Well no rush to strip the beds this morning as I couldn't wash the sheets or anything else!!
I took Totty out for her walk and had a chat in the park with Bud's owner.
When I got back I cleaned the garage in the corner where the washing machine had been - ready for it to come back??????
I cleared up some leaves from the front of the house and then washed Heather's and my car as Pat, our neighbour, had watered her garden with a sprinkler and wet our cars and so they looked a mess.
I then got on with some housework and tidied Heather's bedroom. Maybe she will start to put her things away when she finds her first cockroach in one of her tops!!!
I made bacon rolls for lunch but Heather didn't eat much as she is not feeling well. She is due to have a period and always suffers. She went back to work but didn't look well.
I carried on with my housework and managed to get it all done and even washed the floors.
I then made a moussaka for dinner. Heather came home and went straight to bed for a sleep.
Jon came home from the gym and showered and Heather woke up and we had dinner. We watched TV and Heather went back to bed.
I called Viv to ask her if I can take some washing to her tomorrow. I will drop it off when I pick her up for keep fit and hopefully it will be ready when I take her home. Let's hope there is some news about the machine tomorrow.
Patricia called me about Lions and she wants me to be president. This is the second person to ask me. I really don't want to do it. She asked if I would do secretary but it would mean I would be out three Tuesdays every month and I really don't want to commit to so much.
I answered a phone survey the other day and they asked if I would complete a survey if they sent it to me. I said yes and it arrived today. There are two books one with 38 pages which is a TV, radio and post diary and the other book is 124 pages and full of questions and lots of boxes to tick. Not sure I can be bothered to complete it all it is going to take forever!!

Sunny Sunday
Hard to believe we are in the last few days of summer, it was so hot again today.
I woke early and got up and showered. I seem to wake earlier at the weekends than during the week.
Jon got up and showered and then we took Totty down to Rotary Park, earlier today so she was not so hot.
When we got back I called a nail salon to book Heather in to get her acrylic nails removed. As we were leaving I asked Kim if she would do more washing for me. She kindly said she would.
By the time we got back Kim had done one load and hung it on my line to dry and then she had gone out to the beach with the children. I did some hand washing and all the socks and underwear as I didn't like to put them in with the loads I asked Kim to do!!
We then went to buy some boots for Heather as I had a 20% off voucher. After that we went out for lunch to Pacifica Garden Centre where Jon and I had lunch but Heather did not like anything so we ate ours and then took her to a Subway before continuing on to Kiwi 360 to do the tour as Heather had not done it. As tours go, and I have now done four there, it was not very good.
When we got back to the car Mike had been trying to call Jon and so when he got through to him he invited us over for a beer. He lives in a very nice place right on the beach with a lovely deck.
By the time we got back it was 6.00 and Kim had brought in one load of washing and folded it and hung the next lot out, she is so kind.
We decided on pizza and ordered Domino's which I was not impressed with but never mind.
Seleena had emailed Jon and said she wants to speak to the washing machine repair people to find out how bad it is. I hope she does not take too long in deciding what to do as I hate having to take my washing around to people even though they are good about it. This is the first thing we have asked her to fix in two years so I don't think she has had too hard a time.

Saturday
I woke early and due to the power cut just as I went to bed I did not know the time - it was 7.30 but I was already up!!!
Jane rang at 9.00 and so we all chatted for a long time and so did not get out with
Totty till after 10.00. We went to Rotary Park and it was very quiet down there. I saw Kim, my neighbour, as we got back and she kindly did my washing for me as I don't know when I will get my machine back and the owner has not got back to us yet to say what she is going to do.
When we got back Heather was waiting for Katharine to let her know she was home so she could call her - she never did. Something that Heather is going to have to come to terms with - people forget you and have their lives to live, harsh but true.
Jon and I went out for a coffee and when we got back I took Heather down to the Red Cross shop and we bought six skirts and one pair of cropped trousers all for about £15 so she was very happy.
We bough a pie for Jon and Heather on the way home and then after lunch Heather and I went over to Bayfair to look for a bottle fridge as I am sick of all the space in the fridge being taken over by bottles of beer, wine, juice and jars of things and no room for food. Unfortunately, we couldn't find one.
We did a bit of shopping on the way and got back in time for a cup of tea.
Heather ans I took Totty out and there was a bit of thunder about as we got back.
Jon got the BBQ ready while Heather soaked her nails in nail varnish remover to try and remove the acrylic nails. It didn't work very well and I think we are going to have to go to a salon tomorrow and have them done professionally.
Dinner was good and the thunder didn't amount to much but we did have a short, heavy shower just as we were finishing and had to rush indoors to have pudding.
The TV is still not very good as so much coverage of the quake and whilst I think it is very sad it is so annoying when you are in the middle of a programme and they just stop it for a live coverage of something and then they don't finish the programme so you are left guessing!!!

