Friday and Saturday

I went of to Tesco to do my shopping this morning and enjoyed a quiet shop as it was not at all busy. Spent too long strolling around though and missed my morning coffee.

When I got back and after putting the shopping away I popped over to see Rene and take her a cream cake. I didn't stay long as she was cooking her lunch.

I made some scrambled eggs for Jon and I and then was about to start doing some housework when Jane arrived with Riley which then put paid to me doing anything.

I spent a lovely afternoon with a lovely cuddly smiley baby. He seems to have got over his phase of crying when he can't see his mum which makes life so much easier.

He was due a bottle which I gave him and then he played some more. He does not like to lie on his tummy much and he loves to be standing and looking around but is happy to lie on his mat.

Jane didn't leave till gone five and then I started to do the housework I had planned, better late than never!

Luke came to fit the new light on the patio so now we are all lit up in the garden - another job finished.

Jon had a phone call from Gareth to say he will come next week to finish the bits off in the kitchen. Fingers crossed nothing happens to stop him.

Heather came home and I made dinner, swordfish tonight which was very yummy with garlic butter.

We watched some TV before going to bed.

Saturday.
Not a bad morning and really quite mild though I think the forecast is for colder weather next week.

Jon had already had breakfast when I got down but Heather wanted something hot so I cooked some bacon and we had bacon sandwiches.

Jane arrived with Riley who had a lovely little bear suit on, this one has a little tail on it. He looks so sweet and cuddly in these suits.

Jane and Heather went into Bury St Edmunds to the Christmas Market.

Jon and I went along to Tesco for a coffee and I had to take a little wooden advent house back that I had bought for Heather as it was broken. Well, I say advent but it is actually 12 days of Christmas so I will have to refill it but it is very cute.

I went to find another but they had all been sold. The lady checked in the stock room but there were no more and none expected in so I said I would keep the broken on but she didn't give me anything off it even after my friend's husband, who was in the queue, suggested I got 50% off!

By the time I got into Costa Jon had drunk half his coffee and mine was nearly cold.

We then bought a few bits before going home.

I got changed and went up to finish off the painting in the bathroom. I had to rub all the gloss down first so it took longer than I thought it would. Still it is finished now.

I then started rubbing down the woodwork in the downstairs loo where the decorators had made such a mess. I managed to get all of that done and painted but it was nearly dinner time when I had finished. Only the en suite to do now. We had run out of white spirit so I needed to use nail varnish remover to get the pain off my hands!

Fortunately, we had a Tesco fish pie which only needed to go into the oven so Jon sorted it.

We had dinner and then watched TV. My goodness Barry Manilow! How can he deny he has had surgery? As much as I like his sound he does look very weird.

Off to see Dawn French tomorrow!

WEATHER
Sunny spells with some rain 12 degrees

Thursday

Not cold again this morning, just wet.

The man came to cut the tree down this morning but checked there was no nest before he unloaded all his equipment. They cut it down so that it all fell on our neighbours side as he did not want to break our patio which was very nice for us but not so much for the neighbour. However, they did clean up everything afterwards so nothing left to worry about.

When he got up into the tree he could stand in the hollow of it where it was rotten and he was up to his hips so it was a deep hole! They cut it down to the same level as the fence and it looks much brighter out there now and we should get some sun in the mornings if it ever appears again!

He kindly cut two small trunks from another tree that we planted in the Millennium. The trunk had split into three and now is back to one so hopefully it will grow better now.

I spent the morning wrapping a few Christmas presents with my very nice wrapping paper that I bought a  few months ago and it has reindeer on it in gold glitter. Only problem was the glitter all came off and onto me! I also wrote all my Christmas cards for NZ, Spain and America. What a good girl I am!

I went out to meet Sonia, the secretary from the medical centre where I worked and Val, one of the nurses who retired recently, for lunch. We had a good natter and an enjoyable lunch.

I went to order my turkey, sausage meat and chipolatas so that is one less thing to think about.

I went down to the post office to post my cards. I don't think I had better tell Jon how much they cost! The man in the PO was most interested to know why I had so many to go to NZ and when I told him I had lived there he was quite envious.

I then went round to visit my friend and we had a cuppa and a catch-up. So all in all a very lazy day for me.

I got back and made Jon a cuppa and then started the dinner. We had some nice roast belly pork with roast potatoes and vegetables and a jus. It was a jus and not a gravy as I didn't make enough!!

After dinner we watched some TV and now it is time for an early night. I finished the medication for my tummy problems on Monday and all the symptoms have come back today so I guess I should make an appointment and go back and see the doctor :-(

WEATHER
Rain first thing then cloudy 12 degrees

Wednesday

A lot of rain overnight and very heavy first thing this morning and turned to light rain later. Not a nice start to the day but better than frost I suppose.

Jon went out to see the doctor this morning about his ears. He was back very quickly and I thought he had got the date wrong but he said it was very quiet there and he went in early! Must be a first. He has been referred to a consultant so still we wait and grow deaf with him as the TV is so loud and I get so fed up repeating myself - very frustrating.

I went to the gym this morning and did my water workout. The original teacher was back today and to be honest is it was a bit boring after the other one who is so bubbly this teacher has as much personality as a dead match. We did work hard but it was not fun but I am glad I went.

Back home and I had a coffee and then dried my hair.

Other than the ironing, and watching Doc Martin while I did it, I haven't done much else today.

Heather came home and I made dinner and then I rang my sister and had a chat.

A bit of TV and a coffee and now it is bedtime. A boring day for me!

WEATHER
Wet and miserable 10 degrees

Monday and Tuesday

We had a lovely sunny start to the day and our first stop was to the doctor's surgery to see the nurse to have the dressing removed from Heather's hand. Our appointment was for 9.40 but we didn't get seen till gone 10.00 I was not happy.

The wound on Heather's hand is much longer than I thought it would be and is in a zigzag shape with about ten stiches. It all looked clean and dry and the nurse put a dressing on. the stiches should dissolve but if not she will need to have them removed.

We got home and had a quick coffee before setting off to Audley End  to get the train.

We didn't get a train till 11.20 so it was nearly lunch time by the time we arrived in London so we caught the tube and went across to Chelsea to a restaurant that Heather wanted to go to.

Lunch was very nice, I had a lovely meat and ale pie which was delicious and we were all too full for pudding.

We then went to Harrods and had a look around. I can't say I ever enjoy that shop as it is too big and complicated to get around but it was nice to visit the Christmas shop.

We then caught the tube again and went to Hyde Park to Winter Wonderland which was so much bigger than I expected it to be. There were lots of lovely cabins with crafts and gifts for sale and lots and lots and lots of food places and drink places. It was all lit up and a huge Christmas tree and a big skating rink which was very busy.

There were also lots of rides to go on and some were so scary looking. I have no idea why people would want to be turned upside down, turning around about forty feet off the ground up be dropped time and time from a great height but lots of people do as it was very busy.

