We all got up early today and were out in the sun by 8.00 and it was so hot. Heather and I went for a swim as it was too hot sitting by the pool. So sad it is our last day. The sea was calm too and we could have had our boat trip across to the island but we didn't have enough time.
At 9.30 we went in to have breakfast. Jon had the full buffet and I had my usual toast and honey and finally got a good, strong pot of tea!!!
We got back to our room and showered and finished packing and were ready to hit the heat by 11.00 and boy was it hot and made worse by having to wear our going home clothes.
We paid the bill and found a cool spot in reception to sit and wait for our transfer to the airport. As the reception area is all open they only have fans and no AC.
Our taxi arrived at 12.30 and off we went - so sad to go as we have had a lovely holiday.
The queue waiting to check in was soooo long but as Jon is a Koru Club member (Air NZ club) we can check in at the Business Class desk so we didn't have to wait long. They are all so slow checking in and if I had had to wait in that queue I would not have been impressed!
We went through security and got through to the only cafe they have there and ordered some food. The plane was delayed for 20 minutes as one of Pacific Blue flights had been cancelled and so Air NZ took on some of the passengers.
The plane was one of the big ones that flies to LA and has the new Premium Economy pods and Jon had managed to get us three of these when he booked our seats so we had a very comfortable flight back. I watched the end of The Help, which was very good, and I also watched the new Jane Eyre which I really enjoyed.
Our dinner was chicken in tomato sauce with lovely creamy mashed potato and a little cake for pudding and it was all really good and much better than the outward flight meal.
When we arrived in Auckland we told Jon to go through and get the cases while Heather and I went to Duty Free. I wanted to buy Jon a DS for Christmas and as Heather's camera had broken on our trip she bought a very nice camera.
When we went to immigration the man was so nice chatting to us about our holiday and he told me I can now use the NZ passenger line if it is shorter as I have full residency so I will remember that as sometimes the queues are very long.
By the time we got out Jon had got our cases and we went through and called the hotel shuttle to collect us which they did in 10 minutes so not too bad.
We got into our nicely cleaned car at the hotel and were on the road by 7.45.
The drive home seemed long and it got dark and started to rain a little. I never enjoy the ride back at night. We finally got to the house just after 10.00.
We got in and straight away I sorted out the washing and put a load on as we have people coming for a bbq tomorrow. The house is very quiet without Tot.
Nice to get into our own bed and not have the noise of the AC!!