First 'Round' of golf
Took Totty for her walk but should have left more time as I had to rush her.
Went off to the Red Cross and was so happy we did not have to do the stock rotation as we usually do on Fridays. I was able to sort out the children's wear and get the racks in order which we have not been able to do for weeks now. At the end of the morning the shop looked pretty good. Les and I had a coffee when Anna arrived and I have arranged with the coffee shop to phone the order through as it takes me so long to get across the road and then wait for the coffee before trying to get back again - busy road!
Les was going to Auckland this weekend to stay with her son and daughter in law who is pregnant. She had bought them a travel cot and was taking it up with her so asked me to take her down to the bus station to get the bus as the cot was heavy. She had been a bundle of nerves all morning and hyper active so it was a relief to get her out and down to the bus stop - she was so excited to see her boy!!
I got home for lunch and Heather had not yet arrived, Jon was having lunch at the office. She arrived just before the washing machine repair man who could not fix the machine. The repair man said he would need to take it back to the shop to find out what was wrong but I said I would need to contact the owner and I would get back to him. He came back in a few minutes to say if they had to come and collect it on Monday I would have to pay another call out charge so I told him to take it.
I am now left with a load of wet washing.
Jon came home from work early and we went to play our first round of golf. We decided to go late afternoon and were pleased we did as we had nobody behind us so did not feel any pressure. We really enjoyed it but it took us over two hours to play six holes and it was very, very hot!!
We went to the fish and chip shop and ordered our dinner and went for a lovely cold beer while we waited. Heather was very hungry by the time we got home!!
We had trouble with the neighbours again tonight and I phoned the council. I am not sure if they went round there or not but the noise stopped and I was able to go to sleep.

Thursday
I took Totty out for her walk and got caught in the only shower we have had all day!!!
When I got back I tried calling various washing machine repair people as the spin is not working. A man is coming tomorrow but it is $55 plus GST (VAT) for call out and then $12.50 for every 10 minutes he is working on the machine after that!!!! I think I might have to stand over him to make sure he doesn't stop!!!
Kirsty called and we were talking for nearly two hours about her job and their trip down here which is not long now. They have booked the Neighbours Tour for me and have paid for it for my Mother's Day present which is very kind of them. James is coming on it but Jon isn't.
I then went out to the supermarket and checked the post on the way back but still no letter from the consultant. Jon is getting cross about it but there is not much I can do. The secretary said it is waiting to be typed. I should have suggested I go up to the hospital and type it myself!
After lunch I went to pick Margaret up and we went over to Tay Street Beach and met Carol and we spent the afternoon chatting until the flies got too annoying. Carol is being very brave about her family leaving for Australia, she is going to miss them very much.
Bronwyn came across this evening to pay me for the whiskey and Drambuie we brought back for them and she stayed for a chat.
I cooked prawn and salmon stir fry tonight but Heather didn't like it. I remember these days so well and how I had begun to hate cooking for the family with their likes and dislikes. she made herself some chips and a chicken thing in the end. I bought her some pasta meals today as that is all she seems to want to eat and I can't be bothered trying to change her because Jon and I are not enjoying our meals so I will just keep on buying chicken nuggets and such like for her.
We had a downpour tonight and it is still very hot and humid but I didn't get Totty out for her walk.
The Canterbury earthquake has been on TV pretty much all day till 8.00 tonight and the stories and pictures are heartbreaking. I just don't know how those poor people are coping.

Such terrible devastation
Took Totty out for a quick walk around the block. I did intend to go further but left it a bit late to get to the park and back before my class.
Off to the Mount and we had a really good class followed by a very long coffee and chat with the 'girls'.
On the way home I went to buy some fish for dinner. As I was collecting the post from the mail box at the bottom of the drive Bronwyn called me and came over to chat. She told me she had not been able to speak to her son in Christchurch till 8.00 last night and had been frantic. He was fine but his house has been damaged in this one.
It is so terrible to see the pictures on the TV, those poor people how will they ever get over this.
Heather and Jon came home and we had lunch and then off they went again.
I called Margaret to ask her if she would like to come out for a coffee tomorrow and then I had a long chat to Viv who is going to come to keep fit next week and see if she likes it.
I did some ironing but I was nearly melting. The washing machine is playing up and I think we will have to have a man in to look at it as it is not spinning. I had to hang out my washing dripping wet, just as well it is so warm.
I cooked dinner and when Jon came in from the gym we ate.
Heather had a good afternoon at work as she was busy. She just needs to stick with it and I am sure it will get better.
After dinner I had a little snooze then bed.