Heather had a hot chocolate from a stand that had four chocolate fountains, milk, white, dark and strawberry chocolate. With lovely fruit skewers to did in. I went  for the mulled wine with Amaretto rum and it was lovely and really kept out the cold.

We paid to go into the ice palace and see sculptures which were really good. It was minus 5 inside! We all had a go on the ice slide which was fun and I didn't disgrace myself but Jon got stuck going down. Heather was waiting to go after him and the man told her 'there are good techniques and bad techniques and that is a bad one!' Lol!

When we got outside of the ice palace it felt very warm even though it wasn't.

We walked through the rest of the park and back to the station and caught the tube - really, really packed in like sardines - and then the train back.

We ordered an Indian on the way home and picked it up. It was OK but not the best I have had. The last good Indian I had was in NZ but that is a bit far to go.

I had a text from Jane to say Riley had a cold and she had waited 90 minutes to see a doctor. It is only a virus but he has a cough, too and panics when he coughs as his throat is sore and he has a lot of mucus. It is horrible to see them with a cold especially the first one.

Jason went back to the hospital today and was told he can return to work but no heavy lifting so he is on light duties only. They will now get removal people in to help with the move as Jason won't be able to do it. Hopefully, that will all go ahead on 12 December just the weekend we are booked to see Andre Rieu in Leeds so we won't be much help apart from on the Friday and Heather is away, too. Bad planning! But they will be glad to get in.

Tuesday

My goodness me it was cold this morning - minus two degrees when Heather was de icing her car and Jon and I looked out of the window standing by a hot radiator. Glad we don't have to get out early these days.

It was Heather's first day back to work and driving. She padded the palm of her hand with cotton wool as the wound is just above the palm where she touches the gear stick.

I decided to paint the bathroom today and so spent the morning preparing it. It is the same white colour so quite easy to do and no messing about cutting in by the coving.

We have finally sold the piano and the lady rang to say she could come about 4.00 to collect it. Jon cleared a path for them to be able to get it out of the garage where we have been storing it. They arrived with a flat bed truck with an electric lift on the back so it was not too difficult to load it. Sad to see it go but it has served us well and nobody plays it now. The lady who bought it wants to learn and is very excited about it.

I popped over to see Rene for a few minutes and she is fine but hates the cold weather and her house is like an oven. She certainly uses her winter fuel allowance!

We had a cuppa when I got back and then I went up and finished the bathroom walls. I just need to do the gloss tomorrow.

Heather came home and said she was hungry and I thought it was later than it was and rushed to get the dinner cooked.

Dinner all finished and cleared away and I realised it was very early still. I should look at the clock and not just guess the time. Never mind an early night to sit down for a change.

I had to wash Heather's hair again tonight as she didn't want to pull the stiches too much. It kills my back leaning over the bath to do it!

WEATHER
Monday sunny 12 degrees
Tuesday cold and -2 to start and only about 4 degrees for the rest of the day!

Saturday and Sunday

We didn't have an early start as I had to sort out the dinner for Heather so it was around 11.00 before we set off and then Jon wanted coffee so we only got as far as Tesco!

Finally on the road with a new CD to play in the car Now million or something - all the tracks had sold a million and it is very good.

We had a good drive with clear roads and very little traffic and arrived at our hotel about 2.00. After checking in we asked the way to walk into the centre and were given direction which took us along the canal which was very nice but the receptionist told us not to come back that way if it was dark!

A friend had told me about a quirky pub built into some caves and suggested we visit and just by chance we saw a sign for it near the castle so went to have a look. Fortunately, for us, the also do food so we found a table and ordered some beer and lunch. It was full and very hot inside so we sat outside and it was pleasantly warm. The beer was extremely good and so was the lunch.

We then carried on into the centre and had a look around the Christmas Market which had lots of food stalls and we watched the skating on the ice rink which was entertaining.

Time passed by and we went for a cuppa and listened to the Salvation Army band playing Christmas music in the Exchange building just near a very nice tea shop but we did have to wait a very long time for our cuppa.

Back outside and all the lights were on and it was very pretty.

It took us rather longer than it should have to find out way back to the hotel, just as well it was not raining.

We decided to have dinner in the hotel as we had done enough walking. There was only us and one family in the dinning room. Dinner was very good and once finished we went back to our room and watched I'm a Celebrity.

Sunday
I slept well but did wake up as I was too hot and I had to put the AC on. Not sure why the heating was so high but it was uncomfortable. We didn't actually wake till 8.30!

Breakfast was manic, organised chaos with people waiting to be seated and nobody seemed to know what was going on. Once we were seated and got our breakfast it was OK.

We checked out and as it was raining heavily our plans to walk to the castle changed and we drove and parked in a very difficult to get around car park, very narrow to get up and down the levels. Lots of marks on the walls so people have had a few bumps around there.

We went to the castle and were a little disappointed as it was more like a museum and has been restored and is very modern but the grounds are nice.

We had a coffee and it was just so hot I felt ill. I asked the girl how she could work in such heat and no windows open and she said she thought she might have to turn the heating down!

One of the information people at the castle suggested we should visit Wollaton Hall which was a few miles away so after leaving the castle and managing to exit the car park without any scrapes on the car we set off to see it.

It is a lovely Elizabethan house which is not the Nottingham Natural History Museum and free to go in. The grounds apparently have red deer but all we saw were people, lots of them, walking their dogs and no deer but all very nice and would have been even better on a fine day.

The house itself was lovely with lots to see though if you don't like stuffed animals it is not the place to visit.

We left the house and intended to stop for a bite to eat but we were not that hungry which as it turned out was just as well as the sat nav took us a lovely way back but we didn't find anywhere to stop until we got to the A1. We went through some lovely villages and through Melton Mowbray but didn't see a pork pie shop open!

We drove past Rutland Waters which is very pretty and some of the villages had so many thatched cottages in them, really beautiful. It was a shame to get back to the main roads again.

It started to rain as we got near Cambridge and from what I saw on Facebook and the state of the roads it had rained a lot so we were very lucky to have missed most of it.

We got back and Jon watched the Grand Prix and I had told him not to look at Facebook as there were comments on that he would not want to see.

Heather's dinner went well last night. They had a good time and they did a good job clearing up but she had cooked breakfast for them this morning and then they left and she had forgotten she couldn't wash up so I had a few things to sort out before I could cook dinner!

I cooked dinner and Kirsty and James came over and we had a nice birthday dinner for Heather. A lot of celebrations for her birthday I think. We watched the X Factor and then K&J went home.

We are going to London with Heather tomorrow but we need to go to the doctor's and have the dressing changed on her hand first. I hope we don't have to wait long.

