We have had a lot of rain today with a few sunny spells but very heavy rain off and on all day. The forecast is for sunshine tomorrow - hopefully!
I had a long phone call with Heather this morning about where/when she is going to move. Still nothing sorted but we will get there on day.
Once I got off the phone with Heather, Jane called as she has had her phone line fixed and it is now as clear as a bell so we, too, had a long chat.
After all this chatting it was by now 10.30 so I thought I had better get on with the Monday housework. I cleaned the stainless steel hood above the hob as it has been looking very dusty but it is usually in the evenings when I notice and then I forget to do it. I also gave all the unit doors a good wipe down so we now have one very clean kitchen.
I got on really well with the housework and had vacuumed and washed all the floors by 1.30 so stopped for lunch.
Jon had popped in for a shower after his Pilates class and then went back to work.
I had lunch and then went out to the supermarket to buy a loaf and some tuna. Lions are doing the catering for one of our ladies, mother's funeral tomorrow and I have been asked to help by making some sandwiches. I am not sure how it works really as I have never been asked before. I know the family give a donation to Lions but I am not sure if I have to donate the ingredients, too. I will find out tomorrow.
I went to the post office only to find it had closed down and is being re fitted but not sure if it will be a PO again or a different shop. I will have to go to the one I used to use in Maungatapu.
I got back home and had a cuppa and watched an episode of Doc Martin. As Jon is going away to Australia tomorrow till Friday I will have plenty of time to do the ironing later in the week.
I cooked salmon in white sauce with spinach and pasta for dinner, was for four people but it is enough for six!!
Watched some TV and then went to fold shirts for Jon to pack.
Heather was launching a new app from her company this morning and I logged on and downloaded it but she must have been very busy as she did not come back onto Facebook and I now need to go to bed so will try tomorrow.
WEATHER
Mostly cloudy with heavy showers 19 degrees.

Sunday
What a night last night, the weather was terrible and the wind was as strong as the tornado last week but went on and on all night long!!
This morning when we got up it had quietened down but still windy.
We had our usual cooked breakfast this morning and I put some washing on and did a few bits around the house.
we went out for coffee over to Greerton to see the cherry blossom which is lovely and still, after all the wind, on the trees.
We then went across to the Mount to change the bulbs for the lamps we bought yesterday. the guy in the shop recommended them and when we got home and tried to fit them they were too big!! The lady in the shop changed them and gave us an extra two for out trouble.
We then went home and I took Totty out while Jon changed all the clocks in the house and car to get them all to the correct time.
Apart from hanging out the washing we didn't do anything else but read the papers, very relaxing.
I made a lovely hotpot for dinner tonight which seemed silly as it was still very light when we had dinner - eating our very winter meal!
We watched some TV and I finally updated my iPad to the new whatever number it now is. I had also been reading a UK magazine which recommended two games which I downloaded and had a play on but I never know what I am supposed to be doing and get fed up with them.

Sunny spells with some cloud 17 degrees

Saturday
Lots of wind through the night and once again I woke worried as to how the house could withstand all this wind but it did, again!!
We had breakfast and then sat reading the newspaper online - I read the Mail and Jon reads the Times!!
We went out for coffee and decided, due to the weather, not to go to the Cherry Blossom Festival as it looked too wet and windy. The festival did go ahead but I am past standing in rain and wind to enjoy things. I will go up to Greerton and take photos next week of the cherry blossom!
One of our bedroom lamps has broken and so we went back to the shop today to ask if it could be repaired!!! Silly question!!! It costs more to repair than buy new ones. So, we bought the new ones.
We then went down to the Mount and a travel agent to get a brochure on The Cook Islands as we are planning a trip there for Christmas.
On the way home we went to Nosh and bought some meat and enjoyed a few samples of dips and cheese - I love that shop!
Back home we decided we had enough time to take Totty out before the heavy rain clouds reached us - we just made it back in time!!
The rest of the day, after I had made lunch, was spent reading and chatting about the Cook Islands. It looks so nice. We hope to have three nights in Aitutaki and then four nights in Rarotonga. It is very hard to think about as they are 'the day before' so getting dates sorted is difficult but I will leave it to the agent. I have told him where we want to go and I will let him sort out the details.
After the disappointment of not being able to get to the UK it has given me something to look forward to.
I cooked dinner and we then watched some TV.
Our clocks change tonight so we lose an hour so I really should get to bed now.
Hopefully this wind will have died down tomorrow.

Friday
We woke to a lovely but windy morning but very warm.
Jane called this morning for a quick chat but as he has a problem with her phone line she didn't talk for long but it was nice to catch up.
As soon as I got off the phone from Jane I ate my cereal and then Kirsty rang and we had a chat and a catch up about the non progress of their house purchase. I feel really sorry for them. Buying your first house should not be this stressful but when you are in the hands of a solicitor there is not much you can do and when he goes off on two and a half weeks sick leave it is VERY frustrating for them.
No doubt it will all be sorted out one way or another - eventually.
I then had a mad dash to get ready for work and sent a text to say I was on my way!!
We were busy in the shop today which mad the first half of the morning go over fast but the second half not so fast.
I left on time as Avon Carol was bringing my things round.
I got home and just had time for a couple of Ryvita and she arrived. We had a chat and then she left and I did a few bits around the house before watching Neighbours which is driving me mad as they have been dragging this storyline out for a couple of weeks and they just need to get on with it.
Jon came home and we watched the news and talked about our Christmas plans which we should get booked up before much longer - Cook Islands I think.
We had fish and chips for dinner and that is another week over.
Cherry Blossom Festival tomorrow!!

