We woke to light cloud this morning and I have to say it made a welcome change. The grass around is now completely gone and there are no green fields about. We are having the best summer for two years.
I was up later than Jon this morning and enjoyed my extra half hour.
After my shower and whilst looking for a T shirt I decided all my tops were untidy so started to tidy them up on the shelf. I left them in the middle as I wanted to call my sister before it got too late. We spoke for a very long time and once off the phone, at 10.30, I then had to have my breakfast and finish what I had started!
I expected the man to come and cut the grass today and so left the gate open for him but he didn't turn up. He will have to open it himself if he comes tomorrow as I will be out.
I went across to Bayfair to take our battery powered pepper mill back that we bought just after Christmas as it won't grind the pepper. The salt mill works fine but we can't get the pepper mill to work. The shop gave me another and since getting home and trying it out I can't get that to work either. Next step will be a call to Breville to see where I am going wrong!!
I then went to the shop where I bought my sunglasses as one of the arms is very stiff and they have a 12 month guarantee. The lady loosened the screw at the side and now they are fine.
I then did a bit of food shopping before going home and had a bit of lunch. Really trying to cut down as I have put on too many pounds since Christmas and need to get them off before it goes too far.
I have bad sciatica in my leg and intended to do my ironing this afternoon but couldn't stand for that long and it was very hot.
I went into the garden to sort out my herb troughs and I picked lots and lots of parsley and then didn't know what to do with it all so hit the Google button.
I made some very nice parsley pesto using almonds and I topped chicken breasts with it and baked them for dinner. I then made Tabouleh (not sure how it is pronounced) something I had many years ago but have never had enough parsley to make myself. It was very nice and we had it with our chicken along with some cauliflower pure. I am trying to get a little more variety into our meals.
Jon came home from work early and looked very tired. I made him a cup of tea and he sat reading his online paper and before I knew it he was fast asleep and had a good 45 minutes so must have needed it.
After dinner we watched Coronation Street and now my blog and hopefully I can have that early night I keep promising myself. I read somewhere that you should get to bed by 10.00 as sleeping then is more beneficial to you. I have yet to find out.

Cloudy start then sunny 25 degrees.

Two films in one day!
Another lovely sunny day today and it was nice to wake up this morning to my alarm clock and not the smoke alarm!
The electrician arrived at 8.30 and with the help of a very long ladder took the smoke alarm down and had a look at it. He said it might be just the battery so I asked him to swap it with the alarm that I can reach and put the other one back to the 'high spot'. At least if it goes off I can get to it. It hasn't gone off so far today so fingers crossed - I seem to do that a lot.
I left to collect Margaret and we drove into Tauranga and bought our tickets to Life of Pi. There were not many people in the cinema but it was 10.00 in the morning so maybe a little early.
I really enjoyed the film and cried a lot but it was really good.
We came out and went to do a few bank things in Tauranga before going to have some lunch and a coffee. We sat outside and we had to ask for a sunshade to be put up as it was just too hot. I had a very nice broccoli and blue cheese quiche.
I got home and was happy to see my photo book had arrived and it is very nice. There are a few things in which I should have done differently but I will know for the next one.
Jon came home early and had a cup of tea and got changed, it was really hot this afternoon. Jon brought home an email with our flights for the UK. They all seem to be OK and so he will confirm them with the agent tomorrow. We will arrive in UK on 10 May and leave on 26 May and we have four days in Chang Mai on the way and one night in Bangkok on the way back. We now need to plan what we will do in Chang Mai apart from the elephant sanctuary I haven't checked much out yet.
We left to go to the cinema at 5.30. Skyfall is now on the last days so not much choice of times and Jon can't do late films as he can't stay awake.
I really enjoyed Skyfall, one of the better Bond films I thought. I was very surprised to see that M died at the end. I hadn't read anything about it in the press and was surprised.
We left and picked up some food on the way back, Jon had a Burger Fuel and I had a lamb Pita Pit salad.
Got home and watched some TV and now it is bedtime again.

A very energetic day.
The smoke alarm went off four times last night but stopped just as I got out of bed!
Waking up so many times I was tired this morning and didn't her Jon get up for breakfast and only heard him when he came back up for a shower. I hate doing that as it makes me late!!
Jon left for work and I got ready for my keep fit class and left the house and as the house was nice and cool it was a bit of a shock to get out into the sun as it was already very warm.
The class was really good and we worked hard but not as hard as last week. Our teacher is off to the south of NZ next week to take part in a sports competition so there will be no class. Ros and I are going to meet at 9.00 anyway and walk around the Mount so I will still get my exercise.
I left the class and went to collect Jon's prescription before going to buy bread and fruit at the supermarket.
I got home and did a few jobs around the house and phoned to agent to ask if somebody could come and sort out the smoke alarm. She is going to get someone to call me. I then had a quick lunch before going out to my Pilate's class. There were only two of us today and it was a good class.
When I got home I decided to wash my car as it was so dirty. I was a bit nervous as the car porch leads into the garage and I didn't want all the water to run into the garage so had to be careful.
So nice clean car and it was now time to go to my aqua aerobics class. I had to make sure I put plenty of cream on as it was very warm. We had a really good class but Monica, one of the ladies I am friendly with, arrived late and said she had had a funny turn driving to the class and had been dizzy and everything went black. I told her she shouldn't really be in the pool and not to push herself. After a few minutes she got out and said she would pop into the doctor on the way home and have her blood pressure checked.
I got back home and Jon was already home and I started the dinner. Jon watered the plants and we had dinner. The electrician rang and will call round at 8.30 in the morning so hopefully the alarm will behave tonight. I am so tired with all my exercise I need my sleep!!
I rang Margaret and we are going to see the Life of Pi tomorrow and Jon and I are going to see Skyfall in the evening. I will have square eyes. We want to see the Hobbit but it is showing at very odd times so we may have missed our chance.

Warm and sunny 24 degrees.

