A new niece
Long phone call with Heather and Kirsty which was really nice to catch up.
While Jon was talking to the girls I saw on FB that Louise had baby Erin, tough time for her and 10 days late but she is here safe and well now which is the important thing.
Bronwyn invited us for lunchtime drinks tomorrow which will be nice.
It was late by the time we finally got out for a walk with Totty but it was very nice.
We then went for coffee up to Gate Pa and had a yummy muffin.
Did a bit of shopping and found a new stand for laptop which should stop me getting a pain in the neck.
We finally had the ohotos for frame printed so I now need to get them put in the frame - our first year in NZ.
Finally got home for a late lunch before Jon went off to the gym and I did my ironing which was long overdue.
Took Totty for a walk when Jon got back and had showered.
Came back and had a cup of tea and a scone.
Had dinner which was not one of my better efforts, in fact, it was awful.
I fell asleep again!!!! must stop it as when I get to bed I can't sleep.
WEATHER
Colder this morning as no sun, better later 14 degrees

Seats booked
Red Cross was hard work and my ribs hurt a lot when trying to put clothes on racks. Bianca bought coffee today and had brought thermos mugs for her and her mum as she does not like the cardboard cups. she wanted me to have one but I don't like them. I found a nice necklace in pink to go with my outfit, I will check it matches and if it does pay for it next week. I also bought a nice top in a pale green
Got back in time to make lunch. Bronwyn called to thank me for her birthday card and invited me over for a cuppa and a chat.
Got back and took Totty out for her walk.
Jon brought a plan of the planes we will fly home/back on and we chose our seats. We are right up in the nose for one leg and upstairs on another so, it is all done now.
We had fish and chips and the portion of chips was far too big so we had to put lots down the muncher.
I fell asleep again so didn't see much TV.
WEATHER
Cold start but clear blue skies 14 degrees

Last physio
I then went along to physio and as my ribs were sore he just worked on my neck area. He said to keep up with the exercises to strengthen my shoulders and if I have any twinges to make an appointment.
I decided to go into Tauranga shopping and I needed to go to the post office.
I went to Sunrise cafe and sat outside in the street and it was really hot, I had a coffee and a muffin. I then had a look around the shops and found some lovely grey shoes reduced from $225 to $50 and they are so comfy. I then went looking for black trousers to wear with my new jacket and I found some very nice grey ones. They needed shortening so I need to go and pick them up next week - still no black ones though!!
I then went to do my supermarket shop but only bought a few things as I couldn't carry much, if we need more we can go at the weekend.
Got home in time for lunch and then just pottered about doing this and that.
I took Totty for a walk and met Alison walking home from school so walked back with her. Her granddaughter, who has just started school, has not been well and finally they have diagnosed scarlet fever. She will be off for at least another week, poor little girls, you don't hear about scarlet fever much these days.
At 5.30 I started the Cancer Lodge phoning. this is when all the Lions members were to phone part of the phone book and ask for donations. I wasn't looking forward to doing it but as it happens it was not so bad. I only got 3/4 down my first column in the phone book and got 10 people to donate and one will send a cheque. They had to dial 0900 Lions and a $20 donation would be added to their phone bill. I had three people who were not very nice but you always get some.
We had the steak and onion sausages for dinner and they were OK but not brilliant, just as well we only have another four to eat!
WEATHER
Bright and sunny but cold in the shade 15 degrees

No swimming today
I manged to get out for a short walk with Tot but every step was painful.
I went down to the Mount for coffee with Les and we sat outside as it was so warm and had our usual chat. I popped into the supermarket for some fish on the way home.
Just sat and watched TV all afternoon and then took Totty out for a walk.
Made dinner and then watched TV my ribs are very sore. I can't believe such a silly thing can cause so much pain!
WEATHER
Clear blue sky and 15 degrees

