I woke early and got ready to go to the leisure centre for an Aerotone class. I had no idea what it was but knew it was a sort of keep fit.
We started with a warm up which nearly killed me as it was three realy fast songs with no breaks for a drink or a breather! I thought I was going to die and thought if it was the whole 45 minutes like this I would not last.
Fortunately, it was only the three songs and then we moved onto other moves but not so fast and I was happy to do that though the lunge repetitions got to me a little after a while. All in all it was a really good class and one I will go to again.
I came home and Jon was stuck into the finishing off in the office. He has worked so hard on it to get it finished and it is looking very fresh and clean.
He had a break to take two calls from NZ to do with work and then carried on and got the carpet tiles laid. Meanwhile I was sorting out the kitchen and emptying the cupboards and trying to decide what we want left and what we will need. I also have to make sure I have things to hand for Jane's baby shower but what the house will be like for that I don't know! I wish I had worn a pedometer today as I lost count of the times I went upstairs. I decided it would be easier to store kitchen things in the spare room and I can get at them as opposed to boxed up in the garage.
We stopped briefly for lunch then got back to it. Jon put the furniture together for the office and the desk looks very nice.
I spent the afternoon defrosting the freezer which was very iced up. I hadn't wanted to buy much till it was done so I can now stock up on some frozen stuff that I am sure we will need over the next few weeks.
I popped over to see Rene and take her a cream tea and some strawberries. Her hairdresser was there and we had a chat and I measured her door as she wants me to find a curtain to keep the flies out.
Back home Jon had finished the office and we then loaded all the cuttings from yesterday into the skip which is being collected tomorrow. I can't believe how much stuff we have got rid of.
I made a cuppa and Jane called to say Jason was having his hair cut in Newmarket and could they come to tea. Heather was out tonight and as I haven't much in store yet I popped out to Waitrose to get some food.
We had a lovely dinner and it was nice to sit and relax after such a busy day.
WEATHER
Cloudy with sunny spells, thunder in the afternoon then lovely sunshine 21 degrees.

Tuesday and Wednesday
WEDNESDAY
I had a lot of backache and pain in the tops of my legs last night, really painful and it kept waking me. Not sure if it is all the cleaning or my strenuous Pilates class!
After breakfast I went to my aqua aerobics class as I thought the water would help and it did a little. It was another really good class and I enjoyed it a lot.
I came home and had a shower and washed my hair. Jon was out for a coffee I presume.
I did some sorting out in the bedrooms to make room for all the things that have to come upstairs while the builders are in, mostly kitchen things a lot of which will go anyway once our container arrives.
Jon came back and got stuck into painting again and more pruning in the garden. Our neighbours say the quote from yesterday was too expensive and we agree so they had another man in today which we thought was OK but they still say it is too much even though we are paying half. We have told the man to go ahead and do the work we want on the lime tree and if the neighbours don't want to pay we will just have them trimmed on our side and leave it at that. I think they are missing an opportunity here.
Another trip to the charity shop with more things and a quick trip to Tesco to buy some fish for dinner.
We had lunch and got stuck into more of the same, cleaning, sorting and pruning. At least we can see some improvement now.
We went out to Homebase to buy more bark and then had a cup of tea and a scone and cream. I only had a little bit!
I cooked dinner and Jon finished the painting so he just needs to put the tiles down tomorrow and then we can get things back in before clearing the family room ready for Tuesday.
The builder came with samples for the patio and we have chosen the floor covering and we are going ahead with making the window bigger in the family room as it will give more light.
Another Corrie marathon tonight so we are nearly up to date.
WEATHER
Sunny with cloud but not as warm as yesterday. 20 maybe?
TUESDAY
I decided to get on and get some windows cleaned today as all the frames were very dirty. As I was doing them a window cleaner was over at the bungalow opposite and so Jon told me to go and have a word which I did and they came over and cleaned all the outsides for £10 and they were a mess, they will now come every 4 weeks. I then just had to clean the insides and the frames.
I took some things to the charity shop and popped into the supermarket to buy a few things. I am still not very organised with meals and things. I don't want to stock up the cupboards as they will all need to be emptied in a few days.
Jon was busy painting the office again and in between doing some pruning. We had a tree surgeon call round to quote for chopping the lime tree and to share the chopping down of the trees from next door.
The builder called round to bring us the samples of the floor covering and we had a chat to him about a few other things and by the time he had finished I was late for my Slimming World group so went rushing off.
I only stayed to be weighed and knew it was not good and I was right as I had only lost half a pound. Had I been weighed last Friday I would have lost three but the weekend put paid to that! Hopefully next week will be better.
I came home and made dinner and then we watched four episodes of Coronation Street. Heather tells me we have to get up to date by Tuesday as Tina is killed and her killer is revealed in the same episode and she doesn't want to read it or see it on TV. Not much chance of that for us as we never have time to read the paper or watch TV other than Corrie catch up!!

