My alarm was set wrong and so did not wake me!! Fortunately, I woke at 7.40 so was not late. I had to be at the Armitage Hotel for 9.00 to be 'hostess' for the glaucoma meeting which is held every year and Lions help as hostesses.
I was a little sceptical about this meeting but in the end I found it to be very informative. Sue, the other 'Lion', and I had to greet people and show them where the room was and seat them. The hotel had set out 100 chairs and to our amazement they all filled up and we had to ask for more seats. The speaker, a consultant ophthalmologist, was very good, not sure what nationality he was but he spoke very well and I found it very interesting. It also made me realise how bad the health service is here in NZ - they have no funding and no glaucoma programme!!!!
The morning passed much faster than I thought it would and soon it was finished and we were free to go.
I went home and Jon had been busy in the garden and had also had another gliding flight but as the thermals were not good he did not stay up long. I made lunch and then I went over to the book rooms as they had the 'half price' sale to try and get rid of the remainder of the books. They did pretty well but we still have so many left.
After the book rooms I went to the supermarket and got some fruit and veg and some meat for our dinner.
Once home I made a cuppa and Jon and I had a chat before I got on with dinner prep. I had taken some lamb shanks out of the freezer (they did say it would be horrible weather today) so I had to cook them and hopefully it will not be too hot to eat them tomorrow. I also made some very yummy venison burgers.
Jon sorted out the bbq but we had to wait as somebody came to look at Heather's car - fingers crossed!!! We had burgers and a piece of steak and corn on the cob. I could only manage my burger and the half a piece of corn which was all very good - looks like steak sandwich for lunch tomorrow.
We sat looking at the stars from the deck (I did take Tot for a quick walk along the beach but she did not want to go far!!!) and I tried to use my 'app' to see what they were but I can't make head nor tails of it!! Never mind the stars are really beautiful anyway!
WEATHER