Another Earthquake for Christchurch
After walking Tot I went to keep fit and then had a nice chat and a coffee.
Got home and had a shower and washed my hair.
Heather came home for lunch but Jon is in Rotorua today.
I spent the afternoon doing my ironing and watching TV when news flash came on telling of another quake in Christchurch. TV pictures are terrible much worse than the last one.
I made pizza for Jon and Heather as I have Lions tonight.
Janice picked me up for Lions and I was nervous as i had to do the invocation (grace). I had one ready but had to change it to include the people and events of Christchurch. We had a lovely meal at our new place The Chapel and an even better pudding!
I got cakes for Jon and I from Patricia. She is our president and bakes cupcakes for anyone who has a birthday or anniversary but as we were away for the January meeting she brought them tonight for our anniversary.

Housework Monday!
Walked Tot and then got on with the washing.
Kirsty called for a chat and then I carried on with the housework for the rest of the morning.
I spent all afternoon doing the ironing.
Jon took Heather into town to get her IRD (tax) number so that she can be paid without going onto emergency tax code.
I met Heather after work to shop for trousers but we didn't find any but I did find a shoe rack for all Jon's shoes which are now in the spare bedroom as Heather is using the wardrobe in the room where he kept his shoes.
We got back and Heather walked Tot while I did the dinner.

Sunday
After breakfast we went out for a walk with Totty.
We went to Rotorua to the Skyline and up to the top in the gondola where we had coffee before going on the luge which was great fun. We decided to upgrade our tickets to an annual pass and then we can come as often as we want and only pay for luge rides. They have a new simulator there but we decided to wait till Kirsty and James are here before we go on it.
We went down into town for lunch at a place on the lake. Jon and I had a huge roast beef and salad sandwich which was made while we waited and was very good.
After lunch we had a walk around the park which is always very smelly due to the sulphur.
We got home in time for a cuppa and prepare dinner before waking Tot.
We had a shower of rain which was very welcome!
Dinner was another Jamie recipe which was good.
Put more photos on Facebook.

Saturday
We had a really bad night due to the noisy neighbours again.
Took Totty for her walk and then went for our golf lesson which was very good.
We then went for coffee and muffin and a muffin to take home for Heather.
When I got home I went to hang out my washing and saw my neighbour, Pat and we had a long over the fence.
After lunch we all went down to the beach for the afternoon and had an ice cream on the way back.
We had a BBQ for dinner.

Friday
Got Totty out for a walk before I went to work so she will be happy till I get back.
The shop was very busy this morning and an English woman came in and was chatting to me. she has been here for less than a year and was telling me that she really misses home and especially her mother. I told her to come in any time to have a chat so she said she would.
I was late leaving so it was a rush home and then get the lunch ready for Jon and Heather.
Totty still has a sore mouth so I took her to the vet and he gave her an anti inflammatory injection so I hope that sorts it out.
I picked Margaret up on the way back and she came for a cup of tea and a chat. I walked her home with Totty.
On my way back I met Margaret, my neighbour, and she gave me some beans from her garden.

Shopping day
I took Totty out as soon as Jon and Heather left just in case it got too hot. She has been rubbing the side of her face a lot and it is red so I will have to keep an eye on it. She was very hot by the time we got back.
I spent an age editing photos again and put an old one of mum and dad on Facebook and had lots of comments about it.
I made my shopping list but by the time I got out it was too late to go for a coffee so just had to do the shopping.
Got home in time to get the shopping all away and then cooked beans on toast for lunch. Heather went with Jon this morning but will go back in her car as Jon is going to the gym, it saves her some petrol. She seems happier now that she has got used to the girls in the office but still says she is bored.
I made a chocolate coconut fudge tray bake this afternoon so Heather will be pleased with that. I caught up with some Neighbours, not many to go now. I cooked the dinner which was one of the Jamie Oliver recipes that should take 30 minutes to do the whole meal but take more. It was very tasty though.
We watched TV and then it was bedtime.