A disagreement with a shopping trolley
I helped Diane take the things out to the car and had a chat with her about this and that and she told me she was going for a bone density scan as she had a scare about osteoporosis and needed to have things checked.
After our chat I went to do a bit of shopping at the supermarket. I had just finished and checked my list and was putting it and my glasses away as I walked down the aisle and suddenly I crashed into pillar - the only one in the supermarket!! Oh boy did it hurt and knocked the wind out of me and hurt my ribs. I felt really ill but managed to get through the check out and home.
I put the shopping away and as I had not taken Totty for a walk I took her down to Rotary park in car and we had a walk around. There were about eight cars there with people just sitting looking at the view and having lunch.
Jon came home and we had lunch before I had to go out to the doctor for a smear. I told the nurse what I had done as it was difficult to get up on the bed, and she said it sounds like I have cracked my ribs. Not much point in having an x-ray
I came back and watched TV the pain in my ribs getting worse by the minute.
I couldn't take Totty out as it was raining, fortunately!
I prepared the dinner for Jon as I had Lions.
I managed to get ready and out but getting into the car is very painful. I picked Janice up and she has a sore leg and could hardly get into the car either, what a pair!!!
The meeting was good and the dinner the usual dinner but with cheesecake for pudding, yummy.
The District Governor was the speaker and was OK!
I won a raffle prize - a collection of handmade fruit soaps, which was much better than the car sun shades I won last time!
I didn't realise it was so early when I got home till Jon said why are you so early - it was only 9.15!!!
My ribs are now very sore and swimming is definitely off tomorrow!
WEATHER
Really cold last night with rain, a few showers today and light wind 12 degrees

A chilly day
I had to put the hair colour on my hair. I hate doing it but it has to be done and once I get started it really doesn't take that long and looks so much better.
I then spent the rest of the morning doing housework.
Jon came home and we had lunch and then I spent the rest of the afternoon doing the ironing.
We had dinner and watched TV and then went to bed.
WEATHER
Very cold this morning but sunny later but still a cold wind. 12 degrees

A lovely walk on the Mount
We drove to Mount and thought we would have a coffee there and then walk around it but it was such a lovely day we could not park so went coffee in town. We had a nice coffee sitting in the sun but the muffin was not so good. We then went shopping and I tried on the top I saw yesterday and as it was a good match bought it. It is merino wool but very fine and is a pink colour and goes really well. Jon is very relieved as we can stop looking now!
We finally managed to find a parking space near the Mount and set off on our walk around. It takes about 45 minutes and as it was such a lovely day there were lots of people, walking, jogging and families just enjoying the sun. We walked onto one of the little beaches at the base and were surprised to see that it was made of crushed shells, we had never noticed before.
As our muffin was not nice we were more than ready for lunch so went home very tired.
I had a lot of Lions paperwork to do and I needed to get an email ready to send out to all the ladies so spent the afternoon doing that.
Jon chopped wood as the pile is going down quite fast. Fortunately his back was OK when he had finished.
Took Tot out for her afternoon walk and then came back and cooked a roast dinner and had a lovely chocolate fondant pudding to finish - naughty but nice!
We watched TV and of course I fell asleep!
WEATHER
Clear blue sky 16 degrees
Saturday, 24 July 2010
A very quiet Saturday - for us.
We were late getting Totty out for her walk but when we got to Rotary Park it was so nice down there, the water was like a mirror, so calm.
We went for coffee down to the Mount and had a look around the shops and I bought a little top for my friends new grandson - all Blacks of course!!! I saw top that could possibly be a match for my jacket but I will need to check colour so may go back tomorrow with the jacket to check.
We needed a few things from the supermarket so popped in there and bought some smoked chicken for lunch to try. We got home and I made sandwiches and cooked the chicken for lunch, it was OK but i wouldn't buy it again.
Jon went to the gym after lunch and I watched TV and read my book. When he got back we took Totty for a walk and then came home and had a cup of tea and a piece of cake, no wonder I am putting weight on, that is winter for you!
I cooked dinner - Thai and it was very good.
WEATHER
Chilly first thing then sunny spells and a warm 16 degrees.