Mixed with cloud, sun and some rain 13 degrees

Friday

I was up early and ready to take Heather to the station to get the train to Cambridge. There were lots of people at the station and it makes me wonder why there are not more trains to Cambridge, one an hour is not many!

I got back home and had breakfast and then started my housework. I needed to give the bathrooms a good clean as I had not done the shower doors for a couple of weeks and it showed. Why are they so difficult to clean. I have to strip my tights off and get into the shower to clean the doors properly! I hate it!

I did give Totty a bath before I washed the shower as she was a bit pongy. I also washed all her bedding.

Jon made me a coffee in his new machine which he is still perfecting. Tasted good but not a pretty picture on the froth.

Back to work until lunch time and a quick break for a sandwich and one episode of Corrie.

I then got ready to go into Newmarket to buy some food from M&S for Sunday dinner. We will not be back from Nottingham in time to cook a dinner and Heather is not able to do it so M&S it is.

I had a look around the shops and bought a nice Christmas bib for Riley and some books for Grandma's shelf. I am getting quite a collection now.

I stopped by to see Rene and she was ok. She has been invited, by a lady who used to live next-door, for lunch on Sunday and is saying she doesn't want to go. She is always saying how much she hates Sunday yet when she has the chance to do something she won't do it. Not sure if she will go or not. I told her she would enjoy it if she went but we will have to wait and see.

Kirsty popped round after work to get some brandy as she is making chocolate mousse for the dinner tomorrow for Heather.

Jon went to collect Heather from the station and I started to prepare the casserole for her dinner party and cook our dinner.

We had dinner and then watched some TV.

I finished up in the kitchen after preparing all the vegetables for tomorrow and the casserole is in the fridge so not much for her to do. I hope it all goes well and I am looking forward to our weekend in Nottingham though I expect I will be so tired I will sleep all the time! Only joking!

Cloudy with rain in the evening 12 degrees

Wed and Thurs

Seems like my life is not my own these days. It has been such a busy week. As Heather is all bandaged up on one hand I have had to do a lot more for her over the last few days and we are back to washing her hair over the bath, a lot of years since I have done that!

I just don't seem to get my own things done these days as I am always 'doing' for someone else and my classes get pushed down the list of priorities and I am not sure how to sort it as there is always so much to do.

I did intend to go to my class this morning but I had to go and take some parcels back to return to Amazon and then Heather's friend, who is a beautician, was coming over to do her nails and my eyebrows and I needed to buy dog biscuits so it all became a bit of a rush and no time for my class.

Once Abi left we went to Thetford as we had arranged to meet Jane and Jason and Riley there to go to Lidl a supermarket that had a special offer on children's wooden toys and we have never been to a Lidl before.

It is a good drive to Thetford and once they complete the new dual carriageway, not much more to do, it will be very easy. Lidl was full of Christmas goodies and we had a good shopping spree and bought some nice things.

We then went to the cafĂ© at Sainsbury's to have a late lunch and I gave Riley a bottle while we were there. He is now in his sit up pushchair as he was too long for the carrycot part and he loves looking around and can see what is going on. We then went to have a look around the clothes as we all like Sainsbury's clothes.

As it was a dull afternoon it was getting dark by 3.30 and so I said we needed to leave so that I would not have to drive in the dark.

We arrived home just as Kirsty was getting there and then Jon, back from Derby, soon after followed by James.

I cooked dinner for Jon and I as we were all going to the pub quiz down the road but the girls were eating in the pub.

We walked down the road and it was a very cold night. Kirsty has a bad back and had been for a sports massage so it was a bit of an effort for her to walk but she managed it.

Our team was Roger and Mary and Ian and Hilary and Jon and I. The girls were Jane, Kirsty and Heather, James and two girl friends. It was a really hard quiz this time but after a tie breaker between second and third we came second which I thought was pretty good. I also won a nice raffle prize of a Champneys gift set, Mary won a lovely jug, Heather won a gift set and Jane a lovely hand knitted blanket. Poor Hilary got the last prize and it was a horrible necklace which she wanted to leave on the table but gave to Heather to make her hand better!!!

Unfortunately, Jane had had to rush off home as Jason called to say Riley was crying and very upset and he couldn't calm him. She had to rush back up Centre Drive as she had left the car at our house and then drive home. I had a text from her later to say he had fallen asleep by the time she got home but she was upset that he had been so upset.

I was too tired to blog.

This morning I made sure I was up early and got stuck in to doing all my backlog of washing.

I went over to see Rene to change the dressing on her foot. It looks much better but still not healed so not sure how much longer we have to keep dressing it. I think I will have to call the surgery and have a chat with them.

Jane was at the house when I got back. She had dropped Jason at his mum's as they were going to a funeral. Jon had made her a coffee from our new machine.

I had a lovely morning with Riley and I gave him a bottle on my lap this time and not while he was in his pushchair. He was so cuddly and snuggled up to me. I changed his nappy and he just loves lying with no nappy on.

Jane and Heather were going to Bury and Jane put his outdoor suit on. It is a lovely navy bear outfit with ears on the hood and he looks so snug in it and very, very cute.

Once they had gone I did some housework and made lunch and got my washing dried and generally cleared away all the mess that has built up over the last few days.

I went to Tesco to buy all the food that Heather needs for her dinner party on Saturday. She was going to cook it all herself but now I will have to cook it tomorrow and leave it ready for her as we are going away. She will have enough friends over to give her a hand - literally! They have also booked a spa day but not sure how she is going to manage with that as far as the swimming pool is concerned.

Rene has been asking for a jam and cream donut and I finally found one today for her in Tesco and took it over to her but I didn't stay.

I came back and had a cuppa and did my ironing and then Heather came back and we watched I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here as we recorded it last night.

We had dinner and watched some TV.

I need to go to bed now as Heather is going in to work tomorrow as she has interviews but she needs to go on the train so I need to take her to the station.

WEATHER
Sunny spells but cold 10 degrees

Sun, Mon and Tuesday

I made a cooked breakfast for us this morning and then Jon and Heather got ready to go on a bile ride to Fordham. Not sure how Jon will manage that. I was going to go and meet them at the garden centre there for a coffee but Luke, the electrician, came to fit the light on the wall at the side of the house and to see why the light on the patio had stopped working so I stayed home.

I made a lemon cake which went horribly wrong, did not rise and was so heavy it was like a brick. I went over and over the recipe and quantities but couldn't see that I had missed anything out so not sure why. I threw it in the bin and won't be using that recipe again! Waste of time.

Luke said we need to get a new light for the patio as water has got into the other one so he needs to come back again to fit it!

Jon and Heather arrived back and Jon was shattered and looked so red in the face. He really should go out a few times a week and do a bit of training. He enjoys it once he is out it is just making him leave the office for an hour or so. He didn't do much for the rest of the day.

Heather showered and went into Cambridge to meet a friend and see the Christmas lights being turned on.

