A nice day to the Beach Hop

We woke to a bit of cloud this morning but still warm.

After breakfast and taking Tot out we set of to the Beach Hop at Whangamata (Fangamatar). We went through this town last Easter on our way up to the Coromandel with Heather and noticed signs for the Beach Hop but we were a week late so yesterday when Sharon told me about it I thought it would be nice to go and see it.
We stopped at Twikenham House in Katikati on the way and had a coffee and a scone with jam and cream. The road to Whangamata is very bendy and we went through a police check. The seemed to be stopping mainly Maori and Islanders and testing for alcohol and drugs and they had pulled a fair few over but we weren't stopped.

When we arrived at the town it was so busy and we found a spot to park and then went and stood watching the parade. I do not exaggerate when I say there were hundreds of old cars there from the 30s but mainly from 50s. They were well looked after and some in perfect condition.

We walked through the town and all the parking spaces in the main street were taken by old cars. I also think half of NZ was there, too. Once we had had our fill of cars we bought some rolls from the baker and found a spot near the beach to eat them. We didn't stay long as it was very windy and cold down there but very pretty.

We then went to look at all the old caravans so cute and pretty but so small compared to modern vans. Lots of people were dressed up in 50s style and there were lots of stages set up playing all the old songs a really good atmosphere and I am sure the nights must be a lot of fun.

We got back to the car and drove back home and had a cup of tea. The drive seemed to take forever as we were behind a huge petrol tanker which was slow on the bendy roads.

I cooked dinner and Jon enjoyed it but I wasn't keen but I did enjoy the cheese after dinner.

We were able to see the fireworks at Bay Stadium at the end of the stock car races, from our window tonight, very pretty.

We watched some TV - the last of Doc Martin and that was it.

WEATHER
In the Bay warm and sunny 22 - in Whangamata cloudy and cooler

Very tired

I really didn't sleep well last night - one of those nights when you think it would be better to get up and go and watch TV. So I felt very tired today.

I took Tot out and then went to the Red Cross. As they have the new stock in it was very busy again and I managed to sort out all the children's clothes. Les left early as she went up to Auckland to stay with her son for the weekend.

I got back about 1.00 and had a bit of lunch and then watched TV as I felt so tired.

Jon came home early which was nice and we had fish and chips for dinner.

There is a Hip Hop weekend in Whangamata this weekend with lots of vintage cars and retro fashions and things so if the weather is good we will go.

It has just started to rain and I am sure that wasn't forecast.

Sunny day

Such a beautiful day again.

Didn't do much today but enjoy the sun and do some ironing.

Totty seems to be getting better at walking and I have taken her out twice today so that is good.

We had dinner and then watched TV.

WEATHER
Lovely and sunny 22 degrees.

A walk 'around' The Mount

Another beautiful day and I really hope it stays like this for Easter!!

I met Les down at The Mount and we had a brisk walk around and as we still had lots of time before the ladies finished class we then walked along to Leisure Island and out on that. Really lovely weather with clear blue skies and no wind, I love it.

We then went back and met Carol for coffee and a yummy raspberry muffin and a very long chat and catch up. Carol is looking very well and has lost 15 kgs on her diet and would like to shed another five.

I stopped off to buy some fish for dinner and then went home. I took Tot out for a walk and then came back and had a lovely salad for my lunch sitting on the deck. As the sun is much lower at this time of year we now get some lovely sunshine on the upstairs deck and I have to keep the awning down on the kitchen window as the sun shines in on the bench which is stainless steel and it nearly blinds me.

I then sat in the sun reading my book and passes a very pleasant hour. I went down into the garden a little later and swept up some of the leaves from the downstairs deck, they fall from the ferns and make a bit of a mess.

Jon called to say he would come home from work rather than go to the gym as there seemed to be a power out down that way and he had no electricity in the office so nobody could work.

When he got in we took Tot out for a walk and then I cooked some very nice fish for dinner before watching some TV.

Lovely weather

It was a chilly morning again but once the sun got up we had a lovely day. I managed to get Tot out for an early walk and I am trying to get her back into her twice a day habit as she is getting fat!!

I went out to keep fit and we had a good class. I didn't stay for a coffee as I had a hair appointment and needed to shower so went straight home.

I rushed around and got ready and then left for my appointment, just as well I left with plenty of time as they are doing road works at Bayfair and it was busy but there are also some idiot drivers here.

I had my hair done and Dana told me of a new shop she thought might have something nice for the wedding so I went to check it out but I didn't find anything. We might go up to Auckland in July when the summer clothes start coming in and if not I will have to buy something when I get back to the UK.

I stopped at the dressmakers to have some jeans and trousers shortened and then went home.

I had lunch, as I was very hungry, out on the deck in the sun and then did my nails. I sorted out all the jokes I needed for the Tail Twister at Lions tonight, it is the 20 Charter dinner.

I got Jon's dinner ready and left it all for him and went out to my meeting. We had a nice dinner but a very heavy and big pudding but the fruit was good.