Smoke detector!!!!
I am not sure where the TV take the weather reading from for Tauranga but today they say it was 23, Jon's car was reading 25 this morning and it was much hotter later on in the afternoon!
I was woken so many times last night by a loud beeping but couldn't find where it was coming from as every time I got up to look the noise stopped. That was until 4.00 this morning when it started again and I went to investigate and it was one of the smoke detectors in the dinning room. Unfortunately, it was too high for me to reach so I couldn't do anything about it and had to go back to bed. Jon being deaf seemed not to notice and didn't get up - deafness has its compensations!!!
By 7.30 I was going out of my mind so got up and got the little ladder and the hose for the vacuum cleaner and managed to give it a bang and it stopped - peace!!
As I was now wide awake and couldn't go back to sleep I got up and had a shower. When I went downstairs the alarm started again so I think the ladder and hose will be hanging around for a while.
Jon got up and shower and then Heather called and we had a chat to her, it is the first time she has been able to call since she got home as she has been working a lot so it was nice to catch up.
I then cooked breakfast and the alarm went off another couple of times. We got our longest ladder out and leaned it against the wall and Jon could just about reach but as it is so stiff he can't get a grip on it without leaning further forward and it looks pretty dangerous so we had to leave it.
I emailed the agent to ask if they have a maintenance man but I got an out of office reply so I will have to give them a call in the morning.
We went out for a coffee to a nice little garden centre and sat in the sun and had a scone and watched the world go by.
We drove home and when we got there we could hear the alarm going off again and we were outside!! When we got in the dog was going crazy poor little thing.
When the alarm went off for about the sixth time I was angry, the dog was going crazy every time as the pitch is so loud for her, I got the broom and climbed the ladder and gave it a really good and hard bash, it is now nearly bedtime and it hasn't done it again.
The rest of the day we haven't done much really. Jon booked our tickets for the 20/20 cricket England v NZ which is on in Auckland the night before we go to Norfolk Island which is good so we look forward to that.
We were thinking of going right up to the top of NZ, Cape Reinga and 90 Mile Beach for Easter and Jon had asked me to sort out a route as we will need to book accommodation. It took a long time and at last I decided it was going to be too far to go in just four days and we would be very rushed and not see everything. I have now planned for us to go north of Auckland to the west coast which is called the Kauri Coast (Kauri are huge trees that covered NZ years ago but most were cut down for timber and so not many left). There is a lot to see there and then we will cross to the east coast and stay in Whangarei for two nights and have a look around that area before driving home on the Monday. I don't know how Jon is going to feel and I think going right to the top of NZ might be too tiring for him over so few days. We decided we could fly up there for a weekend at a later date when we can get some cheap flights if there are such a thing in NZ.
So it is all sorted now and Jon has booked the hotels. We will be leaving a year to the day that Jon was diagnosed with cancer, amazing how much happens in a year.
We had a bbq for dinner and sat outside as it was still lovely and warm. The forecast is for settled weather for the rest of the week.
We watched an episode of Silent Witness which we recorded months ago. I hate the way they play loud music in the background of dramatic scenes, we need the TV loud for Jon but it hurts my ears when it is so loud. I think I might have to start using earplugs! And why do they have to show such graphic details in this programme, I had to keep closing my eyes!!
Well bedtime now and I hope the alarm behaves!!

Anotehr late night - tennis!!!
We had a lovely chat with Jane this morning all about her wedding plans which is now not far away and really exciting.
We went out for a coffee and then to buy some things for Jon. He is running out of the wipes he needs to take Bertie off. He has put an order in but was late doing so and with the holiday weekend we are not sure when they will arrive. We managed to find some wipes that we think will be OK.
We got back home and had lunch and then I had to vacuum as the insects all over the floor were driving me mad.
Jon did a bit of work on the deck but it was really too hot for him to be out so I told him to come in and leave it. He then watched a very, very old Dr Who which was loud and went on for a very long time!! I am not a fan especially as he has it on soooooo loud. I think the whole of Hairini could hear it!
I filled my paddling pool and sat in the sun and then the shade and then the sun and so it went on as it was sooooo hot. All this time I was followed around by Totty!!
I made dinner and we sat on the deck to eat as it was so warm still.
I started to watch the tennis and got as far as one set each and then thought I need to go to bed. I would like Murray to win but he is a boring player to watch!!

Very late post!!
One of the very many nice things about this house is that in the mornings it is very cool. In fact, it can be bloody cold even when the sun is out like it was this morning. That said it warms up very quickly and I wouldn't change it for the world.
It is now very late in fact it is tomorrow! This post will be short and to the point.
I told Jon that I had bought bacon and would cook him breakfast this weekend but when I got out of the shower and dressed and got downstairs he was eating his cereal!! Well the bacon will have to wait until tomorrow!! Men, they never listen!!
We went out for coffee to Bethlehem as Jon had a voucher to have his car cleaned at the valet service there. We went for a coffee and shopping while they were doing the car.
There was a little shop that was closing down and I bought some beautiful shoes, casual but so different from the shops. The whole shop was full of lovely things and it is a shame she is closing down.
We then bought some shits for Jon before going across to the pharmacy to spend my vouchers given to me for the talk on Spain I gave some months ago.
I bought a pair of sunglasses for reading and told the lady the grade I needed. They only had one pair and as I was so pleased to be able to replace my broken ones I said I would take them.
We got back home and I made lunch and we watched some TV.
A little late I thought I would go and sit in the sun and read but I found that the reading sunglasses are bifocal and I can't use them as they make me feel so dizzy. I will need to return them and hope they will give me my money back!
I spent the afternoon sitting on the deck and watching tennis.
We had some lovely bbq lamb for dinner siting out on the deck which was still very hot at 7.00.
Jon has had a difficult day with Bertie today. He started his tablets for chemo again this morning and he has had to change Bertie six times so far. This does not bode well for his last treatment which is due to start on the last day of our holiday. Jon will speak to his chemo nurse and ask if he can postpone it for one day as having this problem on a flight would not be good. He has never had such a strong reaction to the tablets and we are not sure why it should be now.
He went to bed early as I was watching the tennis but he had to come down to get changed three times. He has taken two lots of anti diarrhoea tablets and they have finally kicked in as he is now asleep and I hope he won't have to get up through the night as that really makes him cross!!

