I feel for the many typical Kiwis or on their usual camping holiday at this time of year. All the campsites are a washout and concerts and festivals have been cancelled such a shame. We have never seen so much rain at this time of year since we have been here. The forecast is 'it will get better by Tuesday' - fingers crossed.
On my way to work this morning it was so wet and misty I could not even see across the causeway bridge but was told there were lots of tents blown over in the campsite, I am glad we are in our creaky house and it is certainly that at the moment.
I arrived at work very wet and the shop was unusually quiet so Les, Sharon and I had a good catch up over a cup of green tea which I now really enjoy.
We unpacked some boxes of ladies tops and dresses and I found a really lovely dress which, after trying on I bought for all of $12 - £6 and it is beautiful and so feminine.
Les had brought some lovely cake in that had been given to her son in law and as he does not like fruit cake he gave it to her. It is so moist and more like a Christmas pudding and went down very well with our coffee. Fortunately, due to the bad weather, I was able to cross the road without waiting for the traffic as there was none so made it over and back for the coffee in a couple of minutes.
The shop became very busy later on as people had nothing else to do and the takings will have been quite high I should think.
I left at 1.00 and went off to do a bit of shopping before going home to have lunch. I watched a bit of TV and then sent more emails and I think I have just about finished them now.
Jon and Heather came home and Jon later went over to Maungatapu for our fish and chips but called me to say they only had frozen fish so after his beer in the pub he came all the way back and bought them at the local shop and the fish was much better than the first time we had it from them so maybe we will give them another go.
I saw on the news this evening that the driver of the car in which two young girls were killed just up the road from here on Christmas Day has been charged with manslaughter and two other people have been arrested as it appears they were racing and drunk and the two girls did not have seat belts on. So sad for this to happen. They were all Maori and I am not saying they are all the same but they do seem to behave in a stupid way as far as driving is concerned, drink too much and don't wear seat belts - such a waste.