I cooked a duck for dinner and Kirsty came over as James is still in China. We had a lovely dinner and the duck was yummy.

We watched X Factor and still Stevie survives!

Monday

Monday morning and Heather was up at 5.45 so that she could have some breakfast before 6.00. She was due to have surgery to remove a ganglion type lump from her hand and had to have a general anaesthetic so nil by mouth from 6.00 a.m. She then went back to bed.

I got up and did a few things around the house and went out to get petrol.

I popped over to see Rene before I left to take Heather. She told me she had a urine infection and the doctor had been. She asked if I had had a phone call from the surgery about her prescription, I hadn't. Apparently, the doctor had told her, when she said she could not get her prescription, that I was friends with the secretary and she would arrange for her to call me to go and get the prescription, very presumptuous on her part and I was more than a bit annoyed. Obviously, not Rene's fault and she felt bad about it. I told her not to worry and I would sort it.

Back home I rang Sonia at the surgery and she too was annoyed at the text sent to her by the doctor but said she would get the prescription sorted and Jon would get it. Both Heather and I could have done without the last minute panic and rush to sort it before we left.

We had a phone call from Jon on our way to the hospital to ask what Rene's surname was! Lol! We have only lived across the road from her for 29 years! Apparently he was told he could not pick it up without knowing her name which is fair enough. I also had to make sure he knew she was Irene and not Rene!

Heather and I arrived at the clinic which is very nice and I was in there for a slipped disc many years ago, Kirsty had her toe op there and Jon had his finger amputated there. It is now run by the Nuffield and far more corporate. They do have a very good coffee machine in the waiting room which was most welcome as I was in need of a cup.

We were taken up to her room which was very nice.and then had to wait. The consultant came in to check she was OK, the catering lady came in to take her food order for after surgery, the nurse came in to tell her what to get changed into and do her obs and then at nearly two o'clock, she was scheduled for theatre at 2.15, the anaesthetist came in. What a very happy and chatty man he is. It took him all of five minutes to run through everything and he was gone as fast as he had arrived. I felt like a tornado had gone through the room!

The nurse then came in and took her to theatre and I left to go home with the intention of going back at 5.00 to bring her home.

I was very hungry by the time I got back at 3.00 so had some lunch and then made the dinner so that it would be ready for whenever we got home.

We had a call from Jane to say they had been to the fracture clinic and Jason has a broken bone in his hand and could be off work for six weeks. He is not allowed to drive at the moment but hopes it will feel better in three weeks when they hope to move house and he intends to hire a van and drive it and lift furniture - watch this space!

We left to go back to Cambridge (I can't drive on country roads at night which is why I had to go home and come back with Jon) which was not to bad as all the traffic was coming out of Cambridge.

When we got there she looked very pale and had not been back in the room very long. She said she tried to call us to say she would not be able to leave until 7.00 but we had already left. So, we just had to sit and wait.

She was not looking very well and said she felt sick and then she was, three times in total. She couldn't eat her food that she had ordered and they came and gave her an anti sickness pill but then she was sick again. Mr Happy Anaesthetist came to see her and they decided to give her an injection, too. They suggested some toast and asked her if she wanted to stay all night but she said she would prefer to come home.

She eventually felt better and got dressed, well, I dressed her, and they took off all her bits of cannula, wrist bands etc and put her in a wheelchair and we got to the door with a sick bowl just in case.

We finally got home at 8.30 and Jon and I were very, very hungry and I was so glad I had the dinner ready. Heather could only manage toast and then went to bed. Hopefully, after a good sleep she will feel better.

She thought she would be back at work in a couple of days but she has such a big bandage on and needs to have that changed next Monday so I don't think she will be driving anywhere. She hopes to get in to work on Friday on the train.

Tuesday

I didn't actually wake up till 9.00 this morning! Jon came up for his shower and I was still sleeping so I then had to wait for my shower so a very late start.

I popped over to see Rene later and she is feeling better today though not looking forward to her trip to Bury this afternoon to the cardiology appointment.

We had arranged to go out with Jane and Riley for lunch today and as Jason is not at work he came, too. We drove to the garden centre and had a look at all the Christmas things and the reindeer which are lovely then we went into the café for lunch.

Jon has a meeting in Derby tomorrow so was driving up tonight in case it is foggy in the morning so he left after we had eaten and then we looked around a bit longer before going home.

Jane and Jason stayed all afternoon and then Heather went out for dinner with her friend, she feels a fraud going out while she is not able to work! Jane and Jason left with a very tired Riley who is either teething or starting with a cold as he was not himself this afternoon, poor little man.

I had the evening to myself and had some dinner and then watched TV.

WEATHER
Up and down weather some sunny and some rain 11 - 14 degrees

Saturday

It was a pretty rude awakening this morning. I could hear a car stopping outside, we always have the window open, and wondered who it was. I then heard a knock on the front door so quickly got up and went downstairs. A delivery man was at the door and smiled and said 'sorry' and please can you sign here! I must remember not to order things from Amazon on a Friday. They are so efficient they deliver fist thing Saturday morning!

Jon was up by this time but I went back to bed to try and let my body catch up with my brains rude awakening! Not the best start to a Saturday!

I did finally get up and had a shower before going down for breakfast. I opened my package and it was the lovely mood candles I had ordered. They look so real and have a hint of vanilla. Who would have thought you could use a remote control on candles! But it works. So pleased with them even if they did get me up at 7.00!

I went over to see Rene while Jon was getting ready. She is very happy with her garden and I took some photos on my iPad but my battery went flat so she hasn't seen them yet.

She has been going on about making a potato, cheese and onion pie this week so today I peeled the potatoes and onion for her and chopped them up as it is very difficult for her. I hope she manages to make the pie and it is as good as she remembers.

I came back and Jon and I left to drive to Ely.

Ely Cathedral had the Christmas craft fair on today and the traffic was heavy. We tried a few car parks but could not get in so ended up going to Sainsbury's, which is new and very big, and parked no problem and went in for a coffee before doing our shopping.

Jane had asked me to get some nappies from Aldi, just across the road from Sainsbury's, as they had had very good reviews. We went to have a look around and spent five minutes laughing at the cookie jars that talk and we were very tempted to buy one.

Shopping done, and lunch bought, we returned to the car and fought our way through the traffic and headed to Jane's.

As we arrived Heather pulled in behind us also with a bag from Tesco with lunch in, double quantity for lunch.

Jane has done a lot of packing and the house looks bare so she is doing a good job. We had lunch and a play with Riley before he fell asleep. When he woke I had a lovely cuddle and sang some songs with him which he seemed to enjoy. He is so much easier now to hold and play with and he is so cute. I bought him a little monster sleep suit from the Halloween stuff from Sainsbury's sale rail and it is very cute.

Jon and I left so they could get on with sorting stuff from the loft. Jason can't do an awful lot due to his injured hand. Not sure how they are going to cope with the move.