I did my Tail Twisting and it went down well and lots of people laughed and enjoyed it so that was good.

I got home and had a coffee and watched some TV.

We have had an email from the travel agent about a hotel in KL for our return trip and it is one of the ones I picked out and is very nice and we might go for a water chalet.

I am off to bed now as I might be climbing the Mount tomorrow!!

I need a wedding outfit!!!!

It was a chilly morning but a very clear blue sky. Heather called and we had a chat, she is so excited as she has bought her new car. I had a few words with Kirsty and James before I had to go.

I went to my aqua aerobics class this morning as I want to go and walk around the Mount on Wednesday. It was not the Brazilian teacher but she was OK apart from her very annoying voice so not sure I will go to her class again. I did manage to do eight lengths after the class, too.

I went home and for a change had a coffee here! I had hung out my washing before my class so I got stuck into my housework and soon had it finished and so I could sit and have lunch on the deck and read my magazine. We get a lot more sun on the top deck at this time of year which is nice.

I did my ironing after taking Tot out for a walk and Jon came straight home as he wanted to watch the F1.

I made a nice spaghetti dish tonight with leeks and bacon, really tasty.

We watched some TV and I logged on to do my blog and found an email from the company I ordered my wedding outfit from. I had sent two asking where it was and they now tell me they don't make it and to choose something else. I am so angry, why couldn't they have said that when I ordered it on 2 February!!!! Now I need to get my money back from them. At least I payed through Paypal so hopefully it will be OK

What a pain, now I have to start all over again!!!!!

A nice Sunday

We had a pretty rough night with lots of rain and it was a horrible morning, grey and wet!

We had a nice phone call from Heather and then we went out to Tauranga for coffee. The decision where to go took a long time. Eventually I decided on Goddards Arcade as Jon had not been there before. We had a really good coffee and a lemon muffin.

The sun finally came out and it was a lovely day. I stopped by the supermarket to get some meat for dinner and the we went home.

Nice relaxing day reading the paper and then we had lunch. After lunch Jon went o0ut to cut the grass and I 'forced' Tot to go for a walk and we did manage to get down to the main road!!!!

I spent the afternoon making a very nice cake and preparing dinner.

Dinner was really good, lamb back strap with egg plant, chickpeas and a very nice yoghurt dressing - yum!

I washed up as the Grand Prix was on and as it is Malaysia, one of the few we can watch 'live' here in the southern hemisphere, and Jon does enjoy it.

A lovely day with some lovely people

We were both up relatively early for a Saturday and it made a big difference as I managed to get two loads of washing hung out, breakfast, dog walked and all by 10.30.

We took Tot out for a walk and saw Mr Bean in the garden looking very pleased with himself. I saw Louisa and she said he turned up about 5.30 last night looking very hot and he was very hungry. She wonders if he had got locked in a house and they had come home from work and let him out - we will probably never know.

Sharon is coming round to look at Louisas' house with a view to renting it.

Jon and I went up to Greerton for coffee and it was very humid and we sat outside. We then went to the supermarket to buy some drinks to take with us to Bianca's for the bbq.

We had lunch and I read my mag, made the pudding to take with us and some chicken kebabs brought the washing in and then we left. We were first to arrive followed by Sharon and Des. Later on some S African friends arrived and we all got on very well and had a good laugh. The bbq was good and we had some S African sausages they buy from a SA butcher, very meaty and tasty. The weather remained dry till we had eaten and then it started to rain so we all went in for pudding. So many puddings, sticky date, two cheesecakes and my chocolate trifle and just 12 adults and two children!!!

We left to come home at 8.30 as Tot would need her dinner but it was a lovely afternoon and we had a good time. A very wet drive home though but it was forecast.

Jon watched the Malaysian Grand Prix qualifying, the last one we can see at a sensible time!!!

Just like summer!

We are having weather now like we should have had in the summer. Really warm today and very hot and sticky this afternoon but i am not complaining!!!

A parcel arrived this morning from Kirsty. It had cost her £22 to post to me for Mother's Day!!! It was really lovely and had bubble bath, hand cream, body lotion and shower gel all very heavy AND a lovely top from M&S and that would have been enough. I am sure she must have nearly fallen oven in the PO when they told her how much. I haven't spoken to her yet to find out her reaction.

I went to Red Cross and apart from a few boxes of bric a brac to put out it was very quiet and so we had a nice morning relaxing and chatting between the three of us. I bought a jig saw for Jon which is the Opera House in 3D and new so he is pleased with that. I also found a lovely champagne flute in pale pink for 25p and some lovely shell shaped clips to put on a tablecloth to stop it lifting up in the wind. They are really pretty and I have never seen anything like them so a nice bargain.

Now that I have to park my car down the road from the shop, one parking ticket is enough, I now go past the 'Sallies' Salvation Army Shop and I just have to go in and have a look. I found a lovely glass fruit bowl today and a lovely pair of black sandals with a cork wedge heal. The label on them said $32.99 and I paid $6 and they are really comfy.