A great aqua aerobics class
Thankfully I woke up early this morning, I was a bit worried I would sleep in as Jon was away. After my shower and Heather had left I took
Totty out for her walk before rushing off to the pool for my class.
It was Linda taking the class today and she is not as good as Julie but we did have a good time and she worked us hard. Lots more women in the class now and we use most of the pool space. Saw Les for the first time since I got back.
After the class we went for coffee and had a good chat till about 11.45!! I went down to the post office to collect a parcel which was Heather's graduation photos and I think they are lovely but Heather thinks the one I took is better.
I got back and did a bit of tidying and washed up the breakfast dishes and then Jon was home back from Whangarei quickly followed by Heather so we had lunch.
I spent the afternoon on the computer trying to edit a lot of the photos we took and get rid of the red eye and then put them onto Facebook which took ages.
I went across to Alison to get my front door key and show her the photos and also to give her the present I bought her for looking after the plants while we were away, she really liked it.
On my way back across the road I met Linda from down the road as she was walking her dog and we had a little chat and then Heather arrived home.
I cooked a chicken pie for dinner and then when Jon got home we took Totty out for her walk as it was nice and cool.
After dinner we watched TV and that is another day over.

Back to keep fit
I didn't wake till 7.30 so had a bit of a rush to get ready. I keep telling Jon to make more noise in the mornings so that I wake up!
After Jon and Heather left (Jon to go to Whangarei till tomorrow and Heather to work) I took Totty out for a walk and we managed to make it round the park before the bin men came round as she hates the noise.
It was then off to my class and the sun had by now come out so it was getting warmer by the minute. It was good to see all the old faces at the class and although it was hard and sweaty I really enjoyed it. After our usual chat, no coffee today as I was much too hot, I then went to the supermarket for a few things.
Then back home I had a very welcome shower before tackling some jobs around the house.
Heather came home and we had lunch and she is still finding it boring but hopefully it will get better.
After lunch I made the dough for pizza tonight and then went out to look for a present for Alison for opening our post and watering our pots while we were away. I found a nice ornamental frog on a pole which you put in plant pots and is quite pretty.
Heather was very late coming in and I thought she might be lost and was thinking of going out to look for her when she arrived telling me Ross had started to give her things to do again like yesterday when she has not had anything all afternoon. Hopefully it will get sorted in a few days.
We had a lovely pizza for dinner and we both fell asleep in the chair at 9.00. This is a very different life for Heather. I did manage to get Totty out for a walk before that though.
It has cooled down a little now and we have just had a nice shower of rain.

What a busy day.
We woke to a really hot and sunny morning. Heather was up and ready to go to her first day of work with Jon and they left at 7.45 and I had a day to myself to get things sorted in the house and do some housework.
I took Totty out for her walk and Met Bronwyn and her sister in law on their way back, I should have gone earlier as it was so hot. Bronwyn invited me round for a drink this afternoon.
When I got back I got stuck in to housework and when it got too hot I did some typing up of my blog.
The morning went over fast and doing the vacuuming was very hot and hard work.
Jon and Heather were late home for lunch and arrived in Heather's new car which is in pretty good condition and once she puts the new covers on the seats it will be fine.
They weren't home long as they had to go and sort out her tax number on the way back.
I got stuck into the ironing this afternoon with the fan blowing on me and watching Neighbours I managed to get most of it done. I then went and put the clean sheets on the beds before going to meet Heather.
I couldn't go for a drink with Bronwyn as Jon wanted to go to the gym and so I said I would go and lead Heather home as she is not sure of the way yet.
I waited for nearly 20 minutes in a baking car for her to come out! She said she had not done much all afternoon as Ross didn't give her anything to do and she was bored and then at 5.00 he started to read his emails and there were things to do. I phoned Jon and he went to look for her and she came out and we drove home. I think she will be fine it is just getting used to an automatic car as well as the route home.
I made chilli for dinner - a bit silly when it is so hot but never mind it was nice. Heather said she would like just to have some fish. I told her if she wants something different she will have to make it herself as I am only cooking one meal a night. I am not getting into old habits again. She ate the chilli but did pick all the beans out of it. We had to eat outside again as it is just too hot, it was still 30 degrees at 6.00!
We watched some TV and had an early night as it is cooler in the bedrooms.

Sunday
After a few showers overnight it was very humid during the morning and we finally managed to have a lie in.
We took Totty for a walk around the block and then went for coffee to Gate Pa. Kirsty called just as we were about to go out and both her and James were very drunk. After coffee we went and bought a new BBQ cover to cover our new beast of a thing which Jon finished putting together. I also bought a small paella pan.
It felt far too hot to do much so we all just sat around till after lunch and then Heather and I went down to Pilot Bay beach to wait for the cruise ship to sail but it was very late and so we left as she needed to top up her new phone.
When we got home Jon had got the BBQ ready, table set and was just waiting for us.
As BBQs go it was not the best, I didn't like the burgers or the sausages and Heather was a tad tetchy to say the least. She does not realise how lucky she is and I really can't see her sticking it here for the year as she seems to miss her friends too much. However, I am sure she has not thought through what going back entails, she is no longer a student!!!!
Jon and I walked the dog after dinner as it was much cooler.