My bunion hurts
The shop was very busy and we had lots of clothes to put out. By the end of the morning my bunion was really hurting and I was glad to finish and get home to take my shoes off.
Jon came home for lunch and then in the afternoon I read my book as my foot was really sore but I still had to take Totty out as she won't let me rest till I do!
We had fish and chips and it was very good - again!
WEATHER
Very wet first thing then occasional showers. 15 degrees
Thursday, 22 July 2010
A very wet day.
Went to the supermarket and did my shopping and then went for a coffee before going home.
I can't remember what else I did and didn't make any notes so this is a no news day!
WEATHER
After a lot of heavy rain overnight, wet this morning but dry after lunch 14 degrees

Another keep fit class
As the swimming pool was closed for maintenance Les and I decided to go to keep fit at Otumotai, local for Les as that is where she is now living. It is the same teacher that I go to on Tuesdays but across the other side of town. It was a smaller class but the ladies were just as friendly and Les and I enjoyed the class. We went to RSVP in Cherrywood, just down the road, for a coffee and a muffin. It is a lovely cafe, I took Heather there when she was here last year and the muffin is served with a dish of cream and a dish of fruit pure and it is sooo good.
After a long chat I headed home and cleaned the bathrooms. Jon came home for lunch and was in a lot of pain with a bad back. He has no idea what he has done, could be all the wood chopping at the weekend!! I gave him some Nurofen and he went back to work.
As it was a bit cold I lit the fire earlier than usual and then watched Dancing on Ice which I love.
I cooked some nice fish for dinner and cauliflower pure, very good
We watched TV and then went to bed.
WEATHER
Very cold but bright all day then light rain in the evening followed by heavy rain 14 degrees
Tuesday, 20 July 2010
Keep fit
When I got back there was a phone message from Heather to say her first day had gone well and she had doubled her target sales.
Had lunch and did a bit of housework. I went to visit to Janice to sort areas out for delivery of the flyers for Lions book sale. I think we have it sorted, I just hope all the ladies will be happy with it.
Took Tot for her walk.
I started to cook a shepherds pie and then realised I had no onion so i had to call Alison to ask if I could borrow one. Fortunately, she had one so I went over for it. I saw in her garden that she has a pointsetta growing and it looks really healthy and it it outside all the time - amazing and it had all the red leaves on it!!!
Jon arrived home and told me he had a job to find a place to eat last night in Napier as they were all closed, even the hotel restaurant, he went to a pub chain but it was not the best dinner. When her got back to the hotel at 8.30 it was ll shut up, even the bar so he had to go straight to bed!!! He did help himself to a glass of port from the decanter at the top of the stairs that the receptionist had told him about when he checked in then went to his room to watch TV - Kiwis don't like late nights!
We watched TV and then went to bed.
WEATHER
Cloudy with sunny spells 15 degrees

Housework
Went to physio, my neck feels better and I am doing the exercises he gives me.
Jon is driving to Napier today so I am glad the weather is fine as it is a four hour drive.
Did my housework.
Had boiled egg for lunch, one of the fresh ones from Mark.
Managed to get all the washing done and dried on the line.
Took Totty for a walk then came back and did the ironing.
Jon called from Napier to say he arrived and was off to a meeting.
I had some lamb leftover from yesterday for my dinner, watched the TV and then went to bed.
WEATHER
Warm and sunny again 14 degrees
Sunday, 18 July 2010
Another lovely day.
We then went for a walk with Tot and it was a beautiful day, really warm and no wind down by the water in the park.
We went over to Papamoa garden centre for coffee. Alison told me about this one and it was the first time we had been there. It was lovely and there were lots of people sitting outside as it was so warm. We then had a look around and they had lots of citrus trees for sale and all had lots of fruit on them. They also had two lovely olive trees trained along the back fence and shaped like Christmas trees. Inside they had a shop which sold jewellery, china, clothes, ornaments and lots of other things a really nice shop to look around.
We then drove down to Spring Loaded on the other side of Te Puke. They have speed boat rides from here and I wanted to check it out for when Kirsty and James come over as I think they will like it but there wasn't much to see.
We got back for lunch and then Jon went to the gym and I sat on the deck and it was really hot and I had to go and change into something lighter.
I quickly made some scones for tea as we had no cake. Not sure if it was because I rushed them or not but they were the best scones I have ever made! After a quick walk with Totty we had a cup of tea.
I cooked roast lamb for dinner - I love roast lamb!
As there was nothing much on TV we watched The Changeling a film we had recorded and it was very good.
WEATHER
Hot and sunny 22 degrees on our deck in the shade.