On my way home I stopped at the supermarket to buy the cream and chocolate muffins to make the trifle for the bbq tomorrow, I hope the weather stays kind to us!!!

Once home I had lunch and then took Tot out. I spoke to our neighbour to say that Sharon would like to come and view their house tomorrow which they say is fine. Unfortunately, they told me Mr Bean, their lovely cat is missing. I asked around on my walk but nobody has seen him. Their big worry is that a dog might have had him as he is so friendly towards dogs. The other thing they are worried about is that he may have gone back to where they used to live which was near the SPCA and he used to go in to see the dog there so they are going to keep a look out for him. I hope they find him as he is a lovely cat.

My Dish magazine arrived today and it has a lot of lovely Italian recipes in so I look forward to cooking some of them. I really enjoyed the peaceful afternoon reading it.

Jon had a letter from the Inland Revenue in UK with a very large cheque for a tax rebate from 2008/09. Totally out of the blue but a very nice and welcome surprise.

We had some good fish and chips for dinner and I got bitten very badly as we had all the doors and windows open, not sure why they get me and not Jon!!

A beautiful day

Amazing to wake this morning to such a beautiful day after the storm last night when we had 40mm of rain.

I didn't sleep well as all I could smell was my casserole cooking. I will have to cook them during the day I think. I got up at 4.00 to let Tot out and when I was 'tucking' her up in her bed again. I stood up and really banged my head on the ceiling beam as it slopes down and it part of the gable bit. It hurt really badly and today I have a bump and a sore spot.

I went into Tauranga and met Bronwyn and we had a coffee and a chat. I then went and bought some birthday cards before going to see Sharon at the Red Cross to tell her our neighbours are moving in 42 days as she might be interested in the house.

I got back and had lunch and did some cleaning and a bit of TV.

I went across to have my massage and took the recycling on the way. My massage was bliss as it always is and she gave me an extra ten minutes.

When I got back I made some bran muffins and a bread and butter pudding for after dinner.

The casserole was OK but I think I cooked it for too long - trial and error I think. The bread and butter pudding was delicious.

We watched some TV and there is another day over but we do have more sun to look forward to tomorrow but we need sun for Saturday as we are invited to a bbq!!!

Bright and sunny and no clouds 23 degrees

Another stormy night

Sounds like we are in for another rough night with high winds again which sound like the roof will lift off at any minute.

We had a sunny morning which turned to rain about lunchtime and hasn't stopped yet. I went to my aqua class and really enjoyed it again. I did eight lengths of the pool after the class and then had a shower. I went into Greerton for a coffee before going down to Fraser Cove to get s few things.

I got home and should have taken Tot straight away but they were doing some work on the road outside and I know she wouldn't go pat them. By the time they had finished it had started to rain so no walk.

I caught up with some TV this afternoon as there was no point in going out in this awful weather. Margaret called and we had a chat. She has booked her ticket to the UK for June. She will travel there with her grandson who is going back for a wedding, but she will return on her own. I think she is very brave as she hasn't been back since she lost her husband a few years ago so has not travelled so far on her own and she is 75 so good on her.

Jon didn't go to the gym as he said he would have been soaked to the skin getting to and from the car so he was home early. We had pork chops for dinner and I put a casserole on to cook in my new slow cooker. I told Jon it would be ready for breakfast!!

I still haven't heard anything about my wedding outfit and they haven't replied to my email either!!!

Well I had better go and see if I can get to sleep and hopefully this wind will be gone by tomorrow. I am meeting Bronwyn for coffee in Tauranga.

WEATHER
Dry start with some showers then rain later and very windy 22 degrees

A better day.

After a very windy night I was glad we still had a roof! It was an overcast morning but warm and we had the highest temperature in the country today.

I went out to my keep fit class and we all got very hot. I stayed for a coffee. Viv wasn't there as she was up visiting her daughter in Northland and I presume she stayed an extra day as the weather was so bad.

I went to the supermarket and then home. I got a nice big goodie bag free with my magazine and it has lots of nice things in it.

When I got back I took Tot out and then I hung out my washing. I don't know how, as we had so many showers, but it did dry and I managed to get it all ironed while watching TV.

Jon sent the email to the landlord and we had a reply. He says he will not want to move in till Feb/Mar 2013 and thought that the garage would be an improvement for us but he is happy to wait till we leave. Now I don't know what we should do as it would be nice to stay here and have another summer with this garden and get a bit more use out of the kayak. He said for us to think it over and let him know. I think we would need some definite assurance that we could stay here and he wouldn't just suddenly turn us out as once our contract is up he can then just give us 42 days notice. Finding a house will be easier in March than November that is for sure.

I cooked some nice chicken with lemon garlic and honey and it was very tasty.

We watched Whitechapel which is really good and a programme I haven't seen before though I believe they are on the third series in the UK now.

WEATHER
Strong winds and showers 28 degrees

How much rain is up there!

My post will be short today as I have not been out of the house due to the terrible weather and it is still raining. At least we haven't had the floods like they have up in Northland.