We got back and I made a cuppa and sorted out some washing to go in the machine for Heather.

Kirsty popped in to see us and then went home for her dinner as she was tired. James is in Beijing till Tuesday so I asked her to come for dinner tomorrow which she accepted.

I cooked our dinner but Heather was tired after her big night out last night so after dinner she went up to her room and we watched X Factor. Stevie really needs to go.

WEATHER
Cloudy, misty start then some sun 12 degrees.

Friday

A pretty dark and miserable start to the day this morning.

I woke and was opening the curtains to see Mark, the gardener, pulling up outside Rene's house to start the cutting back of her shrubs, in the rain!!!

I had breakfast and then went over to Rene's just after ten to wait for Tracy from Plumb's to come and measure the chair.

I changed the dressing on Rene's foot and then we sat and chatted and looked out at what Mark was doing in the garden. By 11.10 still no sign of Tracy so I went home and called her and left a message on her mobile.

I made a coffee and then looked out and saw Tracy arrive so went back over.

It took ages for her to pin and measure the chair, glad it was only a chair and not a suit!!! She ha finally finished at 1.00but Mark was still cutting back in the garden and making a good job of it.

I went back home and made lunch for Jon and I and then I went shopping to Tesco to buy some fish for dinner and then onto Homebase to buy a plug. I also picked up a few Christmas things!

On my way back I popped in to see Mary and had a cuppa and a chat. It was nearly five o'clock when I left and I though Jon would think I had got lost.

As I got home Jon had just put the kettle on so I had another cup of tea! My plans to make a lemon cake out of the window as it was too late.

I unwrapped the cake I made yesterday and it smells so boozy, I hope they like it! I wrapped it in paper and foil and will leave it till we need to marzipan it as I don't think it needs anymore brandy!

We had fish and Slimming World chips for dinner and it was very good. Heather is out with people from work tonight and staying at her friends so not back till tomorrow.

Jane rang this evening and told me that Jason had fallen down the stairs last night and was in pain at 4.00 in the morning so went to A&E and he has a split bone in his finger. They strapped it up and he needs to go to the fracture clinic on Monday. This is not what they need right now with a house move in the next few weeks.

We watched Children in Need on TV and it is amazing just how much money is raised and what good causes it goes to. Makes me cry to see all these sad stories.

WEATHER
A wet start but fine later 11 degrees

Thursday

I had a good morning to do housework today as Jon went to Milton Keynes to a meeting so I had the house to myself and I get on better with my work.

The gardener, Mark, came and put the turf down at the front of the patio so no more muddy, doggy paws. It looks a bit messy now but once it takes it will look good.

When Mark had finished I took him over to have a look at Rene's garden and he said he can do it for her tomorrow. She told him she would be watching out of the window to make sure he did a good job!

I baked another Christmas cake for Jane this time. I had to pour a half a cup of brandy over it when it came out of the oven and then wrap it, still in the tin, in newspaper and leave it for 24 hours. It already had a third of a cup of brandy in the mix. It is going to be a very boozy cake! I wasn't sure on the mix but I cooked some little cakes as there was too much mixture and they tasted fine but of course they did not have the extra brandy.

Mary said she was coming over but got delayed and Jon was actually home before she got here. She did manage to find some puff pastry mince pies in Waitrose for Rene which was kind of her. She took the microwave that I sold to her and the money went into our family pot. All the money for everything we have sold has gone into a pot, one that needs to be broken to get it out, it will be used as a family treat depending how much we save.

Once Mary left I went over to see Rene as I had not changed her plaster but she said to leave it today as it was OK. I gave her the mince pies and she said they looked 'bootiful' so hopefully she will like them. She said my friend was kind to find them. The hairdresser arrived to do her hair so I left them to it. I need to arrange for a home visit sight test for her but will leave it till next week. She now says she doesn't want to go for her cardiology appointment next week. She saw that the appointment was for 4.00 and she is worried it will be dark when she comes home as she doesn't like Marie driving in the dark! I have told her she has to go as it is important.

I then went into Newmarket to buy a gift bag that Heather had asked me to get. I went into the SCOPE charity shop and bought a toast rack as Jon is always saying his toast goes soggy if it is put onto a plate. They had taped silver sugar pincers to the toast rack to sell as a pair. They only wanted three pound fifty for them and I am sure the spoon is worth more than that.

I went into Iceland to buy something for our dinner as I had forgotten to take some meat out of the freezer so we had some very nice bbq spare ribs that I just had to heat in the oven.

We watched some TV after dinner and there is another day over.

Overcast and windy 12 degrees

Wednesday

Another lovely morning with clear blue skies so can't be bad.

I went to my aqua class and had a really good time. Starting to get to know the ladies now which is nice but they don't go for coffee which is a shame as there is a nice café at the leisure centre.

I had to get home ASAP after class today as the lady from Plumb's Upholstery was coming to see Rene after 11.30 so I rushed home and dried my hair and then went over to Rene's house to wait for her. I stayed till 12.30 but she had not arrived. I tried calling but her phone was off. Really annoying.

I got back home and made lunch for Jon and I and just as I finished I saw a car at Rene's and so I went across. The lady said she had been held up on a difficult measurement but she could have called. Rene was not impressed but she soon calmed down once the lady brought in the material samples. She chose a nice fabric in a light brown which I think will look nice. It is going to cost £224 which seems a lot but she is happy with that and hopefully she will like it and it will make her happy. The lady needs to get a chart made for the measurements as it is not a standard chair so she will come back on Friday to measure and get the deposit. I have written it all down for Rene and hopefully she will remember.

I went back home and then took Totty out for her walk and it seems so mild for the time of year with lovely sunny days.

I then went out to Tesco and as I was on my way I remembered that I had arranged to meet a lady at 4.00 to buy a toy from her that she had advertised on a selling page and as it was now 3.20 I needed to hurry so I was strict with myself and kept to my list and just managed to make it to Waitrose car park to meet her.

She told me she would stand by the trolley park and just as I was heading there I bumped into a friend I haven't seen since I got back. I then saw a lady waiting nearby so rushed over and said 'are you the lady with the frog?' Fortunately, she was! It is in very good condition and works well so I gave her the money and went back to see my friend and we had a chat.

I got back and tried out the frog who is called Tad and made by Leapfrog - all new names for me these new toys! He is very cute and plays songs and says shapes and lights up so I think Riley might like him.

Jon and I had a cup of tea and then I prepared the cake tin to make Jane's Christmas cake tomorrow, preparing the tins takes such a long time, cutting all that paper. Never mind it has to be done.

I tried to call my sister as it is her birthday today but she was not home. I did have a message from her later to say her card and voucher had arrived - phew! One down one to go!

I cooked our dinner and Heather came home just as it was ready.

After dinner we watched TV but Heather went up to her room to catch up with the soaps from last week when she was away.