Sunny and warm 35 degrees in the shade at 4.00 on our deck!

Early post!
I am doing an early post tonight as I want to watch the tennis which starts at 9.30 our time.
It has been another lovely day today but not sure where the readings come from on the TV as it certainly felt more than 26 on our deck!
I went to the Red Cross this morning and it was just Sharon and I again. It was really quiet so we did a lot of 'looking through' the racks. I don't like it when it is so quiet. i expect everyone now has all the summer clothes they need and the shops are already getting in winter stock but we won't have it till end of March so we have a few more weeks to fill in.
I left at 1.00 to go for my hair appointment and to have my eyebrows done. I left the hairdressers at 3.00 and had a coffee sitting in the sun.
I popped into the supermarket on the way home and so by the time I got back I was really hungry and in need of some lunch.
The house was like an oven, poor Totty!
No interesting tennis on so I watched Neighbours after hanging out my washing.
Jon came home and I invited him out for fish and chips down at the Mount. Our local F&C shop is not doing a good job at the moment so we will need to re consider Friday night's dinner.
We went down to a bar on the beach called Tay Street and they do really good fish and chips with a nice salad. It was very windy down near the beach which surprised us as it is very calm here in Hairini.
Dinner was very good and we had passion fruit cheesecake and ice cream with fresh berries and it was very yummy.
Back home now and waiting for the Murray - Federer match to start.
We have a bank holiday on Monday so a long weekend to look forward to, not that it makes much difference to me but it does to Jon.

Shopping
Another lovely day this morning when we woke.
I really should have breakfast before I log on to the computer in the mornings. I think I will quickly answer an email and before I know it an hour has gone by!! So it was a late breakfast again today.
I called my friend Margaret to see how she was and was going to take her out for a coffee but she had to wait in for the repair man to come for the AC unit so we just chatted for a while on the phone. She is OK now, well, as OK as she can be.
The man came to cut the grass this morning and he told me he will now come every week as it is getting long. Not sure how as it is dry and not growing much but that is between him and the agent as I told him - nothing to do with me. He said he would use the mower next time instead of the strimmer but he said it is difficult to get it down the steps. Not much I can do about that either as I didn't design the house. He really rubs me up the wrong way just in case you hadn't noticed!!
I decided to go down to the Mount and have a coffee and then look for a top for a skirt I bought about three months ago and haven't been able to find anything to match. I was determined to get something today and not come home till I did!
After my coffee I went into every shop at the Mount and didn't find anything. I also need a new swimming costume and didn't find that either.
I then went to Nosh food shop and did some shopping before going to Bayfair shopping centre. I found a perfect top but it was just too small and all the other branches of the same shop didn't have a bigger one. I did finally find a cream top that sort of goes and it was half price so I bought that. I then saw another one in the colour I really wanted. It is very modern for me but I think it looks OK so I bought that, too. Mission accomplished I went home.
It was 2.30 when I got in and I was very hungry so made a salad and watched the tennis which was very good.
I then did the rest of my ironing and actually finished it all!! Still lots of tennis on so I had better get some washing done. I wonder why women feel guilty sitting and watching TV during the day! Jon never does. If he wants to watch something he does, it must be in our DNA.
Jon had his blood test today and so is all ready to start on his next chemo as from Saturday.
He came home today with the itinerary for out trip to UK. The travel agent has had to change it a little as the flights don't go on the days we want and it cut our time down to just 13 days in UK. Jon needs to speak to him again tomorrow to sort it. He must get fed up with us chopping and changing but I suppose he is used to it and it is his job.
We had dinner and watched TV and then I spent a while checking out Chain Mai which is where we are going in Thailand. I want to go to one of the elephant sanctuaries so that I can help bath them I am also told it is very beautiful up there, too.
Haircut tomorrow and not before time!!

A lovely summer's day
I slept surprisingly well last night as it was the first night on my own for a while.
I rang my sister and we had a chat and before I knew it was nearly 10.00 and I had had no breakfast!!
I did a few jobs around the house after breakfast and took Totty for a little walk - very little!!
I went out for my Pilate's class at 12.15. We did some work on the big balls today and I have never used them before and it was good fun. I can't make up my mind as to whether I want to stay with this class or not. I never feel like going to the class but once there I enjoy it. I have another two and then we are away so I will decide after that. I do feel better for the class now and I can bend a lot further than I could about six weeks ago.
When I got home Margaret had left a message on the answerphone to say she couldn't go to the cinema as she had just had a call to say her sister in UK had died and she was obviously very upset. I called her back and asked if I could do anything but she said no and that she would not be good company to go to the cinema with. She is really pleased she managed to get home last year and see her sister, it is very sad.
I spent the afternoon sitting on the deck and watching the tennis. I really enjoyed the game that Serena Williams lost - I can't take to that woman and was so glad the young girl won.
Jon came home about 4.00 and all had gone well on the trip and Bertie had behaved himself.
I didn't get to watch Andy Murray as I thought it would be boring and by the look of the results it was - I can't take to him either!!
I cooked lamb stir fry for dinner and by the noises Bertie has been making since dinner I don't think he thought much of it!!
Time for bed now and it's not even 11.00!!

Jon's first business trip.
Jon was busy packing all his things this morning ready to go off on his first business trip since his op. I told him to take double the amount of 'Bertie replacements' that he would normal use and then add a few - just in case!!
He arrived in Northland and rang this evening and left me a message to say he was fine.
I called my friend, Mary, for a quick chat to find out about her new granddaughter but couldn't talk long as I had to leave for my keep fit class.
Once again we worked really hard this morning and I should consider going more often to get rid of my Christmas pounds.
I collected my prescription on the way home and then once home had a shower and did a few jobs around the house before going out to the supermarket to buy some fruit and veg.
I had lunch and watched Neighbours and then it was time to go out for my aqua aerobics class.
The pool was really warm today but we had a good class and after the last few weeks it was much quieter and no so many children.
After the class I walked around the Mount and met my friend and we waited to see the big cruise ship leave. I have never seen one from the Mount before and they do look like they are very close to the beach and they are!!. It is a lovely atmosphere at the Mount and lots of people sit and have picnics and enjoy the evening sun.
I got back and fed Tot and watered the plants. Jon had left a message to say he was OK.
I watched some tennis and had my dinner.
It is very hot tonight and I think I might need the fan on all night!!