Bloody neighbours!!!!
Woke too early due to back neighbours who were awake and talking ALL night
After breakfast Jon and I took Totty for a walk to Rotary Park. We were walking along, as usual, and suddenly Tot was not there!!! She had run out onto the sand to bark at two dogs and she would not come back and we had to go and get her. After apologising to the owners we put her on the lead back to the shore, just as well the tide was out.
We then met Peter and his sister who is on holiday here from Scotland and Totty was quite happy to play with Uppy.
Back home we got ready to go for a coffee in the Strand.
We then went looking for a phone and didn't find one so had to take Heather home and then went for out golf lesson which was very enjoyable
After lunch we went to the Mount for the Jandal competition. People bought lilos in the shape of jandals (flip flops) and they had to lie on them and make the shape of a jandal and it was photographed from the air - only in NZ! We then went for an ice cream - very good.
Back to Warehouse and bought a phone, car seat covers and wheel cover. Home for a cuppa.
Dinner very nice. Not sure what Heather is feeling or thinking today but appears much happier.

Back to Red Cross
I was up early and out walking Totty so that I could take my car for a service before Red Cross.
I picked Sharon up at the bus stop and dropped her off at the shop and carried on to the garage. After dropping my car off I had to walk to the shop and although it is only ten minutes it had started to rain and I had no coat and I had not put my umbrella back in the car since taking it out to go to the UK so I got a bit wet.
It was a busy morning at the shop as it was just Sharon and I till a new lady started at 11.00. they are still doing the stock rotation on Fridays so it extra was busy.
I called a taxi to take me to the garage as it was still raining when I finished. It took 20 minutes for it to arrive. Got my car and went home and Heather and I had lunch and then set off to view a car Jon had found for her. It is a Toyota Windy Super, like the one I had when I first came over but much better condition. It is not what she wanted but it is a good buy and they are reliable so we bought it and she gets it on Monday.
We then went to buy some more 'work' clothes for Heather as all her stuff is student stuff. She now has some really nice outfits. We went to the English butcher while we were in Papamoa and also bought a laundry basket for her room. She is feeling better today and had long chats to some of her friends this morning.
By the time we got home it was nearly 6.00 and I was nearly dead on my feet. I am not used to all this rushing around doing things.
We had fish and chips tonight and we are back to golf tomorrow so looking forward to that.

Heather is very homesick
I took Totty out for her walk and got caught in a bit of drizzle.
Spent the morning uploading photos on facebook and doing the ironing.
Jon came home and we had lunch early. Heather is looking very unhappy and looks like she has been crying. She had a call to say she didn't get the job and she is relieved as she didn't really want it as she will only be here for one year and then they would have to interview again and she felt under pressure. They have offered her another job to cover maternity leave. They have a temp at the moment so it could be hers for as long as she is here but she is not sure.
We went to the bank to get her card and although I understand how she feels, having been through it myself, crying and getting down about things will not help. She asked me if she should take the job and I have told her she should give it a try as she needs to get out and meet people.
I went to do the shopping and she stayed in the car so I rushed around and forgot most things. I haven't had to think of other people for the last two years and it is a little difficult.
By the time we got back she was a bit better and I had a chat with her and she told me she misses her friends and the time difference is difficult as she can't speak to them. I told her it would get better and not to rush things. She has decided to take the job and has been offered a very good salary so I think things are looking up. It is a shame she can't see how lucky she is, some of her friends are really having a hard time finding work and she has it handed to her on a plate.
We had dinner and watched TV and she seemed much better by bedtime.
I had a call from one of the Lions ladies today and she told me she wanted to put my name forward for Vice President in two years. I told her there was no way I would even consider it. Being chairman of Ladies Circle many years ago was more than enough for me and I just don't want the aggravation or the pressure of doing something like that again. It was nice to be asked though.
Jon picked up the new BBQ today and it is very heavy and a real struggle to get out of the car, I think we will be able to feed an army from it so I hope Kirsty and James are hungry when they get here.
Jon brought some avocados home tonight. We didn't get many from Mark last year but I am told they only crop every two years so we might be in for lots of them again.

