I made a cooked breakfast for us this morning and then Jon and Heather got ready to go on a bile ride to Fordham. Not sure how Jon will manage that. I was going to go and meet them at the garden centre there for a coffee but Luke, the electrician, came to fit the light on the wall at the side of the house and to see why the light on the patio had stopped working so I stayed home.
I made a lemon cake which went horribly wrong, did not rise and was so heavy it was like a brick. I went over and over the recipe and quantities but couldn't see that I had missed anything out so not sure why. I threw it in the bin and won't be using that recipe again! Waste of time.
Luke said we need to get a new light for the patio as water has got into the other one so he needs to come back again to fit it!
Jon and Heather arrived back and Jon was shattered and looked so red in the face. He really should go out a few times a week and do a bit of training. He enjoys it once he is out it is just making him leave the office for an hour or so. He didn't do much for the rest of the day.
Heather showered and went into Cambridge to meet a friend and see the Christmas lights being turned on.
I cooked a duck for dinner and Kirsty came over as James is still in China. We had a lovely dinner and the duck was yummy.
We watched X Factor and still Stevie survives!
Monday
Monday morning and Heather was up at 5.45 so that she could have some breakfast before 6.00. She was due to have surgery to remove a ganglion type lump from her hand and had to have a general anaesthetic so nil by mouth from 6.00 a.m. She then went back to bed.
I got up and did a few things around the house and went out to get petrol.
I popped over to see Rene before I left to take Heather. She told me she had a urine infection and the doctor had been. She asked if I had had a phone call from the surgery about her prescription, I hadn't. Apparently, the doctor had told her, when she said she could not get her prescription, that I was friends with the secretary and she would arrange for her to call me to go and get the prescription, very presumptuous on her part and I was more than a bit annoyed. Obviously, not Rene's fault and she felt bad about it. I told her not to worry and I would sort it.
Back home I rang Sonia at the surgery and she too was annoyed at the text sent to her by the doctor but said she would get the prescription sorted and Jon would get it. Both Heather and I could have done without the last minute panic and rush to sort it before we left.
We had a phone call from Jon on our way to the hospital to ask what Rene's surname was! Lol! We have only lived across the road from her for 29 years! Apparently he was told he could not pick it up without knowing her name which is fair enough. I also had to make sure he knew she was Irene and not Rene!
Heather and I arrived at the clinic which is very nice and I was in there for a slipped disc many years ago, Kirsty had her toe op there and Jon had his finger amputated there. It is now run by the Nuffield and far more corporate. They do have a very good coffee machine in the waiting room which was most welcome as I was in need of a cup.
We were taken up to her room which was very nice.and then had to wait. The consultant came in to check she was OK, the catering lady came in to take her food order for after surgery, the nurse came in to tell her what to get changed into and do her obs and then at nearly two o'clock, she was scheduled for theatre at 2.15, the anaesthetist came in. What a very happy and chatty man he is. It took him all of five minutes to run through everything and he was gone as fast as he had arrived. I felt like a tornado had gone through the room!
The nurse then came in and took her to theatre and I left to go home with the intention of going back at 5.00 to bring her home.
I was very hungry by the time I got back at 3.00 so had some lunch and then made the dinner so that it would be ready for whenever we got home.
We had a call from Jane to say they had been to the fracture clinic and Jason has a broken bone in his hand and could be off work for six weeks. He is not allowed to drive at the moment but hopes it will feel better in three weeks when they hope to move house and he intends to hire a van and drive it and lift furniture - watch this space!
We left to go back to Cambridge (I can't drive on country roads at night which is why I had to go home and come back with Jon) which was not to bad as all the traffic was coming out of Cambridge.
When we got there she looked very pale and had not been back in the room very long. She said she tried to call us to say she would not be able to leave until 7.00 but we had already left. So, we just had to sit and wait.
She was not looking very well and said she felt sick and then she was, three times in total. She couldn't eat her food that she had ordered and they came and gave her an anti sickness pill but then she was sick again. Mr Happy Anaesthetist came to see her and they decided to give her an injection, too. They suggested some toast and asked her if she wanted to stay all night but she said she would prefer to come home.
She eventually felt better and got dressed, well, I dressed her, and they took off all her bits of cannula, wrist bands etc and put her in a wheelchair and we got to the door with a sick bowl just in case.
We finally got home at 8.30 and Jon and I were very, very hungry and I was so glad I had the dinner ready. Heather could only manage toast and then went to bed. Hopefully, after a good sleep she will feel better.
She thought she would be back at work in a couple of days but she has such a big bandage on and needs to have that changed next Monday so I don't think she will be driving anywhere. She hopes to get in to work on Friday on the train.
Tuesday
I didn't actually wake up till 9.00 this morning! Jon came up for his shower and I was still sleeping so I then had to wait for my shower so a very late start.
I popped over to see Rene later and she is feeling better today though not looking forward to her trip to Bury this afternoon to the cardiology appointment.
We had arranged to go out with Jane and Riley for lunch today and as Jason is not at work he came, too. We drove to the garden centre and had a look at all the Christmas things and the reindeer which are lovely then we went into the café for lunch.
Jon has a meeting in Derby tomorrow so was driving up tonight in case it is foggy in the morning so he left after we had eaten and then we looked around a bit longer before going home.
Jane and Jason stayed all afternoon and then Heather went out for dinner with her friend, she feels a fraud going out while she is not able to work! Jane and Jason left with a very tired Riley who is either teething or starting with a cold as he was not himself this afternoon, poor little man.
I had the evening to myself and had some dinner and then watched TV.