Housework Monday - again!
It was another overcast morning and I got on with some housework first thing. I then called my friend in Spain and that put paid to housework for an hour and a half!!! It was lovely talking to her though.
I then rushed around doing my housework and washing, Mondays come around very fast.
I managed to do all my housework and was then able to sit and have lunch and watch Neighbours before spending an hour sitting on the deck and watching the Australian Open. I could only get the sun on my back but it was nice to be out AND watch the tennis.
I then came indoors and started the ironing as it was too hot outside and with all the doors open I managed to get a nice breeze blowing through and so enjoyed the tennis and didn't notice how much ironing I had to do.
Jon came home and sorted his things out for his first trip away for a very long time. He is flying up to Auckland and then on to Whangarei, a town north of Auckland. He will be back on Wednesday. I have told him to pack double the amount of Bertie replacements that he thinks he would use and then a few more just in case.
I cooked dinner, just some fish and vegetables tonight and then we watched Coronation street followed by more tennis.
Tomorrow night will be my first night on my own in this house which will be strange but I am sure I will be fine.

Another lazy day
As forecast this morning was cloudy and dull.
After breakfast we took Totty for a walk and as usual fully expected her to walk as far as next door and then stop. However, we managed to get her all the way down the hill as far as the new build and then back again. coming up the hill was a little slow but she made it!
Of course, I didn't expect her to walk and so we were then very late out for coffee.
We went to a garden centre in Bethlehem and had a nice coffee and then a walk around the garden centre.
We then went across to have a quick look at the 'Sunday Market' and then to the supermarket for a few things.
We got home and I hung out the washing and then made lunch.
It was by now really warm so i filled up my little pool and changed into my togs and sat in the sun with my feet in the pool - bliss. It was really hot though and I could only last one hour.
In the middle of all of this I cooked my piece of pork and then wrapped it up in foil to leave for dinner.
When it got too hot to stay outside I went up to the office and spent a long time finishing my photobook and then pressed 'send' and off it went - fingers crossed it is all OK.
We had dinner which was very nice and then watched the second part of the drama about Fred and Rose West. Horrible to think what they did to so many young women.

A lazy day
We, well I, didn't wake till gone eight today but Jon was up with Bertie at 5.30!!! He did manage to get back to sleep though.
Kirsty called us this morning and fortunately, we had showered and dressed by the time she did as she spoke for two hours!! We had a good catch up and she told me all about her poor rabbit and the problems he is having with his eye. Hopefully, the clever man from Cambridge can sort him out.
We then went into Tauranga and had a coffee before going to the library for more books for Jon.
We then went to the supermarket for a few things and then home for lunch as it was nearly two o'clock!!
We had intended going to the beach today but it was very windy even though the sun was out and I hate the sand blowing at me so we stayed home and just read and relaxed which was nice.
I did a bit more work on the photos for the book and hopefully they are now ready and it is just a matter of uploading them and hopefully not losing them again.
We had a bbq dinner tonight but had to eat indoors as the wind was too strong - bloody wind!!
We watched the Royal Variety Show tonight that we had recorded over Christmas. I enjoyed the Jimmy Tarbuck bit best and the clips of Tommy Cooper and Morecombe and Wise, they never fail to make me laugh - good clean comedy!!
I took a pork rack out of the freezer this afternoon for tomorrow and would you believe they have forecast 28 degrees and I am going to have the oven on!!! Maybe that is the answer I cook a winter meal and we have fine weather????

Sunny but still windy 24 degrees

Friday
Up and ready for work today after what was quite a chilly night - it feels like autumn!!
The Red Cross was very quiet this morning and as we have no new stock to put out it was just a matter of making sure things were tidy. I do get very cross when people come in with their children and allow them to bounce on the beds. I know it is a second hand shop but it is still not on. I asked a man to get his two toddlers off the beds this morning and he was not happy. The trouble is if they fall it is our fault.
One o'clock soon came round and it was time to leave. I went to the post office to post a parcel and then went to meet Bronwyn for lunch at the local garden centre. Unfortunately, they now close the kitchen at 1.30 so I couldn't have anything hot, how silly is that. I ended up with just a cup of tea and we had a chat and then I went home and had my lunch!!
I watched some TV while having lunch and before I knew it Jon was home. I had spent hours last night making a photo book and went on to edit it today and can't find where it is saved so I had to start all over again. This time I am making a folder of the photos rather than choosing them one by one just in case it happens again.
Jon went to get our fish and chips from a new place tonight but it was not very good and we won't go there again. I think we will have to start going out on a Friday for fish and chips.
We watched some TV and then I did a little more on the photo book before trying to call Malcolm again, he has been out every time I have tried this week.
I finally managed to speak to him - he is going away on Sunday to Thailand - weather permitting I hope he manages to get off. He is chatting to Jon at the moment and then I will say a quick by bye and then bed time.