Sunny and warm 20 degrees

Thursday
I had an appointment to have my hair cut and my eyebrows waxed this morning and arrived, as I thought, on time. Unfortunately, I was half an hour late!! I was supposed to have my brows done at 9.00 and then my hair - oops. Fortunately, they weren't busy so I had my hair done and then my brows. She dropped a blob of wax on my face and so she gave me a complimentary mini manicure and painted my nails!! She can drop a blob of wax on my face every time I go if she wants to!!
When it came to paying my card was declined and I had to use my credit card - how embarrassing! I went round to the bank and as I started to explain she told me the server was down and it was their problem and it would be back running in about an hour or so - phew!
I popped back to the hairdresser to tell them and she said they had another couple so she knew it was not my card.
I went for a coffee and paid cash!! and then went home.
I took Totty out for a walk and it was just as two of the three different rubbish collectors were around but surprisingly she walked - faster than usual but that is fine with me!!
Jon had a letter yesterday with the pre op assessment date so I rang to confirm that. I also rang the secretary to ask if a date had been allocated and explained that I wanted to go to the UK. So far he is not on the lists but he could be any time after his assessment. So, it looks like I won't get to the UK which gives us issues as to what to do about the house when K&J move!!! Suggestions please?? I was really looking forward to my solo trip home :-(
I did a few bits and pieces in the house and made a casserole for Jon's dinner tonight. I have Lions.
I got ready and was about to leave when Jon came home which saved writing down dinner instructions.
Our Lions meeting was good with a good dinner and yummy veg again - pumpkin with a coconut milk sauce, leek and cabbage with bacon - very good.
The quiz I had organised went down very well and all in all it was a good meeting.
I got back and Jon was having trouble with Bertie again tonight. It would be nice to know what upsets him but there is nothing we can pin it down to.

Wednesday
Seems the storm finally blew itself out and we woke to a calm morning but with lots of damage around and about. High tides and winds had caused lots of problems all over the north island but as far as I can see we have no more trees down.
I went into Tauranga to meet some of the ladies from Lions as we were able to pick over the remaining books from the Rotary book sale. There was not a lot there and we only wanted to have the good books as we have enough of our own rubbish.
It didn't take long and then I went down into town for a coffee but resisted the date scone.
I had a wander round the shops and found two pairs of jeans which fit very well and were in the sale.
I passed by the Red Cross to return the hearing aid that one of the ladies had let me borrow for Jon but she is in Australia this week. I will need to catch her next week as she is then off to UK for three months.
I got home and sorted out my washing. The weather did not look good enough to hang it out so I had to put it on the dryers in the garage where it will probably take three days to dry!!
I had lunch and then went over to the book rooms where I sorted yet more magazines but I now feel we are getting there with them and it looks more orderly.
Patricia and I had a mini meeting about the dinner meeting last night and we went through the quiz questions. I hope they all enjoy it.
I went straight home as it had started to rain and was looking very damp.
After feeding Totty I made a cup of tea and then went up to the office to edit the question list and get them copied ready for the meeting tomorrow. It took me ages as I have never worked with PDF before but I think I am up on it all now thanks to the Internet!!
I had just finished when Jon came home from work and I went down to make the dinner.
After dinner I had an email from Heather asking if she could call which she did and we had a nice chat. She is feeling better now and I told her to have some chicken soup and surprise, surprise she did have some in the larder.
Just going to finish my blog and off to bed. Big day tomorrow with the Americas Cup but I have my doubts that NZ can pull it off as USA have done so well over the last few days. Still, fingers crossed they can win.

Tuesday
When I went to bed last night my bedside lamp would not work and we thought it might be the bulb and we didn't have any spare so I used the small desk lamp which is pretty naff so I need to buy some bulbs today.
We woke to grey skies and the forecast was for lots of rain and wind.
The man arrived to cut the trees down just as it was starting to rain. He wasn't impressed that the access was not good and that they would have to carry everything up the garden to get it out. But he got on with it and I went out to my class. When I got home at 11.30 he had gone and everywhere was tidy but due to the heavy rain I have not yet had a chance to go and have a look.
Class was very good thought not many there as I think they might have all stayed home to watch the Americas Cup which is gripping the nation.NZ are making hard work of it and if they lose now it will be such a shame.
I stopped by the supermarket for a few things. Jon is off to Australia next Tuesday and I could, potentially, be off to UK so I don't want to stock up too much.
I was glad to get home and know that I didn't need to go out again and swimming would be cancelled this afternoon.
I changed the bulb in my lamp but it still won't work so I will have to take it to be repaired. Not sure what it is.
The storm came in as forecast with heavy rain and wind and will hopefully pass by the end of the night. I certainly hope we don't have a night like Saturday.
I did some work around the house and then had an email from Heather telling me she had a tummy bug and was up. We spent the next couple of hours emailing on and off when all she really wanted was a cuddle - very hard :-( Hopefully, she will feel better tomorrow.
Jon came home from work but had arranged to have an induction class for Pilates as I think this will be good for him. Just a shame it is a horrible night to go out again.
I sat and waited for him to come home and when he did he was hot and sweaty and needed a shower!!! I don't know anyone who is hot and sweaty after Pilates!! He said he worked as hard as he does at the gym! I don't think I fancy that class or teacher!!
We had dinner and then watched some TV.
I took the electric blanket off the bed this week I am beginning to wish I had left it on!!

Monday
I debated hanging out my washing this morning as it was very grey but thought I would take the chance and I am glad I did as the sun came out and we had a really warm day.
First thing I did this morning once Jon had left for work was dye my hair. I have been putting it off as long as I could just in case I come over to UK but I couldn't leave it any longer.
I did more washing and then started to do my housework but got a little side-tracked as when I went into the garden to throw out some bread I went for a walk around and found a big tree at the bottom had fallen in the wind and was lying across our fence into the neighbours garden. I took some photos and sent them to the agent. She called me later to say they would get a man out to sort it.
I took Totty out for her walk and there were lots of people around taking photos of damage and men chopping trees down.
Once back I went out into the garden again and got a little carried away cutting things back and planting out my horseradish. The trouble with gardening is that you lose track of time and as I felt hungry I went indoors and it was 1.40 and I had been out in the garden for nearly two hours and my back was by now telling me this!! I was also very hot and had to put a short sleeved T shirt on.
I went in for lunch and watched the last episode of Call the Midwife before I got on with the rest of my housework. It is obvious that it is spring as I cleaned the bedroom really well pulling out the bed, dresser and bedside tables not the thing to do after all that gardening really.
I then cleaned our bathroom and got in the shower and gave that a good going over, too.
Once upstairs was cleaned I went and did the downstairs - phew what a day!!
I brought in all my washing and then ironed it all before making up the bed. I felt like I had had a really good day.
Jon came home and we went to look at the fallen tree and found another two! The banana tree is not looking it's best either. There is a lovely perfume in the garden though and I can't find the plant.
Jon helped me bag up all the cuttings from the bird of paradise that I chopped down this morning.
We had a phone call from a tree surgeon to say he will be round in the morning and Jon told him that there was more damage than we had originally thought.
After watching a bit of TV I am more than ready for bed. I would like to sleep properly tonight as Totty had me up last night a couple of times so I am very tired.
The weather forecast says we have another cyclone coming down from the islands so looks like we are in for another dose of rain and wind. What didn't come down on Sunday could well come down tomorrow!!