We had a phone call from Jane about 8.30 to say that she had just had a call from her mortgage man to say it had all gone through! YEAH!!!!! Soooo happy for them and she was so excited. She has not been sleeping at night so hopefully she will tonight. Not sure how long it will take now to complete but the man who is buying their house needs to be out by 21st November so not sue what will happen. I can see I am going to be busy soon helping her pack.

Sunny with light cloud 14 degrees

Tuesday

I was up and showered and had to have my breakfast by 8.00 and then nothing else till after my ultrasound - good for the diet!

I did my washing and hung it out and then went to see Rene with my foot spa and foot creams to give her a treat. I saw our neighbour from across the road. She was coming back from school after dropping off her little boy and was taking her 17 month old to tumble tots. I had a chat with her and she told me she has given up work as it was getting too stressful now that her little boy has started school so she said if I ever need a hand with Rene she would be happy to help which is very nice of her. She told me she had invited Rene in for tea last week but she said no.

When I went in to Rene she was trying to do her dishes and also wash a heavy vase that was a present for her Ruby anniversary and she was scared she would break it. I did her dishes and took the opportunity to clean the sink and bowl with some bleach. I don't think she see how grubby it all is and wish she would let Marie do more for her.

I got the foot spa ready with some hot soapy water but there was no socket to plug it into as her new boiler thermostat is connected to the one and only. I said next time we will do it in the front room where she has more sockets. She was happy just to sit with her feet in the water. I am not sure if the wound on her foot is looking better or not. I really hope we don't have to go back to the doctor.

She told me she doesn't want to go to the Christmas lunch at the Day Centre now but I told her it was too bad as she is going! I dried her feet and then put some nice peppermint foot lotion on them and she really enjoyed it. Considering I hate feet I think I did pretty well!

When I got back Jon was just going into Newmarket to the library and to buy some stationery and for a coffee. As I couldn't have any coffee I stayed home.

I left to go to the hairdressers just as Jon was coming back.

I had my hair cut and it is nice but probably not as short as I wanted it. The hairdresser told me she didn't want to make it like an old woman style! We will see how it goes when I have to wash it myself.

I went to the post office to post my sisters' birthday cards, one for tomorrow and one for Thursday. I hope they get there as they have vouchers in and the lady in the post office said that she could not accept them over the counter as she knew they had vouchers in and they should be sent registered at more than six pounds each so I told her I would take my chances and hopefully they will both get them.

When I got back it was later than I thought it would be and I was supposed to drink two pints of water an hour before my appointment but I only had half an hour!

I went to the hospital and didn't wait long and went in. The first thing she said was 'your bladder is empty' oops. She then scanned my tummy and looked for gallstones but it was all clear and she found nothing anywhere else. I am obviously very pleased about this and it has put my mind at rest but it hasn't stopped the pains in my tummy so not sure what the next step will be. If it is an ulcer it could take eight weeks on this medication to heal and it wouldn't show on a scan so I suppose I just have to wait and see.

I got home and made some lunch as I was very hungry and then I did my ironing and watched some TV.

Jane rang to say they would know by the end of today if the mortgage was going through but I haven't heard anything tonight so she obviously hasn't head yet. Poor girl it is really getting to her now and she is not sleeping with worry. She said she wouldn't mind if Riley was waking now but he is going through the night so she has no reason to be awake.

Heather was out for dinner this evening so it was just Jon and I and after dinner we watched TV. A programme about the hotel in the Shard which looks amazing but very expensive. Not sure I would like to sleep all that way up though.

WEATHER
Sunny but cold 12 degrees.

Monday

I went to my aqua class this morning and we had a new teacher, well, she was new for me. She was really good and we had a good workout and did a lot of deep water exercises - no feet on the bottom! Some of them were really hard and I suspect I will feel it in my tummy tomorrow! The class just flew by and there was no clock watching like there is with the other teacher who, although very good, is a bit boring after a while with pretty much every class the same so it is good to have a change.

I came back and dried my washing that I had put on before I went out. I then went over to see Rene who seems to be more forgetful than ever. I had called the upholstery people and made arrangements for them to come and give a quote to cover her chair on Wednesday but by the time I was leaving she had forgotten and didn't know what I was talking about.

We had lunch and then I went to Tesco to do some shopping for a few things.

I got back and then took Totty out for her walk and she walked, reluctantly, all the way round the block.

I had a call from the hospital in Newmarket to say they had had a cancellation for tomorrow and can do my scan so I said I could make it. I have to have an empty stomach which means no food after 8.00 and then I need to drink two pints of water an hour before. I think by 2.20 I am going to be very hungry!

I did a few bit and pieces around the house before preparing the dinner.

Heather came home and we walked up to the very top of Centre Drive to collect a couple of things I had purchased from a lady on one of the Facebook selling pages. She was a very nice young mum of two boys age six and three who were actually turning the place upside down and had toys everywhere but she was quite calm with it all. She has some other things but I think they are too old for him yet but they are all in lovely condition and very clean so I was happy to buy them.

We walked back home and had dinner and then watched some TV. All the exercise must have made me tired as I fell asleep!

Sunday

I just want to shout slow down at the moment as life is speeding by so fast!

We went down to a local café, The Pantry, for breakfast this morning and it was very nice but far too much for me to eat.

We then went to buy some wellies for Jon (had to correct the auto text then as it always changes wellies to willies!!!). He is finding the soil too wet to walk on in his gardening boots.

We came home and I went over to see Rene and change her dressing and stayed with her for a chat. She was feeling very low today, nothing new for Sundays as far as she is concerned, but she also had a back ache and did not look very well.

I then took Totty out for a walk and it was such a lovely day and stopped to chat to a few people I know.

I got back just as my friend was leaving, having returned our hedge trimmer so we had a chat.

Jon and I didn't need lunch and as he had finished his work in the office her went out to do some work in the garden and spent the rest of the afternoon outside.

I made a Christmas cake for Kirsty and have one more to do for Jane tomorrow. I will have Christmas cake coming out of my ears!

I cooked a nice, stuffed turkey thigh for our dinner. Jon asked if it was a trial for Christmas!!!

Heather arrived back from Stoke earlier than we thought but safe and sound.

Jane went to see her house which is now finished so we just need the mortgage to be completed and then they will be ok.

Dinner was very tasty and then we watched X Factor.

I then uploaded some photos onto Facebook before going to bed.

Sunny spells 14 degrees

Saturday

I had a little lie in this morning which was nice.

I had breakfast and put a load of washing on and did a few jobs around the house.

Jon is busy doing some work that he needs to email by Sunday night so he is in the office most of the day but we did go out for a coffee.

We got home and Kirsty came to collect a letter that arrived this morning and I sent her a message to tell her it looked important but she had been to work and didn't stay long.

We had lunch and then Jon went into the garden to move some of the stones and have a break from the computer.