Thursday
Well the weather men got it wrong again it was supposed to be very sunny today!!!
I managed to get Totty out for a little walk this morning. We met a man with a very boisterous poodle and they did not hit it off!!!
I went across to Bayfair and had a look around the shops and found some nice sunglasses as mine are not very good the lady in the shop said 'it looks like they have been left in the sun'. Well excuse me they are 'sunglasses'!!!! My new ones are very nice though.
I bought a present for my friend's baby which I will get into the post tomorrow and I found a nice T shirt in the sales. A coffee and some shopping and that was it.
I got home and had lunch and then decided to have a pedicure as my toenails were very long, they were gel polished before Christmas with a French manicure and they have lasted so well.
Jon came home and I cooked the dinner which was very good, lamb rump with a parsley and mustard crust - I really should start my diet!!
We watched Coronation street, nearly caught up now but still 18 months behind UK.
I had bought a voucher for a photo book and was going to do one of the wedding but as Kirsty and James gave us one for Christmas I decided to do it with photos of our trip home and I have spent ages on it - so fiddly. I will have to work on it tomorrow when I am not so tired.
I noticed on FB that Heather was stuck in traffic on the A14 and googled BBC traffic and saw that it was a very major accident and I think she might be held up for quite a time as there are no junctions off and she said she was not moving at all. I have always hated the A14 even when it was called the A45, so busy and so many lorries. Poor people who are involved in the accident.

Wednesday
It was much cooler last night and we didn't need to have the fan on in the bedroom so I slept better but Jon and Bertie were up at 3.00.
After breakfast I made my second pot of yogurt using skimmed UHT milk instead of the sachets hopefully, it will be OK.
I did the usual household chores of washing and the bit of ironing I had and sent some long overdue emails. I really need to get my inbox sorted and all my emails answered.
Before I knew it the morning had passed and I had to rush to have some lunch and get off to the Red Cross.
I arrived on time and for a Wednesday, just after Christmas it was surprisingly busy so the time went over very fast.
I left work at 5.00 and stopped by the supermarket for bread and then went home. Jon was already in. I thought he had a haircut at 5.30 but it was five so he was well finished.
After a little sit down for a rest, not used to being on my feet for so long, I made dinner - salmon with pasta and cream cheese and it was very good and the only salmon meal I can make without Jon complaining.
We washed up and then watched some TV.
I have just tried the yogurt and although not as sweet as the last lot (I didn't expect it to be anyway) it is very good so I think my 'buying yogurt days' are over for a while as it is cheaper, healthier, you know what is in it and most importantly it tastes so much better and only takes about three minutes to make!!

Another hot day
We had a lot of overnight rain so it was nice and fresh first thing this morning but it didn't last long.
I went to my keep fit class and I think the teacher's intention was for us to lose all the extra pounds, gained over Christmas, in one day!!! She worked us very hard and we were sweating a lot due to the humidity.
I stayed for a quick coffee and then went to my doctors appointment after freshening up in the loos.
The areas he wanted to biopsy have now gone down and are not red or itchy so they decided to leave them. I am to make an appointment if they become itchy and they will do it so I was quite relieved.
I got home and did some housework that I hadn't got finished yesterday and I got really hot. We did have a shower of rain but it didn't help cool things down.
I rang my friend Bronwyn to see how her husband is and she says he is doing OK but very tired and it is taking him a long time to get over the surgery but he is 70 and so I should think that is to be expected.
The weather was clouding over a lot so I decided not to go to my aqua aerobics class and sat and watched TV instead. Jon had recorded a programme on the Walton Sextuplets and I thought I would watch that. Unfortunately, only 15 minutes had recorded so I couldn't watch it :-(
Jon didn't get home from work tonight till nearly 7.00 as he had a late meeting so he didn't get to go for his walk.
I finished Fifty Shades of Grey last night and I really enjoyed it once I had got over the idea of a 'playroom'. Those who have read it will know what I mean!!! I now need to get the next one to see what happens. I can't decide if I want the book or to have it on my eReader. Books are expensive here so I might go for the eReader and then I can read it anywhere without having to cover the cover!!!

Monday
My plan today was to get my ironing done as it has mounted up so much while Heather has been here.
After breakfast I started to iron and did a few jobs in between like hanging more washing out!!
I ironed and watched Mrs Brown's Boys till I went out for my Pilate's class and a quick trip to the supermarket. Pilate's wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I think I will do the next four weeks till we go on holiday and then look for another teacher. This lady is good but she keeps changing the classes to suit her life and I feel if she wants to teach she has to be more organised as I like to know what I am doing every week and not be chopping and changing.
I got back and had lunch and watched Neighbours which is back on after the Christmas break, so exciting!!
I tried the yogurt I mad and it is very good.
I then went back to the ironing and watched the Australian Open which did help a lot. I was still ironing when Jon came in but I have pretty much caught up now. Maybe we have too many clothes!!
Jon went out for a walk down the street and back tonight. He wants to try and build up his strength again so will do it every night when he gets home and hopefully he will soon be jogging up and down the hill.
I took out some of the Christmas turkey and we had a lovely roast dinner tonight. We had yogurt and berries for pudding. I think the next lot I make will have to be with skimmed milk or I think I might get very fat.

After breakfast I started to iron and did a few jobs in between like hanging more washing out!!

Sunday
We had a nice lie in this morning even Totty was in no hurry to get up.
I had a shower and dressed and felt a bit rough as I had one glass too many last night. Not that I had a lot but I just can't take it anymore!
We did think about walking up to the garden centre for coffee but as it was so hot and humid I decided to drive.
I had a lovely iced coffee and it was very nice sitting in the shade and I think everyone was at the beach as it was so quiet there.
We bought some tomato feed and wanted a citronella candle but they didn't have any so we went up to the Warehouse.
We got the candles and I also bought a rigid, daisy shaped paddling pool. the one I bought last week is a bit too big for the deck and this one will be easier to fill and empty. I will have to find a good home for the other one.
When we got back I decided to clean the house as it had so many dead insects around and it was driving me mad so I vacuumed all the downstairs and then washed all the floors. I must be mad, it was 28 degrees in the living room!!! I had to have a cold shower when I had finished.
We had lunch and then I sat and read the Daily Mail that Heather brought over for me, old news but it is more like a magazine anyway.
Jon did a few bit around the house and garage and took all the stuff to the recycling station, we had a lot of bottles from last week.
We had a short and heavy shower of rain and I had to rush and get my washing in. I thought the rain might cool things down but it has made it more humid.
I started playing the Simpson's game that Heather put on my iPad for me. There is only one problem - I have no idea what I am doing!!!
We had another bbq for dinner tonight, venison burgers and lamb chops. I kept off the wine tonight and just had a lemon lime and bitters. In fact, no more wine through the week from now on, my New Years Resolution!!
We watched some TV and then it was bedtime again. Back to normal next week, work, classes etc. My Pilate's teacher phoned to remind me that classes start again tomorrow and I think I am going to find it very hard and painful!
WEATHER
Hot and sticky 26 degrees.