FRIDAY
Sorry I am not keeping up with the blog but I promise I will get better. As soon as the office is decorated I can use the computer instead of the laptop or my ipad.
Friday morning was spent mostly in the house sorting out - so much sorting out to do!!
We had another skip delivered and Jon spent most of the day in the garden with our next door neighbour, Chris, cutting the laurel down and loading it into the skip which soon filled up. The hedge looks pretty bare now and Totty is having great fun trying to get through to the chickens and cat!
Friday afternoon I thought I had plenty of time to get the dinner into the oven for when Kirsty, Heather and Heather's friend came home but I was wrong and Kirsty arrived so we chatted about the house and what we have done so far and what we have to do and so time moved on and I was still preparing veg when Heather came home. Not having all my usual cooking things makes it difficult not to mention the pans whith everything sticking to them! Eventually it was in the oven, coq au vin, and the potatoes on to boil.
I then had a mini meltdown as I could see it wasn't going to be ready on time. We were rushed as Heather had people coming round for a 'girls night in' to raise money for McMillan Nurses and they were due at 7.30. It was finally decided to have fish and chips and the girls went out to buy it which meant dinner was ready for Saturday!
After we had eaten and cleared away we got things ready for the girls which involved 900grms of chocolate for the chocolate fountain. On the plus side we did have a lot of fresh fruit to dip into it.
We had a nice evening and raised £100.
WEATHER
Warm and sunny with some cloud 20 degrees.
SATURDAY
We woke to a beautiful sunny day and after breakfast we drove into Cambridge and parked in the car park at Heather's office. We walked down the road to Costa and had a coffee and waited for Heather's friend to arrive and then we set off to the Cambridge Food Festival.
Unfortunately, it all had to be inside but it would have been so much nice to be outdoors and it was very crowded but lots of food to try.
We left to go and have lunch and bought pasties and went and sat outside King's College to eat them in the lovely warm weather. There was a graduation taking place and it was very busy with lots and lots of students walking around in their cloaks with some very proud parents.
We then walked back to the car and came home and my feet were killing me.
As I didn't need to make dinner I had some time so went into the front garden and cleared the weeds and it is all ready for the bark now and looking tidy.
We had dinner and Heather went into Cambridge to stay at her friend's house.
WEATHER
Very warm and sunny 23 degrees
SUNDAY
Jon and I went down to Homebase this morning to buy some bark for the flower beds. Four bags does not go far and I can see we will have to make a few trips before we are finished!
James came to pick us up and take us to their house for a bbq. It is the first time we have seen Kirsty's house and it is very nice with lovely bathrooms, all three which is a little excessive for a three bedroom house.
I saw her new rabbit which is really pretty with lovely black and white markings and she has two tiny baby rabbits one like her and one all black. They don't have their eyes open yet and are very tiny.
Jane and Jason arrived and it was their first wedding anniversary today so I was able to give them a present on the day. Heather had been to visit her friend and new baby in Royston and arrived shortly after.
We all sat out in the garden and it was so warm. James cooked a lovely bbq and we all enjoyed it.
Heather brought us home and I was more than ready for my bed but had to take Totty out for a walk first. She seems to enjoy going out again.
WEATHER
Sunny 25 degrees
MONDAY
It was very hot last night and I was awake a lot trying to get comfortable.
I had to get up early so my alarm was set for 7.30 and I could have slept on then!
I needed to make an appointment to see the doctor and you can only call on the day as they do not pre book any appointments. I started dialling the number just before 8.30 and it took me 15 minutes of constantly re dialling before I got through. I was given an appointment for 11.00 and told to 'be prepared to wait'.
Once my appointment was booked I could then decide which exercise class I wanted to go to and it was better to go to Pilates from 9.15 - 10.15 as this fitted better. I got ready and rushed off to the Leisure Centre and arrived just in time.
I really enjoyed the class and it was using the big balls, weights, and the rolls and also work on the bars and the hour flew by.
I got home changed and left for the doctor. I only had to wait for ten minutes so not bad. I have not been able to wear my wedding ring for about four weeks now as it goes red and itchy under it. I don't think after 34 years I am allergic to it so she things I must have got something under it to irritate and gave me some cream to use twice a day and if it does not clear in two weeks I am to go back.
I also have a lesion on my back which I was concerned about but she told me to use the same cream on it and see now it goes but it is nothing to worry about.
I then had to go to the phone shop again for them to sort my phone as I can't send texts. Hopefully, they will have got it right this time.
Back home Jon was stuck into painting the office along with doing some gardening and sanding down a small wooden table. When he has had enough of one job or is waiting for paint to dry he goes onto another and he is working so hard but seems to be thriving on it and no coffee today!