I was going to go across to see Rene but Marie arrived so she was not on her own and I will go over tomorrow.

I actually managed to get all my washing, well it was actually all of Heather's washing, dried so brought it in before it got damp. Just as well I did as it started to rain and then later it rained really, really hard and we lost the TV signal for a while and just while I was doing some ironing!

I cooked some lamb steaks for dinner tonight and they were very nice - I love lamb.

We watched TV and we are now up to date with Coronation Street, the first time since we came back and I am nearly up to date with Neighbours.

We then watched the X Factor and now it is bedtime.

WEATHER
A fine morning but heavy rain in the evening 14 degrees

Friday

I forgot to post my blog last night as I was tired so just a quick catch up.

I rang my friends Margaret and Sharon in NZ this morning and had a lovely chat to them. I really miss them both so much. Sharon told me all the news from the Red Cross so I am up to date on that now.

I spent the rest of the morning doing some housework and had a call from Jane to say she needed to come into Newmarket to do some shopping so would pop in after her baby massage class. I asked if she wanted to stay for lunch and she said yes.

I went outside and swept the pine needles and cones up as it looked a real mess outside. I tidied up the edges a little but it needs a bit more work out there.

I went out to do my shopping and when I got back Jane and Riley were here.

Jane fed Riley while I got the lunch ready. Jon has been busy doing a lot of work in the office.

We had a nice lunch and then I had a play with Riley.

I had to take Rene to the doctors to have her foot checked and was just about to leave when Ben, the builder, arrived with a load of stones for the drive. I had to ask him to wait while I got my car out or I would have been late.

I went over for Rene and another neighbour opened the door and I said we were going to the doctor. She told me she thought Rene must have forgotten as she was just making a cup of tea for her and she was not ready.

Rene said she thought the appointment was for the morning and I had forgotten!!!! She had changed the plaster herself and had forgotten that I had told her not to.

I quickly got her coat sorted her out and locked up the house and we left.

It was very windy walking from the car to the doctors and she nearly got blown over.

We weren't in there long and the nurse checked her foot and said it was fine and did we want to go back next week. I said if we could avoid it it would be better and that I was happy to change the dressing every two or three days as it was so much of an effort to get her down to the surgery. Hopefully, she won't keep changing it and it will continue to improve.

I got her back home and settled and then I went home as Kirsty was coming for dinner. I did open a bottle of port, which she got for her birthday and she had not been able to open so she can have a drop when she wants.

Back home and Kirsty arrived and we had a chat before I got dinner ready.

We had a nice evening and she left to go home about 11.00. James was not due home till about 1.00a.m.

WEATHER
Cold with some sunny spells 12 degrees

Thursday, 6 November 2014

Thursday

We woke to the first frost this winter and I am so glad we have central heating!

I got ready to go to London but had to go and see Rene to change the dressing on her foot. It is looking ok and she is taking her antibiotics. She told me she had paid the plumber - cash!!! Not sure what she is doing keeping that much cash around.

Jon and I drove down to Audley End and caught the Stansted train again and then the Stansted Express to London Liverpool Street and then the underground to Tower. It was very busy but not like it was last week.

Getting out of the station was hard and then crossing over the road as all the people want to look from this part of the wall. We walked around and got a view at the side and then managed to walk all the way around and saw all the poppies from all sides. I think the good weather had brought a lot of people out, too as it was very sunny.

We then got the tube to St Paul's and it probably would have been as quick to walk but Jon hates crowds and walking around London so we got the tube!

I had a voucher for Café Rouge and knew there was one near St Paul's. I also wanted to see at least one of the 50 Paddington Bears and I knew there was one around there.

We had a lovely lunch and then set off to find Peter's Hill where it was. We ended up walking right around St Paul's and back to Café Rouge and then saw Paddington! We could have saved ourselves a 10 minute walk!

He was not as big as I thought he was going to be but looked very grand on his plinth.

We then walked back to the tube and to Liverpool Street where we caught an express to Stansted again and then changed for Audley End.

We got home just after 5.00 o'clock and Totty hadn't made a mess at all and was in no great hurry to go out but was happy to see us.

I made dinner for Jon but I just had beans on toast as I was not very hungry after my big lunch.

We watched some TV and I had a message from Heather to say her flight was delayed and she would not be home until 10.00 and she was very, very tired. Too much drinking, eating and late nights in Dublin I think.

Heather got in just after ten had a quick chat and went to bed. She is off to Stoke to see her uni friend straight from work tomorrow and hopes she can leave early.

WEATHER
Sunny but cold 10 degrees

Wednesday, 5 November 2014

Wednesday

So comfy and warm in bed this morning and I really didn't want to get up.

I got dressed and intended to go to my aqua class but then Edna arrived and wanted to know what I thought about Rene. It really isn't important what I think about her and her forgetfulness as nothing I or Edna say or do will make a difference until she decides to go to sheltered accommodation. I missed my class which was a shame as I was all geared up to go.

I went over to see Rene and changed the dressing on her foot and wrote down the times she needs to take the antibiotics. Four times a day on an empty stomach or two hours after food is a little difficult for her to grasp so I made it as even as I could to fit in with her day and hopefully it will be alright.

Her foot looks much the same but she says it feels better.

I rang Papworth Hospital as she had a letter to say she had missed an appointment but she says she didn't see a letter. They say it was on 16 Sept but I have no idea where the letter went, she tends to 'put things away'. Papworth is very difficult to get an appointment and they are usually made a year in advance so I was told today but as it is only four months since she had the pacemaker fitted that would not apply! I have asked them if it can be done at Bury St Edmunds or Ely and they have said they will try but I don't hold out much hope. Rene says her niece can take her as she had a big heart operation there and know the way! Watch this space to see if the niece comes up trumps, I hope she does as it is a long way.

I got back home and dyed my hair which was long overdue. I am having it cut short again next week as I have had enough of the long look which takes a lot of looking after and I don't like the look of it anymore. I cleaned the bathrooms and then had my lunch.

I went into Newmarket late this afternoon as I wanted to change a jumper I had bought. I go after four o'clock as it is then free parking!

I did my shopping and went to M&S and when I came out it was dark but not yet 5.00!! I haven't driven in the dark yet and it was not very nice as it was a horrible evening.

When I got back Jon was home and we had a cuppa. He had a good meeting and hopefully he will get more work.

We had some nice plaice for dinner and then watched some TV.

WEATHER
Sunny but cold 10c

Tuesday, 4 November 2014

Tuesday

We woke to another lovely sunny day but so much colder today than it has been but then it is November.

Jon left to go down to Kent for a meeting and then he will drive up to Birmingham and stay the night ready for the show tomorrow where he has another meeting. I have a night on my own as Heather is away, too.

I did all my housework and the window cleaner came and did the windows and then I got ready and went to pick Rene up to take her to the Day Centre.