Friday, Saturday
SATURDAY
Although we had air con in the room it was still hot and I woke through the night and I was so thirsty but had no water to drink. The mini bars have all been removed from the rooms due to a fault and they are waiting for replacements so there was nothing I could drink and I don't fancy hotel tap water.
I was more than ready to go for breakfast after a quick shower we went across to the airport and I had a nice orange juice, tea and muesli and rhubarb compote. Jon had the usual bacon and eggs.
We checked on Facebook and could see that Heather had landed at Sydney and taken off again and was on her way to Dubai.
We checked out of the hotel and on our way home we pass the sign for Auckland Botanical Gardens and I have always wanted to stop there and today we had the time so we went in. They are really lovely and free with a lovely cafe.
We walked around the grounds but it was just so hot we could only stand an hour. I felt very sorry for the bride and the bridal party who were getting married at the time we were there. I didn't see the bride but I hope she didn't have a big white dress on it would have been so hot for her.
We went and had an iced coffee and a cool down in the cafe. We left to go home and hopefully we can go in another day and spend more time there as there is so much to see.
We made good time and got back to Tauranga about 2.00. We stopped for lunch at a bar just outside of Tauranga. It is owned by a couple from Yorkshire and they do really good food and have a lovely shaded courtyard to eat in with a little stream flowing though and lunch was very good.
We stopped at the supermarket to get some food for dinner and then got home. I hate walking back into the house when we have been to see someone off and it is so quiet and no dog either. I get a funny ache in my tummy and chest. It will be OK tomorrow but it doesn't get any easier saying good bye to the girls when they go.
We went to get Totty at 4.00 and she was happy to see us and the man said she had been fine so I think we will put her in there when we go away next month.
We got home and didn't do much. I did manage to get some washing on and hung out as it was still so hot it will dry by the morning.
We had a bbq which was very good and we say outside at the side of the house as the back deck was just too hot still at 7.00 pm.
I didn't do my blog as I was tired, emotional and had one glass to many of wine.
Since Jon has had his dose reduced to four tablets at night Bertie seems to have settled down so hopefully that is how he will be now.
WEATHER
Hot and sunny 29 degrees.
FRIDAY
We were all up at a sensible time and after a shower Jon and I took Tot to the kennels after Heather said goodbye to her.
Totty seems to be quite happy to go into this kennels which is nice for me.
We got back and Heather was ready and we all went down to the Mount for breakfast and were able to sit outside. Jon and Heather both had eggs Benedict and I went for the healthier option of muesli and fruit and yogurt.
We got back home and finished Heather's packing which took a long time as we had to unpack and weigh and re pack and weigh again. We left it that if we had to take stuff out we knew exactly what to take out and in which case. It is just as well Emirates are so generous with the weight allowance - 30kgs - as Heather could not manage on the usual 25kgs that most airlines have!!
We finally set off on that long boring drive and stopped for lunch at a nice place we know and we had pies and Heather a sausage roll and a huge piece of chocolate cake - she should be the size of a house!!!
We got to the airport in good time and parked the car and went over to check in. Unfortunately, the check in lady said she was 2kgs over and so we had to take stuff out which we will bring back in May along with all the other things she had had to leave at the house!!
We went to get a drink and sat in the bar waiting. That is the part I hate most the waiting for her to go through. She finally did and it was another tearful goodbye. We are so proud of her the way she copes with the long flight on her own.
We went across to the car and got our bags out and then checked into the hotel. We could have made it back to Tauranga but the drive would have been too much for Jon to do in one day.
We could see the tail of her flight from our hotel window so we knew exactly when she was leaving which was nice to see.
We had a read and then went over to the airport pub for dinner later on. They are not good with puddings though so we went back to the Novotel for pudding and coffee and then to bed.

Wedding Anniversary
It was lovely and cool when we woke this morning but it didn't last long as once the sun came round the house warmed up a lot.
We got some nice anniversary cards and Heather bought us a lovely Kea ornament for the garden and Kirsty bought us a bottle of wine via Heather.
Heather left to pick up Michelle and then they walked up the Mount on the difficult track.
Jon and I left to go for his appointment with the Consultant Oncologist at 9.00. We went in on time and had a chat with her and she has told Jon to reduce his dose to four tablets at night to see if it help keep Bertie under control a little better - fingers crossed.
We then went round to the main hospital to see Mark, the surgeon. We were there early but had to wait half an hour over our time so a good 50 minutes waiting. All is good with him, too and we see him again in three months and he will organise a scan of Jon's liver at the end of the year.
We got home and Heather had only just got back so needed to shower and then we were off out to go to the Amazing Maze over near Whakatane. We stopped at Kiwi 360 on the way for a coffee and a look round the shop.
It took us ages to find the farm as the signs were not that good. By the time we got there it was 1.00 and very hot so walking round a maze was not the ideal thing to do. We managed to get round in about 45 minutes and didn't need to open the sealed map or use the walkie talkie to get us out.
We then drove into Whakatane to have a light lunch as we were going to have fish and chips tonight. Our light tapas was huge and we were all so full. We also stopped at a SA shop on the way home that sells lovely real fruit ice cream which they make while you wait and it is very good. After that we were so full we didn't feel like having fish and chips for dinner which would need to be early as we were booked to go and see Les Miserables at 8.00.
I packed Heather's case for her so that we can fit everything in they just need to be weighed tomorrow and then we might have to start taking things out!!
Well I am sure there is a first for everything and after 33 years married we went to McDonald's for dinner before the cinema. Jon really knows how to treat me well! The reason being we couldn't find anywhere else open that did light meals!!!
The film was really good and I did need a lot of tissues!
We got home and the house was so hot, poor Totty I am not sure how she stands it!!
Hopefully we can sleep tonight but we have got the fan going all night.