I did my ironing but I am finding it very hard to motivate myself to do anything as there is just so much to do and I don't know where to start! Once the builders are in we will just have to concentrate on the garden as we won't have anywhere else to go!
Jon went and spoke to our next door neighbours this evening, we haven't spoken to them for years due to a fall out over an annex they built. We have a man coming in tomorrow to look at the trees which are in their garden but hang over our side and drop plums down which ferment and smell terrible. Jon asked them if they would share the cost and she said she would be willing to see how much it is going to be so that was a positive move. Fingers crossed it is not too much.
While the dinner was cooking Jon and I sat out and had a G&T on the deck at the newly stained table and it was lovely sitting in the sun.

Thursday
I spoke too soon about sleeping well! I got to bed last night and could not get to sleep! I did finally sleep and Totty didn't wake me so 'swings and roundabouts'.
I did get up early today and got into doing all my jobs I had in mind.
Jon and I had to go out and look at kitchens this morning and we saw one we like and the guy is coming round on Tuesday morning to have a look what we need and to do the plan.
We then went to Costa at Tesco to have a coffee and had a conversation with the lady there as she asked us if we knew what a 'flat white' was!!!!!! She did make us a very good one though with a picture on the top.
As we were walking out I met one of the nurses from the Rookery and she was surprised to see me and we had a chat, a long chat. We then went back to the car and met yet another nurse from the Rookery and another quick chat and the promise of a catch up over a coffee.
We got home and Jon got stuck into painting the office and I finished my shopping list and went out to Waitrose stopping off to see if Rene wanted anything on my way.
I had so much to buy and it took me ages finding things. I could nto believe it when I bumped into yet another nurse from the Rookery!! And another chat.
I carried on shopping but as I was walking around not sure how but I hit my toe on the trolley, broke the nail and blood all over it. It is now VERY sore.
Finally finished the shopping and as Jon had called me on my mobile I then had to go and buy some radiator paint rollers which he had asked for. I finally got back at 2.00.
Jon was waiting for his lunch so I made that and then put all the shopping away. We are running out of space and I am not sure where we are going to put everything when I have to clear out the kitchen.
I still needed a few things Heather had asked me to get for the 'Girls Night In' tomorrow so had to go out again to Tesco to finish the shopping. I could not believe it when I bumped into one of the receptionists from the Rookery as I was leaving! It is not surprising I am not getting very far with my sorting.
Back home I started to do what I had wanted to do this morning - clearing the conservatory and clearing a space in the utility for all the cookery books.
Jon had finished the painting, two coats, but still needs more to cover the dark colour. He had wanted to cut the grass but could not start the mower and was getting very frustrated thinking that it was because he does not have the strength anymore. I tried and it was difficult and I could not start it either. We will have to get James or Jason to try and if not take it to be repaired.
The electrician came and we told him what we wanted done and he will get that sorted for us. It is just the outside lights and a light in the bedroom taken down and a new light for the conservatory.
I cooked dinner and we had some Slimming World chips which are very good and some cod with a herb crust which was also very nice and not at all like diet food.
My toe is really painful now. I keep trying to ignore it and hope it will get better soon.

Tuesday and Wednesday
WEDNESDAY
I am now sleeping very well at night and I love our bed as it is so comfy. I still get up once through the night to let Totty out for a wee but we both get back to sleep pretty quickly.
It is strange the things I have noticed since I got back for instance aeroplane noises. In NZ we only heard small planes landing or taking off from the airport or light aircraft flying around towing a glider or taking tandem jumpers up. Here, we have lots of big planes flying over.
I also notice the birds which are lovely and something Jon and I noticed the lack of when we went out walking in the woods. We also have lots of different birds in our garden which is nice.
I left to go to my first aqua aerobics class and I enjoyed it very much. The cool water was a bit of a shock to the system but once we warmed up it was fine.
I didn't stay to shower there as they are all open showers and I needed to wash my hair and didn't think it was appropriate to do it in full view of everyone so I got dressed and went home.
I had a shower and washed my hair and got ready to go and meet Sonia who I worked with at the medical centre. We had a lovely lunch and catch up chat and hopefully we can meet up once a week. I was very good and had a small chicken salad.
Sonia had to go back to work and I needed to do some food shopping so popped into M&S as it was easier.
I then went round to see my friend Mary but she was out so I went home.
Jon was back from his hearing aid appointment and is due to get some hearing aids in two weeks time. They are very expensive as he wants the ones that go inside his ears. He has 60 days to try them out and I hope he likes them and can get on with them as it will make life easier and quieter!
Jon was back at the preparation for the office but there were so many holes to fill in where the shelves have been taken down.
