cut for the new house.

I got home and met Sarah, the nanny from next door. I had noticed the 'house for sale' sign back up in the drive and she told me that the agent had put a note in Kim and Brent's post box saying it had to stay there till  completion - 2 December!!! Sarah had texed Kim who was not impressed!

I cooked lunch and Jon came home with two of the operators and a pick up to take the BBQ and all the wood and anything else we wanted to go which was good as now we only have small things.

Jon went over to the house, Heather went back to work and I did the ironing!!! i took Tot over to the house with the intention of making up the bed but I forgot to take the clean sheets!!!

Totty was really funny at the house as the tide was coming in and the family who seem to be in the park every day were there with their dogs who were running into the water after a ball. Totty was so excited and it was just as well she was on the lead or I am sure she would have jumped down onto the beach and been off after the dogs but as I don't know the dogs I am not sure how they will take to this old lady dog. I think I am going to have to go and speak to the man who owns them.

Jon had been busy cleaning the garage and I did a bit more putting away of things. Hopefully the rest of the furniture and white goods will arrive on Friday along with the feet for Heather's bed.

Totty finally settled down and was fine in the house and enjoyed another walk around the garden and was much quieter without the other dogs barking. I was glad to see she was fine on the deck and didn't try to get off it!! She also met next doors car, Mr Bean, who was not afraid of her at all so this could be interesting!

I got back and saw Kim and she told me that she had phoned  the agents and spoke to the manager and told them what she thought of them and the sign. He has told her she can put up her sign and they will take theirs down. I think the agent is going to hate us and will be happy to see us go.

I cooked dinner and then tried unsuccessfully to buy birthday presents for my sisters online. Heather said she had sorted it but the website still won't let me do it and I am getting very angry!!! I will try again in the morning when I am not tired!!!

WEATHER
Some cloud but warm 22 degrees

Tired!!!

I went to my keep fit class this morning and didn't take Tot out as it was bin day and it is more trouble than it is worth!!

I stayed for a quick cuppa and then went over to Welcome Bay to wait for the furniture to arrive. i did a bit of cleaning but the view is very distracting!!!

I had a phone call to say the furniture was in Maungatapu!!! I told them the correct address and they were here very quickly. It took a long time to get all the furniture into the house with one of the men banging into the dinning room light ouch!!!! Eventually it was all in but instead of a complete single bed they had brought two mattresses so will have to come back on Friday.

I went home and arrived just as Heather was having lunch - Jon was in a meeting. I had a sandwich and once she had gone back I did my ironing and watched Downton Abbey (I did take Tot out in between all of this)

The builder arrived to finish painting the wall and then Jon came home and we got our things together and went over to the house.

They had mixed up the beds and given us the cheaper one so we had to change it with Heather's It is all looking very nice now and I just have to decide which colour I should pick out to add some brightness - blue or gold???

Got home and made the dinner and I really should go to bed now as I am so tired and sooooo looking forward to sitting in our house and reading my book- bliss!!

WEATHER
Not as warm as the forecast but sunny 19 degrees

Monday, 7 November 2011

A really beautiful day

What a lovely day, a bit chilly to start then wall to wall sunshine.

I managed to get three loads of washing done and hung out. I took Tot for a walk and intended to go to the park but I met a lady I know and chatted to her for ages and then saw Tricia in her garden and I haven't seen her since she went to the UK so we chatted. I refused a coffee saying I had a lot to do and I could have gone in as we chatted for ages too. so poor Tot only got a walk around the block in the end but at least she was out and seemed happy.

I then went to buy some bits and pieces for the house and to the supermarket for a few things before going home and getting lunch for Jon and Heather.

After lunch I went across to the house and did some cleaning. On the whole the house is clean but it is things like the window frames which are really dirty due to condensation which looks like it has never been removed and as the window frames are brown it is difficult to see.