Sunday
Well, what a night we had, well, more the early morning. the thunder started about 5.00 and was really bad with heavy rain. It seemed to pass over and then came back and passed again and all went quiet and I was just getting back off to sleep when we heard a loud roaring like a train coming through the house. The house shook, as did I, and the dog was barking and it was so scary I thought the roof was going to come off. I debated going downstairs as I thought that would be safe if the roof did come off but then it all passed and it was quiet again and the birds started to sing. The most bizarre thing I have ever experienced.
I woke again at 8.00 and got up and had a look outside and apart from some fallen pot plants on the deck and lots of leaves and rubbish it didn't look too bad.
After I had showered I looked on the local paper's website and was really shocked to see photos of our street, just below our house, and the fire service was there covering the roof as part of it had blown away. There were fallen trees and three trampolines had been flung down the street with two in the harbour! Jon went outside and saw the house opposite had three fence panels down and a big tree. The tree surgeons were out in force. I spoke to more neighbours today than I have in the last ten months!!
As we noted all the devastation we were counting our blessings. There were times through it all that I really thought we would lose the roof as the noise and shaking was terrible, that is what comes of living at the top of a hill and exposed to the weather.
We went out for coffee and drove down the street to have a look and saw lots of fences and trees down and so many people out sweeping up the debris. we were very lucky!
We went for a coffee and to the recycling and then came home and it was, by this time, sunny!!
I got on with making the sandwiches for the afternoon tea and cutting up the fruit cake and finally I warmed the scones just before I left to go to Christine's house as she was the host.
The tea went off very well and everybody had a really good time - 17 of us in total.
I got back at 5.00 and felt really tired. Jon said he would be happy to have pizza and salad and fortunately I had a pizza in the freezer. Jon had also done the cleaning for me while I was out! Well, he used the robotic floor sweeper and cleaned the carpets but it all looked nice when I got home.
We had dinner and then watched some TV.
I thought I ought to call my elderly neighbour as she was expecting us home and I have been putting off calling her as I didn't want to upset her.
As there was no reply I called her sister and had a chat to her and she told me that Rene sometimes doesn't hear the phone so I tried again and she answered. She told me that she has an invitation for Jon and I to her 90th birthday lunch in October. I told her I might be there but I can't promise and I feel so bad as she was really looking forward to us coming back to live in Centre Drive which is now quite a remote possibility. Oh dear life is hard sometimes and you can't please everyone or sometimes anyone!!
Hopefully I can go to bed and sleep tonight although they have forecast more thunder!!!

Cloudy start then sunny and 19 degrees.

Saturday
It was supposed to be sunny today but we had a lot of overnight rain and thunder and lightening but not bad enough to upset Totty thank goodness.
Jon was already up and having breakfast when I woke so after my shower I went downstairs and fed Totty just as Jon told me he had already fed her!! She ate it all like she had not been fed!!
We watched the America's Cup race and Team NZ lost the race so we will have to wait until tomorrow to see how they go. I really hope they haven't lost their confidence and let this slip away.
We went into Tauranga for a coffee and then went to book tickets for the 3.15 showing of Rush.
Back home I made a casserole and put it in the oven for this evening and then we had lunch.
We left for the cinema and really enjoyed the film, noisy but very good.
We got back and had a cuppa and watched the news all very relaxed as I had the dinner ready.
We had dinner and then watched some TV.
I think I am all ready for the afternoon tea party tomorrow with 15 people confirmed so I hope it all goes well.

Friday a very busy day!
Busy morning to start as usual on a Friday. Heather called to have a quick chat and it was quick as I had wet hair that needed to be dried.
After watching the Team NZ race which they lost - they are dragging it out - I left to go to the Red Cross.
We were busy for most of the morning and had two new volunteers in.
I left the shop on time as the man was coming to valet my car and I needed to get home
I had lunch and waited for the man to arrive and although a little late he got stuck in and left my car looking better than it has for a long time.
I spent the afternoon baking another fruit cake and hopefully this one will be good. I then baked some little cupcakes and filled them with chocolate butter icing as I think Jon might be fed up seeing all this baking and none of it was for him!
I then did a lot of ironing and listened to the radio.
Jon came home and I finished the ironing and we watched the news.
Jon went out for our fish and chips and then we watched some TV.

Thursday
It feels like winter is back as it has been so cold the last couple of mornings. We were spoilt last week with the lovely warm, sunny snap let's hope it comes back soon.
I can't believe we are nearly at the end of another week and how fast the time is flying by.
Jon had a meeting down at the port today so didn't need to leave till 8.30.
I had some things to organise for Lions so spent a couple of hours on the computer before going out to do my shopping and to the post office. It looks like I am going to have to post all the stocking fillers I have bought for Heather as there is still no news on K&J's house so I don't think I will fit my trip in before Jon's surgery. We will need to get out thinking caps on as to what we will do.
I got home and had my lunch and did a few things around the house and before I knew it was time to go and see Alison.
We had a nice cuppa and a chat and then I got caught in a lot of traffic getting home. Not sure why it was all so busy as Jon said he was held up, too.
There was a message on the answer phone which I could not understand other than the phone number so I had to call and see who it was. It turned out to be the elderly lady who goes to my keep fit class and lived close to me and I give her a lift sometimes. She is going to Australia tomorrow for four weeks and asked me to check her mail box for junk as she has had her post held till she gets back. I suppose she doesn't want the box to fill up as she lives on the main road. I told her it would not be a problem and I would sort it for her.
The weather has turned very wet and windy tonight and the forecast for the next three days is not good. However, if Team NZ win the Americas Cup the whole of NZ will be celebrating and they have just one more race to wind tomorrow morning.