Toy Story 3
We then went to Central Shopping area for coffee and they do lovely walnut muffins there so we shared one of those - yummy.
Jon has been using towels that we brought over with us and they were originally bought on a visit to Liverpool when I took the girls a very long time ago and they were looking in need of replacing so we went to Briscoe's as they always have a sale on! We bought some very nice Egyptian cotton towels in navy blue and then we bought a new frying pan as I have been using the wok and the surface is a bit small when I am cooking fish fillets. We also bought a nice cushion for Jon's back.
We then drove across to Bayfair to the butcher. They had a demonstration on and were cooking steak and onion sausages and bacon. We tried both and bought some of both. I haven't found a sausage here that I like. they are packed too tightly in the skins which are really tough and the meat is too minced up. These tasted nice but we will see what they are like when I cook them. I also bought a piece of lamb for tomorrow.
We got home for lunch and I made omelette and salad.
I read my book and Jon went to the gym we took Totty out for a walk when he got back and then had a cup of tea before going out to the cinema.
Toy Story 3 was really good. It was in 3D but as I don't see 3D the glasses made my eyes a bit funny so I just had to watch without them. The 3D bits are a bit fuzzy but it was OK. I loved the film but it made me cry.
We then went out to an Italian restaurant for dinner and had antipasto to share and it was so good - olives, artichokes, sun dried tomatoes and two types of Italian sausage and warm bread, then I had fish and Jon had veal casserole. I have had better fish but it was OK. The pudding was lovely, a cup of thick hot chocolate and churros (long doughnut type things with sugar and cinnamon on, you dip them in the chocolate, they are Spanish and I haven't had them since I lived in Spain, millions of calories!!!)
WEATHER
After a lot of overnight rain it was dry and sunny/cloudy

The Family Tree
Came home and had lunch and then Alison came over to help me get the family tree started. She has traced both hers and Doug's and has found out so much. It was really interesting how you trace back and I can't wait to get started but need to get some dates and full names of my grandparents from my sisters.
By the time we had finished it was getting dark and was pouring with rain so no afternoon walk for Totty.
Jon came home and we had our fish and chips.
WEATHER
Cooler this morning with heavy rain this afternoon.
Thursday, 15 July 2010
Just like summer
I then did my supermarket shop and as Jon was at a meeting went out for lunch with Alison. We went over to the garden centre at Papamoa and I had a nice bowl of soup. After lunch we decided to go for a walk on the beach as it was such a lovely day. We walked for over an hour and I was shattered. We sat in the sun for a while and I got quite rosy,
We then went to Jon's boss' orchard to pick kiwi fruit, Mark had told me I could go and pick fruit whenever I wanted. I did very well and found the orchard with no problem and to begin with it looked like there weren't many fruit left but once we got under the vines we could see there where lots. In no time at all we had a bucket full each. All the leaves are off the plants now and in another few weeks the men will come in and do the pruning and remove any left over fruit.
We saw Mark on our way out, he had just slaughtered two sheep!!!! He took us over to the chicken coop lifted the lid and gave us some lovely fresh eggs. All in all a very nice day but I was tired when I got home and had to force myself out again with Totty.
I made a very nice curry for dinner and discovered that poppadoms cook very well in the microwave!
WEATHER
Beautiful hot sunny day 18 degrees

A cool swim
I then went over to the Mount for my class, I manage to get there so fast when the children are off school, it makes a big difference to the traffic. Had a good swim but the water could do with being a bit warmer these days.
Les and I went for coffee and our usual chat and then I went shopping for Baby Wash. I bought a nice little All Blacks bodysuit and a little jacket, I hope they like them.
Got back in time for lunch, just, Jon arrived more or less at the same time.
I was just taking the dog out and walking down the drive and saw Bronwyn and shouted hello to her but she ignored me. When I got down to the end of the drive I could see why. There were tow cars smashed into each other and she had gone to help. There were a few people around and somebody had called 111 so i walked the other way with the dog, I didn't want to get too close.
I found out later it had been a man backing into his drive and a car had come along and smashed into him. How he didn't see him I don't know, it was bright and sunny and a straight road. It was a young lad in his dad's car with three others. He had not long passed his test and so should not have had passengers with him. The other driver was OK but the boy was obviously speeding and the police say he will be done for dangerous driving. That is two accidents in the last few weeks with young boys along here, such a quiet street, too.
WEATHER
Fine and sunny 14 degrees

