I am not sure where the TV take the weather reading from for Tauranga but today they say it was 23, Jon's car was reading 25 this morning and it was much hotter later on in the afternoon!
I was woken so many times last night by a loud beeping but couldn't find where it was coming from as every time I got up to look the noise stopped. That was until 4.00 this morning when it started again and I went to investigate and it was one of the smoke detectors in the dinning room. Unfortunately, it was too high for me to reach so I couldn't do anything about it and had to go back to bed. Jon being deaf seemed not to notice and didn't get up - deafness has its compensations!!!
By 7.30 I was going out of my mind so got up and got the little ladder and the hose for the vacuum cleaner and managed to give it a bang and it stopped - peace!!
As I was now wide awake and couldn't go back to sleep I got up and had a shower. When I went downstairs the alarm started again so I think the ladder and hose will be hanging around for a while.
Jon got up and shower and then Heather called and we had a chat to her, it is the first time she has been able to call since she got home as she has been working a lot so it was nice to catch up.
I then cooked breakfast and the alarm went off another couple of times. We got our longest ladder out and leaned it against the wall and Jon could just about reach but as it is so stiff he can't get a grip on it without leaning further forward and it looks pretty dangerous so we had to leave it.
I emailed the agent to ask if they have a maintenance man but I got an out of office reply so I will have to give them a call in the morning.
We went out for a coffee to a nice little garden centre and sat in the sun and had a scone and watched the world go by.
We drove home and when we got there we could hear the alarm going off again and we were outside!! When we got in the dog was going crazy poor little thing.
When the alarm went off for about the sixth time I was angry, the dog was going crazy every time as the pitch is so loud for her, I got the broom and climbed the ladder and gave it a really good and hard bash, it is now nearly bedtime and it hasn't done it again.
The rest of the day we haven't done much really. Jon booked our tickets for the 20/20 cricket England v NZ which is on in Auckland the night before we go to Norfolk Island which is good so we look forward to that.
We were thinking of going right up to the top of NZ, Cape Reinga and 90 Mile Beach for Easter and Jon had asked me to sort out a route as we will need to book accommodation. It took a long time and at last I decided it was going to be too far to go in just four days and we would be very rushed and not see everything. I have now planned for us to go north of Auckland to the west coast which is called the Kauri Coast (Kauri are huge trees that covered NZ years ago but most were cut down for timber and so not many left). There is a lot to see there and then we will cross to the east coast and stay in Whangarei for two nights and have a look around that area before driving home on the Monday. I don't know how Jon is going to feel and I think going right to the top of NZ might be too tiring for him over so few days. We decided we could fly up there for a weekend at a later date when we can get some cheap flights if there are such a thing in NZ.
So it is all sorted now and Jon has booked the hotels. We will be leaving a year to the day that Jon was diagnosed with cancer, amazing how much happens in a year.
We had a bbq for dinner and sat outside as it was still lovely and warm. The forecast is for settled weather for the rest of the week.
We watched an episode of Silent Witness which we recorded months ago. I hate the way they play loud music in the background of dramatic scenes, we need the TV loud for Jon but it hurts my ears when it is so loud. I think I might have to start using earplugs! And why do they have to show such graphic details in this programme, I had to keep closing my eyes!!
Well bedtime now and I hope the alarm behaves!!
WEATHER
Sunny and warm 23 degrees.