Wednesday
I woke at 6.30 and thought it was too early to get up - next minute Jon was coming up to have his shower and it was 7.30!!!
I hate it when that happens as I never seem to catch up as the day goes on.
I went down to make his lunch box and then Heather called to say her dentist appointment had gone well and she was fine which made me later getting to the shower. Then the gardener turned up and so it went on.
Once Jon had left for work I went for my shower and I was nearly back on track.
I had left fruit soaking overnight for a cake and so I had to make that. The recipe was from the Nigella Community site but it was not good and very dry so I had to make more tea to loosen it up as the mix was supposed to be like a batter.
I managed to get it in the oven and baked before I had my doctor's appointment and I left it on the side to cool.
I could see the gardener bringing up lots of garden waste but once she had finished I went to have look and you can hardly see where she took it from. I think the owners are going to have to allow her more time now that things are growing again.
I had my appointment with the doctor about my back/side pain and he sent me for an x-ray which I had done after the appointment.
I got home and had time to hang out the washing before going out to meet Diane. I also took my cake out of the tin and was not impressed as it looks very dense and soggy in the middle!
Diane and I had a nice lunch and a long chat. She has just returned from Hawaii and had a lovely time.
From lunch I went across to the book rooms and sorted magazines for the rest of the afternoon.
I popped in to the post office on my way home to post a gift to the UK as I don't think I am going to make it over there now.
The doctor's surgery had left a message on the phone to say my x-ray was clear and the doctor recommends acupuncture to sort out my pain. I will give it a go as I am running out of options.
I cooked a 'cheat's' version of a paella for dinner tonight and it turned out surprisingly well with enough to freeze.
We watched some TV and it looks like an early night again. I am reading a very good book and bedtime is the only time I seem to be able to read these days.

Tuesday
I have been trying to contact a man from police dog handling to arrange a meeting for our Lions group and finally he rang me back this morning. Unfortunately, he can't do the meeting this month but says he would love to come along to a meeting in the New Year!!! Can you believe that, already sorting out for 2014!!!!
I left to go to my keep fit class which once again was very good and we had to open all the doors as we worked so hard and were very hot. I didn't stay for coffee as I needed to get home and ready to go and meet Jon to go for his CT scan.
I had a coffee and changed and got ready to go out again. I drove over to Bayfair and left my car in the car park there (it is free) and Jon came from the office and picked me up.
The drive to Whakatane takes between and hour and a quarter to two hours depending on lorries. We made it to the hospital and were very early but Jon was taken in straight away. Whakatane hospital is old and has lots of small buildings spread out on a large site with lots of building work going on so finding the entrance to actually get in was a major task!!
I settled down with my book to read as the letter had stated the scan would take 40 minutes so I was very surprised when he was out after just fifteen and all finished. We were actually on our way out before we should have gone in.
We won't get the result till they send it to the consultant and they he will phone Jon. Hopefully, it won't be too long.
On our way home we stopped for some lunch. It was about ten to two and here in NZ they are usually closing as most people eat early. Fortunately, they said we could order and we asked for pumpkin soup. It took a very long time to come out considering we were the only ones there and when it did it was not very warm and not very tasty. The garlic toast was sliced French bread that had hardly seen a toaster!! A few mouthfuls was more than enough and we walked out - just as well it didn't cost a lot.
The drive home was good and Jon dropped me off at the car park and he went back to work and picked up a sandwich on the way.
I came home and had some lunch before taking Totty out for her walk.
The new house being built below us is really coming on and they are having the kitchen and bathrooms fitted now. I think I might have to ask if I can look inside one of these days or speak to the new owners when they do move in.
I put some fruit into soak in Earl Grey tea for the Lions afternoon tea on Sunday so I will get that made tomorrow.
I cooked some pork loin for dinner tonight. Jon seems to be able to tolerate pork so we have it more than we used to.
We watched some TV and now it is bedtime again. I have a busy day tomorrow, doctor, lunch with a friend and then sorting books. Not quite sure when I am going to get the cake baked!!

Monday
We had trouble with the internet again last night and even a phone call to Telecom didn't get it sorted so I could not do my blog. Very odd as we have internet on the iPads but not the computer so not sure what is going on.
I went over to meet a friend in Matua today. I have known Joan since we came here but never been to her house. Her husband Dan is now retired and a bit of an artist and she showed me his work which is extremely good and he also does beautiful pottery figures in clay which are amazing, very clever man.
We went for a walk in Fergusson Park which is close to her house and is a walk around the inner harbour and looks towards the Mount so very pretty. We then went for a coffee and spent the rest of the morning giving our jaws a workout. Joan has just come back from visiting her son and family in Canada so a lot to catch up on.
I got home and quickly hung out my washing as it was nearly lunchtime, just as well it was a warm day.
I took Totty out for her walk which was a good one again!
After lunch I spent the rest of the day doing my housework and had just sat down with a cup of tea when Jon came home.
We had dinner, leftover chicken concoction which was very nice and then watched some TV.
I came up to the office to do my blog and then had the problems with the internet. I spoke to a very helpful lady who was somewhere on this planet but I am not sure where. We thought we had it sorted and as soon as I got off the phone it crashed again so I gave up and went to bed!

Sunday
Jon called Kirsty this morning to see how things were going with their house. Unfortunately, they still have no news. It now looks like I won't get up to the UK and we won't get the house up for rent as I need to be back by the end of October for Jon's surgery and if I go later it will not be worth renting out as we may or may not be home in March. It is all such a mess and a shame for them to have had so much trouble.
Life was not meant to be easy!!!
I cooked breakfast after we had spoken to Kirsty but really didn't feel like eating it and feel so bad for their situation.
We went over to Bayfair later for a coffee and a look around the shops but we didn't stay long as there was nothing we needed.
Once home we took Totty out for her walk and then Jon spent some time in the garden.
I baked some scones for the afternoon tea next weekend. I was impressed with one batch I made with lemonade! They rose very nicely. They are all in the freezer now so next is the fruit cake.
I cooked a roast chicken for dinner tonight which was good. We had a bottle of rose wine but all that did was confirm, we already had our suspicions, to us that Berite only likes white wine and there is no getting away from that so Jon's days of a glass of red are gone for good much to his disgust!!