Drizzle but warm, then sun 25 degrees

Heather has an interview
A bit of a rush this morning as I had to take Heather to Jon's office for her interview.
I went to my aqua aerobics class, nice to be back but hard work after four weeks off.
I had no time for coffee as I had to pick Heather up.
We went back home for Heather to change then out to shops and bought five pairs of shoes!!! and some bread home for lunch.
In the afternoon we went to register at the doctors but as her visa is for less than two years she is not allowed and has to be seen as a casual patient and pay $67 a visit. I hope she keeps healthy. How come any Tom, Dick or Harry can be seen in the UK????
We haven't been able to find a phone for her either, they are very expensive here. When I think about the one I bought in the UK for a penny!!!
We bought a few more work tops for Heather.
Got home and enjoyed a sit down with a cuppa before walking Tot.
I prepared dinner and did some uploading of photos, we have a lot.
We had a BBQ which was very nice, outside again as too hot.
WEATHER

Tuesday
We were up early after good sleep and Jon went to work. I put more washing in the machine and got some hung out and then went for an early walk with Tot.
Waiting for Heather to get ready and she did eventually at 1.30!
We went down to The Mount and had a look around and then I went for my haircut.
We then went shopping for interview clothes for Heather for tomorrow.
We also finally managed to find a fan for Heather's room. It is so hot and yesterday we looked for one but they were all sold out due to the very hot weather they have had.
I cooked spag sauce for dinner and then walked Tot.
We had dinner on the deck as it was very hot.

Sat SUN? Mon
Jon and I went down for breakfast this morning, Heather couldn't be bothered and then up to finish packing. We had to check out of the hotel at 12.00 and as we wanted to go to Venice Beach we thought we ought to pack and leave our cases in reception then go out. It needed a little planning as we needed to leave travelling clothes at the top of a case ready to change.
We went to get the Big Blue bus as it is called and go to Venice. The travel leaflet said it was a mile but the bus took ages. We walked around Venice looking for a place to get Heather something to eat as she was now feeling hungry. Of course, we couldn't find any place she liked!!!
She agreed with us that Venice Beach is scruffy and very hippy and she said she had never smelt so much 'pot'. She had to tell me when to sniff as I had no idea what it smelt like but I do now!!! It is a little like Ibiza in so much as it has lots of arty shops and craft stalls and lots of hippy looking people. I wouldn't like to walk around there at night. We had looked for a hotel there but wee so glad we didn't find one.
We walked along the promenade back to Santa Monica which was much further than a mile - maybe American miles are longer??? It took us about 50 minutes and Heather still hadn't eaten anything!!!
Finally got back to SM and went to a place on the pier for lunch and it was pretty grim but at least Heather was now fed - that will teach her not to have breakfast!
We then had a boring wait at the hotel followed by a couple of walks out and about, one to get a cup of tea and a look around the shops but as we had no space we couldn't buy anything so not much fun.
Our hotel is apparently famous in Santa Monica and is used for films the most famous one with Arnold 'I'll be back' Schwarzenegger and Danny De Vito called - The Twins. I didn't see it but Jon knows the one.
We went across to the beach and watched a beautiful sunset and then waited some more until our taxi came to take us to the airport which took about half an hour.
We checked in with no problem and I was glad to see the cases being taken away and only be left with ONE small bag.
As Jon is a member of the Koru Club we went up to the Air New Zealand Lounge but as he is only supposed to take one guest in and they were full due to a flight delay we were told we couldn't go in and to come back in half an hour when the delayed flight was due to be called and they would have more room. so we had to go down and wait in the departure lounge.
When we went back we were allowed in and he didn't take any of Jon's guest tickets which was very kind of him. We got something to eat and a drink and waited for our flight which wasn't too long.
It was one of Air NZ new 777 planes and all shiny and new and after having everything explained to us about the seat and TV screens we settled down with our feet on a comfy beanbag and had a really good flight. We liked the new seats but felt they didn't go back as far as the old premium economy seats but the beanbag idea is good and having your own pod is nice especially if you are travelling alone.
There was an American woman on the plane who was very very drunk and at one point fell over in the galley. she was asking for more wine and was told no and she fell over on the way back to her seat. she also put her pillow on the floor and tried to go to sleep but was told to get back into her seat. She woke us all up when we had managed to get to sleep shouting that she couldn't feel her arm. I am sure she must have had a terrible head when she got to Auckland!!! Silly woman!!!
Sunday didn't happen as we arrived in Auckland and it was Monday!!! I ran out ahead of Heather to take her photo arriving in NZ!!!
We just had to nip around the corner and check our luggage in for our little flight to Tauranga. When they saw we had so much they asked us to choose which bags we really needed as they did not know if they would all fit on the plane as it was only one of the little ones. Just as well I was organised and knew which ones had the dirty washing in!!
We then walked across to the domestic departures and into the lounge to wait for the next plane. We had some very nice scrambled eggs and toast with a nice cup of Kiwi coffee. I just really want to be back in Tauranga now, I have had enough!!!
A nice little flight which wasn't full so we could spread out with our bags and duty free and coats etc. I don't know how we managed to accumulate so much stuff on our way. No bumps and a smooth landing in Tauranga which was very humid.
Mike picked us up in a Ute as he knew we had a lot of luggage and even then we only just managed!
Lovely to be back and got stuck into unpacking and sorting out dirty washing. I like to get it done as soon as we get back from any trip but Heather is not quite so keen.
We then went to the supermarket to do some shopping and then onto the kennels to pick up Totty. They told us she had been fine, she looked a little thinner and was very happy to see us. She had been asserting her authority over the other dogs the last week and when they went to sit in her spot she went and sorted them out so the owner told me.
We had dinner but it is such a long time ago now I can't remember what I cooked.
We watched American Idol and it was very hard to stay awake and so I had a little sleep and then we all went to bed.