The builder came round to do some final measurements and he came with his brother this time. They are both really nice guys which is nice as they are going to be pulling our house apart and you need to have confidence in them and not mind them being around for weeks. We have decided to go for paving instead of decking. The main reason being how slippery it gets over here with so much wet weather.
It was a bit of a shock to hear the builder has us pencilled in to start next week! Initially, he had said four weeks. So, Jon really needs to get on with the office as all the contents from the office are in the family room and that needs to be cleared. We also need to go and look at kitchens and decide what we want.
I cooked dinner, spaghetti and I had a small portion and a salad.
We watched some TV, still trying to catch up with all the episodes of Coronation Street that Heather had recorded for us but we have to wait till she is around to watch them with us so it is slow going.
Jane, Heather and Jason have all said they like the villa I have picked out so we just need to hear from Kirsty and James and they we will go ahead and book it.
I can really feel I have done an exercise class now as my legs are very stiff!
An early night tonight as I need to get up earlier in the mornings and get on with things. I have a whole kitchen to pack up by Tuesday. Not sure where we are going to live while this is happening and where is Totty going to spend her days? Watch this space!
TUESDAY
Tuesday morning Jon and I went down to the Leisure Centre and I joined to start with for a month to see how I like the classes and if I think it is worth it I will continue. It is £32 a month so I will need to go to at least three classes a week to make it worthwhile.
We then went into the café at the Leisure Centre and had a surprisingly good flat white and the barista had actually tried and made a good job of it. I must say all the muffins we have had here in the UK are very sweet and I can't eat them.
We then went home and Jon left for lunch with a guy he used to work with in Igrox days.
I went back into Newmarket as I needed to get my mobile sorted at the EE shop and he did it so I can now text at last.
As I came out of the car park I heard someone shout my name and turned to see my friend Kim. She invited me to have a cup of coffee so we went into the Rutland Hotel and had a coffee and a long chat which was very nice.
I then went to buy some sports pants as I only have one pair until the container arrives and I might need them for my classes.
I got home and then started to search on the internet for a villa for our family holiday in September. It took all afternoon but I found two that look interesting so I have emailed them.
I did a bit of ironing but there wasn't much time left after all that searching.
Jon got back and got stuck into preparing the office for painting. We need to get it done before the builders come in so that Jon will have somewhere to work.
With all the lunches, dinners, morning coffee and the San Francisco trip I have put on a few pounds and with all the temptations there are here in UK supermarkets I am finding it hard to control so I decided to go to Slimming World and my first meeting was this evening.
I thought it was only an hour but it turned into two hours! Two hours of my life that I will never get back!!!! If I needed more incentive to lose the pounds then I got it from the class as I really don't want to go more than I have to. Enough said about that!
I had to stay till the end of the class as I had to be weighed and I had told Jon I would be back to cook dinner and it was by now 7.30. I got weighed and quickly got home and Jon was just making dinner - oops!
We had dinner and then watched some TV. Heather came in from London and work about 11.00, very tired and so went to bed.
WEATHER
Tuesday cold and windy 17 degrees
Wednesday sunny spells 20 degrees

Back n the UK
I thought it was about time I started my blog again and hopefully I will catch up with the posts since I left San Francisco!
We woke to another cloudy day this morning, I should be getting used to it by now as it has been pretty much the same since we arrived.
Jon continues with his clearing out and this morning, after our trip to Ikea yesterday to buy a desk, he cleared the office to get it ready for painting. We will need to have the office done so that we can get all the stuff back in before the builders start.
Jon then left to go to Kent for a meeting with a company who he bought the methyl bromide monitors from and sold in NZ.
I intended to go to the Leisure Centre in Newmarket to find out about classes but it was not a very nice morning as it started to rain and I lost the enthusiasm to go out so did some housework instead.
I went across to see Rene, my elderly neighbour, and we had a chat. She is really very good for her age, repeats herself a lot but then I do that and I am 30 years younger than her! I had to run back in the rain as it was now very heavy.
I spent the rest of the afternoon doing odd jobs, phoned the dentist to register, rang to order a new crevice cleaner for the Dyson which we seem to have thrown out in the big clear out! £12 for a new one!
Jane rang me for a chat, it is nice being able to chat to her so much now.
We ordered a halogen oven and it arrived today. I think it will be useful for Jon and I but especially so when we have the kitchen done.
I cooked out dinner in the new oven tonight and it is very easy and I look forward to trying out new recipes.
I really need to get myself organised and start doing some exercise classes and have looked into going to the leisure centre. I will try it out for a month and see how it goes and which classes I like.
It is a cold here during the day when there is no sun and so I have needed the heating on, one of the plus things in the UK - central heating!
Heather is out with her friend tonight celebrating her birthday and then she will be off early in the morning to London so we are not going to see her much over the next few days.