Friday and Saturday
Friday
The usual Friday morning routine and both of us out to work but at least the sun was shinning this morning.
Sharon was off ill and has been ill with flu all week so it was just Les and I. Now that the new stock is in and the shop revamped it was much busier than it has been for the past month which I really like. The shop is now a lot smaller and so the stock has to be put out more often so there is always something to do.
When I finished at 1.00 I walked to my car and I pass the Salvation Army shop and always pop in to see what they have in their bric-a-brac and I found a lovely glass plate that is made here in NZ and cost a lot of money and it was $5!!!! It still has the named label on the back so I know it is genuine and I later saw one in Tauranga for $40 so I got a real bargain and I know somebody who will really like it!!
I then went to collect our tickets for the Grease performance on Saturday night. I also bought a present for Jon's nephew's new baby and posted it so a busy hour!
Once home I had my lunch and took Totty out for a walk.
I had to go over to the dressmaker at Bayfair for 4.30 to collect my trousers and nearly missed it as I was not watching the time!
I rang Sharon and we had a chat and she sounds very blocked up but says she is getting better.
Jon came home and we watched the news and then he went out for our fish and chips.
I rang my friend in the UK and we had a long chat and when I finished I was going to do my blog but the Internet was down and I couldn't be bothered doing the switching off of the modem etc. so just went to bed.

Saturday
I had a lie in this morning and it was 8.00 before I woke. I have been waking with a headache for a few mornings now and I think it is the way I sleep so will have to change my pillow I think.
After breakfast I went on the computer as I had some things to organise for Lions.
We went over to Bayfair for a coffee and then to the supermarket. We also got a key cut to hide as we both worry that one day we will get locked out and not be able to get in as sometimes the wind blows the doors shut and I always put the mop in the back doorway when I hang out the washing in case it closes as it once did but fortunately, Jon was in.
We got home and had some lunch and as I still had a bad head I just sat on the sofa and read.
We took Totty out for her walk and she walked fine today although we nearly got blown away with the wind..
We left to go out for dinner at 6.00 and had a lovely meal at the Phoenix before going over to the theatre.
I got chatting to the lady next to me and would you believe she used to be the neighbour of one of my friends here in Tauranga. It is a small world.
The show was OK a bit rough round the edges but it was only the second night and I am sure it will get better but the music was good.
We got back and Totty had done a wee on the carpet so I had to clean that up before going to bed so she is in my bad books now.

Thursday
We woke to rain and we are going to bed with rain - the weather men got it right today!!
At least we haven't had it as bad as the south or the east with the really bad storms so we should be grateful. There is a slip on a main road in the south island and the only detour is 11,000 kms!!! That is some detour!
Jon left for work and I was waiting and hoping for a break in the rain to get the bin out but it didn't come so I had to put on my boots and raincoat and take it out. But at least I only had one bin the poor bin men had the whole area to do.
I spent the morning doing my ironing and listening to the radio so not a wasted day.
I watched some of the Mr Selfridge episodes I had backed up which was nice to see them all one after the other.
I went for a Vibra Train session this afternoon. I bought them on Grab One and went for my first of four sessions today. It is a very odd sensation and once these are over I am not sure I would go for more but if it works miracles and removes the bulges maybe I will!!
I took a curry from the freezer for dinner as I had my Lions business meeting to go to I ate early and left Jon to warm his up. But hurray! the last of the cheesecake went tonight!! Six nights!!
The business meeting was good and busy. I am helping to arrange an English afternoon tea to be held next Sunday and is a cold coin donation for Alzheimer's Society. I am also helping with the planning of a country fare. Not sure if that will happen we have to look into it.
I got back just after nine and had a coffee and sent a few emails as we are trying to get a speaker for our next meeting as the one we had has dropped out so I need to get a move on as it is the week after next!!

Wet all day 17 degrees

Wednesday
Not much doing today really.
I took some trousers over to the dressmaker this morning to have them shortened. I am missing the clothes I left in the UK when we were over in May. We left a lot there as we thought we were going back and now I could do with my jeans particularly.
I decided to have a coffee while I was out even though it was early.
I got back and made a Weightwatchers biscuit recipe but the amount of cranberries in the recipe was too many and they fell out so it was a waste. I would make them again but with less cranberries. I also made a rhubarb cake and some baked rhubarb with orange juice to have for breakfast.
I tried to take Totty out and she was unbelievably bad today and would not walk down the road so we went home as I feel stupid 'dragging' her down the street.
I had my lunch and then went over to Bethlehem to the book rooms. I was helping with the magazines again there are soooo many. It is amazing the combinations of 'house, home garden and beautiful' you can get for the titles.
We had afternoon tea but I was a good girl today and resisted apart from a cup of tea.
I got back home and fed Totty and watched Neighbours before cooking dinner. We had Israeli couscous tonight cooked with leek and then fried chicken with cumin seeds which was all very nice. We are still eating the cheesecake that I made at the weekend - very good value.
The weather has been really bad in Christchurch with gale force winds causing a lot of damage. It is moving up the country and will hit us tomorrow but not as bad as they had today so I think I might stay indoors tomorrow.
WEATHER
Cloudy with sunny spells 18 degrees

Tuesday
The forecast is for bad weather but so far we have not seen any and we woke to another lovely sunny morning.
Always a busy morning on a Tuesday as I go out to my class at 9.00.
The traffic was particularly bad this morning going down the hill into Tauranga and eventually I saw why. A man on a scooter had been knocked off by a car and everyone was watching as they went past even though it was all pulled to the side and nothing much to see. The guy was taken to hospital but is not badly injured.
I got to my class and paid for my next ten classes. The last lot I paid for I didn't think I would use them all and now here we are paying for another lot of ten - funny old life.
The class was very good and we had to have all the doors open as it was so warm. We did lots of work holding a ball with both hands to strengthen our core - I think it did more damage to our arms!!
I stayed for a coffee and a chat and then left to go home.
I stopped at the supermarket to buy some coconut oil as I am told it is very good and you can use it for just about anything frying, roasting, baking use it on bread as a spread and it is very low in pretty much everything. It looks like lard but not so dense and has a slight coconut flavour so I will give it a go.
I must say I am not good at allocating my time when I have too much of it and work better under pressure not that I have much of that so once home and after walking Totty which took forever as she was in one of her 'I'm not going to walk' moods today, I read my magazine and looked at the recipes and generally didn't do very much and before I knew it was lunch time!!
I left to meet Carol for a cuppa down at the Mount main beach before my aqua class.
We were able to sit outside in the sun and it was lovely and warm and we had a catch up.
I then went to my class and as the sun is now low in the sky it is always behind the Mount and the pool in the shade at this time of year so today with a cold wind blowing it was very cold getting into the pool so for the first half of the class we didn't lift our arms out of the water but we did soon warm up.
After the class I had a swim just to put off getting out of the warm pool and waking to the changing rooms!
I drove home and had a cup of mint tea and fed Totty.
Jon came home and I started to cook the dinner.
After dinner we watched a bit of TV and then read my book.
I am putting off ringing my neighbour Rene as I know she is going to be upset that we are not coming home. I keep waiting for news from Kirsty so that at least I can soften the blow and tell her I will be home for a few weeks to see her. I am being a coward!!