Back to a new Lions year!
I posted the photo album to my friend for her grandson, it is called Grandma's Brag Book which I thought was sweet.
I was back to Lions tonight. It is the start of the new year and our first business meeting with our new president. I was a bit disappointed when I picked Janice up to find out that I am on the Fundraising Committee again this year. We arrived at the meeting and I had a chat to everyone and they were asking about our holiday and seeing the girls which was nice. After the initial part of the meeting we split into our various committees to discuss what we are going to do. I managed to land the job of sorting out the delivery of flyers for out book sale in December. I need to split the town into area and allocate members to deliver the flyers. Should be fun as I am not sure of all the areas and where people live!
As Jon was away last night I hadn't seen him before I left as he wasn't home but he had got home safely and was in when I got back.
WEATHER
Beautiful sunny day 14 degrees

Well done Spain
Took Totty out after the match and then came back and did my housework before going for another session with my physio.
The weather is so nice, I can't believe this winter, shame it wasn't like this last winter.

Had some nice beef for dinner but very filling.

A Shopping Day in Hamilton
We set off and it was a lovely drive over the Kaimai hills, so clear and lovely views. We stopped for a coffee near Lake Karapiro but it was so cold in the restaurant we drank our coffee and left and it was warmer outside. We went down to the lake to have a look at the progress on the new stand for the world rowing championships in October but without crossing over the dam to the other side we couldn't see much so we will go over on another day.
We arrived in Hamilton and parked in the multi storey which cost an arm and a leg but that is big cities for you. We went from one shop to another looking for the right colour top but it was very hard. All the shops have sales on and there are some good deals around. With no luck it was getting late so we went to have lunch at a place we went to when Heather was here. They do a really good garlic and chilli spaghetti. However, today they were a bit heavy handed with the chilli and I couldn't finish it all but it was good.
Back to the shops and we went into the same boutique chain where I had bought the jacket and the ladies were very helpful and brought me lots of things to try and I eventually settled on a lovely pink merino wool top. I have never paid so much for a top before and I am not sure it is the right one but it was half price so a really good deal and even if I don't wear it with the jacket I will wear it.
Jon finally manged to find a long sleeved pullover which he will need when we go to UK. And that was all we bought. The silly thing is we could have bought both in Tauranga as we have both the shops here!! Never mind it was a nice day and we got back in time to take Totty out for her afternoon walk.
WEATHER
A bueutiful clear, sunny day, 14 degrees here but only 6 degrees in Hamilton.
Friday, 9 July 2010
Some very expensive food.
I took Totty out for a quick walk as I had Red Cross today. We had a busy morning in the shop with lots of stock coming in.
Jon was not home for lunch so I popped up to the Gourmet Trader shop as I needed some glace fruit for a recipe I wanted to make. I bought cherries at the supermarket but I needed some other varieties but all I found were pears, not going to be much of a pudding! I did manage to find a tin of chestnuts and was so pleased as I needed them for a recipe. I didn't look at the price and when I got to the checkout and she added up my bill I thought that was a lot. When I got outside I looked at the price and they were $20.99 - that is nearly £10 for a tin of chestnuts!!!! I don't think I will be buying anymore!
Went home for a late lunch and then caught up with the TV programmes I had recorded.
Jon got home and we had fish and chips for dinner later on and it was very good.
WEATHER
Cold first thing then cloudy/sunny and 14 degrees