Jon was due to fly up to Whangarei, which is north of Auckland, via Auckland airport. He got as far as Auckland and his flight was cancelled so they hired a car and the people they were going to see drove half way down and they all met up and had the meeting. He then drove back to Auckland and when he checked the departure board nearly all the flights were cancelled but fortunately the Tauranga flight was OK so he got back.

I spent the day doing the usual Monday cleaning and changing the bed. I did a lot of clearing out of my 'inbox' and sorting emails that were long overdue to be answered. I dyed my hair and that is about it apart from letting Tot out to do what she has to I didn't move from the house.

I did finally mange to contact the people who did the promotion deal when I bought our washing machine, dryer and fridge and freezer. I sent off forms and I should have had a Visa gift card but have heard nothing and I have been trying to sort it for more than a week. I finally got someone who knew what they were doing today and she told me the cards had been sent out to number 61 Forrester Drive and not our 81. She said she would send me some new ones, it is $125 so worth having. She then noticed that the cards had been activated so not sure what is going on. She said she would call me back but so far I haven't heard anything, probably be another week!!!

Jon got back about 6.30 and we had a very naughty dinner, wild pork sausages, baked beans AND a fried egg and it was really delicious and I am trying not to think about how much fat!!

Sounds like our roof might blow off tonight as the wind is so bad. The forecast is better for tomorrow.

Rain and strong winds all day and night 19 degrees

A good day for a film!

Mother's Day Oh yes, so far only one daughter has remembered - I live in hope!! Very nice box of goodies from Heather and  a mug - it is a long time since she bought me a mug!! Family joke. I know Kirsty and Jane have a lot on their minds.

We didn't get Tot out this morning as we ran out of time.

We went down to the Mount for coffee and for the first time chose a bad place for coffee. The Chalet Swisse was closed for holiday and so we went next door, big mistake as the coffee was pretty awful and we didn't drink it. We went to another bar and had a really good one. It is unusual not to get a good coffee but we will not go there again.

We bought a Cornish pasty (original recipe and really good) and went to sit in Pilot Bay to eat it. Unfortunately, it started to rain and so we headed back to the car. We decided to go to the cinema to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and from what I remembered from the newspaper I thought it started at 1.00 - wrong!! It started at 2.00 so we had an hour to fill.

We went to Bayfair and took some new trousers  for Jon to have them shortened and after a bit of a slow walk around it was soon time to go back to the cinema.

We bought our ticket and went in and really enjoyed the film, very much an older persons film!!

We got home and I put the belly pork in for our dinner and Jon went and did a bit in the garden.

We are going to send an email to the landlord saying we don't want to have the bother of building work here while we are here. It is a bit harsh but if we are only allowed to stay here for a year why should we have that inconvenience. If he doesn't like it he can release us from the lease and we can find ANOTHER house to live in. I have been looking on the web and there are some nice ones around so not all bad.

Jon enjoyed the first Grand Pris this evening and it brought back lots of happy memories from beeing with Kirsty and James last year.

A very multicultural day

Another lovely day but I was woken by the courier knocking on the door to deliver a parcel and as Jon was in the shower I had to run down to open the door and sign. It was a present from Heather for Mother's Day. I opened the box to find a very pretty box tied with ribbon but I did not open it, I will wait till tomorrow.

We had breakfast and then took Tot out for a walk and as is the norm now I had to keep tapping her on the behind to make her walk. It is really silly as when she does walk she seems to enjoy it!!

We then went into Tauranga and had a coffee sitting in the sun which is so warm today as there is no wind. We then went to buy a slow cooker. They are very popular here and hopefully I will get full use out of it - watch this space!!

WE then drove out tot the airport as Jon had booked his last gliding flight, we have certainly had good value from this birthday present which has taken nine months to complete.

The weather was not the best gliding weather and although the lady pilot tried her best to gain height they were only out for about 25 minutes. Jon had said he wanted to take photos and not do so much of the 'learning' and he did get some good shots and one just about shows where we live.

We then went to the Historic Village where they were holding the annual Multicultural Festival. It was a much better show than last week's food festival with lots of different foods to buy. We chose the S African stall to have lunch and it was very good. We watched some of the dance performances and then headed back into Tauranga to check out the St Patrick day celebrations on The Strand.

We bought an ice cream first of all and enjoyed sitting on the front looking at the harbour and it was really hot. The pub was very full so we decided to give it a miss and went instead to the art gallery. We have never been in before and there really isn't much to see but we did see our neighbour from Te Hono Street who was there to watch her daughter performing in a dance thing which was very sweet.

We popped in to the supermarket on the way home and once home we had a cup of tea before Jon went to cut the grass.

We had some good lamb cooked on the bbq for dinner and then watched some TV. I feel and look a little rosy from all that sun today.

WEATHER
Sunny and very warm 24 degrees but felt hotter

It takes all sorts.

I am really enjoying waking up to sunny days, long may it last.

I managed to get a load of washing done and hung out before I went to work today.