Monday
Jon was up early this morning to watch the Grand Prix.
I got up and showered and then made his sandwich etc. I had run out of bananas so I peeled him a Satsuma and wrapped it in cling wrap just like I used to do for the girls when they were little!!!
Jon left for work and I decided to go for a walk on my own as Totty slows me down. I headed out up the street to the part I never walk in and hoped there were no dogs out. Unfortunately, there was one and although he is big and friendly he decided to follow me and thought it was a big game when I told him to go back. I got to the end of the street and wanted to cross the road which is quite busy and he decided he was going to cross, too. It had to be just as the lights at the top had changed and lots of cars were coming down. They all slowed down for him as he stood on the other side of the road looking at me!! I was trying to ignore him. One man shouted out to me 'haven't you heard of a lead'. I shouted back he was nothing to do with me.
Once the traffic had gone I called him back and started to walk back to our street and he followed and carried on down. Once I felt it was safe I turned and carried on with my walk and fortunately he didn't follow.
I walked all the way to Maungatapu (where we used to live) and back again. It was a bit windy but very warm.
Once home I got Totty on her lead and set off down the street to do the usual walk with her.
The new house which is being built below ours has a contractor there and he has a little dog which is usually tied up but not today!! It wasn't a good day for me and dogs. This little thing came running down towards us and Totty went mad at it. Fortunately I managed to keep them apart till they had both calmed down and I chased that one away and carried on - phew what a walk.
Once back I made my shopping list and found my sister in laws birthday card which should have been posted last week still in my bag!! Her birthday is tomorrow.
I went to the post office and posted the card and one for my brother in law and then to the supermarket.
Back home it was lunchtime and I was really hungry.
I watched an episode of Neighbours and one of Call the Midwife before I got back to my housework and a bit of ironing.
Jon came home and watched the rest of the Grand Prix and I made dinner

Sunday
Jon was up early this morning to watch the F1 qualifying and so I had a lie in.
Once up I cooked us some bacon and scrambles eggs for breakfast - weekend treat!
We pottered around doing odd jobs and then went over to Bayfair to have a coffee and a muffin. As it as so windy we went to a place in the mall called Muffin Break and they do the most wonderful selection of fresh muffins and really good coffee. Jon chose a large which comes in a bowl!! The trouble is it has no handles and so he can't lift it as it is too hot!!!
We had nothing else to do so went home and took Totty out for her walk. After 'dragging' her down the hill she finally realised she had to walk and was fine for the rest of the walk.
We had some pictures and the canvas of Jane and Jason's wedding to hang so we spent some time sorting them out and then Jon hung them all.
We had lunch and I did some hand washing and sorted out the garage which had lots and lots of spiders in - the time of year for them!
I cooked some chicken for out dinner tonight and then we watched some TV.
Another weekend over!!

Saturday
We both woke at the normal time this morning which is annoying as we could have had a lie in!
I needed to cook the pork as it takes 8-9 hours so I got that into the oven.
Jane called and we had a long chat with her - nearly two hours but it was nice to catch up.
We went out for coffee and my first proper drive in our new car and it is very nice.
We went to Bay Central shopping area and went for a coffee and scone first before going to look at chairs in the local shop.
I want a small armchair to have in the dinning area as it is so warm and sunny in the mornings and I only have the dinning room table to sit at.
We didn't find anything in Bay Central so went across to Bayfair and had a look around but no joy.
We then drove to Fraser Cove and a furniture shop had just what I wanted and it was in a sale so a good price, too. The man put it in our car and we drove home for lunch.
The house smelt of roasting pork and it was so good.
The chair is a perfect match with the curtains and looks really good.
Jon has his appointment through for his CT scan on 17 September but it is in Whakatane - 90 minutes away! We are going to ask if we can change it to Tauranga but if it is going to be a long wait we will drive to Whakatane.
After lunch I did a few chores and Jon read the manual about his car and found out he does have an MP3 docking socket!
I made an Oreo cheesecake which looks very nice but probably a million calories!!
I finally took the pork out and made a guacamole dip and we had the pork with tortilla wraps and salad and it was very good but we have enough to last us the whole week!
We watched some TV and now it is time for bed again.

Friday
Up and ready bright and early and managed to hang out the washing and walk the dog all before I left for the shop!
Now that we have new stock in the shop is much busier so we were non stop this morning which is nice to see.
I went across for out coffee as the phone at the café was engaged all the time. I should have looked properly before I crossed the busy street as the café was closed due to a family funeral!
I went to the café along the street which we don't like much but we need our coffee. They have a new owner who is English but the coffee is still not the best.
I was not feeling the best today and felt very light headed and just out of sorts. There was a cold wind blowing in through the shop doors and I had to wear my coat as I felt so cold.
I was glad when it was 1.00 and time to leave.
I had intended to take some jeans to be shortened but decided to go and buy Jon's orange juice and then straight home.
Once home I had my lunch and then just sat and watched TV till Jon came home which was early for him but he said everyone was going and he would be left and as he has no key he had to leave, too.
I was by now feeling better and later Jon went out for our fish and chips which was very good tonight.
Early night for me so after putting the pork joint into the marinade I went to bed.