It does take such a long time to get her out of the house and into the car. I had to double park at the rear of the building and so she had another walk which took ages.

We had to walk through the dining room to get to the treatment room and they were putting out the lunch and Rene looked at the roast potatoes and we both said how delicious they looked. We had to wait a few minutes and one of the nurses came and had a chat to us and told Rene all about the centre and said she should come. They are having a Christmas lunch/party every day in the week before Christmas and they said she could come. I have told her I will go with her if she wants - apparently now I am over 60 I can use the centre, too!!!! You can get a manicure and a pedicure for seven pounds each and a reflexology session for fifteen pounds all pretty good I would say. Not sure Rene will go for it though but I am sure she would enjoy talking to people for a change.

The chiropodist was very kind and didn't hurt her. She did say it is now infected and she needs antibiotics but she cleaned and dressed it. I left Rene there and went across to the surgery to see if I could get her a prescription. I had a chat to the girls on reception as I know them all and they said they would get a message to the nurse and she would call Rene but I told them to call me as she gets confused.

I bought the Savlon and plasters at the chemist as the chiropodist suggested and then went back for Rene who was still having her feet done. Once finished I got all my instructions as to what I have to do to change the dressing and we left.

On the way out the nurse saw us and gave Rene a pot with three roast potatoes in so she was very happy.

I got her home and saw her settled and told her I would let her know what the doctor said when they called.

A nurse rang at 1.00 and asked me if I could get Rene down to the surgery!!!! I told her no as it had taken an hour and a half to get to the centre and back and that she didn't need a dressing anyway just a prescription. Eventually, she agreed to give me a prescription and I am to take her back on Friday afternoon.

After lunch I went into Newmarket to collect her prescription and I bought a couple of photo frames and a picture mount that I needed.

I got back and took the prescription to her. She has to take them four times a day. I hope she remembers.

I then got back and took Totty out for her walk. I haven't had chance to feel the cold!

Jason came to fix the problem with my car. All clever stuff, he just plugs it into his computer and it says what is wrong and fixes it.

I had some leftover casserole for my dinner this evening as I can't be bothered cooking just for me.

I watched some TV and then I rang a friend in NZ. She was so surprised to hear my voice and it was such a good line she thought I was round the corner!!

Well the dog is barking to tell me she wants to go to bed so I had better go.

WEATHER
Sunny but much colder 11 degrees

Monday, 3 November 2014

Monday

Heather was picked up for the airport at 7.30 this morning and was ready and waiting when the car arrived. She will be back on Thursday night.

Very dull this morning and much colder.

I finally sorted myself out and went to my aqua aerobics class this morning and the pool was not as cold as I thought it would be and the class was very good.

I got back and hung out my washing but it wasn't long before I had to bring it in again as it was raining.

I made my Christmas cake but it does not look as good as the one I made last year. I have searched high and low but can't find the recipe. I am sure once this had had a few doses of brandy it will be ok but it is not very deep. I now have to make two more for Kirsty and Jane.

Jon has been busy working in the office today and had phone calls this morning from both NZ and Oz.

I went over to see Rene and changed her plaster and her foot does look a little better but she said it is very sore. She told me a few weeks ago that she had an appointment to see the cardiologist at the end of October and that Marie would take her. She told me last week that the appointment was the end of November so I was not really sure when it was.The doctor said she needs her pacemaker checked as her pulse is erratic. Today when I went over she had had a letter from the hospital to say she had missed her appointment. I can't understand how it was missed as Marie was with her every day last week. She said Marie would be there later and would call the hospital. I have told her I will take her if Marie can't get time off. She gets so mixed up and confused and with both Marie and I doing for her there are bound to be mistakes. She can't remember things I have said to her from five minutes but then she goes on to tell me that she does not like the swimming pool and can't swim as 'Fatty Bradshaw' pushed her in when she was a little girl and it put her off!!!!

When I got back home Jon said Jane and called and was coming round as she finished at the hairdressers earlier than she thought.

Riley was asleep when she arrived but soon woke so I had a nice cuddle even if he did sick up on me!!

She stayed for a cup of tea and gave Riley a feed and left to go home and bath him. He slept till 8.30 this morning when she had to wake him!

Jon and I had dinner and watched TV and I fell asleep - must have been the swimming today. I hate falling asleep in the chair as it takes me a long time to drop off when I get to bed!

WEATHER
Overcast with some showers 12 degrees.

Sunday

I gave Jon and Heather a treat this morning and cooked them a full English, Heather didn't eat hers until much later when she got up. She was out late last night babysitting for Jane and Riley was a good boy and slept all night.

I went over to see Rene and changed the plaster on her foot which is still very painful for her. She is not looking forward to the visit to the podiatrist on Tuesday but she has to go. She said she is a coward and doesn't want him/her to hurt her. She was feeling very miserable but she always does on Sundays.

Heather left to go out with her friend for afternoon tea and they went over to see Riley on the way.

I made some lunch for Jon but I had fruit as I was still full from breakfast.

I made a casserole ready for dinner.

Jon and I went over to Bury St Edmunds to see the 10th Anniversary Concert of Andre Rieu. It was filmed in Maastricht, which looks a pretty place to visit. There were only about forty people in what is a very big cinema (I am used to the smaller ones in NZ). the film and concert were amazing and it must be lovely to be in a place like that with such a good atmosphere. Maybe next year we can make it over for the concert in June?

The film was three hours long and so we didn't get out till gone 6.00, so glad I made a casserole for dinner.

We got back and Heather was busy sorting out her clothes to pack for Dublin tomorrow so I gave her a hand with that and then we all had dinner and watched the X Facor. Very sad to see Lola go.

WEATHER

Saturday

We didn't do much this morning Heather went over to Milton to do the park run again and when she got back we went out for coffee.

When we got back Jon went into the office to do some work and I made a flower to go on a crochet hat for my friend's granddaughter. Heather had gone to Cambridge shopping.

We had lunch and as the weather had brightened up Jon went into the garden and I did more crochet.

I went into Newmarket later to buy a box to store all my knitting and crochet stuff in as I am fed up trying to find things in a plastic bag. I bought a very pretty box and came back and sorted everything out.

I did intend to make my Christmas cake today but I didn't have any treacle so had to buy some when I was out and will make it tomorrow or Monday unless we go to London and then it will be Tuesday!

Heather was babysitting for Jane tonight so I made the dinner early for her to eat before she left. I am really into these one pot meals now and tonight we had pork chops cooked in cider with bacon, potatoes, carrots and swede and small chunks of cabbage and it was yummy.

We watched TV and listened to the party going on nextdoor and they sound like they are having a good time. Sharon assures me it will finish by 12.30 but we can't really hear that much at the front of the house so not a problem for us but not sure what Heather will think when she goes to bed.

WEATHER
A dull start then sunny 18 degrees