Alovely present from Alison
Went for a coffee and then to the supermarket to do my weekly shop.
Jon came home for lunch and later on I went over to see Alison for a cuppa. She had bought me a lovely glass ornament for my birthday. It is blue and green and is a Maori symbol and means long life and I was really pleased with it.
We had a long chat and she is going to help me with my family tree.
WEATHER
A really chilly wind today with cloud and sun.
Wednesday, 7 July 2010
A chilly swim
Les and I went for a coffee and a chat and sitting in the sun was very warm.
On the way back I stopped off to buy some fish for dinner.
It is the school holidays so there are lots of children around with dogs in the park so I tend to walk Totty on the road as there is a definite lack of adult supervision and I don't trust the dogs.
WEATHER
Cloudy to start and then a warm 18 degrees
Tuesday, 6 July 2010
We both have colds!!!
Went to my keep fit class and then had a coffee.
Back home and did a bit of housework.
Jon came home for lunch and his cold is much worse than mine and he would have been better having a day at home.
WEATHER
Cloudy with showers but 18 degrees.
Sunday, 4 July 2010
A quiet day
We went out for coffee and then came home and just did bits around the house and then watched TV and lit the fire.
Had roast dinner tonight.
WEATHER
Very cold this morning as no sun, cloudy for most of the day, showers later.
Saturday, 3 July 2010
A lovely winter day
Peter went after him and didn't come back either so we walked across and I was left with two dogs while Bronwyn went into the garden to look for them. It was really funny as she was walking past the window she saw the owners still in bed! She got out fast but still no Peter or Uppy. Looks like he escaped out the back of the garden and made his way down to Rotary Park.
We walked down to the park and met a cross Peter walking back with the dog who has no shame and looked very pleased with himself. Fortunately the tide was out or he would have been in the water and very wet!
Jon finished chopping wood and needed a shower and then we went out to Tauranga and had a coffee sitting outside in lovely sunshine, so warm Jon had to take his jumper off.
We went to the library to change our books and then Jon wanted to look for a new jacket for work so we went to a little shop where we have bought other things for him. They had a sale on and he tried two jackets on and liked them both and could not decide so, and this is where I always want to crawl away and hide, he asked the man what he could do on the price if he bought both. Bearing in mind the jackets were already half price the man gave him another $25 off. He is a true salesman!
We then had a quick visit to the supermarket and went home for lunch.
It was so lovely we decided to go out to Te Puna Quarry and take Totty out for a long walk. We got to the top of the park and sat on a bench looking at the view which is lovely and looks across to the Mount and right over Tauranga and I never tire of it.
I cooked a nice winter fruit salad and used only half the ingredients but there is enough to feed an army!
We had some nice fish served on hummus with cherry tomatoes and it was very good.
Jon's back is hurting with all that chopping!
WEATHER
Sunny and crisp all day
Friday, 2 July 2010
Red Cross
Left the shop and went into Tauranga to meet Bronwyn to go shopping for something for Heather's graduation now that the sales are on and I need something for winter. Jon is at a meeting in Auckland for the day so not home for lunch.
After going in and out of a few boutiques we found a nice jacket in Kooki. I was going to leave it and carry on looking but changed my mind and bought it. It is sort of brown with black in it and patterns of leaves in various shades of gold, brown and pink. Sounds awful but it is really nice. Now I just need something to wear with it!
We then went for a cuppa and a chat and then it was time to get back. When I got back I was really hungry so had a late lunch.
I had been meaning to see Alison all week but when I phoned she was busy getting ready to go away to Auckland for the weekend.
I called Janice instead as she had left a message asking me to give her a call and tell her how the holiday went.
Jon was back on time. It is amazing how many flights there are around NZ and they are very rarely late only if there is fog anywhere.
We had our fish and chips for dinner as usual for a Friday.
WEATHER
Very cold first thing then sunny.
Thursday, 1 July 2010
A busy day
Took Totty out for her walk. Jon has flown to Nelson this morning and will be back tomorrow.
I went into Tauranga for coffee then onto the library and looked around the shops for an outfit for Heather's graduation as the winter sales are on. I saw a few things but nothing I really liked. it was too late to get home for lunch and then back out for my physio appointment so I had a quick sandwich in town.
The physio is called Hamish and is very nice and did some work on my neck as he said it is very tight. I need to go again on Monday and not do any weights or arm raising.
I then went to do my supermarket shop before going home.
Bronwyn came over for a chat and to bring over the money for the duty free we got for her and we arranged to go shopping together.
I took the dog for a walk and then settled in for a night on my own. Jon called to say he had arrived and it was very cold down there.
I had my dinner and caught up with some TV.
I phoned Roz and had a nice chat to her and then went to bed.
WEATHER
Cold first thing then very sunny for the rest of the day.