Thursday
The forecast was for rain but we woke to a warm and sunny morning and not too bad a day considering the forecast!
I left to take my car in for it's WOF (Warrant of Fitness (MOT) which was due a few days ago so I thought I had better get it done.
I left the car and went round to a café I know of but have never been to. I had a coffee and a scone, I had not had any breakfast, and it was very good.
I returned to collect my car and it was all done and had passed for another six months.
I left there and went down to the Red Cross to speak to one of the ladies who works on a Thursday as she bought some good hearing aids and I wanted to ask her about them.
She said she was pleased with them and had a spare new one that Jon could try so I arranged to call by her house to pick it up later on.
I left the shop and went to look for some jeans as I left two pairs in UK and I really could do with them now. I think I must have tried on ten pairs before I finally got a pair that fitted reasonably well and did not expose all my bottom! I will need to get them shortened though.
I then went to the supermarket again. I seem to have been there a lot this last week as I had run everything down in the larder so need to stock up again for a few months.
After the supermarket I went to see Myra and she talked me through the hearing aid and told me what to do with it and also gave me the phone number of the supplier. I had a nice chat with her. She is a typical Kiwi in that her children all live overseas and it is all so matter of fact with them. I know it is not something I would get used to if I knew we were here forever as much as I love it her I do want to go home.
I got home and I was starving as it was so late so had my lunch.
I haven't done any baking today as I have cake in the freezer that needs to be used.
I took Totty out for her walk but we didn't manage to get all the way around as she was not in a walking mood today!
I watched an episode of Neighbours which is dragging the story out a bit at the moment and I also watched One Born Every Minute about a baby who was born with her bowel outside her stomach and it was so sad but she was alright in the end.
I did some ironing and sorted out some old clothes to go 'back' to the Red Cross tomorrow!
Jon came home and I made the dinner - fish tonight with parsley mash yummy!
I am still keeping a food diary for Jon and it seems like beef is the only thing that has upset him so far this week.
We watched some TV and I managed to stay awake.
Off to bed now for an early night as I know I will be tired after all morning on my feet tomorrow.

Wednesday
Jon was up very early this morning and Heather called and managed to have a chat with him before he went to work.
Once he had left I had a chat to Heather which will be the last one before she goes on holiday this weekend but not before she has been down to Brighton for a hen party. Oh to be young and single!
I was due over at Bronwyn's for coffee so had to get a move on.
When I arrived Bronwyn was on Skype to her granddaughter who is like a little china doll with lots of curly hair but she went very shy once I came in.
We had coffee sitting out on the deck and it was really warm.
Jon rang me to say he was test driving a car and where was I so that I could have a look. He brought it round to Bronwyn's house and we had a drive up the road. It is a Lancer and only has 18,000km on the clock, still in warranty and is very nice.
It seems the only other car the company have and are willing to provide at the moment is an old Mazda so between that or the ute we would not get out much at the weekends so we decided to buy our own and claim mileage. Buying the Lancer if we have it for six months it shouldn't lose too much so we went for it and Jon got a bit more off so he is now happy.
I eventually left Bronwyn's to come home with another big bag of grapefruit so I think I might make some marmalade as we are staying!
I didn't have much time as I was due at the book rooms so I quickly hung out my washing which I should have done earlier and then had some lunch.
By the time I had done all my bits and was about to go out I could see rain coming over from the hills so had to bring my washing in again and hang it in the garage - what a waste of time!
When I got to the book rooms I told the ladies I was staying and they were all very pleased.
I spent the rest of the afternoon sorting out boxes to put the ever increasing supplies of magazines into ready for the sale. We also had to clear a space for the records so a lot of lifting.
I left to go to the post office and then the supermarket and was annoyed as I had forgotten my list!
By the time I got home the rain was starting to fall and was quite heavy with very grey skies.
Jon came home and is happy with the car amazing how fast they sorted it out.
We had dinner and I fell asleep in front of the TV again. You can tell I am back to doing all my activities again as I had stopped sleeping in front of the TV when Jon was not working and I was not doing so much.
When it came to bedtime I was wide awake and so I took the opportunity to phone my sister as I haven't spoken to her for a very long time. We talked till after midnight but I thought I ought to get my blog done but now I need to go to bed!

When it came to bedtime I was wide awake and so I took the opportunity to phone my sister as I haven't spoken to her for a very long time. We talked till after midnight but I thought I ought to get my blog done but now I need to go to bed!

What a day I have had today!!
Jon left for work in his tank - it really is very noisy. Just as well he is deaf or he would need ear protectors!!
Due to the clear sky it was very cold this morning first thing.
I had a phone call from Heather and we had a catch up before I needed to go out to my keep fit class.
It was really warm this morning in the class and we worked very hard and she seems to have stopped us having so many breaks which, as far as I am concerned, is a good thing.
We had a cup of coffee after the class and all the ladies were very happy for me that we are staying.
I left to go home and make my lunch and collect Totty and then went out to meet all the keep fit ladies from today's class and the other classes that Diane teaches. We met at Te Puna Quarry Park and most of the ladies were having lunch when I arrived but 12.00 is too early for me so I waited till they had finished and then we went for our walk around and up to the top of the park. Spring is a lovely time of year there as the orchids are beautiful.
Totty really enjoyed her walk and got to the top with no problem though she was very tired and happy to sit in the car with all the windows open once we got back.
Once back to the car park I sat with some of the ladies who had not eaten earlier and we had lunch. It was so warm sitting in the sun and we all caught our first rays for this season. I am now quite pink!
I left and drove home at 2.00 and Totty was so well behaved on the way home as she was tired.
I quickly cooked a spaghetti sauce and had a cuppa before getting ready to go to my aqua aerobics class. I did think maybe I would stay home but forced myself out of the door.
Carla was back from Brazil and looks very well and we had a good class and the water was very warm this week.
I didn't stay for a dip in the hotter pools but showered and went home.
Jon was already home and the 'bus' was parked outside. It seems they only have one other fleet car which is in Auckland so not sure what he will do as he doesn't ant to drive around in the ute and we certainly would not be going out in it at the weekends so maybe we will have to buy a car ourselves and they can come to an arrangement for petrol.
Genera has found out he is working for NZL and the 'boss' is not very happy but as Jon said if you give me a great big, noisy vehicle with NZL written on the side in green what do they expect. He is well known around here and particularly where the office is so somebody was bound to see him and Tauranga is not that big. So, we will see what happens but I am sure there are some very nervous people around now.
I was so tired this evening and was glad I had the dinner ready and only had to cook pasta and make a salad.
We watched some TV and I fell asleep which was only to be expected. Still, I feel very good for doing all the exercise but not so much tomorrow.
Off to bed now for an early night and it is not even 11.00 yet!!