The shop is really quiet at the moment as not a lot of stuff left in the sale and still another week to go!! I did manage to find two pairs of trousers for Jon, still with the new tickets on,  as he had said he needed some new ones. As it is 50% off I got them for all of $9 only thing is it will cost more than that to have them shortened but still a bargain considering Jon bought two pairs at lunch time today and they cost a lot more than the ones I got for him. I also found two nice blouses for my friend.

I came straight home today so was back by 1.30, a rare change for Totty. After lunch and hanging out another load of washing I thought I had better get stuck in and do the ironing. I heard some dogs barking outside and when I looked out a man and woman and their son were walking along the beach with three very lively dogs one of which jumped right up into our garden and started running around. The man called it down and they carried on along. When I looked again the dog was back up in the garden and doing a poo so I knocked on the window and when the man looked up and I raised my arms as though to say 'Come on'. He looked at me and shouted F*** O**. Amazing! I was so mad I wanted to go out and pick it up and throw it on his car which was parked in the park. His dogs then had a big fight with some other dogs on the beachso I am really glad Tot was not in the garden at the time. Some people are unbelievable. I have to say that is the BIG downside to living here, so close to the park, we get some very unsavoury people around and I really won't miss that part of this house!!

I managed to get most of my ironing done by the time Jon came home.

We had some really good fish and chips tonight, hot, crispy and very tasty.

Staff meeting at the Red Cross

I was up and ready early today as Heather said she would call and I also had a meeting to go to at the Red Cross. I didn't 'have' to go but if you don't they are not happy.

After my chat with Heather, who is staying at Jane's for two nights, I rushed off to my meeting and arrived about ten minutes late so not bad.

It was all a little boring and they do go on a lot about things that are not relevant and it is hard to stop them sometimes. I would find it really hard to work over here I think. The meeting was to discuss the change over from summer to winter stock. They want volunteers to go in on the Sat and Sun to do it but there is no way I am going in on the weekend. Last changeover took more than a day and a half but I think it is best to leave them to it. We are invited to a bbq that day anyway so I can't go.

After the meeting Les and I went across the road for a coffee and a chat and then she went back to the shop and I went into Tauranga. I popped into see if my dress had arrived that I ordered last week and it was there so I got that.

I went to the supermarket on the way home and then when I got back had my lunch.

I took Tot out for a walk and also made a cake. Sharon gave me the recipe which has no butter or sugar in. It looks good but we will have to see what it tastes like.

As I had cooked the casserole yesterday I didn't have any dinner to cook so I spent two hours on Google maps walking around the East Cape to see what it looks like as everyone tells me the roads are bad but from what I can see it is really pretty but not much around and I think we will have to make sure we have enough petrol to get us round and I think we will be hard pressed to find a coffee shop!!! Oh dear! What will we do????

I did some ironing and then we had dinner and watched Corrie.

A new aqua aerobics class

We are having a lovely spell of weather at the moment and I really hope it lasts for Easter.

I went to a different pool today for my aqua class and although the pool is not so nice and is indoors, the class was really good and at the end when Carla does the salsa dance bit she had us all singing along and it was really good fun and I was glad I went. It is easier for me to get to this pool but it is a little more expensive. Hopefully, Carla will do the class at the Mount on a Tuesday afternoon as long as the pool is not booked for a school and then I will go to that one.

I went for a coffee after the class unfortunately, on my own, but it was still good and then I went to do my shopping.

I got back and took Tot out and managed to get her round the block again by tapping her on the bottom and she soon gave in and just walked. I might have found the answer!!

I had a quick lunch and then went over to Bethlehem to sort out the leftover books from the book sale. We didn't get much done as nobody seems to know what to do with them and everyone has their own idea, very frustrating and a waste of time as we start doing one thing and then they change their minds. It was far too nice anyway to be inside!

I got back home and made a casserole for tomorrow and I also made some biscuits with Bran Flakes which are high in fibre and not too high in calories.

Jon came home and we had dinner, some very nice snapper.

A lovely sunny day

It was lovely to wake to clear blue skies today again.

I went to my keep fit class and as usual we, our little English group, had a good giggle and make others laugh too.

When I got home I had left the pantry door open and Totty had had a lovely time eating her chew sticks and a box of chocolate buttons. I couldn't find her and she eventually came into the room with her tail and ears down and looking very guilty.

I took her out for a walk and she started her usual trick of sitting down so I just put my hand on her backside and shoved her along and she walked I did it every time she stopped and soon she just carried on walking and we managed to get all the way round the block yea!!

Once back home I decided to give her a bath as she is a bit smelly and now she is lovely and soft again.

I showered and then did d few bit around the house.

I went over to my aqua aerobics class at the Mount only to be told it was not on as they had a school group in for a competition. I was pretty annoyed as I had a Lions meeting later and had got myself all prepared to go straight to that and instead I had to come back home.

The Brazilian teacher is now doing classes at Greerton and as it is as easy for me to get there as the Mount I will go to her class on Wednesday but it is indoors which is a shame but I will have the Tuesday one at The Mount outdoors. The other ladies are sticking to The Mount as it is closer for them but I really can't be bothered with that teacher as she is not good but a lot of the ladies spend the time chatting anyway but if I am going to an exercise class I want to exercise and feel it is worth it.