So much to do and so little time!
We woke to a lovely sunny day this morning and no wind!!
Heather had a hair appointment at 10.00 so we had to leave at 9.30 to get into town.
I left Heather at the hairdresser and went and had a coffee sitting in the sun. I then took all the coins that Heather had counted from the piggy bank to the bank and got $120!!!
I went to the clock shop and had a new battery fitted in my watch and then back to pick Heather up.
We then went across to the Mount and walked around the base track which took about 35 minutes but it was very hot!!
We then headed back to Tauranga where I had booked high tea for us. It was more like lunch as it was 1.00. The cup of tea was good but the 'high tea' needs refining - too much filling in the sandwiches and no fruit cake and the cakes were not quite right but not a bad effort.
Then we went to give the cheque to the Cancer Society for the event Heather organised and the walk we did here. They were very happy with the donation and I had a long chat to the lady in the office about fund raising. She is Chinese but worked for the Red Cross in the UK and is now over here working for the Cancer Society.
A quick trip to the supermarket and then back home and I was glad to be there!
I did a bit more of the knitting for Heather but it was too hot to sit on the deck so we stayed indoors. It was far more than 24 degrees on our deck!
I had to go next door and borrow a darning needle from Edwina to sew up the hat for Heather.
Jon came home and Heather went across to meet Lisa from the office to walk around the Mount again!! Jon and I had a cup of tea and I cleaned the fridge (bin day tomorrow) and made a chocolate bread pudding for dinner.
Heather came home and brought us a lovely Kea (a NZ parrot type bird) ornament to go with our other things in the garden. It is for our 33 anniversary tomorrow.
We had a lovely bbq on the deck and even at 7.00 it was still very hot.
Heather finished the hat by making two pom poms and it looks very good and I think she has done really well for a first attempt.
I had to wrap the rest of the presents for the girls for Heather to take home and now it is time for bed.
I don't think Christian Grey will be able to keep me awake tonight!!

Crazy Weather
We were supposed to have another sunny day today but after gale force winds through the night it was very overcast and still windy this morning. I can't believe how hot it was yesterday, maybe we shouldn't have bought that paddling pool!!
Heather and I intended to walk around the Mount but it was not a very pleasant day for it so we decided to do the souvenir and clothes shopping instead and spent a very pleasant morning around Tauranga before going over to Bayfair for lunch and more shopping.
We had lunch at Wholly Bagel and while the filling was good I am not a lover of bagels so I won't be going again but Heather enjoyed it.
We got home and had half an hour in the house before going back to the Mount to my aqua aerobics class, I did the class and Heather went into the hot pools. I really know I have not been to a class for a few weeks now as my limbs are sore!!
We came home and Jon was home and we had a cup of tea and I was so tired I had 40 winks.
I felt much better and we all got ready to go out for dinner.
Back to the Mount again to a new Italian place that has recently opened. We hadn't booked and didn't expect it to be busy but it was. They said we could probably have a table in half an hour so we went for a drink before going back and were lucky enough to get a table but it was very busy.
Our starter came pretty fast and was good but we, and a lot of other people, waited a long time for our mains and more than a few free drinks were given out. I think they need to cut down on the number of tables they have as the kitchen obviously cannot cope.
Eventually our meals came out and they were good but I was a bit past it. Heather and Jon had pudding but I just had a coffee.
We got back and Bertie decided to play up 'big time'. Jon seems to have one good day and one bad which is a nuisance. Jon is still downstairs and has taken some tablets so hopefully he will be able to get to bed soon.

A very hot day
I had a lie in this morning, I didn't intend to but I was awake a few time through the night and couldn't get back to sleep and so this morning I was deep asleep and didn't hear Jon get up. the result was Jon came back up for a shower and I had to wait.
I phoned my friend Mary and had a long chat and before I knew it was time we should have left to go to the beach so a quick shower and off we went. I did manage to get two loads of washing done though.
It took a while to find a spot to park and it was a bit further away from the coffee truck than I wanted but never mind it is summer and it is busy down there.
Once settled I headed off to get the coffee and Heather began the task of getting some sun, she hates the sand and it is a real pain for her!!
Just as well I ordered iced coffee as I did spill some on the way back and by the time I reached Heather it was not so iced.
We didn't have long on the beach as we had arranged to meet Jon for lunch. It was sooooo hot on the beach but the water was soooo cold. At one point a huge wave came a long way up the beach which sent people running to gather their belongings but most of them got wet. When you see it like that it makes you realise how devastating a tsunami would be if one wave can make so much mess!!
After a paddle we packed up and left the beach and went to meet Jon who was late!! We had a nice lunch at Burgerfuel and Jon went back to work and Heather and I went to buy a little paddling pool to have on the deck - it has to be better than a washing up bowl!
We got back and had a shower and filled the pool and then while the water warmed up we went up to McLaren Falls to feed the ducks. It was very busy on the falls as not much water and so the people can sit on the falls and play in the pools.
We went into the park and fed the very hungry ducks and had a walk around before going back to the car.
On the way back we stopped off at Bethlehem shops for Heather to buy some presents.
When we got back Jon was home and we sat and had a rest before I got the washing in. It was by now blowing a gale from the west and although still 27 degrees we could not have many doors or windows open as it was blowing right at us.
I had a text from Bronwyn to say her daughter has had the baby, she was having a C section this morning. They had hoped for a boy but have another girl which makes three but they baby and Bella are both well and that is the main thing.
I cooked dinner and after dinner I took the Christmas tree down and put everything away.
It is really hot tonight and I think sleeping will be a problem.
Heather and I are going to walk around the Mount at 8.30 in the morning before it gets too hot so I now need an early night to make sure I don't sleep in again!

