An Eventful Day

It is a long time since I wrote my blog but what a day to decide to start blogging again! I will try and update all the posts since the last one, some I have already typed in my notes but due to no internet whilst on holiday things have slipped!

I woke up feeling very excited and was getting things sorted out for my trip to the O2 with Kirsty to see Kylie Minogue when Edna, my neighbour from down the road came to the door and said she had found Rene on the bathroom floor and she had been there all night. I quickly dressed and went over. She was conscious and not bleeding anywhere so we covered her up as she was cold, just as well her heating was on or she would have frozen.

I rang the ambulance and told them what had happened and they said not to move her and they would send an ambulance but not blue lights as she was conscious. We waited an hour and still no ambulance so I rang 999 again and repeated the story. She told me they were very busy and would get there ASAP. Not sure why a 91 year old lying on the floor for more than 12 hours is not an emergency?

We kept her as warm as she could but she was distressed as she had messed herself and was very worried and confused about everything. All she can remember was putting some clothes into the airing cupboard and then falling to the floor. It must have been early evening as none of the lights were on and no blinds had been drawn and her bed not slept in. Poor old dear.

The ambulance finally arrived after one hour and forty-five minutes! The paramedics were really good and so kind. They soon checked her over and managed to lift her and get her clothes off and we got clean ones for her and they sorted it all out. She had no injuries and she refused to go to hospital.

She had tried to phone Edna at some point to say she didn't feel well but she had dropped the phone and thought it was broken. I had picked it up and put the receiver back and it was working but not sure what time she did that.

Between us we finally managed to convince her that she needs to wear an alarm round her neck and the paramedic said he would contact her GP to get that sorted. If we haven't heard in a week I will get onto them.

Her niece just happened to arrive, purely by chance, so I left and came home. My relaxing time to get ready and decided what to wear and paint my nails was now only about an hour and a half! Never mind.

Kirsty arrived to pick me up and we had to go over to Jane's in Soham to get Kirsty's purse which she had left in Jane's car the day before and then we had to get petrol but finally at 3.45 we were on the road.

The drive to the O2 was clear until we hit traffic going through the Blackwall Tunnel and we arrived at the arena at 5.15.

We went in and went to Zizzi for dinner which was very nice and then we went to the arena. I had my ticket scanned and it came up with a red bar as did Kirsty's!!!! The man took us to one side and said that our tickets had been either reported lost and re issued or whatever!! Kirsty said she had got them from a work colleague whose partner bought them but was unable to use them. He told us we needed to contact him and they would speak to him. That proved to be very difficult as Kirsty only had an email address for her colleague so she sent an email asking her to call. The wonders of technology!!

I rang home to ask Heather to look in the phone book to see if they could find a home number but no luck there. Poor Kirsty was very upset about it all but it wasn't her fault.

We had no joy contacting him and I asked the security man if he knew if there were still tickets for sale. I had come so far and to just go home without seeing her was not an option. He told us to go to the box office. If you know the arena you will know this is a long walk and my shoes were now starting to hurt, I didn't think we would have been walking so far!

At the box office I asked if they still had tickets and he showed me two seats which I said would be OK. I then told him what had happened and showed him the tickets and asked if he could look them up. He checked on the computer and then all became clear. The guy had bought four tickets and returned two to the box office and sold two to Kirsty. But, he had given Kirsty the printouts of the two he had returned!

I asked the man in the box office if there was a phone number for him on the screen and he said he could not give me that information. He said he would hold the tickets for us and we could keep trying to contact him as Kylie didn't come on till 8.30 so we had plenty of time. Kirsty then found him on LinkedIn and Heather checked for a number but no joy. What did we ever do before mobile phones?

The man called us over to the box again and said he had found a number but it was on answerphone. Then he said he had spoken to his supervisor and realised it was a genuine case and GAVE us two tickets! I said really, free, thank you so much. I could not believe how lucky we were and how good the arena were to us. Poor Kirsty was so relieved. And best of all our original tickets were for standing and these were for seats. They were on the top tier but near the front.

Once again we set off on the long walk back to the door of the arena and by now my feet were really killing me and I was so glad we had seats.

We found our seats which were fine but the view was restricted by one of the metal railings. We sat next to three gay guys and a group of six girls in their mid to late twenties were sat in front. There were two free seats in front of the railings two rows down which I kept my eye on and told Kirsty we should move to them if nobody took them.

The show started and the seats remained empty. Kirsty asked the usher if we could move and he said he would ask his supervisor but he didn't come back to us. The girls in front got up to dance and the three gay guys went crazy telling them to sit down as they could not see and they were very aggressive and rude. The girls did sit down but the music was too much so they got up again and they guys kicked off again. The girls asked the usher if they could dance and he said yes but the guys were not happy and a full blown row erupted. I said to Kirsty quick Kirsty get up and lets go to the two empty seats so we did and left them to it and the usher was so busy sorting it out he never noticed. We then had a really good view and enjoyed a fabulous show.

The commotion behind carried on for quite some time and eventually the girls moved further up where there were lots of people dancing. I can see if from both sides as I think I would have been annoyed if my view had been blocked but that is what happens at big concerts. The moral of the story - Don't get into an argument with gay men!

Kylie is so much smaller than I had imagined but she if full of energy and so nice to the audience. You would never believe she is 46 she must have to keep herself very fit. She sang a good cross section of songs with lots of her old ones. The audience asked for the Locomotion and when she agreed to sing it groups of people were doing the locomotion around the floor. Such a good night.

During the concert Kirsty had a few phone calls from her colleague's  partner but obviously couldn't take them so sent a text to say we would call as we were watching the show and told them not to worry. When we got outside Kirsty rang and he was very apologetic when she told him what had happened and said he would transfer the money for the tickets back to her. We didn't say we had got free tickets we thought we deserved them for all the stress!!

The drive home was good and took about an hour and a quarter as no traffic at that time of night.

When I got home at 12.15 I could see a light on in Rene's kitchen and was worried. I didn't know if she had fallen again or maybe not gone to bed yet. I got ready for bed and then sat a while and then her light went out so I was able to go to bed and sleep.

What a busy day.