I went to the Lions meeting but both the ladies that have the key to get into the room we use had forgotten them so we had to go to one of the ladies houses to have our meeting so I was a bit late getting home. I was glad I had driven myself as one of the ladies I used to share with went through a red light again tonight so I think I have made the right choice to drive myself!!

Phone card was a good buy

We had a lot of rain overnight and it was still raining this morning but warm.

After putting my washing on and having  breakfast I put our new phone card to the test and it works really well. I spoke to my friend in Spain for over two hours!!! We did have a couple of breaks as the operator automatically come in on the call after an hour and I had to re dial. But it was really good to be able to chat to my friend as we haven't spoken for such a long time. I will be able to do it more often now.

The result of the phone call meant I did not get much housework done till after 11.00!! I hung out my washing as it had stopped raining only for it to start again so I had to bring it in. I used the dryer and believe it or not it stopped raining after 20 minutes and didn't rain again!

I spent the rest of the day cleaning and doing my ironing.

I did get Tot out to the park in the car and we managed to walk all around the big field - with some encouragement!

I cooked a chicken Byriani for dinner which was tasty.

Rain

We woke to rain and now it is bed time and it is still raining.

It was so misty this morning we could not see across the bay which is very unusual but at least it was warm.

After breakfast we read the papers and then went out to Tauranga for coffee. Due to all the overhanging canopies outside the shops it is easy to get around without getting wet. We went to buy a phone card so that I can phone my friend in Spain which I can't do on my cheap Skype landlines deal. I had no idea there were so many phone cards to choose from. Hopefully, we have bought the right one.

We then went to the library as Jon needed some books before we went to the electrical shop to take back our sat nav. The connection dock has been pushed in somehow and sometimes it works and others it doesn't. They say it will cost $65 to send it away for an assessment and we are not sure it is worth it but we need to ask another assistant tomorrow before making the decision to buy a new one or get this one repaired. Always the same with all this high tech stuff.

We then went to the shopping centre and Jon bought a couple of games for his DS and then to the supermarket for a few bits.

We got back home and that was it for the rest of the day. I made lunch and then Jon watched Top Gear and as I hate it but really hate it!!! I went and read my book in the bedroom and did my nails.

I cooked a lovely dinner with some of the leftover lamb and we had chocolate cherry trifle for pudding.

A bit of TV and upload some photos onto FB and now it is bedtime.

A really warm day

Well the day didn't start sunny but Jon and I are certainly red at the end of it.

We had a little lie in this morning and then we were up and ready for Jane's call. She spoke to me for an hour and then to Jon for half an hour and it was really good to catch up with all her news and Jon knows what he will be wearing for her wedding now and is happy with it, just needs to know what he will be wearing for Kirsty's now.

We then went down for a coffee and then we had to go into the office to print out the tickets for the food festival as I had left ours on the dining room table!!!

The festival was OK but certainly not as much there as I thought there would be. It was mostly wine tasting and all the food was to buy and not to taste!! We did watch a good cheese making demonstration and I now quite fancy having a go at making Mozzarella!!

We had some lunch and our free glass of wine and then left. It was by now really warm and we had got quite red standing in the sun.

We stopped off to buy something for dinner and ended up with a leg of lamb yum!

We got home about four o'clock and after a cup of tea we took Tot out. To begin with she wouldn't walk and so we went in the opposite direction and she came with us and we managed quite a long walk with her - so hit and miss!!

I cooked the lamb and while the vegetables were finishing off Jon made our drinks and we went and sat down by the beach. It was very peaceful and the tide was coming in so also very pretty.

Dinner was good and it was still nice and warm with no wind this evening which makes a change, long may it last but I fear we have rain on the way for tomorrow!!

Sunny and light cloud 25 degrees

Out for fish and chips for a change.

We woke to another lovely day today which always makes me feel better.

I got ready and went out to Red Cross where the morning went over so fast. Bianca came in and Les went across for coffee with her and brought one back for me later. I found some nice things for my friend Janice as she had asked me to look out for a jacket for her which I found and she is pleased with. I bought a lovely M&S white cotton and lace nightdress, really pretty and a black cardigan.

I went in to the bank when I finished work as I needed to put the money in that we got for Heather's car. I stopped for a sandwich and a cup of tea and then popped into one of my usual shops and found a lovely summer jacket which is reversible and a rust coloured long sleeveless jacket with a lace panel in the back. Both items were reduced and even more so at the checkout so real bargains.

On my way home I took the clothes to Janice and then finally got home at 3.30 and Tot was more than ready to go for a wee. I didn't even try to take her for a walk today.

I watched some TV till Jon came home and then we got ready and went down to The Mount and had fish and chips at one of the restaurants on the front. It was a lovely mild evening so we sat outside. The meal was huge and one would have been enough between us!! It was lovely to see one of the cruise ships going out as it was all lit up as it was just getting dark as it left.