A quiet day
It was nice to have a lie in this morning and no rush to do anything so all quiet lazy.
Jon and I went out for a coffee to the local garden centre, Heather had only just got up as we left.
Before we left I tried to take Totty out for a walk but only got as far as our post box and then she wouldn't walk back down the drive, all of five yards, to the front door!
Coffee was nice and it was warm and sunny sitting outside.
We got back and then just did nothing, so nice sitting out on the deck and reading a magazine.
Our plan was to go and see Lisa who has a bach (summer house) on the lake near Rotorua. She invited us to go and 'play' with them on the jet skies and we thought we would go after lunch but Jon was tired after yesterday so we decided not to go and just went to the shops. Just as well as the weather blew up a bit and it was windy over at the lake and we had a few spots of rain for a while.
We got home and I sat with Heather while she did some of her knitting. She has done well to learn as she is left handed and I have taught her right handed and she is doing OK, not sure how she will manage to do any if I am not there but at least we will get the hat finished this week.
I took some ham out of the freezer for dinner and it was very good and a nice normal meal after all the rich stuff of the last few weeks.
We watched Gnomeo and Juliet on TV and just relaxed.
Jon started on his chemo again yesterday and is noticing it already. Still, he is over half way now so not long to go.
I can't believe how fast the time is going over with Heather and this time next week she will just about be back in UK!!!
The forecast is for 31 degrees tomorrow so I think Heather and I will head to the beach and we are meeting Jon for lunch. We have so much to fit in this week!!!

Some cloud with sunny spells 26 degrees

Saturday
I can't believe how fast the day has gone over it doesn't seem like five minutes since I got up!!.
I finally fell asleep about 12.30 and then I heard Heather come in about 1.00 so fell asleep properly.
I woke feeling more awake than I thought I would.
I did a lot of the preparation for the bbq this morning and then Jon and I went out for a coffee and to buy bread rolls and the burgers and ice bags and all done we were back home just after 11.00 and Heather was still in bed!!
I carried on with my preparations, we were expecting 24 adults and four children and one toddler so a lot of food was needed.
I was all ready at 1.00 and Sharon and Des and Margaret were the first to arrive so I won the bet Jon and I had.
The rest of our friends arrived in dribs and drabs and Jon set to and cooked the sausages, burgers and chicken satay skewers. We catered for far too many and had a lot left over but it disappeared over the afternoon. The puddings went down very well and the afternoon went over so fast and I hardly had time to chat to everyone before people were saying it was time to go. Just what happens when you are the hosts.
It was lovely to see Bianca's little one, Simone. She has grown so much, 18 months old now and really sweet and very friendly.
Most people left but Sharon, Des, Margaret, Bianca, Jason and Simone stayed on and we had a lovely time the weather was perfect and all in all it was a lovely afternoon.
Once everyone had left it took us some time to clear up - thank goodness for paper plates etc!!!
I made us some sandwiches and then I fell asleep and woke when Jon and Heather were off to bed!!
I really need my bed now so off I go.

Busy
Up and about early this morning and managed to get the washing done and hung out before I left for the Red Cross.
Heather was waiting for Lisa to come and collect her when I left.
Not very busy at the shop this morning as far as sales are concerned but Sharon and I were kept busy putting out stock and tidying the rails.
I found some lovely polo tops for Jon today at $8 each, they still had the labels on and were originally priced at $70, obviously last year's stock but Jon doesn't mind. I also bought a lovely mirror for out downstairs bathroom and a beautiful china NZ wood pigeon to hang on the wall.
Sharon and I spent ages putting together a set of shelves that a lady brought in, like a puzzle. We cracked it finally and I said to Sharon I think I might buy these as we need more shelves for the garage so I had to take them all apart again to fit them in the car, they are good sturdy shelves though.
I left the shop and went to the supermarket to buy some more things for the bbq tomorrow and got home about 2.00 and had a quick sandwich before starting on my housework. I needed to pick up some long branches that keep falling down from a tree in the front but they are very prickly and really hurt if you are not careful. I got another load of washing done so nice to have the sun back!
I got all Jon's tablets ready for him in his box to start his chemo again tomorrow much to his dismay.
I made a lovely recipe for a pudding tomorrow. It is called cloud cake and you beat egg whites, sugar and strawberries and they go like marshmallow and then put the mix on a base of biscuits and coconut and freeze it overnight. Sprinkle strawberries over the top and cut it with a warm knife, I can't wait to try it.
Jon came home and we put out the cushions on the deck and sorted the bbq and before we knew it was time to go for the fish and chips.
We watched a bit of TV and I brought all the washing in and folded it, I really need to do some ironing.
Heather is still not in and not sure what time she will be in. I can't call her as her phone does not work here. I have got out of the habit of waiting up and worrying as to where they are so it is a little hard. I am sure she will be fine with Lisa who was taking her out for dinner tonight after having a day on the beach along the coast.
Right I am off to bed and sleep - if I can!!!!

Back to some normality
We woke to another wet morning today but it soon cleared but was overcast.
Jon left for work at normal time this morning with packed lunch so back to some normal food!
I did some housework while Heather got ready and then we went into Tauranga to see the hairdresser as Heather wants a cut and to do something about her blonde bits. Dana was busy and so we said we would go back this afternoon.
We got home and then Heather went out to meet Lisa who she used to work with and they went for lunch. I lost my car and my phone!!
Heather said she would be back by 2.30 and so I had a good go at the housework and making a list of what we will need for the bbq on Saturday, so far we have 24 coming.
I spent some time on the computer trying to upload photos from the weekend but FB was being very slow.
Heather didn't get home till gone 3.00 and so it was too late to go and see the hairdresser which is why we have just made the appointment.
I went out to do my shopping and then got back in time to put it all away and have a cup of tea before Jon came home and we all went to see the big cruise ship leave which was pretty impressive as to how a huge ship manages to get out of Tauranga harbour.
We got back and I made dinner and then Heather decided to finally sort out her room and finish unpacking!!!
I spent the evening trying to get the gel polish off my nails and they finally look like mine again.
Just about to have a coffee and then bed.