Universal Studios
We woke up at 6.30 after a good night.
We ordered breakfast in the room which was quicker than going down for it.
The bus picked us up on time and we went around picking people up. The trip was a bit of a nightmare as the diver and a passenger talked non stop about basket ball for over an hour. All the other passengers and us were all fit to kill them both when we got off. I thought football was boring but these tow took the biscuit. We stopped in Hollywood, Walk of Fame to get our tickets for Universal which was very disorganised and chaotic.
Fortunately, we had a different driver and it was only 20 min to Universal. We went straight in and were there for the opening which they make like the start of shooting a movie scene.
We did the Shrek ride first which was really good and then we went for a coffee and planned our route.
We stopped to help with a survey about where we had come from etc and were given front of queue passes for the studio tour so went straight off to do that. It was really good and the King Kong studio ride was amazing in 4D.
I loved the Simpsons ride even though the man behind me freaked out when the car closed and the lights went out. He was huge and I thought he was going to fall on top of me as he was trying to climb out. Fortunately, they stopped the ride and let him out. By far the best ride for me.
We were able to take lots of photos and as it was not really busy you could get by all the characters and they even have staff on hand to take the photos for you of your group.
Lunch was not so good, chicken burger and not my idea of food but it filled a gap.
We went in to see the Terminator show but I didn't like it and had to have my eyes closed as it was making me feel ill. When I opened them at the end I nearly had a fit as the room was full of smoke and I couldn't see!
The Animal show was really good and showed how they train animals for films.
We saw the Blues Brothers and how they do Stage Effects. The whole place was full of characters and you were allowed to get close to them unlike Dysney in Paris where there are so many people and the characters have to have minders.
We managed to get in to see the last Waterworld show which was spectacular.
I would have liked to go on the Simpson's ride again but we didn't have time as we wanted to see the shops in Universal Village.
Our bus arrived and although the driver was much better than yesterday he once again went through all the sights of Hollywood and it took ages to get back. I think I could now find my way around LA quite well. We got back at 7.00 - a long day.
We went out for dinner and wanted to find a place to have a steak and a burger - trying to please three people is very difficult and we walked all around S Monica. We were walking past our hotel and I suggested we look at the menu and low and behold they had both steak and burgers on the menu. We had a lovely steak and Heather enjoyed her burger. If only we had checked it could have saved our feet a lot of pain.
And now to bed sooooo tired.
Hopefully I will be this tired tomorrow and sleep on the plane

LA sightseeing
After a reasonable night's sleep we went for breakfast. It was a lovely breakfast out on the veranda of the hotel. I had fruit, granola and yogurt but Heather couldn't eat her stack of pancakes! Jon had a huge bacon, egg, sausage meal, far too much.
We went for a walk on Santa Monica pier which was lovely. On the way back we went to the tour office and booked tour of the city on the hop on hop off British double decker bus. We also booked a trip to Universal for tomorrow.
We sat on the open top upstairs of the bus and had a good tour and listened to the commentary.
Our first stop was Rodeo Drive and we wandered around all the beautiful shops and looked at what we could not afford. It is really nice on the drive, so clean and modern.
Back on the bus and we went to the Farmers market. We could not hear the commentary as the lady bus driver had her radio on and it was coming over the speakers and we had some foreign noisy people who we had to ask to be quiet sitting near us. the way the bus was designed we could not get down to the driver and ask for her to turn the radio off so we sat and listened to rap for over half an hour!! It was a bit of a joke really as she kept turning it up and in the end the noisy people kept stamping their feet on the floor. When it finally stopped at the market she came round to ask what the noise was?? So we told her and she said all the drivers have their radios on and she didn't know it was coming over the speaker but no sorry!!!
We got some lunch in the market and then had a walk around the shops before getting back on the bus to Hollywood Walk of Fame. We walked the Walk of Fame and went to the viewing point to see the Hollywood sign for a photo and then to the Kodak Theatre where they hold the Oscars. We went for a drink to the Disney shop which is a typical American style bar.
We then got the bus back to Rodeo Drive where we had to change to get back to Santa Monica. The bus driver on the second bus was mad and drove so fast and it was really scary but we got back to Santa Monica safe and sound but very tired.
One thing I don't like about America is being told by the bus drivers that they expect tips AND how much we should be paying. We were on and off buses all day and it would have cost more than the ticket had we tipped the way they suggested!!!
We had a quick shower and change and went out for dinner but it felt very cold and chilly.
We went for dinner to and Italian and once again it was a big meal and half my pizza came home with us in a box and they also asked if we wanted Heather's past meal boxed!!
We thought it best to book a call for the morning in case we didn't wake as our pick up was 7.45.