We got home and had coffee at home and watched Coronation Street. I am off to bed now as Jane is due to call in the morning.

Lunch at my house

Kirsty said she would call 'early' this morning but it was way past nine when she finally did and then as we had an hour on the phone I was glad that I had done a lot of preparation for my ladies lunch today.

Kirsty and I had a good catch up about wedding things and diets etc. She wants to borrow a pair of my pearl earrings for her wedding day as her 'something borrowed'. I had better not forget to take them home with me!

Lunch was very enjoyable and we all had a good natter. It is funny how recipes you have made often and have always turned out well somehow go wrong when you have guests. Never mind it was all OK in the end.

Totty seemed to want to go out this afternoon so I took her down the drive, I hadn't closed the windows or anything as I didn't expect her to go. I thought she was going to go and was worried about not locking up but she stopped when she saw some boys and came back in. She tried again and we got three houses down the road and that was it she came back. Just as we got to our drive the board advertising avocados for sale next door fell down with a bang and she shot up the drive like a bullet!!

It took me an hour to clean up and tidy the kitchen and then I had a well deserved sit down. There was enough lunch left over for Jon's dinner and a bit for me.

We watched Coronation Street and that was us done for the day.

WEATHER
Overcast with some light showers in the morning 21 degrees.

A Lions meeting at my house

Jon woke early so was up at silly time!!!

I went out to my class and was, along with all the other ladies, VERY disappointed that Linda was back and no Carla!!!! Apparently, Carla has been helping Linda out as she had had things to do and texts Carla at 8.00 in the morning to say if she can or can't do the class which is a shame for Carla as she never knows where she is. I was totally fed up in the class as it was the same old stuff that Linda does and the same music and she got us going round and round the pool sitting on the noodles which is just a waste of time and so boring. Lots of the ladies were having conversations which never happens with Carla as it is always so good. I gave up at 9.30 and just went to swim lengths which was more exercise and then I got out before 10.00 and showered.

I chatted to some of the other ladies in the changing rooms and they all agree but I am not sure they will complain about it but I am going to phone the pool and tell them how good Carla is and if they won't give her the Wednesday morning class I will just go to her Tuesday evening class and then take a walk around the Mount on Wednesday or go to another of my keep fit classes which are also held on Wednesdays. Such a shame to let a really good teacher go just because she is not a Kiwi and they have first pick.

I didn't stay for coffee as I needed to get back and so went to the PO on my way home and picked up a take away coffee.

I took Tot out to the park, in the car, and she got as far as the end of the car park and then she sat down. What a waste so back home we went.

I washed my hair and did a bit of cleaning ready for the Lions ladies meeting at 2.00. I was going to make some scones but one of the ladies told me not to do much and she had done some baking so I just bought some Hot X buns.

We had a good meeting with the Lions ladies and Totty was a very good girl and now has lots of new admirers! It was very funny when the ladies arrived as Totty ran out to the garden to see them as they were getting out of their cars and who should be on the garden fence but Mr Bean. He jumped down and stood by Tot and she just sniffed him and they were fine!!! All my worrying for nothing.

Jon came home and I cooked pork fillet for dinner with 'black rice'!! A new rice on the market, well 'new' for NZ not sure how long it will have been in UK. It was very good, high in fibre but not as tough as brown rice. I made a hot salad with chickpeas and things and it was very nice.

Watched TV and finished my book but I didn't like the ending - I like happy endings!!

So much exercise

I really could have stayed in bed this morning as I felt so cosy, must be something to do with the cooler weather.

I went out to keep fit and it was lovely to see Ros back from the UK and news of her new grandson who looks so cute. The class was full today and a good crowd stayed for coffee.

I went home and took Tot out to the park in the car. When we got there she was happy to walk around on the paths but would not go onto the grass. We took a cut through a passage and ended up going through a housing estate and back onto the main road. Heading back to the park one side of the road is all grass and she would not walk on it so we had to cross over and walk on the pavement. We had a good long walk but what a crazy dog I really don't know what her problem is.

Back home I sorted out the meals for the rest of the week and did my shopping list. Avon Carol came over and we had a chat and then later on I went over to the Mount hot pools for a new aqua aerobic class. There were only a few of us there so I hope more will come in the future or they will stop it. It was a really good class and I feel like I have had more than my share of exercise today.

I went to the supermarket on the way back and then once home I cooked some nice stuffed chicken breast for dinner.

Lovely weather

Clear blue skies again today and warm and sunny.

I tried to get Tot out for a walk before I went to meet Joan but she wouldn't go.

I met Joan near the hot pools at the Mount and we walked around the base. It was a beautiful morning and Joan and I had a good catch up and didn't stop talking all the way around.

We went for a coffee and still we talked till 12.30 when I thought I ought to make a move.

I stopped off to buy some fish for dinner and also to pay my road tax for my car.

When I got back I hung out my second load of washing and brought the first lot in as it was dry. I had some lunch and then took Tot in the car to the park where we went on Saturday. She was quite happy to walk all the way around one field and as we were crossing the car park to go down to the other one she decided she had had enough and headed for the car! At least it was an improvement on the last few months.