I manged to get the two upstairs bedrooms finished and the en suite and then did the stairs and landing before stopping to make a cup of tea and I sat on the deck. It is so beautiful there and I can't wait to move in. There were people in the park and as the tide was coming in the dogs were running and playing in the water. I am not sure what Tot's reaction to all the barking is going to be, we might have to put some chicken wire around the base of the deck as I am not sure if she will fall through.

Jon arrive later and had bought a small step ladder as we can't get up to clean the lights. Heather came over after work to see how things were going and then she went home to feed Tot and make our dinner which was one less thing to think about.

We got back and I had to bring in the washing but it was nice to sit down to dinner already cooked.

Sunny and 22 degrees

So we bought a kayak

I am sleeping better but Jon is still not having a good sleep and so was up early again.

Jon went off to the shops to buy a tool box and Heather went off to the gym and I took tot out for a walk.

The builder finally arrived at 10.30 and I left him to it. Jon arrived back and we were waiting to go out for coffee and then the builder left without saying a word so we went out. We did notice that he had left his cleaner here and his bucket so imagined that he would be back but didn't know when.

We had a coffee and then went across to the boat show which was being held in The Strand. After a wander around we spotted the kayak stand and went to have a look. There was a very nice young man there and he told us lots about kayaks and we told him we knew nothing but that we were now living in a house near the water and what did he recommend. We finally bought a two seater with back rests, paddle and life jackets at a very good show price and he is going to deliver it to us next Saturday at no extra cost - good service! We are all quite excited about it.

We then went and had a look at some luxury boats and went on them, very plush and a lot of money, we'll stick with the kayak!

We then took Heather to the office as she wanted to do some work so Jon and I went to the DIY store to buy a few things that we needed.

After picking Heather up we stopped at the bread shop and then went home. Our neighbours told us that the builder had been back and trying to get in - tough. Maybe next time he will speak to people and let them know what his plans are!

After lunch Jon and I went across to the house and did some cleaning. The house is not actually dirty but it does need a freshen up and to get rid of the cobwebs. By the time we had finished we had achieved a lot and it was looking and smelling more like our house.

We ordered a takeaway from the new Indian down the road. It wasn't bad but not like English Indians!!!

I spent ages trying to get this Shellac nail varnish off tonight. It is all more or less gone now but my nails feel a bit rough.

Still lots to do but I have a week to sort everything so hopefully this time next week we will be settled!!

WEATHER
Warm with a few light showers 20 degrees

Bonfire Night!!!

We were all up early as we had a lot to do. Heather went to the gym and Jon started to take things over to the new house. I took Tot out and then waited for the builder who turned up at 10.15. I left him to it and was packing boxes and he said he had finished and would I like to check it. I told him I was sure it would be fine and as it was not my house there was no point in me looking. I felt bad afterwards as he was a nice lad. Well the plaster is now finished and it doesn't look that good but I will leave that for Seleena to sort out.

Jon and Heather came home and Jon and I went out for coffee and Heather stayed home. We went to collect the vacuum cleaner I bought the other day as I think I might need it before Friday. We also went to look at more furniture and finally decided on the TV table and coffee table, hall table and lamp table so we are there now than goodness.

We got home and had lunch and Jon went back to the house and Heather and I went to take the kettle back as I had bought another by mistake. I got a credit for it and used it on two mirrors and some sheets.

We went to the supermarket on the way back and bought some jam donuts and then stopped at what will be our new local coffee bar and bought two cups of tea and then went to the house and Jon was very glad of the tea.

Jon had been putting together the deck furniture and so we sat out on the deck looking across the estuary and down to the park where people were out on kayaks and it was just beautiful and I can't wait to move in. Heather and I went out into the garden and met next doors cat which is lovely and very playful though not sure what Tot will make of him/her?? The tide was in and I was surprised how high it comes. I will have to watch Tot in case she falls in as she won't be able to get out unless she swims along to the park where there is a boat ramp. I really don't think she will fall in though.

We got back and had an early dinner and then went over to the stock car racing. It was a good night but VERY cold and I wished I had taken a blanket. We got back and had a nice warm drink and now I am off to bed before I drop.

WEATHER
Warm and sunny 20 degrees