LA here we come
Up and getting ready to leave. Packing nightmare as Heather wants to take far too many sweets. We managed to fit everything in and pushed sweets into any corner and pocket we could.
Heather texed Jane to bring us sausage baguettes for breakfast and we were getting in a panic as it was nearly time for the taxi and we were still waiting for Jane. She finally arrived and we had our breakfast and then it was waiting for the taxi.
I hate goodbyes and it was sad as we are not sure when we will next see Jane and Jason.
We had a really good journey to the airport and I was very pleased that Janet had put me in touch with this taxi man. He was very pleasant and when we were on the A1 he saw a queue ahead he managed to get us into the outside lane pretty quickly and off at the junction and he found his way to the airport on roads that we didn't know existed. I know it is his job but it was very well done and I would have no hesitation using him again. He was amazed at the amount of luggage we had though!
We got to check in and it was all pretty easy as we were flying premium economy and so there was no waiting.
We went to find some lunch and Jon and Heather shared a pizza and I had some very nice fruit and yogurt.
We had booked some really good seats on the flight and were upstairs on the jumbo and the front row just before you go into business class so we had lots of leg room.
The flight attendants seats for take off and landing were in front of us and I was pleased to see Matt again. We had met him on our flight from LA to Heathrow and he was really friendly and very helpful and we got the same service they had in BC.
Unfortunately, we had three women behind us who had never met before and they talked for the whole nine and a half hours. It was terrible and so loud. When the whole cabin was asleep they were still at it and told each other about their pensions, sex life, how many time they made love with their partners, mortgages and so it went on and on and on. I could stand it no longer and turned round and asked them to keep their voices down and they looked at me in horror! They were a little better but not much. Matt said I should have told him and he would have sorted them!! They were continuing to Auckland and I just hope they had a bumpy flight and were not able to sleep for the rest of the trip and arrived feeling shattered!!!
Apart from the above the flight was really good, smooth and very good food. Matt chatted to me when we were preparing to land and told me lots of places he had been to in LA and where we should go and then I realised we had landed and it was so smooth I hadn't even noticed.
We were very tired but cleared immigration and customs with no problem and then got a taxi to our hotel which was very nice, with two rooms and overlooking the beach.
After a quick change we went out to find something to eat and ended up on the third floor of a shopping mall. We really didn't feel like much but thought it was a long time till breakfast so ought to have something. Heather had a past meal which was really too big and so she couldn't finish it and Jon and I had a salad which came with a flat bread. We thought the flat bread would be like garlic bread but it was a flat bread each witha huge salad on top!!! Far too much and we couldn't finish it either.
We then went back to the hotel and into bed/

Tuesday
Jon and I went out to Tesco early to get what we needed for roast lamb dinner tonight. Jon then had to take the car back and Jane brought him home.
I went over to say goodbye to Rene who was upset all over again, she looks so frail.
Roger and Mary called round to say goodbye and for Roger to have a look around the house so that he will know what needs to be done if all the girls move out and we want to let it.
Heather took me into Newmarket and I did a bit more last minute shopping, I hope I am going to fit all this in the case. I have so missed M&S. I met Christine Littlewood in M&S which was lovely as I hadn't had time to go and see her.
I popped in to say goodbye to Sonia and Val, the nurse kindly said she would fit Heather in then for a pill check which saved us going back in the afternoon.
We went and bought some sandwiches for lunch and I took a birthday card up to Rob on the way home.
Lots more cleaning and packing through the afternoon but we are nearly there!!
I cooked the roast dinner and we had a lovely meal with the girls and Jason but it was a late night!
I will be glad when we are in the taxi tomorrow and I can't do anymore.