I got back and got stuck in to my housework followed by the ironing while I watched TV and got most of it finished.

Jon came home and I cooked dinner.

A lovely morning at the beach

We woke to a lovely clear blue sky this morning.

After breakfast - poached egg on granary bread - we took Tot out and she did actually walk around the block the opposite way to our usual route but that's OK.

Jon and I then went out for coffee at the bar by the beach and then we went onto the beach for a couple of hours and it was really hot. We did have some cloud, which was very welcome, bu mainly it was sunny. I did venture into the water but it was soooooo cold.

we packed up our things and then went to the supermarket before heading home for a late lunch which we had on the deck. As the tide was in it was pretty busy in the park with lots of families there, fishing and kayaking and just generally having fun in the sun!

Jon went to cut the grass and I read my magazine and did my nails all very relaxing.

I tried to take Tot out for an afternoon walk but didn't get much further than the end of the drive.

I cooked dinner and then we watched some TV.

A calmer day than expected!

We had a lot of rain and wind overnight but certainly not as bad as we expected, though some parts of the country were not so lucky.

We were getting ready to go for coffee when Heather called and after a very long and enjoyable chat we went out for coffee which should really have been lunch.

We went to the butcher to get some steak for dinner and a quick trip to the supermarket and then home.

We decided to take Tot out to the park and so we put her into the back of my car and off we went. She seemed really happy and despite the very strong wind enjoyed her walk around the park. This particular park has a group of about ten very old walnut trees. The council have put up a sign saying please help yourself to walnuts and I just so happened to have a bag in the car so I spent some time collecting them.

We got back after stopping for a few 'free' avocados from one of our neighbours down the road. I made lunch and then Googled how to dry fresh walnuts. I think I have to leave them in a dry spot under cover to let them get soft and then hopefully the skins will come off and I can then dry them in the airing cupboard. Watch this space!!

I booked some tickets on line for the Food and Drink show next weekend and we also had a look at flights from Tauranga to Auckland and back for when we go home. The drive back after a long flight is a real killer for Jon so I think we will book them as it is safer. We need to book our hotel for our last night of the Easter break in Gisborne. We have Hick's Bay booked for two nights so just need the last one.

I cooked a very nice but somewhat complicated dinner for tonight but it was well worth it.

Strong winds and a few showers 21 degrees

Bad weather on the way

Jon was up and away very early today as he had to catch the 7.00 flight to Wellington. I got up and had my shower and got ready for work. I was late leaving as Tot would not go and do a wee thankfully she didn't wee on the carpet so held it all day!!

The shop was quiet as we have no new stock to put out and we are not taking much these days. Les left early as she was going up to Auckland. I stayed till 1.00 and then went to buy a frying pan for my new hob. I got a good deal as it was reduced from$139.99 to $39.99 and it is really good. I am thinking of buying a slow cooker, too.

I then went to the post office to post the parcel to my sister and then the supermarket to get a few things.

I finally got home at 2.30 and was very hungry so had a sandwich. I had to use the dryer for the washing as it was raining by the time I got back.

Jon called to say he had landed and was at the fish and chip shop so I got things ready for dinner which was very nice but I didn't eat the batter.

We watched some TV and then bed.

We have a severe weather warning for strong gales and very heavy rain, they are calling it a weather bomb! I am expecting to be woken in the night with the wind but we will see if they have got it right!

WEATHER
Cloudy with rain later in the afternoon 21 degrees

A highwaycode class

We woke to a lot of rain but it cleared quickly and we had a fine day with some cloud.

I picked Viv up at 9.30 to go to the seminar on the new road rules for turning right which come into effect on 25 March. They will be the same now as UK and as we have never really got to grips with this silly rule we will be glad when it changes. However, there were a lot of very old people there today and they asked such silly questions and I don't think they should be on the road!!

We had met Les there, too so we all went for a coffee and a chat before going home.

I had lunch and did some housework and then went across to have a cup of tea with Alison. She looks so well and has lost an amazing 20 kgs but cutting out sugar, junk and carbs three days a week and she looks and feels so much better. She told me her daughter, who lives in UK and is going out with a chap from Newmarket is going to have a baby in August which is lovely.

Bronwyn, who had been to the doctors, came by when she got back and it was good to catch up with them. I then went over to see my old neighbour and the children and had a quick chat which was nice. They haven't managed to sell their house yet and I am not surprised as our old house looks a mess with three cars parked outside, which would put anyone with children off as it is a shared drive, not to mention the string of fairy lights hanging from the deck!! Tasteful!!

I got home and fed Tot and cooked our dinner. Jon came home and we ate and then watched TV.

We now have the hotel booked in KL on our way home but John (travel agent John) is still looking for a hotel for us on the way back.

I had a quick chat (MSN) with Heather who is in London and seems to be enjoying the course. She arrived early so it was a nice bonus to catch up with her.

Bedtime now.

Sunny but very windy 21 degrees