Monday
It was like the new boy going to a new school this morning with Jon starting his new job! We were both up early as I needed to take him into the office so we were ready and left at 8.00.
After I dropped him off I went down to the beach and had a lovely, brisk 40 minute walk. There were not many people around and the tide was out so I could really stride out along the hard sand - walking on the soft sand really hurts my legs!
I got back to my starting point and went to buy a coffee and it was still only 9.00! I sat looking over the beach and watched the world go by and it was such a lovely morning.
Once back home I hung out my washing before taking Totty for a walk. She must have liked the warm weather, too as she was no problem today and walked all the way without having to be pulled.
I started to do some clearing out of stuff that we had collected on our travels and not done anything with. I found all the magnets we bought from the South Island, Thailand and Australia and put them all on the fridge. I really don't want to count how many we have now as it probably means we have spent a lot of money on them! The doors of the fridge and freezer in the garage are pretty much full and now I have started on the side of the fridge. I am not sure what we will do with them all once we do finally leave here.
I got all my housework done and even sat and watched Neighbours and caught up again!
I ironed the sheets and made up the bed and then Jon came home - I could hear him before he came in as he is now driving the biggest, noisiest ute I have ever seen/heard! And he hates it. I hope they sort out a car for him soon or he will not be happy. He says it rolls around and makes him feel ill. If he has to drive any distance in it he won't be pleased. Fingers crossed they keep to their word but I have my doubts.
We had dinner and then watched TV.
Bertie has been really bad tonight so I just hope he is now settled and Jon can get to sleep.
I have started to keep a chart of what we eat and make remarks on it as otherwise we tend to forget what upsets Bertie until the next time. We only had a beef casserole tonight which only had onion, carrot and celery in it and he has been able to tolerate all of that. We have had our doubts about steak as that upsets him but I thought in a casserole it would be OK. Unfortunately, I will have to make another one and try it again just to make sure but I will leave it a few weeks.
Well it is bedtime again so I am off to my cosy clean bed, I wish I could have clean sheets every day and not just once a week!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday!
Well, I have a bit of catching up to do!!
FRIDAY
Kirsty called just as I was about to leave for work and so I had a very quick word with her and then passed her over to Jon.
I left to go to the shop and when I arrived it was closed and had been for most of the week due to the builders being in and sorting out the new processing centre. The annual sale had only been on for two days as it was considered better to close the shop and do the building work and the changeover to summer stock all at the same time. I walked into a shambles with boxes everywhere.
Sharon and I got stuck in and started putting out summer stock and the morning flew by. I decided to stay on longer and bought a sandwich for my lunch to have there and then go straight to the hospital to meet Jon for his appointment at 3.00.
Jon went down to the Mount and had a coffee and his usual walk before going home. He left later to go for lunch and then to a meeting with his new boss to discuss his contract.
I left the shop and went to the hospital and arrived just as Jon was being called in and he was looking out for me. The meeting with the surgeon went well and he says he will do the next surgery in another two months time. He said it will be a bigger operation than the last one as he will need to open him up more. Although this is potentially more serious he said he needs to do it this way to get a better result.
He gave Jon a form to have his next blood test and also sent off a form for a CT scan to make sure his liver is still clear - this is usual after twelve months. Hopefully, he won't need a drain this time and will only be in hospital for two nights and then should be able to work from home till he is well.
We went straight home and I had a cup of tea but felt very tired after my busy day.
I had arranged to pick up Sharon and Margaret to go to see Tarnished Frocks and Divas. This show is put on every two years in aid of breast cancer and my friend Bronwyn is the stage manager. This years show was better than ever and instead of the usual three or four performances they were doing seven shows.
We met up with Les and Fiona at the arena and had a drink before taking our seats.
The show was amazing and we all had a great time.
I got home about 10-.30 and was very tired which is why I didn't do my blog.
SATURDAY
I was due to go and have a walk around the Mount with the Lions ladies this morning but as I had not spoken to Kirsty yesterday she called this morning and we had a long chat which made it too late to go for my walk.
Kirsty and James are having big problems with sorting out the house and it is now 11 weeks and things should be sorted but they aren't due to some issues with the roof tiles not being correct. Top and bottom of it is it is all in the hands of the insurance company as to if the builder has to pay for the new roof or the insurance and it could go on for a long time. Her solicitor won't let them sign till it is sorted but by the sound of it the seller is getting fed up and would pull out which would be a disaster for them. So, watch this space!!
Once off the phone Jon and I went to Bayfair as he wanted to get his car valeted ready to go back to Genera tomorrow. We went and had a coffee and then a wander round the shops and did our supermarket shop by which time the car was ready and looked very nice - never let it be said we gave it back in a state!!! (This had been suggested that we would do!!)
We went home and had lunch and took Totty for a walk.
In the afternoon we went and bought a new rug, the same as the one we have in the lounge, to go in the dinning room and it looks very nice.
Jon's new office is near the DIY store and he showed me the car he is to have and it is a ute and he really hates utes. He has been told it is only for now and they will get him a 'proper' car!! I said I would buy him a little plastic stool which he can put on a rope so that he can get in and out!! Not impressed!!
We got home and I prepared dinner - lamb shanks. I found a potato ricer in the sale and so we had some very nice mashed potato for dinner.
SUNDAY Kiwi Father's Day and first day of spring!
What a lovely morning we woke to, sunny and warm.
We had decided to go out for breakfast this morning and we went to one of our favourite places out near Bethlehem.
We both had eggs Benedict and they were they best I have had. Served on a muffin with lovely bacon, tomato and avocado and a dollop of mint pesto so good!! The sunshine also helped.
We then went home and I finally managed to catch up with my ironing but will be back to square one when I bring my two loads of washing in!!
Jon went into the garden and did some pottering and general tidying up. I had to tell him not to do too much as he can get carried away and will then pay for it as he is still not up to his full strength.
We had to take the car over to Mike's house today and leave it there and one of the Greenwood family will collect it (they live just down the road). It was a good plan as Jon really didn't want to see any of them to speak to. I am glad it is gone, though I will miss it as it was a lovely car, but now we have nothing more to do with them. We would love to be a fly on the wall when they learn we are not leaving!!!
We got home and had a cuppa and I then prepared dinner. I also made a casserole for tomorrow. I need to get some meals in the freezer for Jon to have when I go to UK. He is capable of cooking for himself but it would be good if I can get some ready for him if he is tired.
We ate dinner and then watched some TV and I thought I really ought to get my blog done.
